So I took the tutorial Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup .
And after doing the steps, I'm having the setting set up for using automatic log on.
After re-log to windows it still asks me for a password...
So how i make it work to automatic log in without asking the password?
Suddenly when I restart Windows (8) it goes to the generic desktop and if I click on esc it then goes to my user name and I have to click on it to go to my desktop. It used to go to my user name and log in automatically (without me having to click on it) until a few days ago.how I can fix this and what could have caused it?

However, I turned off the computer without using a proper shutdown and somehow the password has been changed because the computer will not accept the password I have used from the very beginning.
Unfortunately, although I live in Vancouver BC most of the time, I am currently in Basel, Switzerland until the end of May and I believe any record of my Windows 25 character code is in Vancouver; thus, I doubt I'll be able to restore Windows until I get back there.
I've been reading your forums and I gather that getting into safe mode in the Acer in Windows 8 is not easy. I've tried doing it the way the documentation says to no avail. I am able to get to system settings but do not find any way to bypass the startup password code.
With all the fiddling around I have done, now the cursor arrow doesn't show and I have to use <Tab> to move around the screen to restart. I restart with the <Shift> key down and that gets me into a mode where I can troubleshoot.
Tried to follow instructions I was led to on YouTube to delete old email showing where I sign in with Windows 8.1 Pro Update.
Thought I'd cracked it as the old email has now disappeared from everywhere else I used it to sign in.
Signed back into Windows and.................... there it was again.
I was asked did I want to delete signing in with Windows and sign in locally. Now I'm not smart, but I didn't like the sound of that so cancelled that option.
Lately, when I start my laptop I'm logged in as "Other User" and I don't know why. It started doing this about two weeks ago. I can use the computer just fine logged in as "other user", but it's just bothersome. What caused this and more importantly, how to make it so I'm logged in under the primary user? And fwiw, no one else uses this computer and I didn't even know there was an "other user" setup.

On my first unit, I have a phantom "Other User" user show up at login, that is not a current user that shows up in the User Administration. It is always the default user the system tries to log in to at startup, but since it isn't a real account, it can't be logged in.
How do I delete it, when it doesn't show up as a valid user to be managed? I also have a single local user (no Password) and an Administrator account (well protected), and after the "Other Login" user login fails, ? can go back to all user screen and select any other login and they work properly. .

I went to NETPLWIZ as suggested elsewhere (Log On User Account Automatically at Windows 8 Startup)
However, there is no box to uncheck that says "Users must enter username and password to use this computer." (see attachment)
What am I missing? I have also checked the Password Requirement on Wakeup in the Power settings and that shows "No" and the "Ctrl-Alt-Del" option is also not in place.
I have my Windows 8.1 PC's password policy set so that a password is not required when waking from sleep/shutdown. I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.

I was able to set up my Admin account and his "standard" account, and put a time curfew and limits on his account, but when I logged in as him, I saw that he would be able to create another account which would pretty much defeat the whole time limit thing! Is there a way to prevent all but admin accounts to be able to create more accounts?? I'm pretty technically savvy but this new Windows 8 is not as easy to navigate as the previous versions!! (I wouldn't mind a "classic view" either, if that exists!)

I have a bootable flash drive loaded with windows 8.1 and a bootable DVD loaded with windows 8.1 but my mobo supports only HDD and CD-rom...
I have no clue what to do, as I can't use a repair disc to repair my computer and I CANNOT Reset my PC, I have way to many files that I need on my HDD.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using Windows 8. My internet is "Radio" using a Bullet which is connected to my PC. So, I create a new Broadband connection (PPPOE) unde Windows. After creating it, I put the "service" and manually connected to the internet. But after restarting, and loggong into my account it shows me a windows where I had to put login and password, and I also marked "automatic connection when login, and worked fine.
After installing Windows 8.1 Preview it seems that it was removed. Because after creating a new connection and restarting my computer, there isn't any window anymore to create my automatic connection. I can connect only manually clicking on the Icon on tray.
I thought that this option of windows 8 would be back on final release, but it wasn't. How can I can configure my computer to connect automatically after login to my account, because I don't like to connect all the times manually.
It's only been two days since I got windows 8 Pro on my alienware. Recently I force shut down because it was not shutting down. And when I open it today it gives an error message saying that Automatic repair could not fix the problem.

Account: Local Account (No sign in)
Can this be automated, like connecting new computers to a network and reading from one Answer File.
I have an HP laptop that came with Windows 8 installed. One of the automatic updates ran and changed pathways to my files. If I click on Libraries, my documents, music, and pics that were there before the upgrade are not there now. I have to click c:/users/myusername/ then whichever folder I'm looking for. Is there a way to get that back so all my files go to one set of library folders instead of having a new set?
The update almost crashed the whole laptop. Also corrupted my save points and had to do a new restore point once the system was finally brought back up. I'm tracking down how to fix my app store tile now. The update also deleted all my tiles I had on my start screen.

When attempting to update the graphics drivers in Windows 8 last week, something went wrong and the system crashed. Now when I attempt to boot into Windows 8, it goes into the Attempting Automated Repairs loop which never finishes, even when left running for several hours. I attempted to boot off of the Windows 8 installation CD and do a Refresh but it just errors out saying Windows could not be refreshed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to windows 8/8.1 x64 i have twice had this situation when during boot up windows tries automatic repair & fails , every time i restart same repair fail happens , its stuck in this cycle , neither "Refresh" or "Reset" option works , . I have to do a fresh format & install , loose all my files stored in the OS partition , I even tried to recover the files using linux boot cd but the folders were inaccessible/corrupted .
I tried every solution i could find to make it boot including Unable to refresh or reset PC after Automatic Repair fails in Windows 8 but nothing worked .

I have just bought a new laptop which came with Windows 8 preinstalled. I have since updated to 8.1 Pro with Media Center and so far, touch wood, things appear to be running well.
Having used Windows 7 for ages, I found the change to 8 somewhat difficult but I am slowly figuring it out. There will undoubtedly be things I cannot sort for myself but straight off the bat I have one question:
Where can I change a setting to stop in 8.1 from automatically going on line and downloading stuff I don't want? I do not want to prevent automatic downloading of Windows Updates etc, but I have just turned on and been greeted with a message telling me that Windows has downloaded 9 new apps - Alarms, Calculator, Food & Drink, Health & Fitness, Tips, Reading List, Scan, Sound Recorder, Bing Desktop, and MS Silverlight (yes, I know, this is 10!)
I particularly want to keep this new Laptop free of unnecessary software which I will never use, basically all I want is Word, Excel, email capability, the ability to view TV (when away from home, hence the upgrade to 'Pro with Media Center') but little else. I will soon be abandoning my home cable internet connection and will be relying on a much reduced plan and so will not want the limited data used up because the O/S automatically loads the computer with rubbish.

Safe Mode didnt come up, and it stays on Automatic Repair loop -> Diagnostics every restart/boot, and c'ant get into windows.

I have to install windows 8.1 on my work laptop and I need to have someone from my work add a user to our domain. What would happen if I installed windows 8 and all the programs that I use before the user was added to the domain. Will this user have access to all the programs that were installed or would I potentially need to perform a hack or re-install the programs on that account?

What I would like to do is have both users have the same desktop files and start menu between the two. For example the first one I created has a bunch of folders I put on the desktop recovered from my old computer, but when I log on with the other account they are not there. I also installed ms office on my computer with the first user- but it is not available to the other one.
Is there a way to link these 2 so I can still have different logins but access the same files?
Acer Aspire V5 is the PC I am using. I turn it on, the boot fails and the pc restarts. Then begins an automatic repair, which crashes and the PC turns off. It is a loop I cannot get out of. I don't have a Windows 8 Disc or anything like that.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo G580 laptop 2gb RAM, i5, and 500gb HDD. It had windows 8 RTM 32 bit installed on its C drive. It had come with DOS preinstalled so I had to do a fresh install of windows 8 via bootable usb. It worked well for few months but now it refuses to boot and goes into "automatic recovery mode" and then it says that your pc needs to be repaired with a recovery disc.
I did not made any recovery disc when it was working so I tried to do a fresh install of win 8 and then win 7 via bootable usb, but both have failed. The screen freezes after blue logo of windows appears and then it restarts saying it has encountered an error and needs to be restarted.
I have tried booting it in safe mode along with all other options on start-up menu but it doesn't work.
I have a Lenovo Z585 and it seems to be stuck in the early stage of boot up. When powered up the Cap sensor buttons flash every second and the caps lock indicator flashes every other second. The problems seemed to occur after windows 8.1 automatic update. I have tried battery and power lead out, pressing power power on for 30 sec but it did not work.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to correct user accounts in windows 8 Pro on new HP Pavilion g7 2246nr, I set notebook up using Microsoft account then called Microsoft when problems started, and we decided to switched to a local account. They created a new user account, then copied all my files to it. But I ended up with i administrator account that could not be deleted. That worked but my files are broken up between 3 other user accounts. I spoke with Microsoft to try and consolidate the accounts and they used a command line in cmd, run as an administrator, but it did not finish, or I may have cut it off by accident.
I am still working with the system but it has problems. I have reloaded the software 3 times so for. How to correct the problem without reloading all the software again? Also after setting up sharepoint in Office Pro Plus, it created another administrator account in UAC. I did not think this was going to happen? Right now in the UAC I have two administrator accounts with the sane name, In c:users there 5 with the temp file they created. What that command line they attempted to use was to correct and consolidate the user accounts.
How to correct the problem without reloading all the software again.
This bug has been present in 8 and it is still there in 8.1. If the computer has non-interactive user accounts (i.e. accounts listed under "Deny logon locally" in Local Security Policy), these accounts are visible in the "Sign Out/Lock" menu of every regular interactive user on that machine ("regular" in this case means a member of "Users" group, not "Administrators" group).
Interactive accounts with administrative privileges do not suffer from this problem: their "Sign Out/Lock" menu only lists interactive users, as it should be.
So, is there any workaround for this issue? Or is there an alternative way to create non-interactive accounts (for network access) so that they will not appear in "Sign Out/Lock" menu of regular users?
Any way to disable SuperFetch permanently it re-enables almost every day not sure if something else like tune up enables it i know its used to collect information about started programs so the next time they can start faster but I don't really see any difference with or without it so I don't really like it and it actually makes my disk usage go to 100%.
