Taskbar Unable To Pin Or Unpin Anything At All
Feb 17, 2014So I have had this problem for a while, where I was not able to pin or unpin any shortcuts to my taskbar, but I had what I needed there anyways. I just upgraded to the SSD and had to move my Steam folder to do so, which left the shortcut in the taskbar as a default windows icon, which I was not able to click on or remove. I went to the users/appdata/roaming/windows/internet explorer/quick launch/taskbar folder and removed the shortcut, but then all the rest of my pinned items also disappeared!
I can right click and 'pin to taskbar', but nothing actually goes to it, or stays there if tried with an open program. If I do this, in the start menu when right clicking a program I pinned, it will show up at the bottem as pinned (IE; it says unpin from taskbar) but nothing is in the taskbar at all. I did try sfc /scannow, which had some files that were corrupted, but they were totally unrelated to anything about the taskbar, and have been resolved with the deployment and imaging tool cleanhealth command through an elevated command prompt. I have also tried the 'clean and reset taskbar' bat that I found on this site, which also did not work.
I thought maybe my profile was corrupt, so I created a new profile, but I also cannot pin anything to the taskbar on it either. Same goes for the hidden admin profile.
I cannot right click on the start menu peek window to get the power user menu, or use the windows key + x to bring that menu up... Don't know if that is totally related, but I figured it might be worth adding.

Oct 20, 2013I open up my Live tiles screen on my 2nd monitor. When I open an app, say facebook. All is fine. When I drag from top of screen to bottom with my mouse to close the app, it goes to desktop. Is there a way for me to go back to the Live tiles screen?
Also, is it possible to have the live tiles screen visible all times on my 2nd monitor. I use Stardocks Start8.

May 10, 2014I have just fixed the PC SETTINGS and STORE APP. As of today all of the apps have been repaired and installed via STORE but the problem still persist. Even though they have been repaired and installed. They can't open on maximized mode. I have already made this steps.
1) Chkdsk /f /r
2.) Reregister Store
3.) Scan for virus via ESET NOD32
4.) Almost all of the options on the thread Apps and Tiles Not Working or Responding: Fix in Windows 8
5.) sfc /scannow
6.) Fixed problems via Advanced System Care Ultimate 7
7.) Fixed problems via CCleaner.
the apps can't be opened.

Sep 15, 2014After installing all available updates of windows 8.1, my checkbox for "Show windows Store apps on taskbar" simply disappeared from the taskbar properties. Moreover, the on and off option from Settings -> Change PC settings -> PC and devices -> Corners and edges -> App switching also seems to be forever gone. In other words when I open an app I can't close it (Esc isn't working any more or X option) and I can't see it on the taskbar

Jun 10, 2013I usually reboot my computer once to three times a year. Every time I reboot my computer and reinstall windows 8 and then resign in with my Microsoft I.D. that I use for my computer it never remembers or syncs the apps that I have downloaded from the Microsoft Store app.
My question is, are any of the apps that I download or purchase from the Microsoft Store app remembered, stored or synced with the Microsoft Store in the cloud etc or do I have to redownload everything again and again and again every time I reinstall windows 8?

Jan 24, 2013The "Pin to Taskbar" function, though always available for programs, appears temperamental in regard to data files (txt, doc, pdf). At the moment I find that if I pin a file to Start, the "Pin to Taskbar" option will then appear if I right-click it on the Start Screen or All-Apps Screen (though it still won't appear in the Desktop environment). But I'm sure I've tried that before and it didn't work then.
At any rate, on one occasion (January 9th) I was able to pin two files to the Taskbar from the All-Apps Screen (after making them appear there by putting shortcuts to them in the Start Menu folder). And yet -- although those two files are still on my Taskbar -- that method fails to work now!
Missing Pin To Taskbar Icon On The Apps Page?
Aug 13, 2014I'm a new Win 8.1 user trying to setup a more normal looking desktop on my wife's new laptop.
In an attempt to populate the desktop toolbar with apps on the start page, I found it can't be done as explained in the tutorial. Either when I touch/hold the app icon, or right mouse click, the app is checked and the bottom application bar appears. However, on the app bar my only choices are: "Unpin from Start", "Uninstall", or "Find in Start". I'm not given the option of "Pin to taskbar". I also don't see the choices: "Open new window", "Run as admin", or "Open file location" that I see in an example under that tutorial.
I'm running this account in admin mode. The most recent Windows update was 5/2014, with no new updates available when checked today. Is there something wrong or a control panel setting I need to enable to see the other choices?
Desktop Apps Quit Working - Just Sit On Taskbar
Feb 5, 2014I was unpinning many apps from my start screen. Now when I try to run an app (such as Computer, or Control Panel) it creates an entry on the desktop taskbar, but not on the desktop.
I can't run anything on this Windows 8.0 desktop, except for IE. The only thing I can do with the taskbar icon is close the window.

Jun 29, 2014Is there a way to make it so Windows 8.1 does not show any of the Modern Apps in the taskbar?
For instance, I like to keep NotePad8, Weather and some others running, but I don't want them taking up Taskbar realestate since (as far as I'm aware at least), those Modern apps will remain open until I close them for good by moving to the upper left part of the screen.
I suspect there's probably something I could do in the registry, and if there is, maybe someone could attach a .reg file for me.
I'm also attaching a screencap of what I'm talking about.
Option To Show Metro Apps In Taskbar Missing
Jul 31, 2014Apparently there's supposed to be a checkbox that reads "Show store apps on taskbar" but that isn't there! I have a version of Windows 8.1 that doesn't have this option. I really liked this feature. This worked for me until I installed a fresh installation of Windows 8.1.

Jun 8, 2014I notice that starting when I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1, if I open a Windows App (such as the Store), the app will IMMEDIATELY minimize to the taskbar. Aug 27, 2014For more than a week now, the above situation have been occurring. I have "scoured" the web and tried a lot of "solutions" and none as at yet have normalized my situation.
I am suspecting that I might need a registry solution, since I cannot refresh my installation- I upgraded to win 8 from win 7 online.
Also, the Skype app crashes almost as soon as it finishes loading and returns to the start menu. But, there is a sign it is still running and whenever you click on it, it trips off again.
I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, ran the apps troubleshooters many times, checked that the time service is running, synchronized this and that, etc to no avail.
My Mail Live tile do not have the option to turn on/off live update but the Calendar and People tiles have it yet none is updating.
Apps / Software :: Windows 8 Not Saving Autorotate Of Images In Gallery / Viewer Apps?
Nov 5, 2012i had a bunch of images of a chest of drawers i wanted to sell. On my windows 7 PC all the previews showed the images sideways (landscape when they needed to be viewed in portrait). this is not a problem - expected behavior.
On the windows 8 PC all the images appeared portrait and in the correct orientation. images looked perfect. i understand that windows 8 reads the exif data and autorotates the images on previews and in the galleries. a neat trick.
On the windows 8 PC i put an ad on the website that i wanted to sell the drawers, and when i selected the images they previewed portrait in the file browser too. when uploaded the images all came out sideways (landscape) on the website.
this might seem like user error or a rudimentary problem at first, and trust me i have many years as a system admin under my belt, it is going to cause many problems of a similar nature for every user that touches it.
Windows 8 leads you to believe that your images are correctly oriented firstly, and then does not provide an easy way to adjust and save them even if you do know that they need to be adjusted. even in the windows photo viewer on the desktop (non metro viewer) you can rotate an image as much as you like with the buttons and it will not auto save it like it does in Win7.
In Win7 you could see that the image needs adjustment and its a good prompt for you to action, so you open it, rotate it, and it is automatically saved by the photo viewer so then whatever you do with it, it will be oriented correctly.
what i find absolutely crazy is that windows knows the image needs to be rotated, but does not save the image after it autorotates it, so it lulls you into a false sense of security.
