I am trying to help my son with his computer. I hooked it up and got the following message:Disk Boot Failure Insert System Disk and Press Enter I inserted his Windows XP Pro (SP1) disk and it started doing it's thing. When it finished, it asked if I wanted to install or repair. I tried both and got the same message - that Win. XP Pro couldn't find the hard disk drive.
I am running Windows XP Professional and it came up with that message Disk Boot Failure: INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER when i turned on the computer. In my bios it is set up to CD is first boot and HDD is second I dont have a floppy drive and only 1 hardrive...I do not have the original windows xp pro installation cd, but I do have a full unused version of windows xp home edition installation cd and I put that in and booted off of that it started loading up like its supposed to then I got to the screen that said to start installing windows xp press enter so i did that then it went to the agreement thing and said press f8 to aggree to these terms i did that and it braught up a new screen saying
Having recently had someone else using my computer for a while, installing various software (like winamp and SubEdit player) it seems windows media player (that's what I use) no longer recognises the usual files as media files like .mp3 .wmv .m3u .avi etc etc so when I click open file and select "media files (all types)" in the file type box it shows nothing, so I have to change it to all files which is irritating. Media player still plays everything fine but this is pretty annoying.
each time i try and error message appears: "gdiplus.dll is missing".what can i do to fix the problem? iv already tried downloading the software from the microsoft website but the same message came up.iv also searched my pc for the gdipus.dll file and loads come up!
Since installing SP3 my media centre will not open although the rest of XP runs fine. I get a report 'Strong name validation failed for assembly 'C:Windowsehomeehshell.exe. The file may have been tampered with or it was partially signed but not fully signed with the correct private key.I have the original installation disk from Dell, but it won't recognise the key that came with the pc to re install it. Is there any way I can repair the file in question. I have tried uninstalling sp3, and using the recovery program, but nothing is working to make it work again.
I get this every time I try to open a media file even when I click "always use selected program" This just started happening a few days ago after I ran a bunch of registry cleaners.
Wondering which versions of XP can Access which other versions of XP.Specifically, can media center edition access media center edition , or do one or both OS's have to be XP PRO. My understanding is that XP Home cannot access or be accessed via Remote Access.
I am looking to purchase a laptop that will mainly be used for Accounting (either Quickbooks or Microsoft Accounting 2006) & from time to time conncted to home workgroup to get the internet for down loads. I thought about the Media OS for future use since it would be a laptop but not sure if that will affect what I want to use for now. Does it matter?
I have Windows Vista Business Edition; I know that I cannot install that version over Windows XP Media Center, so I was wondering if I can install XP Pro over Media Center without having to reformat, and then install Vista over Pro (also without having to reformat).
I am in the process of buying Pro-tools, which is a recording software and interface. In doing research I unfortunately discovered that pro tools is not compatible with Window Media Center but is compatible with Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional. Is there anyway that I can get rid of Media Center (without loosing my files) and install XP pro. Do I need the original CD for WMC? If I just go out and buy the CD with XP can I just install that, or do I need to get rid of WMC first?
my OS went from Media Center to XP Pro and I didn't do it! Now I cannot (or computer cannot) access Common Files, among other issues. For example: Trying to open Common Files (to look for file referenced by Logitech install issue) results in error "C: not formatted". My computer probs all began with some auto update that restarted my computer; upon restart, error "Windows could not start because following file is missing or corrupt: C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM". Every time i start computer, it looks for mouse driver, then finds and identifies it then can't "find file specified" and default-directs to C:Prog Files/Common Files/ etc etc. I ran chkdsk, defrag, etc. Finally I ran sfc /scannow and was instructed to insert disk 2 of XP Pro, but I don't have XP Pro. I don't want to take up a whole lot of space with my issue; the above is the end result (so far) of much troubleshooting. And somehow an OS that started off as Media Center became XP Pro.
I am about to purchase an Acer Aspire 9500 for use at work on a windows 2003 server network. It will also be used shen I am traveling and at home. Does anyone know if XP Media Centre has the same functionality as XP Pro where network connectivity is concerned? Also are there any other things that I should be concerned about choosing XP Media Centre over XP Pro?
So basically, I tried repairing a Windows XP Media center install by booting from a Windows XP Pro CD and then using the Repair function.I didn't use Media version, because the only install CD I had on me was Pro. It was probably a bad idea to install Pro over Media.
1.) Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.
2.) When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below. This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer
I'm thinking of builidng a new high end gaming PC, and will be using AMD 64-bit CPU. The big question in my mind is which OS would be the best. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?
For months I had no problem ripping cd's and playing the music on WMP10. Suddenly the system will no longer do either. Clicking on any of the listed songs results in other music playing which, obviously was not affected. I might add that listed number of times previously played were all erased. Has a new policeman for copyrighted music shown up somehow?
how can I tell if a hard drive is bad or not. getting error..press Ctrl Alt Delete to restart but just keeps going back to the error.this computer was fine the day before.
I want to watch tv and surf the internet from my television set. What is the best hardware set up for this? I have DSL internet connection and Digital Cable. I would consider changing everything in order to be able to combine both activities on one set. I also download videos (from Tivo and from the internet.) I am maxing out my storage in both.
pc one plus and a Media pc two. Both running XP Pro I can connect and control the media pc using remote desktop no problem. The trouble is that when I exit from remote desktop the host pc is left in screensaver mode, and when I log on again, which is a bit of a pain as I like to hide the keyboard behind the telly. I do control the media pc quite regularly to load music files
When I insert an audio CD into my CD ROM drive it plays automatically and then I do not know which media player plays the CD. I have WMP,iTunes,GoldWave,Realplayer and quick Time in my Entertainment folder.Task manager does not indicate as to which application or process is being used for audio.I would like to know which program/application is in use at the time the CD is playing. Besides I do not want to disable the autoplay of the CD.
At some point, in the last week, or so, I started to download this program. Within seconds, my computer froze. I could not back out of the download or even shut down from the START menu. I had to do so manually.Ever since, I see two boxes on Start-up: one says "TrayApp" and asks me to insert a CD-rom disk to access the program. Another says "Error 1706" and that no valid source can be found for TrayApp product. Every so often, I see a screen asking me to insert a disk for Viewpoint Media Player. My CD-rom drive is not functioning, so I couldn't do that, in any case, even if I had the disk.
