Boot Error- With Missing Or Corrupt File Toskrnl.exe

whenever I boot the system, I come up with the following message: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>system32 toskrnl.exe re-install a copy of the above file. every time I try to boot the CD, the same error message occurs. I've already tried to change the boot order so the CD-ROM drive would be first. I have also selected the CD-ROM drive to be the boot device, but the message always pops up.
xp pro, abit kd7, xp2400 2gb pc2700, 80gb maxtor, nvidia fx 5700. had an error on boot : windows rootsystem32 toskrnl.ex missing or corrupt replace file.found the fix for that restarted computer started to boot showed bargraph screen then went to restart and repeated.tried fixboot no change tried chkdsk no change. but got to 25% and said 1 or more unrecoverable errors.will not boot into safemode. can i get to restore to an earlier date through recovery console?
XP PRO SP2- Recieve the following message upon unsuccessful boot attempt. "WINDOWS COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT: <WINDOWS ROOT> SYSTEM32HAL.DLL (not yelling ) I have tried to boot from my xp pro cd to utilize the recover utility however the computer will not boot from the cd. I able to use a dos boot disk however my keyboard is USB and I cannot find USB drivers to work under dos, so I was unable to do anything at that point. It was my hope that I could work through dos to edit the boot.ini file.
I do not want to reinstall windows. If I have to I will place the hard drive in another computer as a slave and work on it that way but I'd rather not. The only other tower type computer I have other then laptops is running xp home SP2.

I have an old computer with an Intel Celeron 467 MHz processor, 128 ram and I'm running Windows XP SP2. Earlier this week I came to turn on my computer, and could not log on to Windows. "Windows could not start because the follwing file is missing or corrupt Windowssystem32configsystem." I reinstalled XP. I couln't access the repair install. Then I thought maybe someone had gotten into my computer and I downloaded Zone Alarm...Big mistake. Since then my computer freezes, programs jam, I keep losing my internet connection,(DSL) and I get "cannot find server" messages. Its also slower as molasses in winter. A little better since the removal. Obviously Zone Alarm was removed and i went back to Windows firewall. I also use Ad-Aware, AVG, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster and I use Registry Mechanic and TuneUp Utilities.
I have a desktop pc with XP Home Edition. It's an HP and it looks like there are two operating systems on it. One is the regular XP Home Edition load and the other seems to be the Recovery one if you run the Recovery utility that HP offers at boot up. I'm not sure what to do to fix this. If I try to run the recovery from HP it says that some data might be lost which I do not want. Is there any way to fix this hal.dll file using some type of utility disk? Or any other way?

what i would like is a step by step of how to repair this problem i have tryed copying this file from the xp disk to copy ntoskrnl.exe as follows e:where e is my cd drive e: copy e:i386toskrnl.exe c:windowssystem32 and it tells me file cant be found but when i do a dir e:i386 it gives me the file.
So this morning I left my laptop on while going to college and then work, after work I came home the laptop was off. Weird I thought I start it up and It keeps giving me an error that the "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM".It tells me to instert the Windows XP cd, or set up cd.Now I havent done it yet because I want to know is there anyway to save my stuff that I have on my harddrive? and DO NOT WANT IT TO FORMAT MY HARDDRIVE.The reason is I have FINAL PROJECTS for my term papers and also FINALS and all information related to college. I am really worried that I dont have it anymore and I dont know what I would tell my college proffesors. Please someone if you know how to save the portion of the disk thats not windows please help.
Get message "Cann't find import;dll may be missing, corrupt or wrong version file "RTL70.BPL", error 126. Trouble shooting steps taken - 1. Turned off System Restore, 2. Ran Disk Clean Up, 3. Ran CW Shredder, 4. Ran Ad-Ware, 5. Ran Spyware (Spy-bolt, Microsoft Antispyware), 6. Ran AVG Antivirus, 7. Rebooted in the Safe Mode, 8. Reran steps 2-6, 9. Rebooted in the Normal Mode, 10. Turned System Restore back on. Still get warning message.
PC wont boot up any more , it says there could be a currupt or missing file , it says its config system and says it might be able to repair the file using the install disc. i have a System Recovery CD-ROM

All of a sudden I cannot boot up my Toshiba laptop (2.3mhz pent4, 512 RAM, Windows XP Home with SP2). I get the error message "Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:C:windowssystem32configsystem".By hitting the F8 key when starting I can get the start menu and I've tried booting into safe mode and I've tried "boot using last known good configuration" - but still get the same error message.
Recently, when booting up, I have been getting 2 error messages (both appear twice). They refer to files not found or missing but I cannot begin to identify the files - all that I see are a series of little squares: 7 in a row, then a space, then 14 more. I click on OK and away they go and everything else seems to procede normally. I have a Dell Dimension, Windows XP Home. A call to Dell was not encouraging - they recommended re-installing the system. Oh dear. I have Norton Firewall and Anti-Virus, Microsoft's new Anti-Spy, WinPatrol, AdAware and Spybot. I am FAIRLY confident that my system is clean, but then, who knows? I have run registry checks and let them do their business (I don't fool around with the registry on my own, I am not a trouble-maker). If I need to re-install, I will work up the courage to do so, but until then...maybe someone here has had some experience with these error messages. At least I would learn something new. For now, my system SEEMS to be working OK, but what do I know. This could be a harbinger of worse things to come.
I get an error on boot up telling me that the config file is corrupted or missing. IT also states to please insert CD to try and repair this problem. Press "r" before the first screen. If I do that will it try and reinstall XP? Will I lose all my data?
So my sister gets hold of a computer in the house and ruins it, and here is the dilemma I am facing: I turn on the computer and right away i come to this message.... So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts. I just boot up my computer and a black screen (which i've seen before and has only led to re-install XP) came up saying the following file is missing or corrupt: /system/ntfs32(I don't recall the exact file name - next time I will write it down). But i'm sure many have experience with this.Now somehow I was still able to enter Windows after reboot and F8 (never happened before - i've always had to re-install). What can I do NOW to prevent this next time from happening and perhaps (almost certain actually) having to re-install Windows XP? Can I get that file from somwhere? Am I missing a service Pack? I have SP2 for Windows XP Professional version 2002. (I double checked My Computer>Properties).

Winows says file windowssystems32configsystem is corrupt or missing. It says that I can attempt repair using the original setup CD Rom and typing "R" at the first screen. I have an Emachine 4160. It was loaded at time of purchase and only recovery disc were supplied. I can reboot with the recovery disc but " how can I save my pictures "? Attempts to enter safe mode have been unsuccessful.
I shut down my laptop before I left last night and when I hope, my system didnt shut down all the way and there was a blue screen saying an error had occurred and if this was the first time I had seen the message to shut the ocmputer down and restart it.I did as instructed. I have a big problem. My CFOs computer has been messed up with the uninstallation of Norton. The computer will not boot after trying to run Autocheck (file is missing or corrupt) and the gives an error. I tried to use the Windows XP disc and the setup sees the partition but cannot recognise the format.Unfortunatley I don't know any commands in command line / repair console. Does anyone know commands to get the machine to run checks / get the machine to install XP? Formatting is the last option as there are some data on the machine that is not backed up.
Last night while watching the news, my computer rebooted all on it's own way over on the other side of the room and now I have the following error message. I have been getting Norton (Corporate, installed by someone else) notificatons for a few weeks about a Trojan (cache.cachekit) and Norton could not get rid of it. Now I cant boot up and it tells me my file(System32/system/config) is missing or corrupt. I was thinking it was my Trojan I couldnt get rid of, what do you think? Also, my OS was installed by someone else so I didnt have my own disk, however I have ordered one and it should come in a week. If it is my elusive Trojan, for one, how do I get rid of it for good, and also, when I get my disk I dont know exactly what to do to fix the computer. I cant bring it up in safemode either. I have never installed a OS, but I have installed other software-on a properly functoning computer that is. Do I absolutely have to wipe my hardrive clean, and if so, how do I do it?
My hard drive crashed on my laptop. I had a running dual boot environment of Win2K and XP. Both the Win2K and XP were backed up with Acronis Ver11. After replacing the hard drive I created the partitions needed for Win2K and XP using a Win2K CD. Formatted and installed Win2k on the first partition. Did a restore of Win2K via Acronics. I used the restore because of the other software I had installed/running on the first partition (Win2K). The XP/OS application I have needs three partitions. The three were created by the Win2K CD and then formatted via Disk Management (Win2K). Next I restored my XP/OS via Acronics on the second partition. Modified the Boot.ini file for both Win2K and XP. The Win2K boots no problem. Selecting XP I get the following error: Missing or corrupt file Windows system32 configsystemd. I did copy in the NTldr and NTDetect from the i386 folder (XP CD), to the XP OS no change.
Well, I woke up this morning to turn on my computer, and I got an error like this. "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem. You can try repairing by using the original windows xp setup cd, press r on the first screen." Well, after scrounging for the xp cd, I put it in and booted from the cd, tried to do a repair install, but the repair option was not available. I could only install another copy of xp (onto the current copy) which I didn't want to do if it means that all my data is lost (I really don't want to lose them again!).I exited and googled up on why repair was not an option (I'm using my laptop btw), and some random dude told another guy with a similar problem to do chkdsk and bootcfg in recovery console. I went into recovery console and kind of played around with bootcfg, and I used the /rebuild function thinking it was repair, and then it asked me to type something and I was confused, so i entered "n" (for no). Well, basically now when I restart I have the option of booting up "Xp Home Edition" or "n", both of which lead to the missing file message, but how did I make two windows? And can I get rid of this "n" windows I made?
It worked fine for a few days, then I got this blue screen that said I have a system error and that I am missing a file or it is corrupt c:windowssystem32configsystem.Now, this was fine because I thought I knew the answer to this problem, which is incidentally the answer to another recent problem posted on this board, it can be found here:URL...I performed the operation, and again, it was all well and good for a few days.Then I got the same problem again. I used the same solution to make a fix.Then it happened again.So, my question is what's the problem? Do I have a hardware problem? I even used two different WinXp install discs to solve this problem on different occasions since I only needed the recovery console and I thought that the original disc might have become damaged or something.
When I started up my computer yesterday it said I had a missing or corrupt file and I needed to reinstall windows. So I put my disk in and it said loading files then it said setup is starting windows and then it said loading files. It kept doing this over and over and over. So I took the CD out and tried starting the computer. I got a disk read error. This is where I am now.
