View 7 RepliesOk, so here's what I keep running into.......I turn off UAC, and within a few hours I start getting a notification that I need to activate Windows 8. It's a legit install, and this only happens when I turn off the UAC.
If I turn UAC back on, then the activation is not a problem and all is good. However, if I try to re-activate with the UAC off, it runs into an error.
For the past week or so, I am suddenly (in the middle of working on something) getting a blue screen that says "Activate Windows. Go to PC Settings to activate Windows." And there's a PC settings button to click. The only way out of that screen is to click there. So I do, and it briefly looks like I'm going to go to some sort of settings screen, but then it disappears and it takes me to my start screen. When I go back to my desktop, whatever I was working on is right where I left it. Happens several times a day.
Why this is happening and why it never actually takes me to PC Settings and what I can do to stop this?
I'm running 8.1 - I "upgraded" (I use that term loosely!) when it first became available back in October.
I currently have an issue with activating Windows 8.1. I bought a Samsung series 7 chronos NP780 last November that came with Windows 8 installed already. I upgraded to 8.1 a few days ago and left it overnight to complete. Everything went fine up until I had to activate it. It says that the product key is incorrect and to enter a different one. I have looked at the box that the laptop came in, the manuals in it and on the laptop itself and there is no product key to be found. One or two of the manuals/booklets might be missing but I'm fairly sure that the product key is within the BIOS so should it not recognise the product key itself automatically and complete the upgrade without asking me for the key? I ran belarc to can by laptop and at the section where the product key should be it says "Key: None activated". I also ran keyfinder and the key it gave me back didnt work (although the end of it seems to match the end of the one that is listed as the "current product key".
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got my Windows 8.1 Pro cd, and when I try to activate, it would not activate ! It says my code is blocked beacuse it is not a legit product code.
View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday did a clean reinstall of Windows because my computer was acting weird. It installed no problem but after a few hours of reinstalling programs I noticed that Windows wasn't activated, so I went to PC Settings and clicked "Activate Windows," but as soon as I clicked it the page closed. I tried again, reset the computer, tried again, but the same thing happens. I've also been getting a few BSODs which I'll make a separate post about, but how to fix the activation error?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just reinstalled 8 on a ssd and tried to install 8.1 from the store but it says i need to update windows first. I tried running windows update but i get an error saying "Windows could not search for new updates" error code 80240440. I tried everything I could find online and nothing seems to work. I tried restarting windows update, i tried turning off firewall, I tried reinstalling windows again and selecting "check for updates online" before installing from the cd, i tried running a check disk, and there is absolutely no program installed on the drive other than windows.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was reviewing my windows updates and saw two optional updates that were pending. First one was for MS office and it went through fine. Second one was some update to AMD vision control center. During that update screen flashed couple of times and went for re-start. After that I am unable to get into the system. I tried safe mode/debugging/low resolution mode etc.. But all resulted in the same blue screen with the 0xc000021a error message.
I am able to go only to command prompt. Nothing else (fortunately I am able to backup my photos by connecting external hard drive and using command prompt). I checked the SRT log file but it doesn't say any issue. All passed.
I tried refresh PC but it came back and said "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes made".
I tried using win ISO image bootable flash drive. It couldn't get through me in (I just tried with PC repair option when I booted with ISO image).
Is there a way I can get over it without re-installing?

I'm constantly trying to update my Windows 8 but I'm unable to do so, because everytime I try to update it, it fails to install because of an errors. To be specific, its two updates with different errors 8007371B and 80073712.
Those two updates are the only one showing up. Their id is KB2856373 (Update for Windows 8 on x64 CPU's) and KB2781197 (Security update for Windows 8 on x64 CPU's).
I have already tried sfc, chkdisk, Windows update diagnostics from Microsoft website, resetting the services, Windows build-in tool to fix Windows update errors and nothing worked.
I have an HP that I cannot get to activate. I did a clean install and my login is an admin. I deselected installing Norton's during the reset but it was there when I booted up so I removed it with the Norton's removal tool. I tried activating by using the "Windows activation" from the search button and then tried by using an elevated command prompt of "slui.exe 4" but both ways gave me a 0xc0000022 error.

View 9 Replies View RelatedDuring update, Windows 8.1 restarts, and goes to the boot screen. Then gives this error: We couldn't complete the updates, Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer.
All updates that were installed get undone. And if you install updates again, it will do the same thing. The reason is because of one update: IE 11 Windows 8.1 - KB2962872
I bought a laptop last July it had Windows 8 preinstalled, I had it for about a month and the screen went black on it so i sent it to a guy in my town and he fixed it but ever since it kept telling me to activate Windows 8, but it wont activate when i put in the serial code it says "Error: 0x8007007B The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect"
I've tried to fix it and i'd get it to go away for a while and it'd pop up again but since the other day whenever i turn it on it goes to this blue screen asking me to activate it and after a while on it the blue screen pops up again but it still wont activate it says "Windows can't activate at the moment"
I had Windows 8 Pro with Media Center installed on my Asus K55A laptop and it was 'activated'....no problems! So I decided to install the 8.1 Preview via the Windows Store...installation went fine. However when exploring, I noticed that it was not activated: So I entered in the the product key for my Windows 8 pro information....even purchased a Windows 8 Pro media DVD....have a copy of the email with the purchase price..So I enter in the Product Key that worked successfully with Windows 8 Pro: Received this nice message..
Error Code: 0xC004C003
Error Description: The Activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked
A note that also stated, You need to enter in the product key on the back of Windows 8 box, or the product key that came in the email that you received when you purchased the DVD....I have a copy of the email that I received with the purchased Windows 8 DVD.....there is NO product key listed at all!Now I can not even attempt to customize Windows 8.1 preview, because it is not activated.....
I am quite frustrated to say the least, and even attempted to install (clean) back to Windows 8 Pro with my purchased DVD....when I entered the same product key that was successful (only 3-4 days) ago....the installation process stalled!
So I stuck in a Windows 7 disc.....and at least the system rebooted back into Windows 8.1 Preview....but still no dam activation...I guess my only alternative is to contact Microsoft support... my Windows 8 Pro with Media Center was running beautifully and was fully activated only 2 hrs ago...

I just started getting this error today. It's a Microsoft Office 2013 update error, but I can find nothing by searching for it. I ran the automated update repair tool a couple of times but it did nothing.
Edit: I was able to download the update and install it, but Windows update still tries to install it and fails.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I search for updates with windows update it finds the drivers I want but it gives me an error message whenever I try to install them.
I already tried downloading the latest windows update (when I install it, it says the update was succesful and asks me to restart, but when I search again after restarting the update shows up again and lets me install it again).
I also tried deleting and renaming my software distribution folder and using the windows troubleshooting program.
Overall I'm not really too fussed about most of the things it's trying to install apart from the drivers for the wireless reciever for my xbox controller as it won't work without them. When I try to install the driver files through device manager it gives me this error message
my main reason for mentioning the windows update problem is that I assume the problems are linked as the wireless reciever works perfectly on my laptop. Up to about a week ago it also worked perfectly on this computer using the same usb port that it uses now.
As you can see, on the 19th, it suddenly began to say "NULL DRIVER". I checked my system restore and it tells me that I installed a windows update on that day just before it suddenly stopped working. I tried reverting back to this restore point (before the update) and nothing had changed, the device still would not work.
So when I install update 2903939 it installs fine but upon reboot it goes to 7%, reboots, reboots again as soon as the background color for the login screen shows, and then says windows was unable to update.
So far I have tried:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
SFC /scannow
Restart background intelligence service
Remove extra USB devices
Disable antivirus ( I don't have one except for bitdefender)
Renaming distribution folder in %systemroot% to .old
SFC said something couldn't be repaired and I don't really understand the log. DISM said it repaired a store component or something. I am very lost on where to go next. I cannot seem to upload the CBS.log as a .txt I get an internal error.
I just bought my computer 2 weeks ago .. I filled in my specs and also uploaded my system info information as an attachment. Last night, I tried to download the windows 8.1 update. I let it run over night, but this morning when I woke, I had a blue screen that said windows could not fix my problem .. and gave me options to try. I ended up having to wipe my computer to factory conditions. After the restore .. the only thing I installed before downloading updates was my driver for my NVIDIA Geforce750 Ti card, and my wireless network adapter ..
I then downloaded 91 updates .. all failed .. and didn't install .. error 800F0922.
sfc /scannow .. got to 51% .. then ..
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log windirlogscbscbs.log. For example C:windowslogscbscbs.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.
Asus S200E notebook, Win 8 Pro
I recently took in this laptop for my neighbor. The original idea was to scan and clean up the system. I set the laptop up in my office, ran an MSE full scan with no issues. Then ran a full Malwarebytes scan, which returned a few pups, which were removed.
After tending to other matters, I turned back to the laptop to find notification that there was a problem and windows had to restart. I ran another MWB scan only to have the system restart again. This time, the system tried to repair itself with automatic repair. No go. All reboots ended up back at the advanced startup options screen. No ability to restore the system image, no system restore. All I could get to was the cmd prompt.
Googling turned up all sorts of people with this issue (mostly older posts), but very few solutions.
This fix got my system booted again by removing pending update operations.
Apparently, an MS update is the source of the problem. To further reinforce this, until I turned off automatic updating, it would happen again. I also disconnected the machine from my network to revoke its internet access.
So the machine is no longer having start issues, but I'm not sure which update it is. I have 17 pending optional updates, but those haven't installed, so I doubt they're an issue.
I checked update history and there are 29 failed updates. All are dated within the period that the laptop has been in my possession.
I think it would be quit tedious to hide each one individually, only to blue screen, enter the DISM fix, get back into windows and do it all again. How I could identify which update is resulting in the stop error.
To muddy the waters, I've been trying to image the drive via Acronis TI 2014 but can't complete due to 'found disk errors' on C:. Trying to create a system image from within windows halts due to disk errors also, but chkdsk reports no errors (from windows and from cmd).
I have installed Windows 8.1 Update 1 Pro Version a few weeks back on my desktop computer running 64 bit version of the OS. The OS was running perfectly fine until today when it started showing activation error. This is not right since I had installed Windows 8.1 Update 1 with a legit key since I have an MSDN subscription As you can see in below pic. It says that you can activate the Windows Machine now
Now I went ahead and tried to activate the windows by the key which I had intially activated and also with a new fresh different key which I haven't any activated windows machine yet. Both the steps didn't yield any fruitful results
1) When I hit "Activate" button
2) When I click "Error Details"
3) When I click "See Support info online" - Nothing happens

View 4 Replies View RelatedI own an Asus laptop with pre-installed Windows 8.1 and, after downloading & installing recent Windows updates (20th of September 2014, if memory serves me correctly), I am unable to access desktop because system freezes at boot sequence returning me this error: "Secure Boot Violation. Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup" printed inside a small red box.
After googling around, someone suggested to disable "Secure Boot" from BIOS and enable "Launch CSM". I performed such operations but I got no results (BIOS menu automatically appears after every reboot). Someone else suggested to change boot sequence and start system from a Recovery CD but I got no CD supplied with my laptop as Asus stopped providing CDs from very long time AFAIK.
I am quite sure problem relies on Windows Updates because I used this Laptop very little times and no p2p or hacked programs are installed. In addition to that, as far as I read, it seems other Win users experienced the same issue after installing WinUpdates but they have different BIOS so is not easy for me to understand my BIOS accordingly to what they do in their own BIOS in order to solve issue.
What annoys me most is that I bought this Laptop in July 2014 and, just three months later, it got freezes because of official Windows Updates and not because of bad behaviour of user.
