A very minor nuisance I know, but my pop up blocker requires me to hold control every time I want to open a new window. Is there an effective, free pop up blocker that doesn't require this effort (I sit at a funny angle to the right of my keyboard with my feet up!)I currently use Pop Up Stopper which is otherwise very, very good.
I've defraged C and cleaned up my start up programmes in msconfig and also tried bootvist but that seems to have slowed boot time down not speeded it up? When I boot up and go into task manager my CPU is going like crazy at around 90% for about 5 minutes it finally boots up at around 7 minutes.I'm on windows xp home SP3, 80gb HDD, Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.73 ghz and my laptop is only 6 months old.Does anyone know a good programme to speed things up?
Where is the blocker tool used to keep Windows XP SP2 as far away as possible? According to the latest Windows Platform eMails, "Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 will be posted to Automatic Updates (AU) on July 26. To assist customers who want to block SP1 until their deployment plans are finalized, a blocker tool (similar to that offered for Windows XP SP2) is available."
i know that the rule of thumb is to turn this service off at home, which i did, but i can't remember why.is it to prevent receiving pop-ups even if you have pop-up blocker software installed or is it something else?
I have installed, in my computer, Yahoo Toolbar with the Pop-up blocker and Internet Explorer 6.0 Pop-up blocker is enable too.Is there any problem to have them both enable? My operating System is Windows XP-SP2.
Today I got a virus that kept trying to sell me things that my pop-up blocker seemed unable to block when I went from page to page, the Internet Explorer said I might have a virus and asked if I wanted a free scan to eliminate this virus. I didn't do anything but restart my computer and clear my internet temp files, cookies and history, then I did a System Restore and when I was done with the restore all my saved game files were as they were before I restored my computer. So did System Restore actually restore my computer. The last time I restored my computer I lost some saved games, but this time I didn't. Why?
I plan on reformatting soon and I was wondering what you all think are the best programs to install on my computer afterwards. Any favorite programs you have that you recommend to me. (e.g. Adaware).
I have a desktop PC with Windows XP.Have had problems with Blue Screen of Death and have run a diagnostics test on the hard drive (as suggested in a forum) which shows the hard drive is on its way out.I have a replacement hard drive, but before I start doing anything (I am pretty much a complete beginner compared to everyone else out there) - could anyone recommend any guides/tutorials on the internet which explains in simple and comprehensive terms, the best way to replace a hard drive and reinstall windows. I have spent some time googling, but not found anything yet.
Can anyone recommend software that will allow me to copy my Windows onto another hard drive and beable to boot up from there? I appreciate any help you can give me.
I've received a .brw file and don't know what to do with it. Is there a way windows can search and recommend a way of viewing files with unknown extensions? When I select the option to have microsoft find the extension on the web,it sends me to shell.microsoft.com and then says I am unauthorized to access this site.
Buying a new laptop never had 1 before any ideas for a cheap and cheerful 1 i have this desktop upstairs so i want a laptop downstairs while watching tele cheers x
I was cleaning up my pc, and I noticed this new isusweb.dll. I checked on the net, and some places say it's a bug, but not everyone agrees. I think I'm attaching a screen capture.
The Guardian IT boffin has recommended this several times this year, and again today. Is it any good? I'm sure I've read on this site warnings that it is junk/virus-attracting, and that its 'free' scan only prompts you to buy corrective software.
I need XP Professional to install and run a particular application. I have been told that XP Media is XP Pro under the hood and a good substitute. XP Media is ten dollars less that XP Pro. Which should I choose? What is added to XP Media that I might not want? Lastly, since I am buying the upgrade version. I am guessing the version of Windows 98 SE that I have will work.
I've disabled it in the control panel, in the start up programs but it keeps coming up every now and then, I've noticed when I use outlook express for example.how can I disable MSN for good?
i'd jst like to know if eTrust EZ Antivirus (and also its Anti-Spyware and Anti-Spam) is a good option or not for regular use. And also is it a safer bet over Norton? have used it for barely 12 hours, so have no clue as to what its like.I know that Norton majorly slows down the PC and like tht but so far thats what im the most comfortable with. Ive used McAfee twice, for 2 months or so each time. It has let me down both the times, so looking for options apart from Norton. THough heavy on the system, i think its th best. Also, could someone help me with my graphics driver (+ virus) problem? posted the problem yesterday, emtronics has done his best to help me out but not much has really improved.. so if anyone else could also chip in and help me out.
Before getting Win XP, I used Zone Alarm..it served me well.I used to test how good ZA was by using the tests found at www.grc.com. My PC always passed.I just tested my computer with grc's 'leak test' and it FAILED! My PC was penetrated.Does this mean that the firewall provided by Win XP is not doing it's job? If so, should I go back to ZA and disable XP's firewall? (2) I also just heard that Windows Media Player is also a good vehicle for spyware to infiltrate my PC. How can I stop this short of uninstalling the program?
Ok this worm has infected my procinit.exe file in the windows flder norton can't delete it or fix it anyone know of a good prog. to fix this file or a way of getting rid of it?

I keep geeting this message saying explorer has incurred a problem and needs to shut dow. This is a a brand new pc and we even tried a full restore and still does this.
I can't make a good MS-DOS startup disk (for BIOS flashing) from XP SP2.I select the "Make an MS-DOS startup disk" from the Format dialog.Sometimes it gives up without a warning (i.e. the progress bar resets itself and the "Start" button goes active again). Sometimes it completes with a success message. However the disks never boot. I get the following messages from the BIOS (abbreviated a bit!): Looking for boot record on floppy... OK I've tried with a least 7 different floppy disks, all with the same result. Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get it to work? I've also tried to make a MS-DOS boot disk on a Windows 2000 machine by downloading some freeware, but this does not work. I think the floppy drive is OK because I can boot from a Linux floppy disk (memtest86).
