i need to install a windows media update to put music on my mp3 i get a message that it cannot be found when i tried to go to microsoft updates to get service pac 2 i cannot get it to open it says it is taking too long it is timed out.

View 11 Replies View RelatedHaving recently had someone else using my computer for a while, installing various software (like winamp and SubEdit player) it seems windows media player (that's what I use) no longer recognises the usual files as media files like .mp3 .wmv .m3u .avi etc etc so when I click open file and select "media files (all types)" in the file type box it shows nothing, so I have to change it to all files which is irritating. Media player still plays everything fine but this is pretty annoying.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have never had a problem before with windows updates. however, It says I need to download that windows validation tool so I click on it to download and install and it goes through everything like it should then says it failed to install, 4 times now it comes up error 0X80070005 I went through the thing where Microsoft is suppose to help you they get info and then help you solve it, I stilll haven't heard a thing from them. The funny part is that I downloaded the windows defender (Microsoft Antispyware) and to do so I had to go throught the windows validation and no problem it went through it and I downloaded it. Is that the same thing as this windows update? anyway I can't find error 0X80070005 can anyone help because I got thinking that I haven't had any windows updates for awhile I wonder if I can't get any until I get this downloaded? View 3 Replies View Relatedi got windows 2000 sp4 every time i try too download windows update it wont install everytime i try to open the page sometimes it freezes an some times it wont but when i do get to the page an scan my computer for updates there be 3 updates to instsall an when i hit install updates it just freezes up an dont install. then i try it again go to open the page the page just freezes up an then i have to restart my computer to get the page off cause the ctrl alt & delete wont take it off my screen can any help with this.

I just tried to switch to the guest profile and received a message that it could not find a profile and to be sure I was connected to the network. I then created a new profile and got the message that "Windows canot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default.It would appear that I have corrupt files in profile and the only apparant solution is to foremat. I say that becasue I can't find a fix anywhere.

Well, I got the latest version of the Real player and clipped its wings so it wouldn't take over every audio and video file i have. Then downloaded the latest QuickTime player (after uninstalling the old one.) Every time an attempt is made to install the QuickTime player after 11 or so seconds into the process it stops and gives me this little message: "1607: Unable to install Installshield Scripting Runtime."

I got an OS disk from dell but i am unsure of how to repair my system.I inserted the disk, clicked on Install Windows XP and selected the upgrade option, but all this did was give me system a Windows XP Pro option at start up.this is really giving me a problem. apparently now i have 2 Operating systems on my computer.
