Using Windows 8 IE 10. I have a long list of favorites that I like to keep on the left side of my screen. For some reason the list does not always stay there. I have to go to the "Star" ( view Favorites") on the top right and use the pin favorites which will then put on the left, but they do not always stay there. I seems like a continous process. Is there a setting I am not doing right?
View 8 RepliesThis seems to be happening more and more, I am using my PC (with Windows 8 Pro) as an HTPC and its connected via HDMI to a plasma TV so the PC is always on. Sometimes, when I go to use the pc I turn the TV on and then move the mouse around to turn the display on and I see the attached image, it looks as though the screen has shifted to the right and wrapped around to the other side.
I ran windows 7 with the same hardware on this setup for years without an issue.
I just recently imported Bookmarks (Favorites) from Chrome, and I was wondering how to remove the names of my bookmarks to have only the icons showing? That's the way I have them in Chrome, and it is great because it saves tremendous space on the Favorite Bar. I don't want to change with "Customize Title Width" to show only the Icons because I have some named folders as well, and when the text is removed it's impossible to know their contents. I know it's possible to have icons only show, even with the setting "Long Titles" selected, because YouTube, one of my imports, did indeed save without a name/title. I have attached a screenshot to exemplify that this is indeed possible:

The favorites list in the menu bar can't be scrolled with the mouse wheel, so that's out, and pinning the Favorites Center would be too intrusive.
I really liked the sidebar that popped up from the left of the screen showing what you had open in Windows 8. Now it's suddenly gone and I don't know why.
Also, I've noticed that when I launch Chrome from the Start page, it no longer opens a Chrome browser independent of the Desktop, as it used to. Now it just opens Desktop and launches Chrome from within there.
Can't move the cursor off the active screen to the top, right or bottom. But when I move the cursor to the left side, it goes forever.
I often do a split screen e.g. to look at two panels concurrently, you can go to the option between minimize & maximize (does this mode have a name???), move the panel to the right and you get a half-screen on the right. Do the same with another screen, move it to the left, and you again get a half-screen. Dunno what this feature is called, but it exists in Win7 & Windows 8, great for doing copy-and-paste from one to another.
Problem is, when I drag to the left, it goes off into space.
Today I start to seeing this when the pointer is in the top left side... is it normal?
It didn't happen before, I restart my computer, but it didn't fix anything

I have installed Classic Shell in an attempt to eradicate as much of Windows 8 as possible. I managed to get the word "Desktop" onto the right side of the quick launch taskbar. I have to click on a tiny arrow next to that word. That brings up a desktop menu but doesn't go to the desktop itself.
How can I get a desktop icon (not the word "Desktop") on the left side of the taskbar next to the start button? In Windows 7 the icon was on the right side but I somehow managed to move it to the left side.
I know about Win D and Win M. Those are okay but I'd rather have an icon to click on to eliminate extra keystrokes.
I am looking to change the look of my browser and i figure the time calender and apps would look nice on the left side of the toolbar. is there any way?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed yesterday that there is a very fine thin line on the left side of my desktop. In the screen shot you can barely make it out, but you will be able to once you see ot from the left corner of task bar. it does not appear when i open a browser or a folder or even start menu. It only shows on the desktop screen and is really annoying. I tried disabling some odd services and restarted the computer as well, but still no luck.

I have a 60mb fibre broadband - on my old laptop (Win 8.1)with no external antenna, only what is built into the machine - I am getting over 62mb on several tests. My desktop - fourcore intel i5, 8mb ram on Windows 8 has no antenna either so I have an Alfa (AWUS036NH) with a 6db gain aerial attached, is struggling to reach 20mb. They are located side by side.

It is important for me to keep 2 apps in same screen at least, for example IE and Translator.
I also tried to edit regedit as a tutorial found on Bing said to follow to enabling this feature.
but the problem still is alive and restrict me just to switching between apps which is not comfort.
How do I get rid of the crap -- that keeps popping in from the right side of the screen when I'm trying to scroll down while on the internet. Disrupts my scrolling and then I have to get rid of the useless junk before I can clear the screen. Can I eliminate this intrusion without going to a new operating system? I have windows 8.1 with all of the latest updates.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI turned my laptop right off last night (I usually just put it into sleep mode) and now, since rebooting this morning, I can't get the menu to slide in from the right hand side. Instead, the Power and Search icons are showing at the top of the start screen along side my name and avatar.
I've recently had to have a new hard drive but the menu has been working OK until now.
Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change to get this back?
I just purchased a laptop with Windows 8 installed on it. I have one problem. I know if you hit one of the corners of the screen the right toolbar becomes activated and is displayed. My problem is that it tends to be displayed when I move the cursor in the middle of the screen. When it is displayed I have to deactivate it in order to continue what I was doing. I do not mind the toolbar if it is not so sensitive.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I play videos on youtube, WMP, mplayer or adobe air/flash, video app or whatever, the entire display/screen moves to the left and leaves a black rectangle on the right side of the plasma TV (about one sixth the width of the display). It doesn't happen as soon as I launch the video, but happens when I exit the fullscreen or terminate the app/window and stays that way. The only way to reset it is to log off and log back in or restart the computer.
Mind you, it is not the apps/windows shifting to the left but the entire display, as if some one used the tv settings to move the display area to the left and so left part of the desktop and windows are cut off.
This is getting pretty annoying as keep switching to apps that display text such as VS, Notepad, browser etc in between while playing movies/videos. I can't read what is on the left side of the app window as it is not visible, I need to either resize the window or log out and log back in.
I am using Windows 8 x64 with latest updates and drivers (display and others).
I'm running Windows 8.1. and recently I tried to launch Internet Explorer (11) from the start menu. It launched Firefox. I ran a search from the start menu for Internet Explorer found it and clicked. Again Firefox opened instead of IE. I clicked on an icon on my desktop set up to open a website in IE regardless of browser preferences. It opened Firefox and went to the homepage I have set in Firefox not to the URL I had set.
Opening IE by browsing to to C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe. workes just fine. Creating a desktop shortcut directly to the exe works fine. I played around with the associated programs for internet and even with everything defaulting to IE it would still open Firefox when clicking on the IE Tile on the start menu. I uninstalled/reinstalled IE11 with no change.
So I then uninstalled Firefox. Now clicking on the start icon for IE it brings up a box asking me something about an exe with a checkbox (can't remember exactly) and below that Internet explorer or I can choose other down below. If I chose IE it brought up another window asking what I wanted to do with iexplore.exe. Save/ Save As / Save and Run. None of the options opened IE. IE at this point still runs by going directly to the exe in Program Files.
Logged off as that user and logged back on as a different user and ie works just fine from that profile.
I'm guessing something in my registry is hosed, how I can repair this?
I'm running Windows 8 and IE 10. At the bottom of my browser screen I continually get this pop-up message:
do you want to open or save get.js (1.45KB) from media.fastclick.net?
Obviously I do not want to install this tracking (cookie) software. How do I get rid of the pop-up question?
I use a Lenovo C540 All In One with 23" screen and when I open IE10 the small version of homepage appears. Is there any way that I can get this to open full screen.

I've managed to make the display horizontally smaller, but I can't figure out how to change the center to the right side. This is annoying because I have to re-size every window every time I open it, and then I have to constantly scroll back and forth on web pages. I'd rather be able to maximize and have it only on the right side. See the attached picture to see what I'm talking about.

Yesterday, I had to purchase a new desktop PC monitor. It's a Samsung S22C300H .
The resolution is higher than my previous monitor. As a result, when I open Microsoft Word and have it display in Print Layout mode, the page has shifted from the center of the screen to the far left.
(The resolution on the new monitor is 1920 x 1080.)
I've been used to the page being in the center of the screen for the past 20 years! I've lowered the resolution, which did center the page in Word, but the resolution is nowhere near as sharp as the high resolution mode.
Is there a way to get the Print Layout page in Word to be centered on the screen in this high resolution? If so, what is the procedure?
Is the only way to send a site's 'page or link' by email opened on the Start screen is to select the 'View on desktop' & send it from there?
