I have Win XP, and I am trying to get my parents switched over from Internet Explorer 7 to Opera or Firefox, but they insist on keeping Internet Explorer 7. Recently, their homepage changed from www.mchsi.com to an MSN page. it will NOT let me change it back whatever i do .As soon as i exit the Internet options, it changes it back.
View 9 RepliesA friend of mine installed the Mozilla browser and I didnt like it so I uninstalled it. Anyways to make a long story short..Since then,In the address bar (ie icon), and all my internet links (internet shortcuts) show as an unassigned file type now. So for instance if I drag an http link from my browser to my desktop...it does not show as an ie link anymore (just a random file type). So when I right click my internet links and say "open with" internet explorer it works. However...when I select the check box "always open with this program" it will not change all of my internet shortcuts appear with the "IE" icon like it should

Now whenever I try to start Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer the windows installer starts and the windows will not open until I have cancelled the installer several times. I scanned the registry with Registry Fix and fixed all problems. It still starts every time. Netscape has no like problem starting.

Both generate the same error: "Internet (or Windows) Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The details show that ole32.dll is the guilty module. Obviously, I don't want this. Normally, I should be able to hit ENTER, double-click, or right-click and select the first option, which should be open the folder or file in Explorer.
