My computer is a windows 8 touchsmart hp.
It keeps saying proxy error unable to connect to the proxy but I've spoken tothe staff at virgin and they are saying its not a proxy error.
Ive tried the 74.125.225.179 and google loads just fine.
I have win 8 in my lappy... I was able to run internet but now it is showing that "proxy server unable to connect ".. then I checked my ip settings the default gateway was gone.now every time I wanted to save it, it was erased from there...

1. can't connect to this network : this message appears every time i try to connect to the internet even at home where the distance between the laptop and the router is less than one meter aand no one is using the internet
2.even if i managed to connect to the network i can't connect to the internet for a while -varies from 5 to 10 minutes-
3. sometimes the network auto disconnects with no error message
4.there is a small '!' above every available network and i remember it disappeared for a while and the networking was perfect
My roommate has a custom desktop PC, which runs Windows 8 x64.
It can't connect to the internet, or the local network. Windows says limited connection, but ping the router IP yields only lost packages. Solving the error with the automatic error solver, displays problems with the DNS.
The roommate says the connection has worked for a limited time, for about a 1/2 hour, but fell out from time to time.
He has tried to connect to our wireless router, a wireless n d-link dir615. It is set to WPA/WPA2 with AES cipher and PSK.The router runs the newest firmware available, which gives no issues for any other device in the house. (Including Iphones, android phones, old and new N-capable, and N-incapable laptops and desktops).
His PC has an almost unused Asus PCE N15 wireless adapter installed.He says it worked on a different network (He just moved in).
I have tried to give him a static IP and dns, both in windows, and get the router to assign one to him.
I have tried to give him an alternative DNS, e.g. OpenDNS.
I have tried to update his drivers, both the ones provided from Asus, but also one from realtek, since the NIC has a realtek chip on it.
So I bought this wireless game controller for my pc. I plugged it in at home and set to trying to getting it connected. It didn't seem to be connecting to any bluetooth network, so I looked for bluetooth in control panel and it didn't exist. I found out how to turn on bluetooth, but it seems in my 'Change PC Settings' menu there is no Wireless option. I went to the windows 8 metro thing and searched for 'wireless' and again nothing comes up at all. I checked my network and sharing center and then to change adapter settings and Ive got my Qualcomm Atheros AR922x Wireless Network adapter there and the device is working fine, just not connected to anything. Does that even work for bluetooth and connecting wireless peripherals?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently use Win 8 on my main PC and on my laptop, I need to connect a Bluetooth speaker to either of them but keep running into the same problems.The PC is an Asus P8Z77V De-luxe, with its own Broadcom WIFI and Bluetooth. The Laptop is a Lenovo Z480, again with Broadcom WIFI and Bluetooth.
Whenever I try to connect the speaker, the device is detected correctly, then as soon as I click on it to install/pair, Win 8 begins to start pairing, but then shows the device as "offline" It does the same with the PC and the Laptop.
The speaker is working fine as is the Bluetooth - it connects flawlessly with my Samsung S3 - I have updated my Bluetooth drivers, uninstalled them, reinstalled them and nothing allows the pairing to complete. I have a Bluetooth headset and it has the same problem when I try to connect to my PC, but works ok with my laptop.
Just setup a N router, works OK with Laptop with Win 8, but unable to connect with Win 8 Desktop. Have entered router keys OK but nothing pops up to click to connect. Been into (Settings) then (Change PC Settings), but no Wireless tab in setting. Type in wireless, PC checks (No wireless). I have Win 8 Disk, can I load wireless driver from Disk if yes how.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend recently updated her computer from Windows 8 to 8.1 Since then, she's been unable to connect to her home wi-fi. She can only connect via cable. Unfortunately, neither of us have disks to roll her back to Windows 8.Yesterday she brought her computer to my house and it connected to my wi-fi with no problem.
I updated her adapter drivers to Windows 8.1 but that had no effect on her ability to connect to her home wi-fi network.Last night she ran "troubleshoot problems" and it says that her adapter is damaged. I highly doubt that since the computer is only a couple of months old and she could connect to my wi-fi network.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble connecting my wifi printer (Canon pixma mg3100) and my Lacie Network Space on Windows 8, while I haven't experienced any problems connecting these same devices to my Win7 computers.
The driver for the printer is, according to Canon, compatible with windows 8.When I install the software on both my windows 7 laptops, it immediately recognize the network and after 5 minutes I can print wireless without any problems.
However when I try to install the same software on my Windows 8 computer it keeps asking to first plugin a usb cable and do a lot of manual steps, like pressing several buttons on the printer, it's ridiculous! After a while the software succeeds in finding my Wifi but it keeps on saying 'unable to connect'
My Windows 8 laptop is a brand new Dell Inspiron and I didn't change any network settings.

For Other Accounts I was using IMAP. I have also checked and made sure my gmail account is IMAP enabled. I also believe I have the latest version of the Windows 8 Mail app.
I understand that Google has disabled EAS support, but I am sure Google still supports IMAP.
i am trying to recover my Data from WinXP HDD.So i connect WinXP HDD to Win8 PC via External USB Drive, there after in Win8 it is recognised my External USB Drive, but when i go inside and clik on "My Documents" then Security Warning shows like "Administratire or click on Security Tab to disable this warning etc",

I did this Test : When i connect this WinXP external HDD to win7 PC then i am able to recover my Data successfull with out any problem. Where as on Win8 PC this is not possible.
I have a samsung laptop and 4 days ago the internet access stopped working. I normally use it via wireless and I have tried it hardwired - no luck. I have restored the internet settings. The response I get when trying to connect to google is 'waiting for google.com' and it just hangs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new PC running Windows 8 and I can't seem to upgrade to Windows 8.1--There are a bunch of issues-
1. Can't connect to the Windows Store--tried everything here save the refresh, which I do NOT want to do.
2. Downloaded the 8.1 ISO and burned it to a disc--get the error message that 8.1 could not be installed--0x101-0x20017 error--tried installing with a clean boot, turned off antivirus suite, etc
3.sfc /scannow does not work.
So currently I'd like to forget about the store for the moment and continue updating from the downloaded ISO. I really do not wish to restore the computer and I have a lot of software I'd need to reinstall and this would take a long time.
I recently got a 2 slot card but seems to be 1 cm away from my wireless network adpater. When booting up, everything runs fine except I'm unable to connect to the internet. I'm wondering if the GPU is blocking the adapter. The GPU is running at 30 celcius
View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I decided to relocate my PC from one room to the other. Not a big deal I would assume. However, I was unable to connect to the internet with Firefox at the new location. I checked my signal strength to my router and it seemed fine. So I opened Task Manager and checked the WiFi performance chart, what I saw were very brief moments of connectivity, meaning I could connect to the internet for about 10 seconds, then it would stop, but the signal to the router would still appear strong. This would repeat constantly about once every minute or so. I've been trying to fix this for the past day and I could not find an answer anywhere. I've tried to restart everything, I've tried to reset some network settings, and I've tried messing with the local/ static IP address. I doubt it's a problem with the IP address though. On an additional note, whenever I run the Windows Network Troubleshooter, it tells me to restart my router (Which obviously didn't work).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new ASUS laptop a couple of days ago and have been trying to use the hotel wifi where I am staying to do the various updates and installs that new computers require. Unfortunately, while I can connect to my tethered cell phone, I cannot connect to the hotel.
I have another computer on hand that has no difficulties connecting to the hotel wifi, so I know the problem is in the new computer somewhere.
Network adapter is a Broadcom 802.11ac
Actions so far:
-Updated Windows 8.1 to current
-Attempted to reinstall drivers (uninstalling first) - Drivers are up to date and identical to the ones on manufacturer's site.
unable to connect to one particular website using Windows 8.1 with IE11 or Google Chrome.
Always get message...."This page can't bedisplayed", then when I check box to fix connection problem a dialog box displays message, "The remotedevice or resource won't accept the connection... xxx(web site) is not set up to acceptconnections on port 'The World Wide Web Service HTTP'."
There are no problems using IE11or Google Chrome in connecting to any other site(s) or exploring the internet. I do not have any 3rd party antivirus or malware protection. Have tried many different suggestion found in searching the web but no luck yet.
I have been unable to connect two windows 8 laptops (dell and asus) to my home network (and internet). At the same time I have connected 2 xp laptops and 3 kindles with no problems. My security consists of using mac addresses only and all other security is turned off.
The offending laptops will also only show the 5gz and not the 2.4gz in available networks (one laptop is brand new and the other is about 1.5 years old). I have also disabled all security on one of the laptops to see if that was the problem (it was not). When trying to connect I have two basic reactions. The first is that its taking too long (cannot connect) and the other is that there is limited connectivity. In addition to that I am sometimes told that the ip address is not right (malformed, I think).
I got the mac addresses, of the offending laptops, by the standard cmd/ipconfig /all path and choose the wireless wi ip but have also tried the other wireless as well with no better results (just making sure)
I also have an edimax extender plugged in and it works. The laptops also show fewer network connections than my asus 1000ha w/d-link dongle. My own laptop, incidentally, is clicked into the 5gz network connection directly from the router (edimax kinda redundant <g>)
I posted this in windows 8 topics as I think this is probably a windows 8 problem given the ability to connect other machines with no problem.
The router is a netgear wndr3400 and is working just fine for all but the windows 8 machine.
Is the setup having problems or something? I am using a legit Windows 8.1 Pro System Builder key I bought from Amazon.

I recently installed Windows 8.1 entreprise x64 (French), connected it to a new Microsoft Account (verified) but every time I open the Store it shows this screen.Sans titre.png... I've tried :
- wsreset.exe
- powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRootWinStoreAppxManifest.xml
- Changing Microsoft account
but nothing works. Use "Reset windows without deleting files".
Each time I try the Windows 8 upgrade assistant I get the following error: "We can't connect right now...Check your Internet connection and try again". Apparently, a number of people are having this issue
Steps to try and solve:
-Disabled AV and Firewall both software and the router firewall.
-Checked to make sure date/time was correct.
-Went to a different location so the IP address would be different.
-Tried LAN connection.
Tried on 3 different machines, both 32 bit and 64 bit. My key is a 64 bit key. At each machine, the key passes the check. But, I always have the same error. After each failed attempt, I deleted the folder:
"C:UsersuserAppDataLocalMicrosoftWebSetupPanther" where the upgrade assistant stores info about previous attempts.
I bought an Asus G75vw couple days back with windows 8. Everything was working fine except that i couldn't connect to my wireless router. It had a WEP encryption. After I entered the Network Security key, I Kept on getting "Can't connect to this network", troubleshooting didn't work either. Then I updated all drivers from Asus support website and it connected after a restart. I was quite delighted but the next day again i got the "cant connect to this network" message. So I changed my encryption to WPA2-PSK (AES) and even updated the firmware of my router. Still no luck.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am a system administrator in a large enterprise environment and we are doing a rollout of Windows 8.1. In our image capture we somehow captured a setting that is disabling users from setting up a connected account with their domain account. I am relatively sure that it is in my unattend and I can fix it for machines going forward but I really don't want to have to reimage the machines I've already deployed.
When I go to connect an account, the "connect to a Microsoft account" option is grayed out and the "some settings are managed by your administrator" message is displayed at the top. This is NOT a group policy object that is applying. The machines are in a test OU and there is absolutely no policy applied. I have searched all through local policy and even did a search through the registry for "account" (that took forever) but have been unable to find any registry key or local policy that would be causing this issue.
What setting might be causing this? I have 30+ machines already out in the environment and the user experience is going to be terrible if I have to reimage them all.
My main PC, 2 laptops, an iPhone and an iPad all connect to my home wifi network. All worked perfectly until 3 days ago.
The 2 laptops and my PC all run Windows 8.1 (all updated). 3 days ago my Toshiba Qosmio stopped being able to connect to my home network. All other devices still connect perfectly.
The Qosmio doesn't detect my wifi network. I immediately went to the network adapter's (Qualcomm Atheros) website and downloaded the latest driver. Installed it and for a brief (very brief) time it could once again detect and connect to the network. Last 3 days unable to either detect or connect.
It detects other networks fine, and has no problems connecting to any other network - except mine (doesn't even detect mine anymore). It connects to the iPhone (when used as a hotspot) without any issues.
I've uninstalled and re-installed the new driver, re-booted the wireless router (several times), re-set the router to factory settings, used Windows trouble shooter, checked & deleted the netsh profiles. Re-booted the laptop a dozen + times, disabled (& uninstalled software) for the laptop's Bluetooth.
It simply stopped working.
I've tried everything I can find on the web - without any success at all. I've had the laptop sitting only a few cm from the router.
I recently installed a fresh version of Windows 8. Everything went smooth until I tried connecting to a wireless network.It finds the wireless network, after typing in the password (btw its a WPA2-Personal), I instantly get Can't connect to this network.I tried it on another wifi network and it gives me the same problem.Another thing I noticed is that when I right click on the Wifi network I get no options.And when I do it on a wired network I only get the turn on/off sharing option.By the way when connected directly to the router connection is perfect.

I did some research and found that it was because the "Use a proxy server for LAN" keeps checking itself. Once I un-check this they work, but not long after that box automatically checks itself again.
