View 1 RepliesI currently have Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite 6 & it is due to expire in about 8 days. I was wondering what others of you used for anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewalls etc.I have heard that sometimes it's not the best idea to use a complete package, like ZA internet security suite, for the whole lot You hear a lot of conflicting info about them all, I've heard that AVG is good, Norton isn't, someone said windows defender was good.

But, I'm suspecting it's got virus and/or spyware that those two softwares are not detecting. Can anyone recommend me other good anti-spyware and antivirus software (preferably free)?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI decided to try the Avira Personal Free Anti-Virus on my computer. Well, in the main inferface it only says that anti-virus is on, but i dont see anything about anti-spyware on. However on the website it says the free version gives anti-spyware so I am guessing in the program when it says Anti-Virus, it means anti-virus and anti-spyware right? On the website i saw it did say is gives both. Please help as if it has no anti-spyware, then i wont use it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried to start it up and it takes forever to load. It takes a couple of minutes to open any of the icons on the desktop too (Mozilla, Word). I tried to clean up as best I could. I ran some spyware programs and antivirus and nothing too much showed up -- no viruses. It takes so long to run these programs that I go off and do other stuff and come back hours later and the scans are still running! Is there anything that you can recommend to get the laptop running as it should?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI currently have Norton Antivirus, but was considering uninstalling it so that less resources are consumed and to free up HD space. It has not really helped me in any way, the last time i got a virus was when i had activeX enabled, which i don't anymore since i use firefox. I also don't stupidly click on .exe files and the sort, so i couldn't get a virus like that.
So do you guys think it is necessary to have an antivirus program? should i keep Norton or can i ditch it?
Have been useing the free "AVG" program for almost a year, and in useing it to scan my "C" drive,it found 83 "nasties" plus 5 virus programs. Was able to remove the 5 virus programs, however in order to remove the "nasties" had to download AVG Pro. on a trial basis. It took care of the "nasties".Does anyone have and use the AVG Pro, and how do you like it? They want almost $39.00 for a two year subscrption, and I am thinking about purchaseing the program. I would love to hear fron anyone (pro or con) about the program.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDownloaded an anti-virus program (Symantec Norton System Works 2005), found I did not like it then uninstalled the program. Now each time I open any program I get a box titles "Run As" with the following message: "Which user account do you want to use" It has two radio button choices, one is me (current user) and my log on name and the other would be if I wanted to select another user. It also has a box to select saying "protect my computer from unauthorized program activity". I have to respond to this box before opening any program and I cannot find a way to stop it from appearing. How do I get rid if this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHave a Dell Trinitron, with windows xp. Some time ago, after an anti-virus program ran, I could no longer access several icons such as Internet Explorer, Opera, CC cleaner and others. When I click these icons, the message given is "The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." Could someone please tell me how to do this? Also, when I restart the computer, a message comes up saying "Windows cannot find file "1"." I think the anti-virus program removed some virus, and a line or two of programming.

I have an oldish comp - about...8 years old, but since I have had it I have done various upgrades over the years, so currently its running:...I have got it running Win98SE, but now have some spare copies of WinXP Home and Pro. I have checked the minimum sys requirements of WinXP, and it fits the minimum, BUT: is it worth it? Would installing WinXP just slow it down more?
The main motovation to upgrade is that I have found that a number of anti-virus programs wont run properly since version udates (example, AVG 6 to 7), and so I thought if I use a spare copy of WInXP, I could make it more secure by being able to run the programs properly (kind of an oximoron, installing WinXP for security...) Anyhow, is it worth doing? or will it just be really slow? If so, is there anyway i can delete what is undeeded, or do tweaking to make it run effectively?
For some reason Computer Assoc. program is running and I just cought it scanning but I don't recall downloading it. I have Norton utilities and don't need this other program. In the past zone alarm firewall asked me if I wanted to allow access and I checked yes because I was lead to believe it was part of my SBC Yahoo DSL. Now I know it's not. I disabled the program in the start up. I believe it can cause a conflict. Maybe I should uninstall it. I'm just puzzeled as to how I came to have this and why all of a sudden this program began asking for access

View 39 Replies View RelatedMy PC recently got a fairly nasty virus (W32-Sinowal-based Maximus! or something along those lines) so we had to get it wiped. A few days later, my computer was all messed up again. I can only boot up in Safe Mode, my sound doesn't work, and it is running slower than normal. I need to find out if I have another virus (although the guy who fixed it downloaded Norton Anti-Virus and it seemed fine for a few days) or if maybe my computer is just dying. It's about three years old and apparently it was outdated before we even bought it. Is there any way the virus could have affected the computer's hard drive or whatever (yeah, I don't quite know what I'm talking about) or have I maybe gotten another virus?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSuggest me good free anti spyware! Which is better Spybot Search & Destroy or Ad-Aware Free Anti-Malware or any other? I'm using Windows XP SP3.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been using MS Anti-Spyware Beta 1 for several weeks. Recently, when trying to update, the program says it downloads and installs updates but when I check for future updates the same one supposedly already downloaded and installed shows up again. For example, I got to definitions 5729, but 5733 was but wasn't installed several times; and then it was 5735 the same. So I uninstalled the program and downloaded and reinstalled it. Now I have definitions 5725 and have tried without success to download and install 5735 several times. Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be? I also have Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Bazooka, and Spyware Blaster.
