View 9 RepliesThis is a 64-bit system running 8.1 Pro. I am unable to preview any files (.doc, .docx, .txt, .pdf, .xlsx, etc.) in the preview pane of File/Windows Explorer. I can preview pictures, but that's it. The only thing that I've been able to find online are uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails" and using the Adobe Reader preview handler x64 fixer tool. Neither of these solutions have worked. What else can I try?

I've tried cleaning the old thumbnails using Disk Cleanup, but no work. Trying to untick the "Always show icon, not thumnail" in Folder Options, don't work too. Here is the screenshot:

When I try to open up my pictures folder, I can not see any previews of photos and I have to go through an entire folder using the Microsoft Picture viewer to view each and every picture then memorize the photo number in order to attach it to any e-mail or to insert it into my Outlook 2007. Is there an incompatibility issue here ? 2007 vs Windows 8.1 ?? What can I do to rectify the situation ?
I made the mistake of including family photos in the lock screen choices.
I am trying to remove family pictures from the row at the lock screen preview. I don't want to change a lot of other things along the way if possible. I was hoping I could just right click the 3 family pictures and remove them but they won't go. The piano is the one I see and that is alright but the 3 to the right are the ones I want to clear. Is there a way to do this?
I tried to make some animated pictures using photoshop [just trying and i know it's not good at all]
The problem here is that it works well when i view it using google chrome but it shows only one frame i.e no animation in windows picture and fax viewer. I remember it was working well in my old PC which run XP.
Surely I'm not the only one to have a game I'm about to watch completely ruined by seeing a picture preview of a winning player being interviewed in the post game. I would think there would be an army of ticked off sports fans in an uproar to fix this but surprisingly Google search has yielded nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI went from XP to Windows 8 Pro. With XP, a pictures folder allowed the icons to represent a small version of the picture; the filmstrip option was a nice bonus.
With Windows 8, the icon, no matter what size, has a generic look to it--same for all the pictures. I enable Preview Pane, and the same thing happens. No preview of the picture on the preview pane, just a much larger generic icon.
I see screen views on the web of it actually working, but I can't get it to.
I was never given the option to upgrade to 8.1 official from the preview. Now the preview has just told me it expired and will reboot itself every couple hours. I'm in the middle of a huge project right now. I was actually planning to buy a new computer in the next week
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm not getting any thumbnails showing for any of my pictures, .jpg, .bmp, .png, etc. I tried deleting C:UsersxxxxxxxxAppDataLocalIconCache.db then rebooting, no change.
I suspect I turned something off to see how but forgot to turn it back on. How do I get thumbnails to show for my pictures again.
I looked through gpedit but did not notice anything. This is what I'm seeing. I can change the icon that shows by changing the default program.
I'm trying to get rid of the small preview windows that apear above the taskbar in Win 8. I edited the registry at HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced and added both a DisablePreviewWindow and DisablePreviewDesktop value and set them to 0x01. Still, the windows appear. UAC is entirely disabled.

I got it back, but now when I click on the Pictures folder inside the libraries folder, all the data in my HDD comes up. Whatever I did, I somehow made my D: drive to the format of my pictures folder.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft Talks About How Windows 8.1 Preview Will Work
On x86-based Windows systems, both Windows Store/Metro-Style and Desktop apps will need to be reinstalled.
Because some folks I talk to these days are mixing "apps" and "programs" into the same bag, I want to clarify something ... per the above quote, if I
1) install 8.1 preview; then,
2) install a program (not an app from the app store), like Photoshop ...
Will I have to re-install that program once I update to 8.1 RTM? Or, are the re-installs associated only with apps downloaded from the store?
The Pictures Library in the Photos app/tile in Windows 8 doesn't offer me the option to choose my own pictures folders as it does my video ones. It only offers me to create a folder (I don't know where) or to import pictures from a camera or a cell phone, I suppose.
Is there any way for me to pick my own pictures folders instead of having to move my pictures into a Windows default folder only to have to move them again (or lose them)
My laptop running 8.1 Pro Preview continuously goes in and out of hibernation every 3 minutes or so. Occassionally a reboot with solve the problem, but if I step away and the screen saver comes on the hibernate cycle starts up again.

Okay, so I have been surfing the internet and it is said you can change your Microsoft Games avatar through the Games app....They said it works in 8 and 8.1. Yet I have not found the button "Edit Avatar" in the Games app.
Here is a screenshot of where I was told I would be :
How to change my avatar, and my picture!
I just recently upgraded to 8.1, and I noticed something minor is missing, or I just can't figure it out.
When I was using Win7, I would occasionally use the URL of a picture to upload it to Facebook, instead of saving it to my computer and uploading it like that. In Win8, there's no more familiar "file select" box, and nowhere to paste the url to the image
(Other than the obvious "save it to your harddrive which I don't want to do.)
I have ten folders in my Pictures library all full of pictures, and they get cycled on the Live tile for the Photos app, and also show up under "Pictures" once you've opened the Photos app.
Is there a way to hide a folder so it's physically in my UsersLibrariesPictures location, but WON'T show up under the Photos app?
Within the document libraries there appear to be a number of default folders For Example
PICTURES
My Pictures
Public Pictures
Whilst transferring all my picture files across from my old laptop I seem to have deleted the public pictures folder within my personal library. After a bid of searching around I have found the Public Pictures folder under the "public" area of the C: directory. It appears to only be missing only in my profile account (other profiles are also unaffected).
My question is how do I restore this folder? If I copy and paste the source public pictures folder I appear to be making a complete copy, rather than a shortcut type link to the files.
