I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga Pro 2. It has 13.3 inch screen. The default browser is IE11.
I can barely see the favorites bar or the menu bar. Is there anyway to make these appear larger?
I just recently imported Bookmarks (Favorites) from Chrome, and I was wondering how to remove the names of my bookmarks to have only the icons showing? That's the way I have them in Chrome, and it is great because it saves tremendous space on the Favorite Bar. I don't want to change with "Customize Title Width" to show only the Icons because I have some named folders as well, and when the text is removed it's impossible to know their contents. I know it's possible to have icons only show, even with the setting "Long Titles" selected, because YouTube, one of my imports, did indeed save without a name/title. I have attached a screenshot to exemplify that this is indeed possible:
View 1 Replies View RelatedBrand new Dell 8500 XPS running Win 8 64 bit with IE 10. I transferred my favorites from my Win VISTA machine using Easy Transfer which caused the lost of many IE Fav Icons. Sometimes when I click on a favorite the icon will show up and some won't even though they are present on my Win VISTA machine.
Is there away to restore those Fav Icons which are supposed to be there? I realize all websites don't support the Fav Icons.
Using Windows 8 IE 10. I have a long list of favorites that I like to keep on the left side of my screen. For some reason the list does not always stay there. I have to go to the "Star" ( view Favorites") on the top right and use the pin favorites which will then put on the left, but they do not always stay there. I seems like a continous process. Is there a setting I am not doing right?

The favorites list in the menu bar can't be scrolled with the mouse wheel, so that's out, and pinning the Favorites Center would be too intrusive.
I do prefer a local account but when i try to install new apps from app store Windows 8.1 asks me to switch to a microsoft account.
Can I install apps with a local account? and how can i understand if I have a local account or microsoft account.
Ever since this new update with 8.1 I can't install any new apps... I first noticed when my Mail app stopped working and froze my computer. So I uninstalled the app and when I tried to install it back I get the screenshot below.. So I tried Yahoo Mail, some games, some other apps.. Nothing will work. Experiencing issues trying to download game apps from the Microsoft Store. He gets a message stating that the install can not be completed and the error code is 0x80070091.
I used Team Viewer to connect to his and attempted to do several different free games and all of them do the same thing.
I ran Malwarebytes and had some Mindspark pups which we eliminated. Did several of those scans and they have come back fine.
Checked his Windows Updates and there only 3 optional ones, Silverlight, bing bar and something else, can't remember which right now.
Ran the HP assistant to make sure that there were no HP updates that needed to be done.
Then, ran a sfc/scannow and the 1st run through came back with some corrupted stuff and, I guess, it fixed some stuff?
Ran that again earlier today and the log came back much shorter than the 1st run last night.
At this point, I don't know where to proceed from there... I am attaching the log ...
How do I put apps onto my 64 Gb "Secure Digital Storage Device (D", (Micro SD memory card). I have it listed under "Libraries" in "File Explorer" at the moment. I have installed all my pictures in there, along with "File History". Now I need to put some large apps in there too, if possible.

I have gone to java.com/en/download/win.jsp?locale=en and downloaded Java onto my laptop. I then right click on the file and click "Run as administrator". It then asks me if I want to give approval to run the executable and I answer yes. At this point, nothing happens.
I have tried this with Chrome and IE 10 and I have tried to install it from the Desktop screen.
How to correctly install Java as I can't seem to be able to do so.

Windows 8 will not allow me to install Libre Office 4. It produces the following error when I try to do so:

I am trying to add a new user account to my machine (Microsoft account). When complete, none of the default Start screen apps are properly installed - aside from the desktop tile, all others have a black X in the bottom right hand corner and suggest repair/reinstall when clicked.
Have tried deleting the account and starting afresh, but still the same problem. The main account is working fine, no problem with the apps. Also tried Microsoft's Windows app troubleshooter app, but no fix.
I had no problems adding users to previous Windows 8 machine. How to proceed. Machine is fully patched from Windows update.

I just got an XPS 8500 with 64-bit Win 8 (non-Pro). I'd like to load a lot of XP apps from my ancient machine. Is there a way to load/run them? I've heard of HYPER-V, but it only runs on Win 8 Pro. There may be other solutions, but I don't know which to choose. I'd like to feel comfortable that whatever it is will work. If the answer is No, should I go to 32-bit Win 7 or 8 (and would THEY work?) or some other answer?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI made a small Emgu apllication in Visual C# Express 2010. It can works fine in Win XP PC's. But doesn't run on Windows 8. I compiled the progam in .net framework 3.5 and in 4.0 and modifiy the Myexecutable.exe.config adding <supportedRuntime version="v2.0.50727"/>.
But program doesn't start, just show a message that the program doesn't work. I tried it in Windows XP compatibility mode but nothing.
Downloaded Office 2010 (had a disc but without driver wouldn't play). Used the key that came with the disc. Downloaded ok. I can find it in the apps, I can even have it open but when I try to open a Word file I receive in an email for example I get the screen that asks me to either buy it or if I already have it, to enter the key. Enter the key and it says it's not valid, but is the key I used to download.

The same if i download the dotNetFx35setup.exe setup from Microsoft Website. I tried also in other 2 ways suggested here (Installazione di .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8) :
- In Control Panel -> Programs -> Enable or disable Windows Features -> .NET Framework 3.5 but i receive the same error
- I insert Windows 8 DVD in the D: Unit and i type in the prompt command this code:

But I receive this error:

im having problem with installing java.
Pc mentioned that i have a very old version of java ( last updated was in early 2013) and that i need to install the latest version. when i do, it reports an error of being unable to download it and install it. what should i do?
I am having a problem where any msi (and some .exe's) I have try to run to install a program have trouble accessing the AppData folder.
This is a recent install of Windows 8.1 (on a fresh drive) and then moved the user folder (which I think could be causing the issue). I moved the user folder using these steps User Folders - Change Default Location . I have proper access to the folder and everything. The most recent failure for me was Skype, after trying to launch the app which (seemingly) comes with Windows 8, I decided to install it myself. When I did, that box came up.
TL : DR - Programs will not install and it seems to revolve around my AppData folder.
I just picked up an Asus B121 tablet and Windows 8.1.1 so far seems to work quite well. This is my first time with that update. I like the changes except I don't like the boot into desktop by default.
I can't install Facebook on the Metro screen. It's stuck on pending. I have waited a while and it just sits there at "Pending". I have tried to change usernames in the store, I have successfully downloaded other Metro apps. I have cancelled the request several times and tried again to install it. Same problem.
Could this be because my tablet has no rear camera and therefore I am nor meeting some app requirement? If so you think it would tell me that.
I have a friend with a tablet that asked if this was possible. Did a search and do not see the answer. Is it possible. It is a dell venue 8 pro.
Edit- It is on 8.1 with the update. The registry fix that worked with 8 does not work.
