I am using the mail program that came with Windows 8. It defaults to a Hotmail account I don't use, and I have to click on the account I do use. Can I get rid of the Hotmail account? I could just switch to gmail, but it would work better this way if I can get rid of Hotmail.

I use the default Windows 8.1 Mail client but I never used my Windows Live account.
Is there any ways to remove Windows Live email or at least make Gmail as the default email address on Windows Mail?
It has just stopped working. I can't receive mail and I can't send any mail. It worked just fine before but now it has just given up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 8.1 x64. I would like to know how to add a gmail account to my Windows Mail app so that I can view my mail from there. Please note I do not and am using a Microsoft account to log into my pc. I am using a local account and want to keep it that way. Now I have followed the steps given here-: Set up Mail and add contacts - Microsoft Windows
But I am unable to find Add Account when I click on settings. The Add Account option seems to be located in Settings -> Change PC Settings -> Add Account. But this creates another user on the system and has nothing to do with the Windows Mail.
Please note my Gmail is protected via 2-step verification. Is it possible to add this type of an account into Windows Mail ? Also how do I add it Microsoft seems to force me to use their Microsoft account for email and etc. But I want to use my own gmail account.
Is there any way to connect my Gmail account to the Mail Metro App without having to use my Live ID? I have absolutely no desire to tie all my stuff to a MS Live ID. Just want to be able to check my mail.
I have already installed Skype desktop to get around the Live ID crap for the metro version, and I will install Thunderbird if needed, but if I can find a way around it I will use the built in mail client.

Besides the fact that I want all of my MAILTO links to use my Web based Gmail account, I need it to do so to make it work with OneNote.
In OneNote, when I try to send someone a page, it gives me an error message about Microsoft Outlook not being started or set up, and says to change it in Default Programs. I tried doing this, but my MAILTO links are all set to Google Chrome, which seems like it would work.
friend move to Windows 8. We cannot figure out how to move contacts from Gmail on XP to Gmail on Windows 8. We have Exported to a thumb drive (.wab) and plugged into the Windows 8 computer. Dialog box asked if we wanted to import and we said yes. Going to gmail there is NO contacts list.
What do we need to do to get the contacts transferred to Gmail?
I can't seem to get the metro email app to remember the account that I want to send email from on default. I have a Gmail account and two Exchange accounts. Seems like any time another app or web site wants to send an email there is no logic as to what account it sends from.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using my Gmail account with the Windows 8 Mail App and it was all working fine until I updated it through the store yesterday (I haven't updated it before so I don't know what version of the app I am now using). Today when I try and access my folders I just getting a message saying 'no messages from the last 2 weeks', meaning I cannot access all those useful emails that I have kept on purpose without using gmail through chrome. I have looked through the settings and cannot find if there is a way to change this - is there? Or can I un-install the update and just go back to using the old version, and if so, how would I do this.

Have installed office 2007 Standard (32 bit) on it and now I want to configure outlook 2007 to send/receive my hotmail.co.uk account (or is that now outlook.com)? Either way I have scoured the internet and just cannot get it to work. I could choose pop3 but then my mail accounts won't be synchronised across all my computers so I wanted to go the imap account. If I do this and use the outlook.com settings I can receive email just find but it will not send.
I've tried the outlook connector and that makes no difference whatsoever. I've tried pop3 and that doesn't work I've also tried imap and that doesn't work either.
I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 pro edition, which includes internet explorer 11. I still can't access my gmail account, I've tried the 'fixes' that I've seen in the community, but the only way I can get gmail to load in the 'desktop' version is to select the 'html' version.
How to get gmail to load correctly, but so far ..it still doesn't load like it did while I had windows 8 pro / IE 10 installed on my laptop. Lately..I've just been using google chrome browser, things are 'normal' with it.

I created folders for emails that I wanted to keep, but gmail's inbox states to get messages that are more than one month go to settings. I have gone into settings but I can't get access my emails of over a month. I take screenshots of all emails I want to keep and put them in a file and if I don't I can't access them. How I can file keep the emails that I want, as there is no facility for me to save. The contents of gmail's inbox folders are then removed after one month.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning windows 8.1 and i use 3 browsers, my main (default) is Opera, the issues i have are opera is set as default browser in opera settings, but for instance when checking emails say overclockers uk i see something catches my eye, i click it and link opens in opera, not in win 8.1, it pops a box up asking how do you want to open this type of link, firefox, google chrome or look for app in dam app store [URL] ....

Ever since I switch to windows 8.1, I usually get random black bars in chrome when i switch to other apps. The black bars goes away when I move my mouse over it. This doesn't happen on windows 8 or windows 7. I have HD 6970 gpu and the latest video card driver.
Also, I notice that in windows 7 and win 8, when i right click the chrome icon on the task bar, it would have options like new window and new incognito window, but in window 8.1 it's gone.
I got Windows Mail working and pretty happy as I was able to retrieve about 10 years of messages. But, pointers went bad and some messages are not available. The only way to get them is to go directly to the folder where they are saved, and open the message itself -- they're all there. So, I would do that and re-save, but I can't open .eml files. Windows 8 doesn't allow me to specify Windows Mail as a default program for any file type. I'm pretty sure I had to edit the registry to get Windows Mail to fully work with Windows 7 but can't recall what all changes need to happen, or if Windows 8 is just going to be more limited.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to disable the 'sent from windows mail' signature on my emails. From my gmail account I have done this flawlessly through the account settings, toggling signature to off. However, for my other account, the option to remove the signature has been disabled. I believe it is because it is the account linked with my microsoft login, and therefore integral to Windows 8. At the bottom it says (paraphrased) 'This is the microsoft account you use to login to windows, to change this account, you must go to 'change pc settings'
Whilst I can find 'change pc settings' in the Windows 8 menu, there is no option to remove email signature here from what I can see.
I don't have a Microsoft account, I don't want one. My Windows 8 E-Mail address is for the E-Mail account on the family webserver, and yet when I get the confirmation E-Mail, it links me to a hotmail/outlook login page.
Hotmail/outlook can't process my Windows 8 E-Mail account, how do I get past this aggravating obstacle?

Lately, I can only access my Hotmail and Skydrive through their respective Start Screen Apps. When I try to log on to either of them using my browser, I get an "Incorrect Password" message.
Although I didn't changed it, my password for Hotmail and Skydrive is not in sync with Win 8.1. So, is there any way for me to find out what my Win 8 password is so I can log in to my Hotmail and Skydrive accounts on the web?
