Speeding Up The Computer: Updated Drivers / System Wont Boot?
Jan 24, 2008Computer is getting on a bit, athlon 3500+ (about to put an opty 180 in to speed things up) So, i run device detective, that shows a whole stack of old drivers So, then i buy it, and update the drivers. Then, windows wont boot, so i have to go back to a previous one that did boot. Problem is, my boys favourite game, "Star wars knights of the old republic" wont boot. Well, it starts, but then says it has to close. I didnt do a system restore point, and dont know how to roll back the driver to its previous one. Even if i knew how, i did about a dozen drivers at once.

Jan 14, 2009I am running Windows XP Homedition. I have two drives inside, the regular C: drive and I have a Slave drive F: with all my photos and music and documents. The problem I'm having is that everytime I restart or reboot my system it say it needs to check F: drive for consistency. It haven't been doing that until now. Then once it goes through that the system comes up. I try to click on an icon like my internet or registry program, nothing comes up, its like a read only file or something. Its not executing the program. THEN all of a sudden I get a blue screen. It says this::"Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacture for driver updates. try changing video adapters. "Check with your hardware vendor for aany BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use SAFE mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advance SStartup options, and then select Safe Mode."

2000 Check Disk Doesn't Work / The Disk Check Could Not Be Performed
Feb 5, 2003when i run chdisk for errors in win 2000 by right clicking the hard drive icon and then clicking properties of c: harddrive, then tools tab, then click the check now button, and in the check disk options ticking "automatically fix file system errors" and clicking ok I get this message "The disk check could not be performed because exclusive access to the drive could not be obtained. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer."If i chose yes to that above it performs the diskcheck at reboot and when windows loads i go back to the checkdisk and i get the same problem again.

I'm using Media Player and iTunes I tried other speakers and there is still no sound Also, forgot to mention that my speaker makes a static/fuzzy noise when i turn up.

Feb 28, 2008WinExplorer -> right click C: -> go to properties -> go to tools click error check. Will get message that error check will start at the next start up. Problem. Error check runs fine, and makes 5 checks. At the 5th check at about 98% you better be there and when it hits 100% be a quick reader so you can see if there are any bad clusters. The screen stays there about 3 seconds and then disappears. If you have bad clusters the HD might be going bad. Question. How can I make the Error Check summary screen stay put while I read it or how can I make it "log" someplace where I can go and read it at my leisure?

No sound is obvious but video controller is not. Video seems okay. Where do I find drivers for this machine. XP Pro, Home and MCE are different OS's ... as far as my experience. Jan 1, 2006Whenever i install drivers on my pc, (i've tried graphics card drivers and wireless network card drivers) my pc stops working. When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. My entire system is as follows (incase it can help someone help me) P4 3.0ghz HT CPU, Microstar P4 motherboard, 128mb Nvidia Geforce mx4000 AGP x8 graphics card, 256MB ddr ram (recently brought new 1GB ddr ram off ebay just for rezidue! should be here soon!) I get the message "The device driver for the 'PCI Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP' device is preventing the machine from entering hibernation. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver". I updated the driver. Still can't hibernate.

Jul 10, 2005After I updated to sp2 and other updates via auto update and went to WMP 10, I noticed that the new DVD+RW's I bought the other day are not excepting a format or allowing me to erase them. Out of the box they are initially recognized by XP Pro, then when formating with nero they lock up during finalizing and I have to reboot. At this point the disk, after reboot is not recognized and seems to be in an endless loop or check mode state. I have, I think , 6 damaged so far. I am afraid to experiment and thought RW disks could be at least erased and reused but XP can't see the RW media and this does not let me use any other app to erase or reformat. Any ideas or registry fixes out there?

It is staying on top of all open files and is waiting for me to approve the update.It reads this way: (Blue column to the left with an eye-shaped logo and the word Viewpoint. The white section to the right says: You have been Updated. Your Viewpoint Media Player was recently updated with the latest components to enhance your web viewing. A new browser update is recommended, including advanced pop-up blocking and graphically enhanced search. Then there is a clickable button saying "Update" Below that there is a note that says: Note: There is NO Restart required. It gives another clickable button that says More Info and a line that says Who is Viewpoint? This takes you to a description which includes the "fact" that they are a NASDAQ company that provides internet graphics and delivery technology to Fortune 500 companies including AOL, GE, GM, etc. This did not make me feel better.
