Windows 8 Is Not Booting After Automatic Windows Update?
May 21, 2013
Windows 8 is not booting after automatic windows update when i used internet.
It just shows a blank sreen and power lights blinks. I use ubuntu 12.10 alongside win 8 and i am able to boot it and its working well but Windows 8 is not starting.
I have an HP laptop that came with Windows 8 installed. One of the automatic updates ran and changed pathways to my files. If I click on Libraries, my documents, music, and pics that were there before the upgrade are not there now. I have to click c:/users/myusername/ then whichever folder I'm looking for. Is there a way to get that back so all my files go to one set of library folders instead of having a new set?
The update almost crashed the whole laptop. Also corrupted my save points and had to do a new restore point once the system was finally brought back up. I'm tracking down how to fix my app store tile now. The update also deleted all my tiles I had on my start screen.
Ive recently found out that im not admin of my own computer, i cant even access some of my very own files and cant change important settings such as windows automatic update and download some files, ive tried everything for example hidden admin and much more, i also cant even PRESS A BUTTON TO MAKE A NEW USER BECAUSE YOU NEED ADMIN RIGHTS FOR THAT!! this is so tiring and to make matters worse im running windows 8 and when i press"settings", "change pc settings" nothing happens, i believe this is due to me being nothing of high authority to my own computer. P.S Dont suggest anything like "Enable UAC" or create another user because when i click on it nothing happens.
I have a Lenovo Z585 and it seems to be stuck in the early stage of boot up. When powered up the Cap sensor buttons flash every second and the caps lock indicator flashes every other second. The problems seemed to occur after windows 8.1 automatic update. I have tried battery and power lead out, pressing power power on for 30 sec but it did not work.
why can't I install and run 8.1?!?!? It install but I run into an error when the computer tries to boot. I have this problem with my desktop and my laptop. Windows won't stop asking me to install it as well! So annoying!
Now,... automatic updates were installed as I shutdown. Now I have to audio! Can't figure out why. I don't really even have time to be figuring this out! I went into sound hardware whatever in the control panel. I hit the test button and I do hear the test tones. But when I go to listen to anything else I get nothing. This is the second time I am having to deal with this. The first time I had to actually yank the battery. After installing the battery again and starting the computer I got sound. Why? I dont know. Even the volume controls are acting weird. If I hit the volume up on the keyboard a few times and then hit the volume down,... on screen it will show the volume going up by 2 before going down. Also,... if I go to setting via the menu bar by the clock and see the volume icon with the value, if I hot the volume up and down and mute, the value wont change. Not until I close the menu bar and reopen it.
Although many folks don't like to let Windows do automatic updates, I have done that for quite some time. For some reason it has stopped doing it and I haven't even seen a request to update.
It says that I must be the administrator to make the change and I am the administrator.
I am using Win 8 - 64 bit and the laptop is a HP Envy m6.
My Windows 8 desktop PC was working fine up until yesterday when it wouldn't recognize my external dvd drive for some reason. I tried some troubleshooting steps such as deleting the upper and lower filters in the registry editor and everything was fine until I rebooted my PC.
Upon rebooting, I noticed an extremely long boot time (about 10-15 mins) which I found highly unusual but the computer worked fine until I rebooted it a 2nd time. The 2nd time after rebooting it, it was stuck at the HP loading screen so I left it on overnight to see if it would take longer to boot but to my surprise, it was still stuck at the loading screen when I woke up this morning!
Here are some specs:
OS: Pre-installed Windows 8 Model: Hp Pavillion p7-1459
All drivers should be up to date because I frequently run windows update.
Yesterday night I upgraded my PC to windows 8 with an old windows 8 installation media. Everything was going fine and i also restarted it yesterday but today morning when I powered my PC it went through the Dell Splash screen but after that the screen freezes with a black screen and after 1-2 minutes It restart and again the same thing happened.
I upgraded to windows 8.1 when it was available and the first time I turned off my computer after upgrading, it all started and now I'm stuck in this automatic repair loop. To top it all off my mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3... has now become my main issue.
I have a bootable flash drive loaded with windows 8.1 and a bootable DVD loaded with windows 8.1 but my mobo supports only HDD and CD-rom...
I have no clue what to do, as I can't use a repair disc to repair my computer and I CANNOT Reset my PC, I have way to many files that I need on my HDD.
I was using Windows 8. My internet is "Radio" using a Bullet which is connected to my PC. So, I create a new Broadband connection (PPPOE) unde Windows. After creating it, I put the "service" and manually connected to the internet. But after restarting, and loggong into my account it shows me a windows where I had to put login and password, and I also marked "automatic connection when login, and worked fine.
After installing Windows 8.1 Preview it seems that it was removed. Because after creating a new connection and restarting my computer, there isn't any window anymore to create my automatic connection. I can connect only manually clicking on the Icon on tray.
I thought that this option of windows 8 would be back on final release, but it wasn't. How can I can configure my computer to connect automatically after login to my account, because I don't like to connect all the times manually.
my computer has suddenly starting acting up:- I cannot enter my password due to no response via the keyboard I am using a MS Comfort 500 keyboard & mouse but this isn't the main problem as if I can open up the computer (and I can now and then) the cursor is very jerky and unresponsive, but now things have got a whole lot worse the computer is starting up in repair mode (didn't know this existed) but cannot repair itself so gives me the options of refreshing or resetting, now resetting seems a bit drastic as although I have my files on external discs and in the cloud I have never done a restore point and it seems as though a disc my have failed but as I cannot get into the computer I have no way of doing any other checks it could have been a virus that caused the problem, wish I had created restore point, if I do a reset I will loose all the programs on the c drive.
I have installed the full windows 8.1 on computer i restart my PC and it was all going normally until it reached the "getting windows ready" screen for half an hour and nothing happened.
It's not just your everyday slowness. I accidentally dropped my computer, not too violently or anything, and now it's having extreme lag.
Even before you boot, it takes about 3 minutes just to wait for the safemode options screen after hitting F8. So far, it's taken 20 to actually load the files and start safemode.
The only thing I can think would be causing this is the RAM cards were damaged? Or it might also be a softwear issue - I was running a high memory video game when it fell and shut off.
I have a Samsung 64 bit Notebook with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Every time I boot win 8 says my password is incorrect and I have to manually type it in order to continue booting. I Am using Classic Shell. I dont want my laptop to ask for a password. With Classic Shell installed I got rid of charms bar and now I don't know how to make my laptop stop asking for a password.
I just installed Windows 8.1 Pro on a new SSD(did the install with the other drives disconnected). I have another one with Windows 8 Pro installed on it and a HDD for my files.
When I boot, Windows 8.1 is loaded automatically and afterwards, I can see the partitions in disk management for each drive.
Is there a way to have a choice of which OS to load at startup?
It's only been two days since I got windows 8 Pro on my alienware. Recently I force shut down because it was not shutting down. And when I open it today it gives an error message saying that Automatic repair could not fix the problem.
The error code is: "D:WINDOWSSystem32LogfilesSrtSrtTrail.txt
I have tried everything. I have used command prompt and the following commands have also been tried.
Nothing has worked so far. I have tried everything except a fresh installation of windows. I have already taken a backup previously. I am a little apprehensive about formatting again.
I recently put this computer together as a cheap media machine. Everything worked. It connected via onboard NIC to the internet, it had sound. No problems.
Then I upgraded by adding another stick of RAM. Same module 4gb. and all hell breaks loose.
I lost lost and internet. Media sound service couldn't start. Said something along the lines that found new hardward. And it wasn't communicating with my NIC card anymore.. I tried updated the drivers. No joy.
I contacted Biostar and asked for an issue. They recommend me to update drives and then reset bios setting to factory defaults. I tried that. No joy.
I then RMA's the vendor and got another mobo. Installed it and it had the same issue. No sound no internet.
Last nite I decided maybe I should just reinstall windows, but now my computer freezes on the bios screen.
Was Wondering because When I used to do it on windows 7 I would Choose Install along side windows but it seems after installing windows 8 Grub Boot Loader is getting bypassed.
I Have a CPU it was Windows 7 Home Premium installed , i Got windows 8 downloaded from Microsoft . I installed it without a CD . I Extracted the .iso file and Just Click Setup.exe , it was really slow so i left it at my house , when i ome Home it enters windows 8 Home Screen . I am really confused , i thinks its gonna ask me Custom or Upgrade but when I'm home it just ask me what color do you want for your theme . I Inserted the windows 7 CD and Installed on drive B: ( B is a hard disk i made with diskmngmnt.exe ) and it boots to windows 7 , i want to shut down my CPU . I turned it back On ( Restart ) and it just shows me a black screen .
Computer: Dell Inspiron 530 Operating System: Windows Vista home prem. upgraded to Windows 8 home Pro. 32 bit. BIOS Rev. 1.0.15 Hard drives: (# 1) Samsung 500 Gig with 2 partitions. (# 2) WD 500 Gig with 2 partitions. Clone of #1 Ram: 3 Gig
Problem: On start up with either drive, the system goes to a blue screen with a clock (different time zone) on pushing Ctrl + Alt + Delete a log in prompt comes on. After logging in a window with the circling dots and Preparing Windows comes on That stays on for about 4 minutes and then a black screen comes on. Pushing the power button will cause Shutting Down to appear breifly and then the machine shuts down. I have a backup of Drive #1 on an external drive.
I've got Windows 8 64 bit and I'm running it on a Gigabyte U2242 ultrabook on the max resolution 1 Yesterday, after booting up, I saw that the desktop is black, the icons are black/ invisible too, I can, however, see the taskbar.
On the other hand, the tile menu works just as intended.
The laptop has two video cards: Intel HD 4000 and a Geforce 650M, I've uninstalled the drivers for both under safe mode and reinstalled the latest ones.
I've read somewhere on the nvidia forums that the geforce driver can't be removed because v.304 comes with Windows 8. Is this true?
Toshiba laptop. My son tells me ever since he went on you tube, he has pictures coming up Like wallpaper, with a field to type in where he wants to go, like the address bar in IE.
This worked for a while, but now the computer will boot it shows - welcome Glenn and the circle is spinning, but it will not display the start page. It stays black.
BTW he is running win 8. After about 5 minutes I am able to hit alt-Ctrl- Del and I managed to bring up task manager.I found that the CPU usage is at 98%. I shutdown the windows defender module, and it dropped to 48%. After exiting task manager it still does not display the desktop.
After several tries it is now a little faster and I can get to task manager without a long wait, and the cpu usage is down to 10-20 % , but still no start page.
After the computer sits for a while it goes into standby, I know that because after I move the mouse, I will see the space needle picture. After I click on the picture, it goes back to black.
Since I cannot get to the desk top, I cannot run anything, so I don't know how to proceed.
All of a sudden, after installing some software updates, Ubuntu tells me to restart. I restart, load Ubuntu perfectly, then decide I want to use Windows to play a game. Restart, select Windows partition in Grub. The Toshiba logo comes up, as usual, but it doesn't boot into Windows. The scrolling wheel just keeps turning. I go to BIOS, and try enabling secure boot, to see if I can boot Windows like that. Same problem. Go to BIOS a second time, change the boot type to CSM instead of UEFI, to see if that will work. It comes up as a black screen "Failed to load media". I switch it back to UEFI and disable Secure Boot. Now all of a sudden, Grub doesn't come up, it just goes straight to loading Windows, but same problem. I ran Boot Repair from a live USB, didn't work.
I am able to use Ubuntu now, but only by pressing F12 and selecting it. Windows still won't boot. I made a recovery USB, and I tried to refresh my pc but it said drive was locked. I don't know what to do.
