I have a windows 7 home premium retail license and upgraded to windows 8 pro x64 using promotion discount. Now I want to use some 16 bit applications that won't work with windows 8 x64. So I want to install either windows 7 or windows 8 32 bits on another partition along with windows 8 x64. Would it be legal ?

how I may update my Windows 8 Pro computer to 8.1 and then to the 8.1 update, if possible.
It's a volume licensed copy of Windows and I have no access to these updates. From what I've read, I need an MSN (what ever it's called) subscription to have access to these updates. I've seen articles around the web with ways to update, such as this one William's Blog: How to upgrade Windows 8 volume license to Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store but I do not want to do anything illegal or mess up my computer.

I have a Toshiba laptop (Portege R835-P56X). I was running Windows 8 upgraded from Win 7. I successfully upgraded to Windows 8.1 but was having some problems with the Wifi. I followed the instructions to reset the TCP/IP Autotuning. When I restarted, Windows failed to start, and all repair & recovery options failed, so I cannot even access System Restore.
Windows attempts Automatic Repair then shows options to "Restart" or "Advanced Options" but I am unable to click either one--the keyboard and keypad are both completely non-responsive.
Unfortunately, I do not even have a Win 8 disk to use for a repair. I do have a disk image from just before I upgraded to Win 8.1. The problem is: how to access it?
I did a legitimate upgrade from Windows 7 and have a license for Win 8 with Media Center, but unfortunately cannot locate my original email, so Windows won't send me a Windows 8 DVD.
I'm tempted to simply restore to factory settings and Windows 7, which I'm running on my other PC without all these hellish problems. I hate Windows 8 anyway.

I have an image of Windows 8.1 on a laptop I am testing with and would like to install/upgrade to 8.1 pro to test our product when running on a domain (thus the need for pro). How do I do this upgrade using the MSDN bits available? I would really prefer to not to a clean install if I can avoid it because the bump to 8.1 pro has to be minimal from an upgrade point of view.

I called microsoft activation center and the only suggestion they have is clean install of windows 8 and redo the upgrade because the media center activation key was expired (after the promotion period). It wasted me an hour to make the call and talk with the manger (employee id 2814). They sound like it is none of their business.

Maintain Stuff as Migrate from Windows 7 to 8.1 So, when I moved from XP to Win 7 (late compared to most), I hear and read about Easy Transfer etc.
I figured the best was to figure out the FILE, FOLDER and PATHs for IMPORTANT things I wanted to CONSERVE.
If possible migrate PROGRAMS as THEY ARE.
XP32 > Win7x64 Migrate Settings Data: Chrome+Extn, Outlook+iTunes+App? - Windows 7 Now from XP > 7, a lot of paths changed.. Documents & Settings vs Users info, Local and other date.. Pretty much for every Program / Application.
Outlook was one drama, iTunes was other, Office another, WLMail another and so on.
Now, I am guessing there are some TOOLS or Simple Win 8.1 Upgrade that can be run on Win 7x64 Ultimate..
and there is..
.. Manual CURATING FILES, FOLDERS and PATHS and CONFIGURATIONS for Windows and Non-Windows thingies. (I did that XP .. > 7.. mapping big time.. and it was great.. but tiring to prepare the list and instructions)
Exhaustive MAPPING LIST.. that allows me to ensure BY HAND, everything was taken bit for bit.
I've used RichCopy, RoboCopy and TeraCopy in CONJUNCTION.. extensively before. Its just takes a lot of time, energy and attention to detail. "Easy transfer" resets folder modified date
XP32 > Win7x64 Migrate Settings Data: Chrome+Extn, Outlook+iTunes+App?

In our small office, we've made the decision to bring in a server. Right now, we have multiple PCs installed with Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, both basic OEM editions; and several others installed with Windows 7 Home Premium OEM.
In order to insert them into the server's domain, I'm forced to upgrade them to their respective Professional editions, for which I've recently received a VLSC license.
Now, I've been trying to use the MAK keys to upgrade my current OEM versions with no success. Attempting to "Add Features," using 'slui.exe' and 'slmgr.vbs' to install the new key all come back with an error that the keys can't be used.
My question, as such, is whether it is even possible to upgrade Windows 8 Basic OEM to Windows 8 (or 8.1) Pro Volume License?

I have an issue that I couldn't find anywhere on the forums. I recently received an SSD for christmas (32GB). I previously had Windows 8.1 installed on my other drive, a 2TB SSHD, but then re-installed Windows 8 to my SSD, and kept my personal data on the SSHD. Now I read online that any SSD under 64GB should be used for cache'ing my SSHD, rather than using it for storage. Would it even be useful to re-install Windows 8 onto the SSHD again, then transfer all my stuff? I'm slowly running out of space, even though I install all programs to my SSHD.
Is there any way I can clone the SSD to the SSHD, including the cache to the hidden solid-state part of the SSHD?
If so, are there any special precautions I have to take?

I purchased a new notebook and it has Office 2014 installed.. I was using Outlook on my old notebook, is there a way to migrate my account/folders/emails to my new notebook? I want to just pick right up where I left off, not have everything 'archived' and start new or anything..
Do I just copy the PST files over?

I have an Asus VivoBook that came with a 24GB mSATA (separated into two partions) cache drive and a 465 GB spinning drive partitioned into half. After basis setup, I appear to be using about 40GB.
I've done some homework and it appears that because of Bios limitations that replacing the mSATA drive with something bigger is not an option. I'd also prefer to not replace the spinning drive for cost reasons.
I'm evaluating the benefit of pruning my boot drive to its essentials and moving everything unessential to the its own partition on the spinning drive, then cloning this and moving it to the mSATA drive and rejiggering the boot sequence.

Hover the mouse in the top left box and it will indicate alignment or not.
Getting almost 500Mbps read and 400Mbps best write on the SSD :-) As Paragon have updated for Windows 8.1, you will need Paragon 14.

Can my Windows Pro license (non OEM) be transferred to my rebuilt computer that now has a different model motherboard and CPU? I tried booting up the newly rebuilt system with my system hard drive (two SSD's in RAID 0) as is but failed. It looks like I must do a clean install and then try to restore everything from my last backup.

I was wondering if there is a way to transfer a 32-bit Windows 8 Pro Upgrade license to a bootcamp partition in a 2012 Mac Mini without having to buy a new one. I bought Windows 8 for my laptop and the laptop will no longer be used. So is there a way I could maybe deactivate the license on my laptop, and reuse the same license on the Mac Mini?

I recently bought a Dell XPS 8500 with Windows 8 on it. I did a clean install of Windows 7 on that machine and would like to use the Windows 8 OEM license on it on my Dell Inspiron 17r SE laptop.
I tried typing in my key to do a clean install on the laptop but I got this error message:
The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key.
I bought these machines and therefore paid for the software, I should be able to install them on any machine I want. All of my machines are Dell, why can't I do this? What's going on?

I'm trying to find the official Microsoft licence agreement for Windows 8.1 Preview - any link?
I want to use Windows 8.1 Preview in a VM on a Windows 7 PC.
Normally for the full version of Windows 8, and I guess Windows 8.1 when the full version arrives, you'd need a separate licence for the VM installation. But does this apply to the preview version as well?
I'm trying to find a definitive link on the Microsoft website...

How I could go about doing this. Last year I bought a Windows 8 Pro upgrade disc we used to upgrade our machines from Windows 7 home Premium to 8 Pro. Is it possible for me to use that same upgrade product key for Windows 8 Pro on 8.1 so I could have a Pro version of 8.1? The computer I originally did the upgrade on I am no longer using and is there a way to deactivate the license on that one so it could be used on the new computer I bought? Also I just want the extra's of the Pro version so does it matter it is the license for Windows 8 even though the new computer uses 8.1?
