I have spoken with windows support... I used to have an option on my taskbar to adjust the screen size. They have no idea what to do. I can go through my computer and set the screen size to 100 % but if I am tapping while on the net it changes dramatically and I don't know how to control the overall size. It seems my upgrade to 8.1 has created more problems

View 6 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago my start screen was suddenly different. Instead of the apps being visible across the whole screen it has been shrunk to fit only half the screen. I've had a kitten stepping all over my keyboard and this may or may not have to do with it. I've looked for a menu option to change it but can't find anything. I've tried just zooming out but it doesn't affect it. How can I make the start screen how it originally was?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I leave my computer for an extended period of time, after returning the screen is sometimes blank. I know that everything is still on, the screen just won't come on. I know things are still running in the background because when I restart my computer by pressing the reset button (the only thing that works), when I boot back into Windows a few seconds later and relog into an IRC channel I was in before, my old nick gets ghosted. If my old nick was still in IRC this means my computer was still on and working fine until I hit the reset button - screen being blank was the only issue.
I've tried multiple things, such as hitting the "wake" button on the keyboard. I've checked my power settings carefully, modified them, but still no luck. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to this behavior, it either happens or it doesn't, and the time period it takes for it to happen seems random. Browser session auto-recovery.

i have a smal probleem with My new Acer tablet. The brightness of the screen randomly changes. i did some googling and i learned the tablet is able to auto adjust the beightness. I found a sensor on My tablet and did some testing by shining on it with a pocket torch and saw with more light the brightness increased. How i want it off. I Tried switching off the adaptive settings bit it didn' t work..

I have a HP envy m6 notebook and when im viewing websites the brightness will keep randomly changing. Why is this and how do I stop it? I've gone into the settings and turned off the 'enable adaptive brightness' but it still seems to keep happening.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have three external hard drives, 2 x 750GB USB3 Western Digital, and 1 x 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black spinner.
All three have identical data on them, right down to the last byte ... both for the size of data itself; and the size of data on disk.
This is true whether they are opened on Windows 8 or Windows 7 machine. Yet when I open all three of them simultaneously on the machine that had Windows 8, but now has Windows 8.1 ... while they all show the size of data, the size of data on disk is different for each one! Despite the fact that all three still show identical data on disk on Windows 7. Or even on Windows 8 if I reinstall it on the machine which 8.1 is installed on.
It is important because having the data on disk the same confirms they are exactly identical.
I increased the custom sizing to 500 and now I can't undo it, and I can't do anything at all actually. I do not have a system restore point either, my Windows 8 doesn't let me for some reason... this is a serious glitch I cannot believe there is nothing to prevent this.
I did have a system restore, got to it by holding Shift when selecting restart. I was nervous about using it but it said none of my documents would be erased so I guess it worked out. Microsoft owes me a tablet!!! Seriously though, quit making new products until you can actually build one that works properly.
as you know in start screen when we right click on the applications we can see larg or small i pin some of my programs to start screen but when i right click on them i can not see this option. how can i access this?

But I can't drag a windows from monitor 1 to monitor 2. I did remember to reduce the size of the window, but while it moves over to the side of monitor 1, it does not appear on monitor 2.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running an old touch screen in a mobile environment. And while I see great benefit to using Windows 8.1, I'm having issues with getting it to cooperate with my older LCD touch screen. If I could increase the size of the corner gesture, it would solve most my problems.
I've already increased the MouseCornerClipLength in the registry to 20, which is the max this will go. My screen just doesn't like the small tolerance Microsoft has given to bring up these gestures. I can cheat the calibration to make it work, but then it throws off the whole screen.
I am struggling to get the right size page like A4 when printing specific stuff, I just don't seem to get it right, what I want to do is = put some text on a page and put some pictures onto the same page as I am using a special paper and don't want to make any more mistakes as it is expensive ive printed previously on normal A4 plain paper i have wasted tons so i want text, pictures together on the same sheet not spread all over the sheet. I don't want to change the display size to 100%, I just wanna make the icon sizes smaller. Is there any solution?

I am using Windows 8.1. Recently, when viewing a graphic on the monitor, I accidentally hit one or more keys on the lower part of the keyboard. The image immediately re-sized to a smaller size. Even when closing and re-opening the program, I am confronted with the reduced-scale image size. This has not affected any other software that I have on the computer, however.

I want to use the 3rd ssd for the Windows 8 page file and PhotoShop's swap file. My question is, how much of that should be used for each. Seems like the size of the tabs at bottom (with programs open) are quite large.
In my pictures folder, as well as all other folders that I have checked, the option to change the icon size larger or smaller is grayed out.
Solutions I have found use the options to change settings, however, my options are also grayed out so I can't.

My DPI is currently on 250% and I like it this way. The problem is that the elements of my windows seem too big now and take up too much space.
If you open "My PC", the bar with "Name", "Type", "Available Space", etc is too thick. Is there no way to decrease the size of this bar and perhaps strip the entire layout like in good old XP? I don't need Groups/Categories twirl down menu, my current directory address/location, back&forth buttons, etc. I just need it simple and compact.

I'm working with an HP ElitePad, a 10" Win 8 tablet with no mouse/keyboard. One of the pieces of software I'm working with is only accessable via right-clicking (press and hold) its icon in the taskbar and selecting to launch it.
The issue I'm having is that the icons are very small and I need to get this working for an end user who would endlessly be missing it.
How to increase the size of the icons? All I can find so far is the checkmark in the options to make them smaller.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe main reason I want to use WMP is because it has playcounts, so after I have copied some media files I can see what hasn't been watched/listened too (going through my dvd collection and converting to digital) ....
A lot of files are on my old machine (Mac) so I copy them over and correct the metadata to make sure it's correct, few hours later I look at wmp shows the file size as 0 bytes (actual file is correct in explorer) ....
Is there anything I can do to avoid this (rebuilding library loses playcounts so don't want to keep doing this)? Or should I totally ignore playcounts and use the new metro style video app?
If I wanted to change all my icons in my computer to "large Icons" it doesn't appear to apply to all my other icons in different folders, isn't there an option where you can turn all your icons to large small or detailed ?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIt was very upsetting in case of Windows 7 the system explorer was unable to retrive folder size information. It was possible to preview file size in detail view but not folder size.
How is this feature in case of Winodws 8 explorer. Is the appropriate hook exposed in API or is it still missing as it was in case of Winodws 7?
