I did have XP and Vista on my PC, But I removed Vista ( I dont want it back just yet) I had the problem with Missing NTLDR and i fixed that, Now it says Bootmgr is missing press ctrl + alt + del to restart.I have used the good results at Gooooooogle and from what i have found its a vista thing with bootmgr.

Problem is, the boot loader is still coming up telling me to choose between "Earlier Version of Windows" and "Windows Vista". How to I get rid of it without using Vista's boot manager?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows Vista on My XP macin, but on another hard drive, I checked it out and then after a while I reformated the HD, and removed Windows Vista from the boot.ini, making my XP set as the default. With Vista removed from my hard drive, well for some reason every time I boot my XP system I have to choose the XP system. If I do not make it before the 30 secons I get a message that the operating system is missing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have started to rebuild my desktop as it has become slow. I purchased the PC with windows XP professional and have the sticker in on the box with the license key. However, I used a Windows Genuine Advantage Kit for Windows XP professional disk to rebuild. When it asked me for the Product Key I entered the code on the chassis but it says this is not valid. I received an email with the Product Key for WGA disk but I do not have the email anymore with the yellow product key although the WGA box does have the Certificate of Authentication on it.c, how do I get another copy of the email with the Product key or get to a point where the product key.

I need help with this this virus it has removed task manager from being activated and made my desktop disappear and I also can't access my start menu. My Ad-aware program has detected it and it is located in the registry. I can activate Task Manager but thats pretty much it because it keeps on reappearing in the registry... I can pretty much open anything I need to from task manager and I could get the desktop open but im not sure anymore. This programs also won't let me run my virus scanner. This program also disabled my system restore.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a dual boot system Vista/XP with my HP Media Center purchased in 2007 with Vista pre-installed. Inside Vista I created the partition for XP (disk D and rebooted with the 'XP Pro SP2' inside. After selecting its correct partition for installing it copies all files on hard disk and it reboots in order to start its installation, upon rebooting and starting first time from hard disk, it says that there is an error in the system and stops. If I install only XP on the system it works correctly even though some newest hardware is not recognized. I had already made a dual boot two years ago with a 2007 XP Student Edition and it smoothly. If it is due to the XP version being too old that maybe cannot deal with the boot record created by Vista
Or perhaps such an old XP cannot recognize a boot hard disk that is not C:?
Is there a way to bypass this point (perhaps fixing the boot record) in order to continue correctly the installation?

I originally had Vista Business edition on my laptop and decided to dual boot with XP. So far I created a partition on the same drive (C: ) as Vista and installed XP on it. how do I choose between Vista and XP when my computer boots up? When I turn on my computer it boots straight into XP and doesn't show that menu where it gives me a choice of which OS I want to boot

After it finishes the initial installation and restarts it says to press any key to boot from the CD. I wait without pressing anything and than it says that there was an error reading the disk. If I remember correctly, after it restarts it goes strait into windows setup. This happens every time I try restarting, but I can get back into vista by putting the hard drive to boot first. Furthermore, I am sometimes unable to open them unless I move them to a 'trusted' directory. So I defined a trusted directory, moved the file(s) there, and can work. But when I just now tried to open an Office 2000 Word file, I received a different error message, namely ' You are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your registry policy setting.', with instructions to disable the restriction via regedit. When I looked at the registry data, there was no 'Office' tab whatsoever under the Microsoft tab beneath Policies. So I'm unable to edit the registry to 'unblock' access to such legacy files.
View 10 Replies View RelatedDell that has been fried by lightning and wants me to get the pictures off the Hard Drive. No problem, sort of. The problem is that now I see no info when I boot the computer. The monitor only comes to life when windows starts up. So, I can't enter into the BIOS, change my boot drive, mess with my arrays, or anything. I'm using Windows XP SP2. My HDD are SATA while the Dell's was IDE (just thought I'd throw that out there).
Problem occurs after the Dell HDD has been removed.
I get the following message windows on bootup that the following can't be found and they have to be removed or added to the registry:
C:Windows..Program~1Common~1Micros~1MSINFOinfo32.exe and C:Windows..Program~1Common~1Micros~1MSINFOmsinfo32.exe I also can't open Word 2000 because of a Runtime problem error message. All errors occurred at the same time. Running Win XP SP1.
I have a new laptop that came with Windows Vista. I have been trying to load it with Windows XP because Windows Vista didnt work. I am pretty sure a format and clean install will wreck my warranty, hence the dual boot. So far, I have been able to partition and install XP SP-2 to a partition. I've booted into XP fine but my Vista partition is not available. I think that the partition table or MBR has been corrupted.
So to repair this, what I did was boot up from the Vista recovery DVD and run the 'startup repair' option to reload the bootloader for Vista and thus, enable dual booting. When I rebooted I got a black screen saying 'Invalid Partition Table' or something to this effect. I tried repairing the MBR and so on and so forth from the console on the recovery DVD but this proved to be pretty much totally fruitless. So I went through and did an install of Windows XP once again, to my other drive partition I had created. So I am basically where I started.
Original running program on my computer when purchased was windows vista. Im a graphic designer and my programs had issues, so my tech changed my system to xp. View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a faulty laptop off my friend assuming that it just needed a fresh install off Vista, I installed Vista and now on bootup i get the error saying a file is missing, the file is usually "winload.exe" but can sometimes be other files which I cant remember the name of. Some times Vitsa will load up fine and the laptop would be perfect, but 90% percent of the time i got this error, whichis really boggling me.
I then tried to do a fresh install of XP, during the install I get a blue error screen, saying there is something wrong with my hardware and to run fdisk on my hard drive. I couldnt do this due to not being able to boot up so I bought a fresh new hard drive trying to fix the problem. I installed this HD and started the XP installation again, I am still getting the error message and I am stumped on what to try next.
I had had 2 operating system on 2 hard drives (XP and Vista) I took vista off and replaced it with media center. I could boot both xp and media center but the vista boot screen always shows up and would have to go into "ealier versions of windows" and choose my OS from there. All are running Win XP.Seems that they turned on their computers today or yesterday and all their icons are missing.The only thing that they are able to get to is the task manager, nothing else.I haven't heard of any virus'/ trojan's/ or malware resently that causes this and reading ton's of descriptions takes too long.
I'm having problems dual booting XP with Vista. My first problem is that I can't see the space I create from when I shrink the volume on the XP install screen. I have 2 HDs, both over the 137 GB limit (or whatever it is) so I assume it may be related to that. Also the main HD has a separate partition for Vista.
I don't really use the one HD so I was going to just install XP on that and be done with it. Well when I went to do that, it said that it couldn't recognize the formatting on the C drive or it may be damaged and would need to reformat it to continue. I canceled out of it and then my pc wouldn't boot. I had to put the Vista cd in to repair it
I'm thinking about unplugging the C drive and then trying again. Or would that cause problems when I plugged it back in?
I loaded a second disk drive with Vista Beta 2 and have XP on another drive.Problem is I don't see Vista as an option to boot from? What is the name of the file(s) I have to edit to get this to work?

I had partitioned my HD to run XP (pro sp3) and Vista. Not liking vista, I deleted it and merged the two partitions into one, XP. Now when I boot I still get the option to boot to vista or an earlier OS. There is only one OS so I thought that would just be gone. Its not.
