I had a picture password, but it hid itself, since I got it wrong to many times. I do not have a pin password, regular password, password reset disc, and I cannot enter the bios. So my question is, how do I get to my picture password, without a the choice to enter my computer, since I forgot my password. Let me give the details. I go to my picture password, and get it wrong to many times, so it then closes the window and goes to the regular password screen, but there are no sign in options. But In the password settings it says the picture password is still there, so is the picture password hidden, deleted, or do you have to be in the password settings to get it back? I have forgotten my regular password, and do not have a pin password.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated my os from 8 to 8.1 a few months back. I put a password and pin as sign in options, and have been using the pin ever since.
I started my pc today and noticed it was asking for the password not the pin. Since, I had not been using it, I forgot the password. There is no 'sign in options' for me to switch to the pin. I have tried almost every password that I might have put, but no luck. I'm sure I must have put some hint for the password, but it didn't show up even once.
There is an option to access my Microsoft account, but since I don't have any saved WiFi networks, that's not an option.
I cannot get the touch keyboard or picture password to come up consistently at logon screen. I had to go to services to make the touch-service work with desktop and logon (it was unchecked). Now, at fresh start-up or restart I can get the keyboard by touch but will not get it again if I log off and log back on. And under no conditions do I get the picture password option although I have a picture set up for it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently I updated my laptop and when it was finished updating the keyboard no longer worked. Before the update it worked fine and I had no problems. I restarted it several times and restored it but still nothing. Now I am stuck using the on screen keyboard which is difficult. I also went to try and fix it using device manager but it wasn't listed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was trying to adjust my recording volume settings and realised that I couldn't access them at all. I can access volume mixer, recording devices and playback devices but as soon as I click properties I get an error "windows shell common dll has stopped working" checking for solutions. No solutions are found.
In the event log I have this:

I have updated the sound drivers and this does not solve the issue.
I have run sfc /scannow and get this error: Windows Resources Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. I checked the CBS.log and mmsys.cpl is in the log:

There are also lots of other files with errors. I think this was caused by my faulty SSD and when I re-imaged back to my new drive, these errors are still present.
Do I need to re-install windows or can I repair install without losing my profile and data? I'd rather repair than re-install.
Just the other day i was having problems with the Temporary profile problem, but by the end of the day i finally fixed it. But i also deleted my user account so i found this program that will restore deleted data, it was in trial mode so i only allowed me to download 1 Gb so i got what I thought was the most important like App data, contacts, desktop, documents, KAG, and all of the little files at the end of the screen.
I put all of the things in my account once the problem was fixed. Then every time i open my windows explorer and i try to open anything it says that windows explorer has crashed and then it restarts.
I purchased a new laptop with Windows 8 about a month ago. SyncUP was included in the software. When I open any of my pictures I receive the message, "SyncUp has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I want to use this program, What do I do now?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Classic Shell on my Windows 8.1 laptop and i kinda didn't like it too much so i uninstalled it. But it hasn't uninstalled completely, when i try running setup again, and choosing the 'remove' option it doesn't uninstall! Anyways, that isn't really the problem, the thing is, when i press 'ctrl alt del', it doesn't go to task manager, i tried right clicking on the start icon and clicking on task manager but that didn't work either, so i had to go to start menu and search for task manager and then finally it came up.
I'm wondering if there is any correlation between classic shell and 'ctrl al del' not working, any way of getting it to work again.
I'm not sure if it's related to the fact that I just installed Windows Media Center but whenever I try to open a Library folder like Video or Music I get this error.
If I manually go to C:Users[username]Videos it opens the folder just fine.
I have been happily using Windows 8, until today. Out of nowhere I cannot install/update anything (I always get "windows installer has stopped working error", I cannot run any metro apps (they simply crash), and windows itself seems unstable. Is there any other solution, other than formatting harddrive and re-installing everything?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot Win 7, Win 8 setup. Suddenly the audio has stopped working on Win 8. (Works fine on Win 7) I checked for driver updates, even "installed" an old driver which didn't actually install. The volume control shows its trying to work, puff of green comes and goes at the bottom of the slider.
However I've tried "cleaning" for other concerns and that made a real mess of the setups for several programs. I suppose I could do a refresh but that's equivalent to a re-install..
I have used the MPUI video viewer for several years on Windows 7 and Windows 8.0 without any problem.Last week I installed Windows 8.1 on my Lenovo laptop, and since that time, MPUI does not work. So I figured that maybe MPUI is no longer compatible with Windows 8.1, so I'll download a different media player from the Store.
I downloaded and tried PressPlayer, Media_Player and Quick Media Player, none of which will play the videos that I downloaded from YouTube.
The media players just say that this video cannot be played. MPUI displays the initial picture from the video, but doesn't proceed like it did previously.why my videos stopped working after I installed Windows 8.1.?
For some reason I can see my Outlook email but when I try to send any emails they automatically get sent to the draft folder and sit there. I also have a Gmail account set up but same problem.
The Windows 8 mail app that has these problems.
Very annoying BSOD problem, it tends to happen when surfing the internet and for some reason my internet keeps now coming up with that irritating internet has stopped working error every couple of minutes, I have tried to refresh or reset windows 8 but I cannot because I do not have a recovery partition or USB, I upgraded my version of windows digitally so I am looking to see if there are any other solutions first. I have attached the dmp file.

Everything is up to date...connecting to LAN works fine.
I recently upgraded my new XPS 13 (L321X) to windows 8. Webcam central stopped working, It is getting detected in device manager. I tried installing the drivers again from dell site without any result. Whenever I open webcam it says close the other streaming video application to start video though I don't see any other video application going on in my system.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 8 laptop, and I was on internet explorer this morning when I was prompted to shut it (this is because of what I was doing, however I know what I was doing was safe as it was checked by Norton and done by may other people, not just me). However, one it shut error messages kept popping up saying internet explorer has stopped working, and the were coming up 30 at a time. As of now, I can click on internet explorer just fine from the app-like view, however what I want to do needs the desktop version, which crashes within seconds of me opening it. The error messages will then start popping up, and the internet is just unusable in desktop mode.

For some reason the Windows 7 style desktop snap has stopped working, I can still snap a metro app to the side of my monitor but not an ordinary program like note pad. I used to either drag the window to the side of the screen or press Windows Key and an arrow to snap it to the left or the right.

I used the apps.diagcab solution but no way to go, it runs if i run Fiddler2. How to set a default status without loosing anything?
About two weeks ago I began to notice strange behavior on my PC which made me think it may be a virus. Some examples:
1. When I'm online a message window frequently appears stating "internet explorer has stopped working"
2. Some websites do not display adverts on the page. I've attached a screenshot from youtube to illustrate what I'm referring to.
3. Some webpages will not load. I keep seeing "webpage under maintenance at this time". This is typical for websites at certain times but to see it every time I try to access is suspicious.
4. I use Hotmail and typically the first time I start it up in the day I notice that the first email I open causes the entire page to go blank as if it erases everything on it, it then reopens with all of my emails listed and finally the email I began to read will reopen. This only happens after I boot my system and open the first email. This will not happen on any other computer.
5. I seem to be having issues installing certain programs. They won't install citing various reasons such as outdated files, incompatible etc. These were all working flawlessly prior to reformatting my system.
6. I'm unable to post messages even though I'm logged in. When I type a message I see the timer cycling but it never posts my messages, it's as if it's stuck in a loop or frozen.
Having felt that a system reformat was in order I did just that not more than a week ago. Everything was reinstalled and updated. Once all the Windows 8 files were installed I began to notice the exact same problems surfacing immediately. I'm currently using Win 8 with IE 10. 16 GB RAM, 64 bit OS. The computer itself is an HP and a year old.
