E-machines Computer Have Virus
Oct 16, 2006
My mom brought me her e-machines computer today with the complaint that Windows won't load.I think it might have a virus. So I hook it up and turn it on and am greeted with the loading screen before it brings up a windows error screen prompt that looks like a DOS screen. It says how there might have been a power failure or a virus or God knows what, but it gives you three options for proceeding.1) Safe Mode.2) Start with the last known good configuration.3) Start Windows Normally.I tried starting with all three options and it starts to do each one and then restarts and takes me right back to the loading screen before presenting me with the same DOS-looking screen again and the same endless three options.

Two XP Pro machines on a hard-wire network with SP2. The host computer (A) can see the shared files of the other machine (B), and the B machine can see the files for A. However, when I try to access A shared files from B, I get a message that I "might not have permissions." I'm the admin on both machines.

I support 2 schools both have the same problem on different machines 1 school uses desktops the other laptops all different makes and models. All XP Pro machines running SP3. Error checking seems to enable me to log on as administrator (right click local c: drive, properties, tools, error checking tick both boxes run after reboot) this is done in safe mode. All windows updates installed (except annoying ones like windows search 4.0 etc) when the problem occurs I get "windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system. Detail - insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service" followed by "userinit.exe - Application error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000012d)." then the system hangs and i have to force shut down. This has happened after the error checking has completed, logged in as normal and reboot and the problem comes back! I've ran, MRT (Microsoft malicious removal tool), Symantec, AVG and malware bytes and found a big fat nothing!

Where could I go on my home XP machine to see if the 3 users are using web based email accounts (Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.)? I have 3 teenage daughters and I want to be sure I know who they are talking with. Each uses Outlook, also. Would there be files or logs in cookies or another file on the machine?

The Windows Sysinternals group at Microsoft has released Disk2vhd that is a free physical to virtual converter. Disk2vhd allows you to create VHD (virtual hard dive) files from physical drives on your computer while your system is online. The VHD files generated can be used in Microsoft Virtual PC or on Hyper-V server and you will have an instant clone of your machine running virtually. This is perfect for duplicating a production server for a development virtual machine that you can use on a different computer.

I was given a brand new Compaq Presario SR1910NX recently (I have 2 other heavy duty computer I use for video-editing, etc.). It is one of those "pre-loaded" machines with 2 partitions (one for OS; other for backup). The operating system is XP Home and plenty of bloatware. I don't plan on doing anything fancy with the machine - just some basic stuff like maybe a music server, check email, I would like to do a clean install with Windows XP SP2 (primarily to get rid of the partitions, bloatware, and upgrade OS).

I had a trojan Virus in the computer. I think that I got rid of it, but I am not sure could anyone that can read a log please tell me if there is anything else left in the computer. The computer now doesn't stay on-line it disconnects itself. I called the company that provides me with my internet service, and they said that I need a filter for the phone line. The person told me that, that will take care of the problem of the internet disconnecting. I think that it could be the virus I had in the computer. I wasn't able to get on-line for at least a week, I had gone and checked the disk for errors and finally the anti-virus program was able to find the virus's.

I am using XP Home as a "server" to just host some files for everyone to access. We do not have enough in the budget right now to upgrade to XP Pro or 2003 and I was wondering if anyone had a fix for this. When I am on a client machine and try to access the "server" it will prompt for the Guest password. I type in the Guest password I assigned and it shows me all the shared folders. The only thing is that it doesn't prompt for the password on all machines. EX: Client1 prompts for pass, but Client2 doesn't. I have all the windows firewalls turned off.

I tried to download macromedia flash player and for some reason I can't. Also when I search for something on google using mozilla firefox and I click on a link under sponsered links on the right side, I occasionally get this error,"Unable to connect.Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.qksrv.net.

I managed to run a recovery program yesterday which loaded the software , and Im still having the same problems, but now Im not even able to run that program again. Is there anything I can do if I cant even get to the point of logging on in safe mode? I have an ibm netvista that came preloaded with windows xp. I dont have any disk.

I have a Dell desktop computer with Windows XP. Everything had been working fine, up until 2 days ago. On Tuesday, I turned on my computer like usual and I noticed that my monitor was not normal. I could not see anything on my desktop. It was black. And also, the power button was blinking green every 3 seconds and would not stop, until I actually removed the plug from the surge protector. Yesterday the same thing happened when I turned on my computer, but today, when I turned it on, I could see my desktop and the power button was normal green and not blinking. I was happy, until I moved the mouse and the cursor was frozen. Now, it seems like my desktop monitor is fine, but my mouse isn't normal? I unplugged the mouse from the tower and plugged it back in, cleaned out the mouse, and it's still frozen.

I think my computer may have some kind of virus. None of my antivirus and spyware programs are picking it up. My computer just keeps on restarting. It seems that it restarts when too many programs are running and when I am away from the computer for more then half an hour. I never noticed it automatically restarting until about two days ago. Everytime I leave the computer and come back, it has been restarted. How do I fix this?

I recently acquired a virus even though my McAfee is on and updated daily along with my spyware and a firewall. I tried to remove the virus from safe mode to no avail. I am running Windows XP on a Dell and when I rebooted my system a log in screen appeared. Unfortunately I do not remember my password for this computer as I haven't had to use it in 5 or so years. My problem now is how can I bypass the password if possible and how do I restore my system to an earlier date if I cannot get past the password? I know that this can be done by using the F keys but I do not remember exactly how it works.

All of my scans and checks are coming up clean, but i still get an application error that says " the instruction at 0x01a82dc0 referenced memory at 0x01a82dc0. the memory could not be read click on ok to terminate the program" every time i close internet explorer. And some scans I have done with registry scanners say that there are bad keys (i think thats what it said) that need to be repaired. If i do have to repair that is there a free program to do it. Is my intell32 virus gone? Is it say to do my online
banking again?

I restarted my computer in safe mode to see if it would get a program to work. Not only did it not work, it seems to have severely crippled my system. The first thing I noticed (after restoring to normal boot mode) was that my GUI was very simplified not what it usually is for Windows XP. A simple example is that the minimize maximize close buttons look like the Windows 98 version rather than Windows XP. Also, more advertisements were popping up than I was used to which quickly led me to discover that my Norton Personal Firewall and System Works were disabled. When I tried to open them manually, I was greeted instead with an error message which instructed me to reinstall Norton. Though I knew it wouldn't help, I tried to uninstall Norton System Works but the uninstall program didn't execute properly. I then used Symantec's website instructions for uninstalling Norton manually. When I tried to reinstall it, another error message popped up and I have since been unable to install it.Various system utilites are disabled. Device manager displays no devices. None. I attempted to use system restore to restore it to an earlier date. It instructed me to click on a date in bold but the only date in bold was from two minutes after I had destroyed my computer. I restored to that point just for the heck of it with predictable (no) results. Also, my computer doesn't detect a sound card so I can't even listen to music while I fix my computer. I'm still not sure of the full extent of the problem. The internet is working decently (how else would I be posting this?) but certain sites aren't working. The obvious notable one is the Windows Update site. Also, when I tried to update HijackThis to post my log (I'll post it on request) I got the now familiar, "Cannot connect to server," error. Even programs like AIM don't connect properly and I'm currently using an old version-- not even the newest one-- of AIM Express to chat.

There is an unwanted background on my desktop. It is a warning that my computer might be infected with a virus and I suspect that the virus or pop up program actually switched to this file from my previous background, which I would like to restore.I have tried but when I go into Display and Desktop and Background, I can not choose any of the selections. This is a vexing problem, the security warning currently set as the background is ugly.

I have recently downloaded a free program and was going to install it. I ran it, and then my antivirus blocked it because it contained a virus. I have been looking for the program for a very long time, and I was angry that it didn't work. So I allowed the infected program and then the it disappeared. The icon disappeared. I knew I shouldn't have done it, but nothing bad happened to me for about a day. Then, my laptop was slower than normal, internet connection was slow (I'm right next to the router too), and I was getting pop-ups. I tried to do System Restore, but all my restore points were gone! I couldn't even switch months! Also, Automatic Updates was telling me that it was off, but when I checked my settings were the same when I first set them.
