AVG Anti-Spyware Is Grey / Won't Stay On Task Bar?
Aug 12, 2007
AVG Anti-Spyware is "Grey" & Won't stay on task bar? I have AVG Anti-Spyware Free edition and I can't get it to stay on my task bar. When I run the spyware it will go on the task bar but its "Grey" instead of of the colorful icon it should be.I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still I get same results?
I currently have Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite 6 & it is due to expire in about 8 days. I was wondering what others of you used for anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewalls etc.I have heard that sometimes it's not the best idea to use a complete package, like ZA internet security suite, for the whole lot You hear a lot of conflicting info about them all, I've heard that AVG is good, Norton isn't, someone said windows defender was good.
I've got a PC with Win XP SP2. I'm currently using Etrust antivirus and Windows Defender on it. But, I'm suspecting it's got virus and/or spyware that those two softwares are not detecting. Can anyone recommend me other good anti-spyware and antivirus software (preferably free)?
My PC is infected with some bad stuff and I'm not sure what to do. So far I have tried to run Spybot S&D, Registry mechanic, ewido anti-spyware, Spyware Doctor and SpywareBlaster all of these programs seize when carrying out a scan and I have no option but to close the pc down with the power button. I am pretty much at a loss as what to do next and was hoping one of you kind souls could help me. I am running xp.
I would be very grateful for some of your input. We have recently suffered from several Trojan viruses and an attempt to install Sony Ericsson's phone suite. I have hopefully got rid of both. Though I still get the occasional crash of win23 services. My AVG is up to date and has not found any more viruses and there is no detected spy ware. However as a result the task bar, start menu and IE have all gone Grey.
I've been using MS Anti-Spyware Beta 1 for several weeks. Recently, when trying to update, the program says it downloads and installs updates but when I check for future updates the same one supposedly already downloaded and installed shows up again. For example, I got to definitions 5729, but 5733 was but wasn't installed several times; and then it was 5735 the same. So I uninstalled the program and downloaded and reinstalled it. Now I have definitions 5725 and have tried without success to download and install 5735 several times. Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be? I also have Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Bazooka, and Spyware Blaster.
Ok so I have this computer.. and I wanted to just kill a few processes running ... but I can't get the task manager up.. so I was going to just take them off the start up list.... but I can't get the MSconfig to say open either.
I cannot get the autohide for the taskbar to continue to work. When applying the autohide it does hide until you put the mouse pointer down to the taskbar then it reappears and will not rehide even if you click on the desktop. Is there another setting that is conflicting this one?
I ran some anti-spyware progams the other day and ever since, upon startup, I get an error message stating:"Error loading C:program filesWildTangentAppsCDAcdaEngine0400.dll The specified module could not be found." Is this file critical? How can I either repair this or elominate the error message? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am using Windows XP, Explorer 6.At times I can hear something running and slows down or even stops what ever I am doing at the time.Sometimes just for a couple seconds but sometimes longer.Last night it ran for a longer period of time so I went Ctr/Alt/delete processes.I found that the svchost.exe system memory usage was running around 50,000 and normally it is around 19,500.I do not have any scans set to run automatic and the only thing that I have running all the time is Super Anti Spyware.
I decided to try the Avira Personal Free Anti-Virus on my computer. Well, in the main inferface it only says that anti-virus is on, but i dont see anything about anti-spyware on. However on the website it says the free version gives anti-spyware so I am guessing in the program when it says Anti-Virus, it means anti-virus and anti-spyware right? On the website i saw it did say is gives both. Please help as if it has no anti-spyware, then i wont use it.
There is a computer at home which is booting very slowly now. Besides doing the regular checks (anti-spyware/malware, HijackThis, etc.) I want to be able to look at a log (or a log viewer) after boot to know exactly what in the boot process is taking so long, what exactly is being run/loaded and how long it is taking. Is there a way I can see that in Windows? Or any reliable Freeware/Shareware tool?
I tried to start it up and it takes forever to load. It takes a couple of minutes to open any of the icons on the desktop too (Mozilla, Word). I tried to clean up as best I could. I ran some spyware programs and antivirus and nothing too much showed up -- no viruses. It takes so long to run these programs that I go off and do other stuff and come back hours later and the scans are still running! Is there anything that you can recommend to get the laptop running as it should?
I have XP Home and Microsoft Anti spyware found some malware (IBIS Toolbar) that was removed but on rescans, it shows up again, but now located in the restore points. I believe that I have to turn off System Restore and reboot and then turn restore back on and do a new restore point.
My HP Pavilion a1530n Windows XP D820 Processor 1024 MB Memory 250 GB Hard Drive Desk Top Comp is under attack and locked down unable to function due to "Antivirus Soft". I did a search "How to get rid Of" and was given suggestion to download XDelBox to my desktop do a scan and follow instructions. I came to my Laptop because nothing is working on desktop downloaded to a flash memory stick and dropped it to desktop. Still unable to click and function a scan..
I onstalled the eZula (Hot Text) exe but it all removed. Lately it has corrupted my Task Manager. After Ctrl/Alt/Del I get a single layered utility which shows CPU usage only. It is always at or near 100% usage. There are no other tabs or list of current running tasks.
Windows xp home sp2, Intel 3.0ghz 512MB approx 15 months old.PC shuts down when running AVG anti-virus or AVG anti-spy ware. When either program reads C:/windows/I386 it intermittently powers down. I think there's a corrupt file in the main body of I386, but can't isolate it. I'm not sure which type of file should be in this area.
Sometimes XP gets to the windows splash screen, goes grey and hangs up.Sometimes it doesnt even get that far. When I reset, I can run safe mode though things move very slowly on boot and log off.

Something happened I got blue screen while booting saying if this is the first time reboot. I rebooted but the same big message with blue screen. Rebooted and then from BIOS changed the priority of the boot and started to repair but ultimately had to reinstall the OS (XP Pro). The installment got successful. But my sound icons was gray and there were all yellow items in the device manager under sound-video category.
I installed all the programs in the Intel Express Installer CD that came with the mother board. This installed RestoreIT Lite also. Now rebooted the PC immediately after giving the Administrative password I get a screen with FarStone caption on the upper right of the screen and then that is it. Nothing happens further.
I don't think I have IIS installed on my win 2000 server correctly so I wondering In the windows components wizard, IIS is checked off but the box is grey.
These past couple of days I have noticed that my PC has slow down considerably and everytime my PC is turned on or rebooted, the taskbar would change to a dull boxy grey colour. When I look into the display properties and all the themes have disappeared! I have googled and tried all avenue on the internet to fix this but with no luck. Can someone please help me? Do I have some virus on my PC or something? I have Windows XP on my desktop.
Came home tonight and notice my wallpaper had changed from the sand to just a plain blue. When I go to display and then desktop properties I see that all the choices are grey out or I can not access them. Can some one help me out with this one? I did a scan and found nothing.
There are two excellent spyware removal apps available and they are both FREE so there is no reason to not use them regularly. The two best apps there are for removing spyware are SpyBot Search & Destroy and Ad Aware. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU USE BOTH OF THESE APPS SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES AND VICE VERSA, YOU ARE NOT SAFE USING JUST ONE OF THEM. There is one other app that I HIGHLY recommend is for spyware prevention, SpywareBlaster. This app sets certain registry entries that prevent spyware from ever installing, it DOES NOT run in the background using any resources, you just set it and forget it. Once you have installed these three MUST HAVE apps you then need to update them and keep them up to date. I would recommend checking for updates weekly, it’s just like your antivirus app, you need to stay protected from the latest spyware out there. To update SpyBot just open the app from your start menu (use the advanced mode option) and select “search for updates” it will then show you what updates are available for download, always install all the updates. Another feature that SpyBot has is called “Immunize”, you will see an icon for it. Select the icon and under “Permanent Internet Explorer Immunity” select “Immunize” this works in the same way as SpywareBlaster in blocking new spyware. It also gives you the option of locking your hosts file against hijackers, I highly recommend using this option as well. To update Ad Aware just open it and select “Check for updates now”. For SpywareBlaster it is mostly the same, open it up and select “Check for updates” once you update this you then must select “select all” and then “Protect against checked items” so that the updates you just did take effect. Anything these apps find is spyware and should be removed, if you choose not to remove what is found then you have no one to blame if your pc crashes due to spyware or your privacy is invaded (including these companies stealing your credit card number and identity
I'm experienceing problems running the internet.
