Logon Screen Displays Unread Email Messages...why?

Aug 16, 2005

ATI required installation of MS .Net 1.1 for its display driver. After installation, Windows now displays the number of unread emails in Outlook Express for my username logon. Login Screen Email Account Settings - Change Or Remove

Nov 26, 2006

On the windows login screen, right below my login name, there is a little note that says how many new mail messages I have- This however was set up by my ex-boyfriend under his hotmail account. I'd like to change it to one of my accounts if possible, (I primarily use a university based webmail account), and if I can't change it to anything but hotmail or msn then I would like to remove it.

I haven't been able to figure out where to find this setting.

Infinite Logon Loop / Immediatley Logs Off To The Logon Screen

Sep 22, 2004

My computer starts up normally. It always just autologs on since I'm the only one using my windows xp computer. However, before anything can be displayed it immediatley logs off to the logon screen. I click my username and start the login process (i have no password and before even switching to my wallpaper or anything it says stuff like logging out and saving your settings.

I tried booting in safe mode too and the same infinite logon loop occured to, even with the default administrator account. The last thing I remember doing before this happened is I was playing City of Heroes when it crashed forcing me to restart my computer. This happens occasionally in certain programs but I've never had anything like this happen before. I tried unplugging my keyboard, mouse, usb devices, ethernet cable, no luck. Intel Pentium 4 1.7 ghz Geforce 5600 FX 256 mb windows xp home service pack 1, in case any of that matters

Change Documents & Settings User Name To Match Changed Logon Name

Nov 28, 2006

two new computers a router and networked the home. I have the host computer and my children are each on wireless as clients. Both children can access internet, but only 1 can access printer. I actually figured out the problem that's huge as I'm a network idiot. My son's computer (can't use printer) is using my old computer with MY name on it. I am on the new computer with MY name on it. So when he tries to access the printer it doesn't know where to go. I have windows xp HOME and from what I see I can't change the name on his computer the folder immediately under documents & settings). I followed instructions to copy from one folder to another (ie, Mine to his) using a 3rd administrator account. I could copy any account but mine.

Administrator
Administrator.computer description name
Administrator.computer description name.000

Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!

Blue Screen Of Death Before Logon Screen

Aug 9, 2005

This moring when I turned on my laptop a '0x00000051 (0x00000001, 0xL1, 0L008, 0x00716000, 0x000001D6)' Registy Error appeared on a blue screen. It then continuously restarts, never making it to the logon screen.

I have tried to reboot in Safe Mode and 'Last Known Working' mode but the same blue screen appears. As I dont have a XP Home install disk (only boot disk supplied with laptop), I could not repair my registry so I have installed a parallel version of Windows XP Pro that came with another PC. I can access the hard disc so I will be able to back up most of my files BUT I cannot access the Documents and Settings of my user from the original OS because I selected 'Make this Folder Private' when I made the account. Does anyone know of a way to disable the 'Make This Folder Private' option on an account that is on a parallel version of XP?

Hangs After Logon Screen

Aug 5, 2007

I am having this really anoying problem with both of my computers they are:
1. Custom built ecs board p4 xp home system
2. Dell latitude c600 xp pro sp2
For some weird reason both of my computers hang right after the logon screen. Its weird because all I have to do is give it the three finger salute and go under shut down and then log off then I'll get the explorer.exe is not responding message I hit cancel or stop terminate whatever it is and it goes back to the logon screen I then logon and it boots into the desktop like it should normally. This is really weird because it happens to both my xp home desktop computer and my xp pro notebook computer. This is really anoying and I can't figure it out. Ive tried runing anti spyware progs like Ad aware and spybot but nothing really comes up.Please help This is getting especially troublesome when my kid is hounding me to put on his spongebob dvd on my notebook and I have to deal with this while booting up. What I have noticed is that (on both computers) the taskbar does not come up all I get is my background picture.

Delay Before Logon Screen

Apr 2, 2008

Having looked at a few previous threads on your forums, you seem to be pretty intelligent so I guess this is the best place to post my problem, Recently I purchased one of those quadcore machines (Q6600) with a blank HD, so installed XP Pro + SP2. There was errors when installing SP2 (and SP1, when I tried that), where by it gets so far, then just freezes. Having left it for hours to try and resume, it didn't, and I was forced to end the task. When I rebooted the machine I was prompted to uninstall SP2 as it wasn't installed correctly? This wasn't an option for me, as I NEEDED to install msn IM lol anyhow. When I boot my machine up, just before the logon screen loads where it says something along the lines of "Windows is starting up...", it just stays on that for ages (several minutes!) before continuing to load the logon screen. Once the logon screen appears, everything else is fine.

Windows Xp Welcome Screen / User Logon

Jul 26, 2007

I recently upgraded to windows xp professional from windows me. I was not having any problems when I started the pc until after I installed the .net framework updates from the windows update site. Now when I start or restart my pc it starts with the administrator setup instead of the way it had been. I need to go to start/log off and select switch user in order for it to switch to the way that it had been prior to the .net framework updates.I tried going to the control panel and selecting the user account and selecting to change the way users log on or off and both the "use welcome screen and use fast user switching" are checked off. I am listed as a computer administrator but there is also a user account titled administrator which is also listed as a computer administrator. The administrator account is the one that is automatically opening now when I start the pc but I want it to open to the user which is me (and that is how it was opening prior to the install of .net framework).

I also tried going to start / run / control user passwords2 on the user accounts I removed the check mark from the box for "users must enter a password to use this computer". I then selected okay to the automatically logon box that popped up with my user name. I did not enter a password since I never entered or had one to begin with. I then clicked on okay..I then tried going to control panel / user accounts and then to change the way users log on and off and unchecked the box for both "use the welcome screen" and "use fast user switching". However when I clicked on okay I get a screen that states that "fast users switching cannot be turned off while multiple users are logged on. Make sure all other users are logged off, then try again." Does anyone know how I can get Windows XP to open/start that way again without having to always go to start /log off and selecting to switch users all the time?

Clicking On Logon Screen And Get Restart

Oct 5, 2006

I have Windows XP Pro. When turn my computer on, it goes to the "Welcome Screen" that has a picture icon with my name next to it. I click on my name, and the computer starts. I want to bypass this. I just want to turn the computer on and have it go right to the desktop and be ready to use without the Welcome screen. I am the only user of this computer, so the logon or Welcome screen is not necessary.

I did locate a web site that supposedly told how to do this, but when I followed the advice, the computer booted to a generic desktop with all of my icons and shortcuts gone, and it asked me if I wanted to take a tour of Windows as if I never used it before. I am the only user, I am the administrator, I want to start my system with no Welcome screen or password prompt, just right to my desktop.

Cannot Boot Up And Bypass The Logon Screen

I cannot boot up and bypass the logon screen. I have adjusted the settings from Control Userpasswords2 by unchecking the "users must use a username and password to use this computer" but still am required to click on my name on the logon screen. I've also adjusted the same setting in TweakUI for XP with no help Another issue, which has happened on two different computers is when I attempt to use the Panda Scan my anti-virus warns that it contains a virus and will not let me proceed with the scan.I am using XP Home version, a single user on a non-network computer and I consider myself to be an intermediate user.
