I reset it because i can't pin anything thing it would clear it but now all my pinned programs have gone and i can't drop them back onto taskbar It show the little arrow when i drag it there then nothing

I would like to be able to have different programs pinned to each monitor, i.e. display 1's taskbar would have calculator, chrome, and utorrent pinned to it, and then display 2's taskbar would have download folder, wow, xbmc, etc pinned to it.
I cant seem to have individual programs pinned to each display - its either have all of the same pinned programs on both taskbar, or none on the extended taskbar.
I'm noticing some programs pinned to taskbar open a separate button when run and some don't.
The programs in the circle just glow when run. The arrows show pinned programs and their separate button. Each program is only running one instance. I have taskbar properties set to always combine.
This was working until today. Now, if I right click my Word or Excel icon on the task bar, I see my pinned and recently accessed files, but if I click to open (or right click and then click open) the following happens - the menu goes greyed out for slightly less than a second, then the entire task bar disappears for a second, then the notification icons reappear, and half a second later the task bar icons reappear, but no files open. The icon itself works, to open the program, it's just the files which will not open. It only seems to Office which is affected.

I finally took the leap last week and installed a new HD and installed Windows 8 64bit on it. I've been using it and accessing my old apps on my vista drive as well. Today Windows encouraged me to upgrade to Win 8.1, which I did. Now, all the stuff I painstakingly pinned to my taskbar is gone. I have tried to repin it but it says it is already pinned. I have unpinned and repinned, but it still does not show up. In addition, the clock is missing.
I'd really like the use of that desktop/taskbar back.
I use start 8 on both my windows 8.1 desktop and my tablet. My internet speeds were okay, but I wanted more. Based on the speed tests that I ran, it appeared to me that I was on Comcast's performance starter getting download speeds of 7.37mbps and uploads of 15.65. So I called Comcast to see about an upgrade. The tech that I spoke with stated that I already had the faster that they offer. He asked me how many icons did I have near the start button, I had 5, he told me to unpin them from the taskbar and my speeds went to DL - 57.48, the upload stayed pretty much the same 15.64.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI found a way to get my list of programs on to the tool/task bar. From there I dragged one of the programs to the desktop thinking it would just create a shortcut. It didn't. It took the program off the dropdown list and put it on the desktop. I can't find a way to put it back in the drop down list of programs. I realize it's not earth shattering but it is definitely a huge annoyance to me since I want to have a 'shortcut' on both the programs drop down list and on the desktop.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to re install 8.0 using the option to re install all programs to Factory Settings. Downloads 99 programs and when it tries to do the updates it fails and then starts the reverting back to original programs. This seems never to finish.
I had done an Image backup so that I could go back to it in case of a failure.
I did not do the option to wipe the disk and then install to factory.
I also could not get my machine to use the Recovery DVD's. But did use the screens that ask you questions about recovery.
I did the recovery twice and it failed both times and never did get back to the first install.
Since there seems to be no reason for the failure in the 99 updates I am at a loss of whether I should try again and wipe the disk clean for C:/
My husband has an HP Envy desktop running Windows 8 with a new HP 23tm Touch Screen Monitor. For the last couple of weeks, sometimes when he lowers an open browser to the task bar, he can no longer bring it back up. It show the small preview and it is still open but it won't go enlarge. Right click, left click, close then open, it's just done. At first restarting the computer worked. He found that when it happens he can switch to a different browser and that will work. When he has a browser open on the desktop and tries to open another program it opens but stays frozen to the taskbar. Lower the browser and it still wont enlarge. This seems to happen when it goes into screen save mode. We ran all checks (drivers, disk, virus) and ran all updates.

I could pin them all back again, but I don't have a list of them. My desktop and my data are OK, but I need those tiles back. I've been on the phone with Microsoft, and they did a system restore from 12/26, but it didn't restore the tiles even though they were there yesterday. If I could just find a list of their names, it would be enough.

Everything seems to be working fine - no lags or freezes, but I noticed that my PC doesn't drop below 30-35% in idle, also it doesn't downclock (balanced power settings) - it used to drop to 0.8ghz in idle and be like 1-4% in idle before the update, and now it's permanent 3.2ghz and over 30% in idle. I noticed that Service Host: Local Services and Service Host: System Services in the task manager are draining over 10% CPU each, something that didn't happen before.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my computer from windows 7 to windows 8 on day 1, relatively no problems since then.
About last week I started having trouble with wifi, not sure if its HP bios updates or Windows 8 general updates that may have caused the problem. It's not that it disconnects often, its more like once every few days. Still an annoying problem when I'm working on something and I have to go into my wifi connection and disconnect then reconnect.
Its not the router connection, I've checked it at the same time on my phone and ipad and it's working fine.
I have only been using windows 8 for a few weeks and I am still getting my head round it. I have copied some documents from my old laptop onto my new one and have notice that most of the files are now all mixed up. I am trying to drag and drop them into the order in which I want them set out, for example my bank statements, utility bills etc are no longer in date order. I have tried to do it from the drop down box which says descending, ascending, date etc, but they are still all mixed up. Is there a way to drag and drop a file so that I can slot it into the place I want it to be, like you can with photos in Picasa, there doesn't seem to be a drag and drop in windows 8 (or am I missing it somewhere along the line)?
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently my mom visited a website that tricked her. She downloaded and installed some stuff she didn't need. I removed the stuff but noticed some other problems. I'm not sure if these are new problems caused by the useless stuff she installed.
Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features is not showing all installed programs. Oddly, the only listed installed programs have names that start with the letter M. 14 programs are listed. See picture. Start Menu -> All Programs -> I suspect some programs are missing. I have a Win 7 style Start menu because I am using IObit's Start Menu 8 program. Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools was empty. I fixed that by using SFC /SCANNOW.
I tried using System Restore to go back to an earlier date, but that didn't work. In the process of trying to do that I discovered that BitDefender Internet Security 2014 doesn't get along with Windows 8.1's System Restore feature. I uninstalled BitDefender and successfully went back to an earlier date but still had the same problems with missing programs. I undid the restore. I created a new Windows user account. The new account had the same issues: missing programs in the Start menu and Programs and Features menu.
On Windows 8.1, when I open Programs and Features in Control Panel, it does not show all of my installed programs. I am trying to remove some programs and they are not listed.

I recently updated my laptop from Windows 8 to 8.1. Before updating, I was able to play all of my games just fine, particularly Skyrim, on high or even max settings. After updating though, the first time I loaded a save game it took nearly between 5-10 minutes to load (compared to normal 1 at most). After that they are better, but still much slower than they used to be, and I can also barely even run Skyrim at the lowest possible graphics settings. I know that my computer has the capability to handle higher settings. Did the update change some setting in performance that I am not aware of?

I used to have 180-250 fps on "cs go" now i only have 80-150 fps.
I ve searched all tweaks on Google for 8.1 pro and applied a lot of them but still no effects.
