i know this may sounds weird but their is this small blue dot on my desktop. it is about "." that size and i first noticed it on my desktop but then i even noticed it when i booted up my computer before i even got into windows and now, even when i play games, it is there.
View 4 RepliesAbout a week ago windows told me that it had "detected spyware" so began installing antispyware software. After this had completed, and I was told that I needed to spend the $24 to buy the software to rid me of all the various nasties the internet supplies, i deleted the software and had developed the problem of not being able to see my wallpaper. Since looking round I've found that it's now down the active desktop being disabled somewhere along the line, without my knowledge. Having gone through the largely useless and time consuming "help" that is given on the Microsoft help section, I've now discovered that, although i do have active desktop on me computer, i have no way of getting to it, turning it on, or even finding any trace of it. Can anyone help, as my desktop is now just blue with icons.

I was using Comcasts free McaVee and then got a notice that my free subscription has expired. Comcast now provided Norton for free, so I went there and downloaded that virus software. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a HPDV8000 laptop and somehow managed to pick up this Antivirus XP 2008 Trojan Horse at some point. Pop ups about viruses etc were coming up so I used lavasoft's adaware and it seemed to remove it. After a cold boot, the desktop constantly restarts itself, followed by 0X0000008E Blue Screen. If I boot in safe mode with or without network connections, it does the same thing. If it sits at windows login. for any length of time the same blue screen stop codes come up.

I have no desktop icons and no wallpaper on one of my computers, but I have the start toolbar and tray icons, and I have access to task manager and all my programs. However, when I right click on the desktop and click arrange icons all the options are grayed out. Also, I cannot change the wallpaper - it remains solid blue (or any other color) no matter what I try. Neither picture wallpapers nor tiled wallpapers appear. I've included the hijack-this log below.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to bring my husband's older Dell 8100 P4 desktop back to life. It was an old ME system initially. I've done the following:Replaced the motherboard and ide cables New CMOS battery Flashed BIOS Replaced and upgraded the memory Reformatted the harddrive (using another system) and loaded Win XP Pro I've used this same harddrive (with XP Pro) sucessfully on another Dell so I know there is nothing wrong with the boot files. But when I install it in the broke Dell...no joy.
It hangs in the "Windows can not start normally" pick Safe Mode, Last Known Good Config...etc loop. None of the options work and it flashes a quick BSOD dump error (too fast for me to see) and then back through the loop.The BIOS recognizes all the drives, the memory, processor, etc.I also tried to boot with alot of the extra hardware removed (removed NIC, sound card, modem, un-hooked optical drives, etc) --- still same no-boot loop.
I forgot to turn my computer off last night at work and I came back to it this morning with a blue screen that says "Spyware Infection", so I ran Ad-aware and Microsoft Antispyware and between the both of them they caught lots of spyware. I've deleted them but the blue screen is still there. Another thing, when I click on IE shortcut I'm brought to a blue screen telling me that "my information is vulnerable..." and I have three links at the bottom of the screen and they all take me to the same website: spysheriff.com. I found a txt document in my local folder with spysheriff's site on it.

I have read most of your fixes BUT in my case no matter what I do it ALWAYS boots to this screen. Trying to boot to Safe Mode results in a list of drivers prefixed by ?multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)c:windowsdriver.sys etc The machine will not boot from Floppy or CD and I?ve tried every combination of boot sequence under the F12 menu. In the BIOS it will not allow me to change any relevant settings, only the ?system date?, ?system time? and ?quiet boot?.and I cannot select the dropdown menu items either. Booting under Normal Startup, I see the Windows Logo and all that, but then the blue screen appears. I?ve tried removing the hard disk to get it to boot to floppy, removing the battery (which is totally dead), memory module, etc. Only thing left I think is to sling it in the Caribbean Ocean and go drink a bottle of rum.

beginning dump of physical memory dumping physical memory to disk: and counts up to 100 then the computer restarts. i was able to get into safe mode to try a system restore but when the computer restarted it never finished the install (it actually gave me the confirmation that the restore was successful while i was doing a repair install later on) i have tried going through the windows install disc repair utility and doing a chkdsk /p and a chkdsk /r upon doing /r it froze at 53 percent and did not move (i left it for a good 4 hours the first time before restarting it.. and then over night the second time.. and both times it never passed 53 percent............
When I click on desktop and select properties to change the desktop wallpaper I have a list of family photographs!I still have the desktop wallpaper folder in windows web folder but how do I put it back into the desktop and remove the ones that are mysteriously there.

now whenever i open my pc, my desktop and taskbar and start menu,etc goes away after a few seconds! Now i rely on the task manager..
Several unwanted desktop icons appeared recently (I think they come via Search2000 when IE is used). They won't right-click for deletion, nor will they allow themselves to be drop-dragged to the recycle bin. They don't appear in the desktop icon list when using the desktop cleanup feature.

Non shortcuts such as my computer or outlook express open normally. I have recreated all shortcuts and the new shortcuts still won't open.
