Recently upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1
I have a Synology NAS, Mapped as P: on my computer.
I can see the P: in Windows Explorer. However, in several applications. Most notably Photoshop CC, After Effects CC and 3ds Max 2013. The P: is not accessible from the open dialogue box. Nor can i enter the path manually.

For one domain admin user only, when he logs in he sees normal mapped drives. The longer he's working, he starts seeing more and more letters mapped to the same particular network share. So after a few hours he'll have 12 drive letters all mapped to the same network share.
Doesn't matter what workstation. Doesn't seem to be a particular application.
This is a boot up timing issue, registry fix for network comming up. I am on a wired LAN which works ok. However, recently when booting I am getting the message cannot connect to network drives - these are mapped drives to NAS boxes.
However, when I access the drives the 'red X's' change to the network symbol and access is working. Its seems the computer wants to connect before the network is up. It is not a credential issue, but boot order. Is there anyway to make the network come up before the computer wants to map to it. Not a problem but a nag.
I have a laptop running Windows 8.1 with Update 1. I have drives mapped to my Windows Home Server 2011 and to my Windows 7 desktop PC. But each time I reboot the laptop it drops the mapped drives and I have to try and map them all over again. I say "try" because most times I have to go back to my other PCs and unshare and then reshare the drives for them to be seen again in Windows 8. Then I can map them again but only until the next reboot.
Same goes for the Windows Home Server 2011 Connector software. Windows 8.1 drops the connection after a reboot and the Connector software must be reinstalled EACH TIME to connect with my server.
I have the SAME user name and password on ALL machines. I have tried mapping the drives with just the username and password as well as with the remote PC nameusername combo but that doesn't work either. Finally I have set my shared drives/folders to have read/write access to ALL users. Again, no luck unless I unshare and reshare.
I have windows 8 on a Samsung computer. I can access the internet in desktop mode. However now when I go into the apps screen I cannot now access any app that needs the internet eg. apps store. I am told I have no internet access even though I can see it is connected.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy 8.1 laptop shows multiple network connections to my Samsung Smart TV --- One as "media connections" and 3 as "other connections". Both devices are on a simple wireless network using Linksys WRT54GS.
Under the "Network" page, most of the "Properties" of the TV connections are the same except for "Serial Number" and "Unique Identifier". Did I do something wrong when setting things up? Are these extra connections harmful? Should I delete some? How?
When I click network while i am in windows explorer, the network infrastructure is not there, only the Computer is visible there and i want to fix something by changing the properties of my modem/router on the network infrastructure.
View 5 Replies View RelatedLocation is not available to mapped network drive in Windows 8 I'm trying to copy a file from my mapped network drive, which is something I've done 1,000+ times in Windows 7, but for some strange reason I get a location unavailable error when trying it in 8. I tried deleting and remapping the drive and then tried restarting the computer. Neither of these resolved the issue. I've noticed that I can copy it to my desktop but nowhere else. See the attached images for more information.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 8 64 bit system. There is a laptop with windows 7. I have my canon mp470 printer plugged into the windows 8 system via usb. Up until a few days ago we could printer from the windows 7 laptop through the network. I have done 2 things since then. 1.) I uninstalled mcaffee internet security and installed nortons internet security and 2.) I tried to update to windows 8.1 which failed part way through the update then it said the system was reverting back to windows 8.0
Now I can't print from the laptop. (nothing changed on the laptop only on the windows 8 system).
I have several computers on my Wireless/Wired Network. Wireless is dual band and Secured with WP2 Password. Basically on several of my PCs I can see connections to my neighbours computers showing as Windows Media Player Icons. When I first noticed this I fully restored my router (Western Digital) creating new SSIDs and Passwords, however I can still see these computers.
I'm not personally bothered that I can see them as I can always click remove device, I'm more interested WHY I can see them and Can they see my computers as I do have some without Password Protected sharing as I assumed only devices on my network could access these.
My PCs are Running a Mix of Windows 8.1 and 7 and both can see the 2 neighbour computers. I have homegroup set up with a secured password too.
My Brand new Laptop: Lenovo g505 after upgrading it to windows 8.1 from MS Apps store now i am not able to connect to internet i get "limited" or "No Internet Access". i have tried to re install the driver no luck
Lenovo support suggests to do factory rest but i dont want to go back to windows 8 ...
After the new windows 8.1 update (which inclided the home screen power off button) a net problem came out. In my wifi indication, it sais "limited", but when i enter the web, i can search in the internet without probs. When i go to net. and sharing center, i cant see any network. On my other laptop (win7) it shows the connection normally.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having a network problem since Refreshing Windows 8.1 Pro Update 64 bit on one of my PC's. I've been able to see other PC's OK but unable to see some devices (eg Diskstation NAS etc) on my network (all connected using Ethernet cables).
I've tried all sorts of things to cure the problem and all to no avail.
I just noticed that in Services there was no Computer Browser so I guess this is my problem. I copied over the browser.dll file from another PC (using the same operating system) to the Windows/System32 folder but after a reboot there was still no Computer Browser in Services. I ran a couple of scripts I found, a registry hack and something else to restore the Computer Browser then I uninstalled the Client for Microsoft Networks, rebooted and re-installed the client.
Now when I look in Services it's listed as Browser instead of Computer Browser and in the Description column it says "Failed to read description. Error Code: 15100. The error code has now changed to error code 2.
What I can try next other than a clean re-install?
I just got a network usb adapter for my new Windows 8 built PC. In the devices area of the control panel it shows the network adapter as installed, and working. However, when I got to PC Settings there are no wireless settings shown, and unlike my other computers around the house I can't find my network or any other networks which is very stranger since I live in an apartment and I'm surrounded by like 20 different networks.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use windows 8.1 on a desktop for a server in our small office. Server + 5 workstations. I was using an old XP machine to scan documents in. I moved the scanner to the Windows 8.1 server. The XP machine scanned them and sent them to a location on the server and from there anyone could get to the document.
Now, if I scan from the server to the same location it will not show on the workstations in Windows Explorer (or Thunderbird if emailing). It's there and all the workstations have permission to access the folder.
If I am on the Win 8 machine and copy the file to another location and then back to the scan docs location, no problem it shows. If I copy a doc from a workstation to the Server. No problem it shows.
I suspect some type of permissions issue but am unable to figure out how to resolve it.
I have run into some networking problems and I think I have narrowed it down to the homegroup provider.
I have 4 windows 8 pro x64 computers connected to a router. Up until now, I have been able to disable the homegroup provider service because I don't want to use the homegroup and don't want to see it in my file explorer. I have been able to connect to all the shared computer drives up until I tried to disable the homegroup provider on my netbook. When I did this I lost the ability to connect to other shared computers. I re-enabled the provider, however I still cannot see drives on other computers. I can now see my netbook on the other shared computers.
I tried everything I know but can't seem to get back my wifi card to work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI got a broadband connection few days before and whenever I use that connection to access internet, Chrome alone works. Firefox, IE, Torrent application and all the Windows 8 apps are showing "unable to connect to internet".
I tried a lot of cmds like" dns flush, resetting connection etc" but nothing worked.
I even refreshed the whole OS, but the issue persists.
just formatted to install windows 8 and then install the Belkin wireless software for the dongle after that was complete restarted and the dongle wasn't showing any available connections Got the software from Belkin
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 and I can no longer see the files inside the folders on my networked drive. Before I upgraded I could see them, after the upgrade - not so much. The folders are fine, I can see them, just no files visible. There's no network issues as the files are visible from my Win7 machines and my wife's Windows 8 machine. All the standard default sharing and viewing settings are correct. Even if I put the direct path in File Explorer is tells me there's nothing there. I'm absolutely baffled. I have never seen this particular type of sharing issue before. I'm a pretty savvy Network Admin so the basic troubleshooting (and standard sharing settings) has been covered.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI use a network hard drive connected to my router for media storage, and it never had any problems when I ran Windows 7. I recently upgraded one PC to Windows 8, and now that PC cannot connect to the network drive. The drive does not show up under "Network" in the explorer sidebar.
It still shows up as a mapped drive under "Network Locations," (which was set up before the upgrade) but Windows 8 sees it as Offline. The drive still works perfectly with the other PCs in the house (all of which still run Windows 7), so it definitely seems to be a problem with 8. What might have changed between 7 and 8 that is preventing the PC from seeing the network drive?
Edit: It may add that all of the PCs and the network drive are connected to the router via ethernet cable (in other words, it's not a wifi issue), and the Windows 8 PC can see the other PCs on the network with no problem.
I want to backup my photos from my computer's D: drive to OneDrive. But when I start to upload them, it says those photos are also available offline. That means, all photos uploaded from my D: drive are also copied to my C: drive. But it wastes my space on the C: drive. All my settings are set to upload photos with online access only. I tried to delete the copied photos from my C: drive but it also deleted them from OneDrive. Is it possible to upload only to OneDrive without copying the photos to C: drive?

I was happily using file history, it was backing up to my G partition, which is located on my second hard drive (both drives are internal)but now I get error message:
I think the problem is that this partition got added to my user, that's what the network path shows:
How do I get it out of my user, and back on a normal path?
I have 2 PC's. Both are now running Windows 8. The main PC was running Windows 7 and I there mapped a network drive (z to the Windows 8 PC. It worked very nice. The second PC was also shown in "networks" in "my Computer" right after boot of Main PC. So network for sharing is set up properly on second PC.
After installing Windows 8 on main PC, it is still working, but the time spend waiting for the network drive is waaaaay longer now. The name of second PC "Photo-PC", is shown right after boot, but when I first click on the name, and get this error:
Networkpath not found. Errorcode 0x80070035
If I then wait about 20-30 seconds and then click again on "Photo-PC" then I have access to all shared drives, included my mapped network drive Z:
How can I eliminate this 20-30 seconds delay after boot?
I have given up setting up a homegroup, never had it to work, but "oldfashioned" network drives used to work
I'm trying to map my box.com cloud storage using "Map Network Drive".
I found the "Map Network Drive" button at the top of my folder. I click on "Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures". I follow through "Choose a custom network location"
At "Internet or network address" I type the url where I would log into box through the internet: [URL] .....
At next I get the login prompt, so I login, clicking "Remember my credentials" , when it returns, indicating that my login is incorrect the number of letters in my password has doubled, so of course my password is incorrect if the "network drive" is adding a bunch of extra characters.
So I go back and click on "connect using different credentials" and get the same result ....
I was wondering if it was possible to share an internal hard drive over the homegroup network or any other possible way that I can view video files on it on my tv?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find a solution to transferring large files (100+GB) between myself and a client of mine at a different location through the internet. The easiest one I have found was through a Private Network through Logmein's Hamachi, as you can browse other connected computers' files through this network.
Of course, to show the shared drives by the host computer, you need to input a username and password through the UAC. Obviously, if I insert my own username and password, I can see the folders I've shared. However, how do I configure a username/password for my client? Are these users the same as local users? I would like to avoid having to make a local user for him on my own computer.
Just for reference, I have no control over my network I am connected to, so no FTP, no port forwarding etc.
OS: Windows 8.1
I have two computers on a large desk side by side. Both are running Windows 8.1
I have a drive on computer A which I want to be able to access on computer B.
I have gone into advanced sharing for the drive and enabled sharing. However, when I go to map the drive on computer B, I get an error that I don't have permission to access that drive.
What am i missing here? Neither computers are using logins/passwords for the admin user account.
