This "Save As..." dialog window is mainly used to located files to import to a program.
Here we have the default size:
I want it to automatically fit all column size or have a preset of how large I want it to stretch by default:
*notice the difference with the 2nd one where there is no scroll bar. So everything's in view.
I just downloaded the windows 8.1 preview and am baffled. The picture does not fill out my monitor. It recognizes my monitor, the resolution settings are correct but all I get is a 22" screen in a 24" monitor.

But I can't drag a windows from monitor 1 to monitor 2. I did remember to reduce the size of the window, but while it moves over to the side of monitor 1, it does not appear on monitor 2.

If you open "My PC", the bar with "Name", "Type", "Available Space", etc is too thick. Is there no way to decrease the size of this bar and perhaps strip the entire layout like in good old XP? I don't need Groups/Categories twirl down menu, my current directory address/location, back&forth buttons, etc. I just need it simple and compact.

No matter how many times I go to 'View' settings, every time I choose a new window (i.e. opening a folder) I am always met with a small-format window rather than a full-screen, full-size one. I also am met with random lists instead of 'medium-sized icons', which I have opted for and chosen as default in 'view'. Have I missed a colossally simple tick in a box?

If it can not be done in Explorer how do I replace Explorer with a replacement file manager.
Trying to address a different problem, Gigabyte suggested that I update the BIOS on my GA-F2A88X-D3H mb from F1 to F3. In addition to not solving the problem, after I updated the image displayed on my monitor--Dell 2209 WA--doesn't fill the screen. Everything's there, but the image stops about 3.5" short of the right bezel.
Using AMD's Catalyst Control Center hasn't worked. I've read some posts about a similar--the same?--issue that suggest changing a setting in "My Flat Panel Display." But I see only "My VGA Display," with no option for over- or under-scanning.
The image does display fully on rebooting--I see the Gigabyte UltraDurable logo, and on entering BIOS instead of going into Windows 8.1 (64-bit).
Since first writing this, I've tried the monitor's menu and other buttons without success.
Is it worth getting a DVI-D to DVI-D cable to connect digitally, in place of the current VGA connection?
Does it signify that the monitor reports a screen resolution exceeding its supposed maximum of 1680 x 1050, namely, 1920 x 1080? In both Windows screen resolution and AMD CCC, I'm unable to set a resolution above 1680 x 1050, and setting lower resolutions doesn't work.
I have to go to task manager and close it down and open it again but I can't get any work done as I can't save anything. I just installed the windows 8.1 patch two days ago.

View 9 Replies View RelatedDesperate to avoid using the many quite difficult shutdown options in Windows 8, i tried an old trick i used to do on computers i wanted to shutdown from remote desktop. This Works like a charm i Windows 8 too..
1. Create a file using notepad called something like: Shutdown.js
2. Put this in the file: (new ActiveXObject("Shell.Application")).ShutdownWindows();
3. Save the file somewhere you like..
4. Now you can put shortcuts where you want them - and change icons to the nifty shutdown one in system32
This shortcut will bring up the shutdown dialog box, with all functions instead of just closing Windows directly.
Every morning at 5am, I receive the Open With dialog, and it doesn't tell me
a) what process is trying to open,
b) what type of file it's trying to open.
No matter what I try with, I receive an error saying "Cannot find C:Program" and sometimes has an extension if the app auto-applies (such as notepad, or MS Paint).
I've checked my logs, and even created a view of all logs within the last 24 hours, but I'm not seeing anything to identify anything.
At 5:01:19 for the past few days I see event ID 4624, immediately followed by 4634. Best I can tell by the log, and event IDs are windows is re-authenticating a mounted network drive.
I am having a problem where some documents that used to be on a drive appear in my Run menu dropdown/autocomplete in Windows 8.1 even though I never I never accessed them from the Run menu and the drive in question is no longer even mounted. I searched far and wide and tried many things, but none worked:
Clearing the two "Store x..." checkboxes in "Jump Lists" in the Taskbar and Navigation properties pane has no effect. It does clear my primary history, but the offending entries remain.RunMRU in the registry (generally offered as a tip for clearing/editing the history) does not contain these entries. Removing the whole RunMRU subtree acts more or less the same as #1.Oddly, when I type "X" or "X:" in the run box, but if I change it to "X:" (or enter any more of the relevant path, e.g., "X:document.txt") they no longer show up even though they theoretically match.I have searched the registry pretty thoroughly, including using third-party tools to search binary data.
I found one or two hits, but not all of the relevant data, in ".../ComDLg32/OpenSavePidMRU" and a "RecentDocs" area, but removing them had no effect. Note that some of these hits were plain text and others were binary with null values in between every letter.I've done searches of all the files under C:WINDOWS, with no hits.I have confirmed that the offending drive/directories are not set to index using the Windows Indexing Service, even when the drive is mounted. I have also reset the Windows Index, and they still appear when the index is empty.One of these directories appeared under "recent places" in Explorer. Removing it had no effect.Remounting and than unmounting the original drive has no effect, even though some of the files that appear in the Run dropdown no longer exist.

When I use Explorer on Windows 8.1 to copy multiple FLAC files to a folder on the SD card of my Nokia Lumia 625 (running on Windows Phone 8.1) via USB, a dialog window pops up in Explorer, asking me to choose between converting and just copying. If I choose to just copy, a progress bar appears, and it always gets stuck at the end of the first file transfer so I have to cancel or close the progress window, and, as a result, only the first file is transferred. If I copy a single FLAC file instead of multiple ones, the same thing happens at the end of the file transfer. So I am forced to copy the files one at a time, and I have to close the popup window for each of them. Is there any way to solve this?

I prefer using the run dialog usually to access apps because I could do without extra effort to merely SEARCH for apps. However I can't use it to run apps as admin (at least I've forgotten the line I might have used in vista and 7). Can the aforementioned box be accessed directly?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi was able to get as far as having the px load from camera to computer & somehow all px got installed into the computer but only temporarily ! While camera was still attached to tower, I clicked on Control Panel/Computer/then the list of programs in computer and then i saw the name of the camera (cannon Power Shot) ...then Cannon 100, clicked on that and then saw all px - was able to individually email some to myself but when i detached cable from tower to camera and went back to ''Computer'' found Cannon 100 but no px were there -so obviously i wasn't able to save them.....but strangely enough 3 of the downloaded px were in the ''DCIM' folder (whatever that term means)...but i don't know how those 3 got there ! So i got far enough to download & 'view' but don't know how to ''save'' the px in the computer for future viewing without the necessity of attaching the camera....besides i'd like to delete some px from the camera once saved into the computer.....I'm so used to XP
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm into photography and when I take pictures and put them on my computer they usually have the same name as several other pictures I've taken. In Windows 7 when I would transfer files from my memory card to my computer it would give me the option to 1) Skip saving the duplicate files, 2) save over them, and 3) keep both files and then it would rename the new file with a number after it (such as DCIM 102 and DCIM 102 (2))
In Windows 8 it seems like I only have the options to 1) skip saving the duplicate and 2) save over the duplicate....since I want to keep both files, what do I do?
Most of my pictures aren't really themed or anything, so there's not really a need for keywords, like "Birthday blah blah" or "flowers yada yada" etc. Anything similar to the "save both files"...?
In the past whenever I would press my Win-key and PrtScr-key, it would make a copy of my desktop and automatically save it to a folder. I'm not trying to copy it to the clipboard, Win has a feature that will allow you to make a copy of the sreenshot and save it to a particular folder called Screenshot.

Not sure if my image insert worked, but here's what I'm trying to get to work again. I am aware I can use the Sniping Tool, but it does not work the same.
I am using time freeze program and at same time I am using an free vpn service which pasword changes per week. The time free program has an option to keep some folder and files non freez while freezing active. For instance while freezing active user can select desktop to not be frozen by this way after restart pc will not delete changes done on desktop. My main problem is that after a week later I have to defreez the pc type the pasword and refreez the pc. If I know where the pasword of vpn kept I will able to overcome on this problem.
There is a location with path %userprofile%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftNetworkCo nnectionsPbk that contain vpn configurations except user name and password. I need the location that store user name and password.
How to change the "Save As" directories in Libraries.
Basically, i have 2 drives running on my laptop being :
- C Drive: SSD ~ i want this to store all my system information + very frequently used programs.
- D Drive: HDD ~ to store
* My Documents,
* My Pictures,
* My Videos,
* My Music, +
* Games + etc.
The problem now is that all the directories above are pointing to C Drive as their default save location. How to change this so that by default, all the files above will show "Save As" in D Drive?
I'm running Win 8.1 with IE 11 and for some reason, my homepage started to show up a about:blank. I go to Internet Options to fix this (MSN.com) and hit Apply. It looks like the change is made, but when I close the Options window and reopen it, the about:blank page shows up again in the homepage URL field. The same problem occurs if I simply close and reopen the browser. Rebooting didn't work and I got an error message that System Restore couldn't do a restore for my last restore point for some reason.
How do get the browser to save my homepage URL? Can I re-install IE 11 if there is no other option?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been having some major trouble with all of my programs. At first I thought it was just with my Adobe Creative suite, but then I noticed it was happening on my Office Suite. Then on firefox, IE, etc.
Every time I open up the window to save or open a file from a specific directory, the program crashes. Resetting my computer works for a while but after a few hours, it goes back to crashing all my programs. I'm getting very desperate as I have some looming deadlines and this is really affecting my work.
I've tried 'refreshing' my system and it says my drive is locked...
I've tried restoring a backup but get an error...
I've tried formatting my system and it says a partition is missing...
I'm on a new laptop running Windows 8 Pro, and I'm running into permission issues. I just created an icon (using Axialis Icon workshop), and tried to save it to a folder which I myself created. But I got this message:

Would you like to save in the My Pictures folder instead? No, I wouldn't like to save in My Pictures. I never use it. How can I get permission to save to the folder I want? I'm a sole user; I'm a member of administrators; I've tried (unsuccessfully so far) to give myself permission to run all programs without being nagged.
I suspect that taking ownership of the C:Program Files might do the trick, but it seems like an extreme measure. Should I simply follow the steps in Brink's tutorial 'How to Allow or Deny Access Permissions to Users and Groups in Windows 8'?
I have a fairly new HP Pavilion Ultrabook 14-b011tx with windows 8. In the last few days I have started to have a problem if I tried to right-click on a picture in IE and use "save as" I get error 8007ffff. If I try to save the whole page I get an error that says unable to save webpage with no further explanation.
I have also noticed the file open/save dialogue will not appear in some programs - they just hang.
Now every time launching an old program (i.e. The Simpsons Hit & Run) it loads veeeery slow and I have to always manually set the affinity to two CPU's instead of four and then program runs faster, especially the load time, it loads waaay quicker.
So how do I set the affinity and it always stays like it, even after restart.
