Windows 8 Kernel Power Error
Jan 20, 2013
I installed clean Windows 8. I checked the event viewer to see if everything is OK. But it has 4 critical error and they were all Kernel Power Error. I noticed these Kernel Power Errors are caused by when I restart my PC. Example is when I installed Photoshop, I restarted and I checked the Event Viewer Log. There was an event Kernel error created.
but here is where it gets complicated. When I boot to desktop after restarting my PC, it doesn't say my computer suffered from a serious error. I have to check it manually by going to the Event Viewer Logs. If I don't check the Event Viewer Log, I won't know.
There has also been times where my PC won't boot to Windows 8. I goes past BIOS and Windows boot screen, but it hangs there. It simply crashes.
I don't overclock my PC. My PC temps are always low old IDLE and always within the max temp under full load.I have installed and updated ALL drivers and BIOS. I thought this might be driver issue but I realized this happened when I installed it clean and booted up for the first time.
This does not happen in Windows 7. Only in Windows 8.
I ran Prime95 for 12 hours -- no error
I ran Intel Burn Test for 9 hours -- no error
I ran Memtest for 12 hours -- no error
My PC specs:
CPU: AMD FX 8350 4GHZ
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6870
RAM: 8GB Corsair Dual Channel
Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
PSU: XFX 450W

Lately just after I updated my Windows 8.1 all of the sudden my PC started shutting down for no reason and I had to restart it. It often occurs during the morning hours, but it also occurs during the evening hours, too. It's a Kernel Power error with Event ID 41, Version 3, Level 1, Task 63.
Here's the zip file and text document attachments I made which contains more information about what's going on with my PC.

I got my new ASUS laptop on Mother's Day this year, and the first event happened a week later. I've had this same event happen 6 times since then as shown by the attached image.
I'm comfortable with computers but am not an IT person so I'm not comfortable performing tasks within my system unless I know what the heck I'm doing or why.
W7 forum said overclocking (it's not), heat (this last time it had been in sleep mode while I was out and within moments of waking it up it crashed), sudden loss of power (it's plugged in AND has 100% battery left) and so on. In other words, it doesn't appear to be related to any of those things. It just randomly happens.
1) why this keeps happening and
2) how to fix it?
I've been very disappointed in my new laptop since getting it; I've NEVER had such issues with a new computer before..and I thoroughly dislike Windows 8 and I doubt I'm alone in that view.

Recently I noticed a game that I had been playing had started to stutter and slowdown more than usual, the performance issues were to be expected as the games engine is notorious for being poorly optimized, however these occurrences were fairly rare in comparison to the issues i'm experiencing now.
It seems for the last two days the performance of said game had been dismal, where i'd get a mostly consistent frame-rate before, I now only have a stutter riddled mess.
Looking through the Event Log I noticed a entry shown as; Kernel-Processor-Power Event ID 37, the text below it shows this; 'The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 7 seconds since the last report' the entry had been generated at '7:56pm' of today, which I found odd, as I believe that's when I started my game.
This had not been the only instance it seems, there were some entries from a few weeks back that show the same thing, however they were few and far in between. It seem I have 3 entries, all from today (12:00am, 3:56pm, 7:56pm) all warnings.

I have had three of these shutdowns randomly occur over the last 2 days. I have no warning on when they will occur.
The computer is only 5 weeks old, so i wouldn't except an overheat issue personally. I can think of no new software i have installed since this has started. So far, it has always happened while playing a game (Diablo 3) but that is likely just coincidental, as that is what i do most on this computer.

About 2 months back i had a new pc build. Since then, either 2 things would happen. My computer screen will complete freeze, with a buzzing sound and i would have to manually restart or i would get a BDOS with a buzzing sound and the computer auto restarts. These crashes are completely random, sometimes it would happen couple times a day, sometimes i can go a week without one. i also notice about almost all of these happens when im gaming. and everytime i look at the event log, its always the same Kernel-Power 41.
This is the computer spec

RAM: G.SKILL Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200)

I recently built a new PC and I'm having trouble figuring out if the cause of the crash is the mobo, the ram, or the SSD, or the pagefile. I ran memtest and one of the sticks of ram came back with errors so I've taken that out but I don't know if it was the stick or the port the stick was in, I plan on checking that soon.
I don't know how to check to see if the SSD is faulty.
When the crash occurs the audio cuts out and all of the USB devices turn off, Windows 8 then says an audio device was unplugged. Then it cuts to the BSoD. Windows doesn't create a memory dump, I followed the guide in the sticky.
Motherboard: Sabertooth 990fx
CPU: AMD FX-8350
GPU: GTX 770
RAM: G-Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro
All my drivers are up to date.

Each time, there's a BSOD with saying that there was a Kernel Inpage Data Error which I have no clue what it is about. It's been happening for the past several weeks and just very recently, it started occurring very often, like every hour.
Oh, and yeah, this is happening on a laptop that I bought this year so it's new.

So, it all started after i had my nvidia drivers error "Nvidia windows kernel mode driver error". After this error windows started being really annoying and laggy. Usually it lags most when i turn on computer, it takes a lot of time to load files, and strange thing happens after i turn it on. Just a few seconds after windows loads pictograms on dekstop windows strangly loads them again... I checked my disk usage, it goes to 100% sometimes and when its at 100% windows getting laggy. Usually reinstalling windows works, but I cant reinstall it atm, I got a lot of important stuff in it (and I made one disk). I am using windows 8.

i recently got a new laptop. installed the OS, installed the drivers, everything is working fine except:
the first time i turn the laptop on, it gives me the error "kernel_data_inpage_error", then it either turns itself off(at which point it works normally when i turn it back on) or restarts itself(which also makes it work normally)
here is a video of it happening:

"The maximum file size for session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" has been reached. As a result, events might be lost (not logged) to file "C:Windowssystem32WDILogFilesBootCKCL.etl". The maximum files size is currently set to 104857600 bytes."
"Session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" stopped due to the following error: 0xC0000188"
These two messages went away for awhile and now the're are back. How to make them go away? I don't think I did anything with tracing to make this happen?! I know I should make a pledge to never look at the Event Log but...every once in awhile I uncover something that can be fixed. I have Googled the messages but don't seem to be able to find any real solution. I tried deleting the .etl file but it fills up on the next boot.

'Your pc encountered a problem' and 'kernel security' is mentioned but no error number. After rebooting itself it asks me to wend problem report to Mickeysoft which I did. It does not occur very often but has approx. 3-4 times now. I was in Facebook at the time trying to reply to a question.

I have started having BSODs since last week. They seemingly seem to occur at random after using my computer around an hour. My computer is 2 years old, and I have never had problems with it, nor have I made any changes in the last weeks.
I have run chkdsk on both my drives, and they do not have any problems. I have also run a memorycheck (3 runs) and everything seems to be fine there as well.
After the first BSOD last week, my computer did not want to start up anymore, since for some reason my SSD was not the designated boot drive anymore. After changing this back it starts though, only to crash after a while again.
I have used the SF Debug tools, since my computer for some reason does not create dumpfiles in the designated folder.

I've been working on my mothers laptop and she has a HP Pavilion G6-1C51NR. She told me her laptop was a bit slow, so I decide to upgrade her to Win 8.1 from Win 7. I did a fresh install of Win 8 then updated to Win 8.1, now here is the weird part. Every time I boot the Laptop I get the Kernal Data Inpage Error once, then it restarts itself and it normally boots into the OS and I am able to use the laptop fine. This never happened when she had Win 7 on her laptop, and she had no viruses either. It started to happen ever since I installed Win 8 to her laptop, it happened on Win 8 and on 8.1. I have even re-installed the OS multiple times to see if it fixes it, but nope still has the issue.

Today, I started up my PC and after browsing on it for an hour I noticed a LiveKernelEvent hardware error in the Performance and Reliability graph. Looking at the time of the error, it appears that it occurred seconds after booting up my PC. The weird thing is that the PC didn't act strange or freeze up. Also, googling this error shows that it's mainly associated with BSOD's while my PC didn't give any.
I couldn't find any errors about it in the logs but there is only an information log about it (Dutch):
Foutbucket , type 0
Naam van gebeurtenis: LiveKernelEvent (name of event)
Antwoord: Niet beschikbaar
Id van CAB-bestand: 0
[Code] ....
Note that at Parameter 1 a code named "ab" is given which I couldn't find at all on the internet (usually P1 codes are numbers). Also, I could only find 2 files that were given by the error log (see attachment). There are no minidumps in C:/windows while it is enabled in the options to register any.
What the cause of this error by looking the files. I just recently formatted my PC and installed all latest updates.
Specs:
Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit with Media Centre
i5-3570K (stock)
GTX 660Ti

So for the past 8 days I've been getting BSOD's (Kernel Data Inpage Error) randomly about once a day, without any dumps or logs being created, despite the settings being right and WERS service running.
Two weeks ago my 2 year old SSD (Corsair Force GT) died. Bios would freeze at around 70% when trying to boot off it, other computers wouldn't recognize it, it was basically bricked (i suspect the controller, since I only had it for 2 years, and only used for OS). So I sent it back, and they ended up giving me a different model (Corsair Force GS).
I performed a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro x64 on the new SSD, and ever since then I've been having the BSOD's. At first I suspected a driver problem, but Windows says all drivers are up to date and there's another weird thing happening: after the BSOD, when restarts and tries to boot up again, the BIOS freezes at around 70% again (around the time when it communicates with the default boot device), and I have to manually shut it down (from the power button), and turn it back on again(this time it works fine, and writes the 'Event 41, Kernel Power' event to logs).
I suspect it's the SSD again, but I can't explain it. It's been driving me crazy for the past week, especially since I also use this laptop (Acer Aspire 5737z) for work.

I keep getting blue screens and the last one said Kernel security check failure. I'm not sure if the other failures were with the same error but I would assume they were. The laptop crashes while getting shut down, during several hours of use and today when I turned it on it failed straight away. I hope I've correctly posted the zip file.

I've been suffering a high volume of BSODs - both before and after I switched hard drive last week.
I'm getting Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error on almost every first startup. In addition, I often get a Page Fault in Unpaged Area BSOD when gaming (primarily Max Payne 3) - dxgmms1.sys has been referenced on more than one of these occasions.
Dump file log (hopefully attached).

My laptop has 4 months old. Envy dv6 1TB, i7, 12 Gb Ram.
I was doing normal work, and I left my laptop downloading a torrent. Laptop not connected to power, so only running on the battery on High Performance Profile. I had lunch , that took me around 40 minutes, and when i came back the screen was off ( which is normal) I moved the mouse, I was preparing to login and suddenly the screen just turned all blue with big letters telling me INPAGE KERNEL DATA ERROR and that the memory or something was going to be downloaded and then the laptop would be restarted. Then a percentage number started to increase 20%,30%, 60% 100% and laptop restarted.
This is the first time i see this error.
So I attach the required file.

I have a ASUS windows 8 system (64-bit) I bought slightly more than a year ago. After 6 months, I got the Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error blue screen (like this image: ) once in 10 days or so. I neglected to address the problem then. Totally regret it! Its frequency slowly started increasing and today I got it almost once every hour.
It does not happen at start-up like I read in some forums but while I am randomly working. The error message appears and the system automatically restarts. I have a major presentation for school coming up in a couple of weeks and would like to fix this at the soonest.
I ran disk check on my C drive and it said there were some problems and I went ahead and requested a repair. Once its complete and I ran the disk check again it still says there are errors and I initiated the repair again. Not sure if its fixed this time. D drive had no problems. I also ran the memory diagnostics tool - no memory errors were found.
