Does Win 8 also come in retail and volume channel versions?
How can I convert retail channel to volume (as I fear I have downloaded a retail version) from the torrent link in the Win 8 repository listed in MDL forum.
Can a lkink to volume version of win 8 be posted here (or PMed) to me?

I have three Laptops in office and we have windows 8 Pro x64 activated with same Volume License Key. Now I need Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and tried searching 8.1 in store but cant...then tried with windows 8 key and it says you cant use retail key so read in forums that I need windows 8.1 x64 Pro volume License iso file.
Is there any magnet or torrent link where I can download windows 8.1 x64 pro for VL installation? Also tell me if I would be able to activate 8.1 pro x64 VL iso with the existing VL key of windows 8 64bit pro.

I know you can activate a clean install of win 8.1 with a win 8 product key but you see, I don't have one - I only have the WMC upgrade key that got installed over it when the previous owner of my PC added the Windows Media Center feature (which I read was free once upon a time). You see I have a retail Windows 8.1_RTM_x86.iso disk image and I want to be able to do a clean install.

I have a machine that has an activated retail windows 8 that came from the upgrade offer.
I just downloaded the 8.1 RTM from technet and burned the ISO install media to a DVD.
Will it work to upgrade the retail windows 8 with the RTM DVD by simply doing a setup.exe from within windows 8?
Will it retain the original permanent retail key after the upgrade?
Also, I'm assuming that any additional changes to the 8.1 will come through online updates so it will get caught up to whatever is released to the general public?

how I may update my Windows 8 Pro computer to 8.1 and then to the 8.1 update, if possible.
It's a volume licensed copy of Windows and I have no access to these updates. From what I've read, I need an MSN (what ever it's called) subscription to have access to these updates. I've seen articles around the web with ways to update, such as this one William's Blog: How to upgrade Windows 8 volume license to Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store but I do not want to do anything illegal or mess up my computer.

I was wondering if there is a way to transfer a 32-bit Windows 8 Pro Upgrade license to a bootcamp partition in a 2012 Mac Mini without having to buy a new one. I bought Windows 8 for my laptop and the laptop will no longer be used. So is there a way I could maybe deactivate the license on my laptop, and reuse the same license on the Mac Mini?

I'm trying to find the official Microsoft licence agreement for Windows 8.1 Preview - any link?
I want to use Windows 8.1 Preview in a VM on a Windows 7 PC.
Normally for the full version of Windows 8, and I guess Windows 8.1 when the full version arrives, you'd need a separate licence for the VM installation. But does this apply to the preview version as well?
I'm trying to find a definitive link on the Microsoft website...

I bought a legitimate copy of Windows 8 Pro Upgrade version about a month ago. While doing a clean install on my desktop computer, I found out that you cannot do a clean install from an upgrade version of Windows. I figured out how to do a clean install of Windows by following the steps on this website: [URL] .....
When I open the Windows Store App, I can't find the option that lets me update to Windows 8.1. Is there anyway I can legitimately update my copy of Windows to Windows 8.1?

I got the Win 8 pro upgrade and since I am getting a nice refund for taxes I am buying an new motherboard cpu and ram.
What I would like to know is am I still going to be able to use the Upgrade on the new hardware? I can install win 7 first then do an upgrade if need be. Will I have to do something with the activation or what?
I am unsure of what is going to be required of me. Am I still legal with the upgrade install or will I have to buy an oem or retail?

I recently went through a ton of issues with my lenovo y510p laptop and since it didn't come with a recovery disc, I was forced to reinstall windows 8 through a recovery disc on a usb stick. However, the only one I was able to get was an "evaluation version" of windows, so I've lost my original version of windows 8 after the reinstall. Is there any way to find my old key so that I can upgrade? I've tried a key finder, but it only finds the evaluation key.
Would I have to contact Lenovo to see if they can give me my product key or is there an easier way?

I have a laptop that has win 8 but not the Pro version. And it apparently does not have Bitlocker on it.
I have the win 8 Pro upgrade software but i think its the full version which i bought for another pc.And the upgrading instructions on the outside of the box talks about upgrading from vista or xp only.I am running win 8.
The only reason I am wanting to upgrade to win 8 Pro is to have Bitlocker.
Is it not possible to install the win 8 Pro OS?
Or is there another way of obtaining Bitlocker?
Its an acer laptop.
The system info says:
The system type is a "x64 based-pc"
Celeron cpu 1017u 1.6 ghz,2 cores,2 logical processors,
Win 8 version is 6.2.9200 build 9200

How I could go about doing this. Last year I bought a Windows 8 Pro upgrade disc we used to upgrade our machines from Windows 7 home Premium to 8 Pro. Is it possible for me to use that same upgrade product key for Windows 8 Pro on 8.1 so I could have a Pro version of 8.1? The computer I originally did the upgrade on I am no longer using and is there a way to deactivate the license on that one so it could be used on the new computer I bought? Also I just want the extra's of the Pro version so does it matter it is the license for Windows 8 even though the new computer uses 8.1?

Will it be possible to boot Windows 8 from a GPT partition using BIOS (not UEFI)? I'll be using the 64bit version.
Technically, I know it's possible as I'm doing it with FreeBSD, many Linux distros etc. Using hybrid MBR/GPT, I've read others have Win7 booting off GPT partitons as all. I'd rather not go that route.

Let's say your computer comes with Windows 8 (not 8 Pro) preinstalled, using a SLIC and not a product key. Yu decide you hate the OEM crapware and want to do a clean reinstall. Bt you don't have reinstallation media, or the media includes the crapware.

Having previously upgraded to Windows 8 I restored the factory installation of Windows 7 prior to warranty repairs to my PC. Now that the repairs are satisfactorily completed what are my best options in upgrading again? On the one hand I could go ahead with the upgrade now or on the other should I wait until Microsoft have completed development of Windows 8.1?

I build my own desktop. I first had Windows Vista on it, which I bought on a DVD. I then skipped Windows 7 completely, but later upgraded to Windows 8 when Microsoft had a promotional period for it early in 2012 when it just came out.
Now I'm replacing the motherboard and also swapping the HDD to SSD, and I'm curious. Can I still install Windows 8 as an upgrade like I did before? And if yes, then how?

I have never dabbled in the installation or reinstallation of Windows 8 so far, but I am looking for information on how to re-install windows 8 onto a desktop computer that does not come with restore discs.
Now is it true that the CD-Key is stored on the BIOS? Or was that just a rumor that was floating around, I have never had true clarification on that.
If the answer is no, where would I find the CD-Key at that point?
Basically it is for a desktop computer that is no longer functioning and there were no restore discs created during original operation of the computer.
