C-Media Electronics Incorporation Install

Jul 21, 2006

After a huge fiasco with ending with me reformatting my hard drive, I've finally updated windows xp. I upgraded SP1 to SP2 most notably. But after a while, I started noticing something- no sound. All except for the internal beep comming from my computer to replace the nice sounds that would usually come from the computer. After doing windows update a few times I noticed that it was trying to install something called "C-Media Electronics Incorporation - Sound - CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device". Since I still had my motherboard CD, I double clicked on the icon, and tried reinstalling the driver. PS. I noticed after a few web searches, Windows XP seems to have problems with C-media stuff, but I haven't read anything about this problem.

Install Media Center - Reinstall CD

Jul 19, 2009

I am currently running Vista but have begun having screen freeze and other problems. I have pretty much decided to install Windows XP. My question is does Windows Media Center come automatically on the XP installation CD or is this something that is separate? I have the reinstall CD's for Vista and there is not a WMC CD with it so I wondered if it was on the OS CD itself.

Media Player Does Not Recognize Music And Video As Media Files

Sep 18, 2007

Having recently had someone else using my computer for a while, installing various software (like winamp and SubEdit player) it seems windows media player (that's what I use) no longer recognises the usual files as media files like .mp3 .wmv .m3u .avi etc etc so when I click open file and select "media files (all types)" in the file type box it shows nothing, so I have to change it to all files which is irritating. Media player still plays everything fine but this is pretty annoying.

Media Edition 2005 Media Centre

Aug 1, 2008

Since installing SP3 my media centre will not open although the rest of XP runs fine. I get a report 'Strong name validation failed for assembly 'C:Windowsehomeehshell.exe. The file may have been tampered with or it was partially signed but not fully signed with the correct private key.I have the original installation disk from Dell, but it won't recognise the key that came with the pc to re install it. Is there any way I can repair the file in question. I have tried uninstalling sp3, and using the recovery program, but nothing is working to make it work again.

Change Media Xp To Pro Xp

Oct 8, 2009

I am in the process of buying Pro-tools, which is a recording software and interface. In doing research I unfortunately discovered that pro tools is not compatible with Window Media Center but is compatible with Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional. Is there anyway that I can get rid of Media Center (without loosing my files) and install XP pro. Do I need the original CD for WMC? If I just go out and buy the CD with XP can I just install that, or do I need to get rid of WMC first?

OS Went From Media Center To Pro

Mar 22, 2010

my OS went from Media Center to XP Pro and I didn't do it! Now I cannot (or computer cannot) access Common Files, among other issues. For example: Trying to open Common Files (to look for file referenced by Logitech install issue) results in error "C: not formatted". My computer probs all began with some auto update that restarted my computer; upon restart, error "Windows could not start because following file is missing or corrupt: C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM". Every time i start computer, it looks for mouse driver, then finds and identifies it then can't "find file specified" and default-directs to C:Prog Files/Common Files/ etc etc. I ran chkdsk, defrag, etc. Finally I ran sfc /scannow and was instructed to insert disk 2 of XP Pro, but I don't have XP Pro. I don't want to take up a whole lot of space with my issue; the above is the end result (so far) of much troubleshooting. And somehow an OS that started off as Media Center became XP Pro.

Installed Pro Over Media

Feb 15, 2009

So basically, I tried repairing a Windows XP Media center install by booting from a Windows XP Pro CD and then using the Repair function.I didn't use Media version, because the only install CD I had on me was Pro. It was probably a bad idea to install Pro over Media.

1.) Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.

2.) When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below. This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer

Install Won't Go Away / Install Went Into The Actual Install Mode

Dec 5, 2009

while trying to fix another problem, by repairing WP on an Averatec 3200, the Install went into the actual install mode, rather than the repair mode. As I don't have the security key (someone who will go un-named, but I have my suspicions, threw away the plastic CD holder with the key taped to the back) I can't continue the install and I can't get the install off the computer. The reason that I was trying to repair is that I have the Log-on Virus which makes it impossible to log on and do anything about the virus. Can't even get to SAFE mode to try to remove the virus with Spyware Doctor.
