Maintenance :: Unable To Delete Partition?
Sep 8, 2013Recently I bought a new Asus Netbook, it has free DOS OS, I have installed windows 8, there were 3 partioned and I selected one of the drive. The problem is my C Drive (Boot Drive) is 40GB, D Drive is 13 GB, remaining all spaces are allocated to E Drive which has DOS OS. In Disk management my E drive is showing Active System, Primary Partion. I wanted to resize my D and E Drive. I tried to delete my E Drive but getting error message like windows unable to delete E Drive. Is there any way to delete this drive.. I want to join my D and E after that I want to re partion 90 GB's 3 additional partition.

Unable To Unhide Or Delete A Folder Windows 8
Jul 10, 2013I was moving my default user folder locations, where I have managed to move 'My Pictures' and 'My Documents' successfully. however when I was moving Documents folder I made a mistake of selecting the whole 'e:' drive as the target location instead of 'e:download'. As I don't want the E: to be the target location I have reverted it back.
Now for some reasons I am not able to delete Downloads folder that I created manually in E: drive. That folder is hidden, it doesn't show even when I select the option to show hidden files and folders. However the files in that Download folder are showing up when I search them.
To open the 'Documents' properties I selected one of the file from the search list, right clicked and selected open file location. so finally when I saw the properties of the folder it says hidden, and it is not allowing me to uncheck it. I tried changing permissions of the folder but still no luck. I even used command prompt to delete that folder, but it says access denied.
All I now need is I want to delete the folder 'Download' in my E: drive. I am the admin of my windows 8 pc.

Apr 10, 2013There is a folder left over from an uninstalled product called "Symantec". When I attempt to delete this, I get the message "You require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this file". Clicking the "Try Again" button does nothing and the same message reappears.
I have tried to take ownership of the file through Properties > Security > Advanced, however, I get this error:
"An error occured while applying security information to (file path). Failed to enumerate objects in the contianer. Access is denied."
I have also tried to use an elevated command prompt to run the takeown command on this directory, however, get the "Access is denied." message for all files.

I tried to remove the Outlook.com email account using the instruction I found in How To Close & Delete Outlook.com Account I was unable to do so. When I got to the Close Microsoft Account section and pressed OK, it reminded me I needed to close any paid services associated with my Microsoft Account. I've no such services. Pressing OK again took me to the Account Summary page. There I could find no way to close the Outlook.com email account, just another Close Account that took me back to the previous step.
Windows 8 Hard Drive Crashed - Unable To Delete Files?
Oct 4, 2013 I have a TB drive and when I was trying to delete some files, it crashed. As a consequence, the recycle bin has some invalid information in it. If I try to perma-delete files in there, the system freezes. I try to restore files, it freezes. When I tried to restore files, it also asked me if I wanted to replace the files in the respective locations that it was restoring to, which to me means that the files are still there and its in some kind of limbo.
I'm sure this problem is at least somewhat related to the hybrid boot feature with the crashes. I dual boot with Linux Mint 15. I think that upon messing with some files on the TB drive and going back to Windows caused it to... well I'll say have a seizure. Now I've done chkdsks and it never seems to truly finish. It gets to the end, and sits there, and maybe even freeze or crash. But when I do a chkdsk I can usually access my files in Linux in read-only mode.
While, in Windows 8, I can still access everything perfectly fine. I can read, write, and do what I want normally so long as it doesn't involve anything with the recycle bin. Also, say I try to go to the files on the HDD that I tried to delete but are still there and delete them, it freezes crashes.
I've also disabled that hybrid boot feature and have attempted clean shutdowns and in some cases it would even freeze on shutdown. Also I've done both chkdsk /r and chkdsk /f with the only difference that one takes hours and the other doesn't.

Feb 4, 2014So i'm trying to delete this file i have in my downloads folder, which is a normal .avi file. however, this file is really broken, it wont delete. I suspect this file makes my folder not showing thumbnails and acting slow and sometimes wont show anything at all, just a loading bar thing.
i tried deleting with cmd prompt, while explorer.exe is off, but command prompt stops responding.
i tried searching the folder for viruses, finds nothing.
i tried downloading Unlocker to delete it, but ends up with unlocker stops responding.
i tried quarantine the file, it gets into quarantine in NOD32 but the file is also still in my download folder, and NOD stops responding.
i get no message at all trying to delete it, it's just that nothing at all happens.
What is wrong with this file?! It plays fine though, just like a normal .avi file. Is there anything else i can try? cmd prompt and NOD32 don't get the windows "has stopped working" message, they just stop responding to me clicking any button in NOD32, or writing new text in cmd prompt. i can exit them as normal.
Administrator Account - Cannot Delete EXE File
Feb 2, 2014Windows 8.1 ... My anti-virus program is Bitdefender Total Security 2013. It has detected a virus called "Adware.DomaIQ.I". It has infected a file named "7-zip.exe". The anti-virus cannot delete the virus for some reason. I tried to delete the exe but I get denied saying that I need permission from the administrator even though I'm in the administrator account. I have checked and the drive and even the infected file says all users have full control.

C:Users"username"AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsWebCache folder.
The file usually has a name similar to V10009C.log. When this file first appeared I opened it with notepad and it was a bunch of jibberish (i.e. REDIRECTURL ), but within all that gibberish I was able to note that it was showing files I had recently accessed (i.e., V i s i t e d : "username"@ f i l e : / / / C : / W i n d o w s / S y s t e m / N e w % 2 0 f o l d e r/filename.extension).
I was able to "securely" delete the file. However, a few days later I noticed a new file appeared with a similar name. When I looked through that file it seemed to have all the previous information from the previous file I deleted and information on files I had accessed since deleting the old file. What this file is and how it keeps adding information of files accessed? I really do not want to have this file reach some absurd file size as it seems to be retaining / recovering information even after deletion. Also, there is a file in the same folder called WebCacheV01.dat that has grown to 33 mb. Can't see its contents and I can't delete.

Unable To Get File History To Execute
May 14, 2013I'm unable get File History to execute. Windows 8 recognizes my external HD which I used to transfer my files from my desktop. It works normally otherwise. When I go to the Libraries page and select "History" button, I then select "configure FileHistory settings" in "Control Panel""File History is Off" and E:drive are displayed. I select "Turn On" and "Yes" to recommend drive to my homegroup. At this point I receive an error message "Could not enable FileHistory" and "The system cannot find the file specified". Folders named FileHistory, Data, and Configuration have been created on the external HD but they don't contain any files. Am I missing an executible file from Windows? If so, how can I get it back. My Toschiba Satellite didn't come with Windows 8 discs.

Unable To Edit Hosts File Due To Administrator Rights?
Jun 15, 2014I am getting error "Save failed - Please check if this file is opened in another program" when trying to edit the hosts file in Notepad++. This has only started happening after a fresh installation of Windows 8 on a new computer. My previous computer with Windows 8.1 was able to do it correctly without any errors. I am using only one account on both computers, but for some reason on the new computer, the UAC keeps getting in the way. I have lowered the UAC warnings all the way down but that hasn't worked. Is there another setting I'm missing?
Note that I don't want to right-click Notepad++ and choose "Run as administrator" every time I want to edit a system file. I see that as a waste of time and an unnecessary step since I am already using an administrator account. I didn't have to do that on the old computer.
Setup Installation :: Unable To Copy Windows 8 ISO File On USB
Apr 17, 2014Currently running WinXP, meets all requirement for Windows 8. However, when I try to copy the ISO file to USB using Win7 DVD download tool to create a bootable USB device, the USB I'm trying to copy it to will not show up in the list of "Devices to Copy In".
I have tried this several times with 2 different USB drives, both 8GB, one with more than 4GB free and the another is completely empty. They both work perfectly well, but when I reach the screen with the list of devices to copy the ISO file on to (Step 3 of 4, Win7 USB/DVD Download Tool) they don't show up on the list despite re-inserting them and refreshing a couple hundred times. The only removable device that does show up is the Floppy Disk.
I am using the DVD is not an option, since my DVD player crashed last week and I don't have the time to get it fixed right now, and I'd really like to get Windows 8 installed as soon as possible.

The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, Error code: 0x80070570. I have looked into the usb stick but install.wim is just there. And I did a disk chek in wintoflash and it found this:

Oct 24, 2013The problem is that I can't install the .NET Framework 3.5 on my Windows 8.1 because when i try to install it, appears:

Can't find the specified file. Error: 0x80070002"
The same if i download the dotNetFx35setup.exe setup from Microsoft Website. I tried also in other 2 ways suggested here (Installazione di .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8) :
- In Control Panel -> Programs -> Enable or disable Windows Features -> .NET Framework 3.5 but i receive the same error
- I insert Windows 8 DVD in the D: Unit and i type in the prompt command this code:

But I receive this error:

System File Check - Corrupt Files Found But Unable To Repair
Aug 20, 2014My laptop is running ok but I have noticed that certain programs have been taking a lot longer than usual to install/update (e.g. iTunes) but they always do. Then the last few days AVG Antivirus has been wanting to auto-update the software (not just the virus definitions) but each time it would freeze during the ''configuring'' step and subsequently cause every other program running to freeze and stop the opening of any other program - although I could still move the cursor so not a complete freeze if that makes sense.
So today I removed AVG with the removal tool and tried to do a fresh install but now I get a failure message immediately telling me ''MSI Engine: failed to initialize the package''.
How to go about fixing this and ran system file check which said corrupt files were found but it was unable to repair some of them. Here is the log:

May 29, 2014The attrib +s +h command that is used to make a file a system and hidden file is no longer working. When i try to use the command on a folder, the folder just shows up as a normal hidden folder which can be easily viewed using show hidden items in view option. It looks as if every system file is not recognizing itself as a system file.
Also every folder in my system has appeared a desktop.ini and thumbs.db folder.
I am running Windows 8- 64 bit

Feb 3, 2014How to make the 'Libraries' folder structure appear when doing a file open file save. In both case I can see the folders labeled Desktop, Documents, Downloads, etc. but I cannot see the Libraries folder.
Is this possible? How?
