Network / Sharing :: Laptop Says Limited Or No Connectivity
Aug 18, 2014
I have a lenovo thinkpad edge E520 running on Windows 8. I have used this computer to connect to internet before but has all the sudden stopped working. I have tried connecting using a ethernet cable and also wifi but it continues to say limited access. I have tried updating the drivers and have also tried restoring the laptop to a later date but neither worked. I know my internet is working because I use the internet on my boyfriends laptop and also have playstation 3 and xbox 360 hooked up to my internet.
I purchased a new Windows 8, Inspiron 15 7000 series - 7537 last December. I had been using a router at a hotel for the time, and it worked correctly. When I arrived home, I had a Belkin router, and i experienced network issues in that i could not connect to the wifi. I could connect with Ethernet cable. The problem was fixed through customer support eventually, but I now have a new Comcast router, and i'm experiencing what appears to be the same or a similar issue. I can access the internet fine by wire. With wifi, it says i have access to the internet over the internet icon in the bottom right, but i cannot access webpages. I can use skype, and communicate through it.
Here is the result from the ipconfig /all :
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200] (c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

I really need the wifi on this router working for this laptop. Let me note that it works on other laptops, so it should be an issue with hardware or settings on this laptop.
I have problem wit limited wireless connectivity on my laptop (Samsung) but also on my iPhone 4 and my wife`s LG optimus 5 duo all at the same time. I changed yesterday my router speedport which performed wireless connectivity problems, with a same one- and the problem is actually the same. For every 30 minutes I have limited access on my laptop, iPhone 4 and LG 5. If i restart the router it is OK for a while, and then again the same story. Someone told me to switch off wireless option on both phones, which made connectivity normal on my Samsung laptop.
I repeated, I changed two routers and the problem persists.
I'm trying to connect to a public open hotspot on my desktop that requires authentication by a web browser. I'm currently getting limited connectivity and I am not prompted that extra information is required (Like I am on this windows 7 laptop)
The windows8 drivers on my usb wireless adapter are all up to date. Troubleshooting says that I have a DNS problem, that the address doesn't exist. I've it with automatic and manual 1st 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 I've also tried disabling ipv6. It's so easy to connect on any other device, first issues I've had with this wi-fi, so It's safe to say it's a issue my end.
After receiving a new laptop several months ago I began experiencing wi-fi disconnection issues at times the indicator on the system tray indicates limited connectivity, that's when I know that I am about to lose the connection I use windows 8.1 so when clicking on the wi-fi signal strength indicator in the system tray the network status dialogue slide's in from the right of the screen where I pre-empt the drop off by switching the wi-fi off & on again.
Computer is acer aspire e series with a Broadcom 802.11n Wireless adapter.
I recently did an upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit to Windows 8 Pro 32 Bit. I am been experiencing an issue with my wifi connectivity only on my Windows 8 Laptop (Limited Connectivity)
Apart from that the Wifi works perfectly with my Windows 7, and other mobile platforms etc. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and the problem still persist. I've got a Acer Travelmate 5742G
This is my Wifi Troubleshooting Report:

I am currently having serious issues connecting my windows 8 desktop to wireless internet. It runs fine when hardwired in and I have tried to reinstall drivers I have run programs ensuring me they are all up to date. The computer is a HP Pavilion m8430f. The router is a Verizon router and I believe the company that makes it is actiontec m142wr.
I turned it on and I could not connect to the PUBLIC WIFI network that I usually connect to when I'm out. Then I tried connecting to other networks and they all just had a little piece of garbage icon on the wireless symbol.
A yellow alert sign.
I restarted my computer about 10 times, went into my device manager, used windows troubleshooting, uninstalled and rolled back my Intel Centro Wireless(M)2230 wireless driver. Nothing will work. I can`t really take a screenshot of my ip config /all.
Recently I got a new laptop installed with windows 8. When I try to join any locally created ad hoc network(created from another laptop loaded with widows 7) to play multiplayer games(no internet connection involved) it shows limited connectivity instead of connected. when I inspected the wireless properties, I noted that my laptop sends packet but not receiving anything in return. so I tried to give ipv4 address manually rather than acquiring automatically. now my laptop both seds and receives data, but still it shows limited connectivity. I couldn't join the game.
I have a problem that when I joined my new tablet to the network it connects normally but it has some issues. It says that I am connected with limited connectivity. Also when doing an ipconfig /all it says that the DNS Server is 127.0.0.1 and there are no DNS Servers on the device. What could have happened is that along time ago there was a DC named exactly like my new device.
I renamed the device and still I am experiencing the same issues.
Another weird thing is that I can browse the internet easily but then when for example I go and log in to Skydrive it says that I do not have an internet connection.
I recently got a data plan for my HTC One S. The wireless hotspot that came with it will work on my family's iPods, iPad, and our family laptop, but not on my Toshiba laptop with Windows 8. I have tried my dad's iPhone's wireless hotspot, and it works on my laptop. When I try my hotspot, my laptop will connect to it, but it will only give me limited access, meaning that no pages on the internet will load. What may be wrong with my laptop or phone?
My Windows 8 laptop is having some WiFi connection issues.
Basically what happens is that every 5-20 minutes I cannot access the internet on browsers and the wifi connection is listed as "Limited".
The laptop: ASUS Vivobook S200E
The WiFi: Sky wireless router (no idea about model, it's almost two years old) But what I will say is that my Windows 7 laptop never skips a beat on this network, nor does my wife's Mac, nor do our 2 Android tablets, the iPad, the iPhone, the Android phone, and various devices that our friends connect when they come round. Literally no other device has any problems on this network, so I know (by the process of elimination) the Windows 8 laptop is the one with the problem.
In order to fix the issue I have to disconnect from the network, wait about 30 sec and reconnect again.
Last night my wife's laptop couldn't connect to the internet. Error message was DNS servers not responding. I unplug power cables and Ethernet cables from cable modem and router (WRT54GL DD-WRT). That didn't seem to work. Today, she was able to get on certain text heavy websites. The WiFi icon said that she had internet access, but still very limited access and slow. I try DNS Release from router's setup page and DNS Renew. I also tried to release and renew through command prompt, but nothing has worked. I can get full access if I bypass the router and connect to my Desktop. Is my router dieing?
Here is my Desktop's ipconfig /all when connected to the router:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200] (c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
I recently Installed Windows 8 on my system, After finding my net speeds really slow i tried re-installing my wired adapter with latest drivers but the problem is still there. When i check my Wired Network connection status it says IPV6 Connectivity : No Internet Access.but IPV4 connectivity:internet access.
Now that I've upgraded to Win 8.1 my computer looses network connectivity several times a day. I can't even ping other devices on my local network. Rebooting the computer makes the problem go away (for a while). Its this computer running 8.1, none of the other computers on the network (running Win 7 or android) have the problem at the time this computer can't connect.
This is not good! If there's a way to refresh the network connection (some control panel function) that would be a not-very-good work around. Other than that it may be time to go back to Win 7.
I have a PC and a tablet, both of which have Windows 8.1 installed, and are regularly updated. I prefer using the wireless connection on my PC, although I do have an active wired connection. Is there a setting somewhere that disables the wired connection automatically when the wireless is active, and also switches back to wired if the wireless disconnects? I have looked into Group Policy Editor at the wireless and wired LAN settings under Network Connections, but don't see any setting to do this automatically.
I am having Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 Laptop, which was bought in September'2013. Since than I am facing problems of my wifi networks which has really got worsened in last few days. The main problem is received and failed connectivity while wifi is connected. It also first connects but than starts showing things like connecting, limited, connected and suddenly the bar shows the network is lost.
New HP Pavilion 14 Touch w/ Windows 8.1. (purchased directly from HP) Intel Core i5 1.7GHz/2.4GHz, 64-bit Broadcom 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi adapter Wireless Router: Arris TG862G Router.
My laptop was able to connect to my home router in the initial setup of the computer, but within about 1-2 hours I was disconnected entirely. A day passed and I was able to reconnect, but at noticeably slower internet speed. This lasted for about a day until, once again, it disconnected entirely this evening. Any attempt to reconnect is met with, "Can't connect to network".
For about a week now, my computer has had intermittent internet access. It'll work anywhere from about 10 seconds to 45 minutes or so before cutting out. When it disconnects, it usually corrects itself within the next minute or so, or disconnecting/reconnecting to the network, running the troubleshooter, or turning on/off wifi will correct the issue slightly quicker.
When running the troubleshooter, I've seen about every error it has. Usually "Default gateway is unavailable." Sometimes an IP error, sometimes "network cable is unplugged," sometimes it'll tell me I have a router or modem error, or to contact my ISP. It varies. I've seen up to 3 errors at once, and then the next time the Troubleshooter runs it'll give me another entirely. The network itself is fine. A number of other devices function consistently throughout the day as my PC has issues. This PC worked on this current network for about 3 weeks prior to failing.
Normally, it thinks it's connected. Sometimes it shows the yellow symbol in the bar and says no internet access. Usually depends on how long it cuts out for.
On an HP Touchscreen laptop AMD A10-5745M APU processor Windows 8.1, 64 bit Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter Security on the wireless network is WPA2-Personal with AES encryption
I've checked for viruses (none), refreshed the PC (not a full restore, but the one that does not remove files, just programs and settings), done a couple things in command prompt, and updated the driver.
I am using Windows 8 Professional. I am using a Dell XPS 1510 and am using a PCI Express Realtek PCIe GBE Family Expresscard.
I have already downloaded the latest driver from Realtek from 09/26/12. I have ran Windows Updates. No matter what the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Local Connection loses internet connection.
This card worked fine for months in Windows 7 Pro. The card works fine in Windows 8 Safe Mode. However, when logged into Windows 8 in normal mode, the card will allow and have internet connection for 1 min 12 secs to 1 min 32 secs, at which point the internet connection drops. The wifi and internal NIC (10/100) connection work fine. I've changed the NIC binding order. I've disabled the internal NIC, and Bluetooth (just in case) in the BIOS. I've tried uninstalling the WiFi to force using the Realtek PCIe GBE Family card.
I have ran procmon in order to try to figure out what if any application runs within the 1 min 32 sec timeframe that may interrupt the Realtek PCIe GBE Family card and have uninstalled any suspected applications. I've tried disabling services one at a time to see if it makes a difference.
I have tried DHCP and Static IP addresses.
The problem seems to be something within Windows 8. Something with Windows 8 disables the Realtek PCIe GBE Family internet connectivity. I've tried everything to keep the connection alive, internet works fine, I get perfect gigabit level speeds up until the 1 min 12 secs to 1 min 32 secs then all I get is no network connectivity.
The Windows 8 Troubleshooter is useless. Even though it is setup with static IP it says it can't find the default gateway. The issue is not with the router, somehow not being compatible with Windows 8 or something else. The card worked fine with the same router in Windows 7 and the internal NIC card works with the router in Windows 8 so its not that the router has problems with Windows 8.
I've also already disabled the "Allow the computer to turn off this device" option in the cards Power Management tab (first thing I tried). I've set the Power Management options on the laptop to be set to Maximum Performance.
Everything else with the laptop in Windows 8 seems fine, only this PCI express card that enables gigabit connection is failing. Don't want to use the slower WiFi or 10/100 connection those are too slow for what I need.
I just bought a Lenovo Y500 a couple of days ago and it came with a pre-installed Windows 8 everything seems working fine but when it comes to Wifi it randomly disconnects a lot , sometimes shows limited access and most of the time the signal strength bars keep going up and down.
Since a few weeks, I have a problem with my laptop running Windows 8.1 (Toshiba Satellite P50-A-12PBE). Sometimes, after bringing Windows back from sleep mode, I seem to have no connection to the internet. Windows says the connection is 'limited', wether I'm connected with a wire or wireless. Resetting the router doesn't solve anything, but rebooting my pc does. Since both the wired and wireless network are always simultaneously affected, I think this hasn't anything to do with drivers (I already have the latest versions by the way). I have made screenshots with ipconfig-results when I'm connected with a wire.
I just bought my daughter a Lenovo running Windows 8 and when I try to connect to my Wi-Fi I am getting Limited connection only and can't figure it out.
I have an issue with my computer after installing windows 8.1. I previously had windows 7 on my HP Pavilion dv7 and I bought the student version of windows 8 and downloaded/installed on my PC last night. I'm loving the new OS, except one thing. Every 15 or so minutes my internet says "limited access." No, it's not my connection - it works fine on other laptops/phones.
Once I restart the PC it reconnects, I tried to reinstall my drivers and it doesn't seem to work.
I am frequently getting page not found errors, and am having to reload, pages take a long time to load and it's pretty much 50-50 wether it will or not load at all.
I've tried rebooting my router. I have a Vergin Media 'Super Hub' which is only two months old.
My connection just went 'limited connection' but I can browse and download on the web with ease. Also, my metro apps like mail, and news, facebook does not update, and also it's live tiles. Windows store app says it can't connect to the internet.
I'm using an Nvidia nForce ethernet built in an Asrock n68c-s ucc motherboard.I tried to find updates for this nvidia nforce but managed to get only for windows 7. so installed it, and nothing happens.
When i am connected to wifi my connection will randomly go limited. This only happens on WPA and WPA2 secured network. I host my minecraft server and with this problem I can no longer do that.
I have an ASUS K35TK, it's about a year old, and was running windows 7, until I upgraded to 8.1 about 5 days ago. Since upgrade I frequently get limited access. I've never had this problem before upgrading. While it's limited on my asus, my parents laptops still work, my iPod, tablet and other devices. The network checks fine. The only thing different is my OS. I've tried disabling IPV6, as suggested for this problem, I got nothing. I've deleted my profile and reconnected, I've done some stuff with netsh commands on CMD, and nothing changes. Connecting through Ethernet is fine, just the wireless is messed up. I downloaded all the proper drivers for windows 8 from the asus website before upgrading. Everything installed fine and I'm not having any driver issues. This is an error specifically with windows 8.1. My brother had run 8 for a we months with everything fine, he upgraded to 8.1 and has the same problem. He has a Lenova with completely different specs.
When I am connected to my college's network, it works just fine, but every few minutes or so, my WiFi network connection suddenly goes to "Limited" and I lose my internet access. It doesn't actually disconnect, but it just says it is limited. If I disconnect and reconnect, it works fine, but then a couple minutes later it does it again. I can't seem to see any pattern to it, but sometimes I think it happens more when I am in a full-screen application like a game or Netflix or something. Also, this only seems to happen in my dorm building. If I go to another building, and connect, it seems that the problem goes away.
