Tablets :: Cursor Disappear When Switch From One Windows Account To Another
Oct 7, 2013I've got a problem with my cursor disappearing when I switch from one Windows account to another. The older account got set up this past Christmas when I got the computer and the newer one got set up a couple of weeks ago. I had no problem with either account until today: now, suddenly, I'm finding that when I switch to the newer account, the cursor just flat-out disappears and doesn't come back for love or money. This leaves me unable to do very much of anything except switch back to the older account, where my cursor usually reappears. But as soon as I go back to the newer account, I've lost the cursor and can't make it come back.
For months now, I've been frustrated by the apparent oversensivity of the gesture interpretation on the touchpad. I innocently move a finger along the touchpad to get it from A to B and find that it gets interpreted as a wish to scroll or bring up a context menu or whatever. So yesterday, I disabled all but the single-finger gestures. The problem seems to have begun right after that. After various reboots and other experiments to get my cursor back on the newer account, I finally decided to re-enable the gestures as they had been on the theory that perhaps that was causing my cursor problems.
Any way to keep my cursor from disappearing in the second Windows account? And if you know how to keep the touchpad from reacting to every minute movement and interpreting it is an attempted-gesture when it is just me moving my hand.
The laptop is an ASUS K55N, which was new at 2012.

I have the power options setup so that the power switch shuts the system down.
But it doesn't. If the screen is off and I press the power switch on my PC the screen comes back on. I then need to press the power switch a second time for the computer to power down.
Is there anyway to configure Windows 8.1 so that the power switch does not turn the display back on, but just immediately shuts the system down?

Jan 26, 2014Ever since I switch to windows 8.1, I usually get random black bars in chrome when i switch to other apps. The black bars goes away when I move my mouse over it. This doesn't happen on windows 8 or windows 7. I have HD 6970 gpu and the latest video card driver.
Also, I notice that in windows 7 and win 8, when i right click the chrome icon on the task bar, it would have options like new window and new incognito window, but in window 8.1 it's gone.

I am still using my old Acer aspire 4741g laptop which was preinstalled with windows 7. The problem now is that my father don't really like windows 8, he prefers windows 7. And i want to upgrade to windows 8. So what I want to ask if it is possible to like switch operating systems with him or something like that??? Is there any point to switch from x32 to x64?
Is there any down side? I read somewhere that I won't be able to run 16-bit applications (I don't even know if they still exist)?
Do I need to do a clean install, or can I use the Upgrade install option rather than the Custom (advanced) install option?

Jan 8, 2013Have just purchased this; HP Pavilion g6-2210sa 15.6" Laptop - Red Deals | Pcworld Upon hearing that I was up for the challenge of setting it up myself, the sales assistant pointed out that the very first thing I must do is back up the OS (windows 8).
I asked, 'oh, is the OS on a hidden partition?' .. and he said no, its in the BIOS. And I only have one chance to make a back-up copy, as soon as I switch on. Also; if I have software issues after that point, but haven't backed up the OS, I can't claim it under the manufacturer's warranty as an issue.
I believe that the .. key? .. is in the bios now, so I never have to worry about losing it, but apart from that .. egad.
Is there an auto-prompt, or do I need to do a regular ol' back-up .. and where do I back it up to, a separate hard drive/dvd etc?
So. I have this shiny, new, laptop. In it's shiny, new, unopened box, right now. And am starting to wonder if I should have coughed up the £50 to get 'em to set it up for me..!

Apr 11, 2014I was playing a game on my laptop and decided to switch from wifi to ethernet. I plugged in the ethernet and turned off the wifi switch to ensure it switched over, but later when I tried to turn wifi back on, I see the wifi on/off switch is grayed out.
I went to my device manager to check for wifi network adapter driver updates, but everything seemed pretty up to date.
Any recommendations on how to fix this? Or at the least another method of turning the wifi on, like through command prompt or something?

All I want to do is have an on screen 'windows button' that will take me from the desktop back to the start screen with a click of the mouse, as opposed to having to physically push the keyboard button.
I know this is ultimately lazy, but surely it should be simple and sometimes a mouse click is just so much easier than pushing the button!

I have been trying to use AMD Vision software but it doesn't seem to work. I would assume that the presets would do such job.
Virtualization :: How To Create External Virtual Switch (Grayed Out)
Nov 25, 2013I had Hyper-V and Ubuntu running on Windows 8 no problem. I've since done a fresh install to 8.1, and I can no longer create an External Virtual Switch. The button for "Create Virtual Switch" is grayed out when I select "External". I can create Internal and Private switches, but not External. There's no error or message so I'm having difficulty troubleshooting. All of the tutorials I've seen don't talk about any configuration I would need to do before creating an external switch. I have the default Windows 8.1 firewall and antivirus stuff.

I tried creating the Virtual Switch in PowerShell with the following commands
