The BSOD displays "system_service_exception (win32k.sys)" when I launch TreePad Business Edition (Treepad Business Edition: All-in-one Organizer, PIM/database, Word Processor, notes manager, search engine, Web site generator and much more!) from the PC or SD card; same result in XP or W7 compatibility mode. After searching for the error code, I am reading this relates to a hardware driver.
TreePad shows Windows 8 is supported on the home page (Treepad: Personal Information Manager, Notes Organizer, Word Processor, PIM, Database and more!) but not on the Business Edition page. As well, while running the install wizard, Windows 8 is listed as compatible. Attempts to contact TreePad about this issue and to verify supported Windows' versions have been unsuccessful.
I recently purchased Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 (2 disk set). I have the first one installed but I get the error message- "Error decompressing data. Corrupted installer?" when I get to models.bif during the installation. I am currently using windows 8 (obviously) but the recommended specs for the games say windows 7. I do not know if this would effect the installation, if so is there a way for me to get windows 7?

Went to Administrative Tools > Services to restart the update service. - No Results
Downloaded the Fix-it from here: [URL] .... and these are the results.
Also, not sure if its related, but the startup sequence for my has been different for the last week. Below is the difference.

I have an computer machine called "HP Pavilion" with Windows 8.1 on it.

I just got an Asus R510DP-FH11 laptop (Newegg.com - ASUS R510DP-FH11 AMD A-Series A10-5750M (2.50GHz) 8GB Memory 750GB HDD 15.6" Notebook Windows 8 (64 bit)) and, after installing a bunch of updates, got Windows 8.1.
When I bring up the start menu, scroll down to the apps menu, and move the mouse at all, it instantly brings me to the desktop where "Asus Installation Wizard" will launch and then immediately tell me that I don't have the supported hardware (even though the Asus Live Update program tells me everything is fine and up to date). I can close it, but it just happens again and again when I visit the apps menu, and ONLY when I visit the apps menu. It doesn't happen on startup or any other time.
how to stop it from launching. I cannot do anything in the apps menu because of this.
should i remove or/and uninstall something ?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been suffering a high volume of BSODs - both before and after I switched hard drive last week.
I'm getting Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error on almost every first startup. In addition, I often get a Page Fault in Unpaged Area BSOD when gaming (primarily Max Payne 3) - dxgmms1.sys has been referenced on more than one of these occasions.

this error shows about 5 times when i launch Cinema 4D, and when i try to open the materials menu it won't show up like other menus do
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had my windows 8 laptop since January and have had absolutely no problems with it until now. i recently just took my laptop away on a holiday with me for a couple of weeks where i did not have any internet connection. The laptop was working fine and had no issues with playing a few games or watching movies etc. I just got home and started my laptop when i noticed no programs would open including (google chrome, internet explorer, various games and applications including the windows 8 menu screen programs).
However the only program that did open for me was files explorer. my first instinct was to restart my computer, so i did go to the settings button and selected restart. after waiting a couple minutes and not seeing and progress i held the power button in and then turned the computer back on. the same thing happened again and i again tried to restart my computer through the settings menu. however this time the restarting screen appeared, however after watching this screen for 20-30 minutes with no signs of updates or the like, i again held the button down to restart.
I did some googling and found users facing similar problems and mentioned about it all being involved with internet connection. i turned my internet off on the laptop and restarted the computer once more, when it came back on, all the programs worked as usual so i turned my internet back on, and as soon as i did, the computer refused to open any new programs. i went on my computer offline and deleted my newest programs and files i had installed the last time i had internet as well as running a full system scan on norton, norton could not detect any problems and the computer still refused to work online.

Over the last few days I built a new PC with ASUS A87 Pro MB, no PCIe cards, and Samsung ssd 840 Pro boot drive. Lots of changes on a daily basis. For a while, the FAST STARTUP hybrid boot was working. Then it stopped, and I'm trying to debug it.
When PAST STARTUP is enabled in power options, I get a repeatable Critical Error - Windows did not shut down properly, and the startup time is as long as it would be without FAST STARTUP enabled. There are no BSODS, and no apparent harm from the Critical Shutdown error.
When I download software onto my Windows 8, often there is an .msi file to install the application. When I double-click on the .msi file, I get an error "Error while Opening File". This occurs on various software packages, so is just not a bad download.
When I click "OK" to this error message, I get a big green button on the screen, with "Download" in big letters, and "ilivid" in smaller characters.
I did mistakingly download the ilivid app onto my PC (once again a big green button on a download site that I thought was the download link to the file I wanted, however I uninstalled it once I read some articles online about it, also ran Malwarebytes to check for malware.
Do I need to re-associate the .msi files with the Windows Installer?
I installed windows 8 and JDK 7 without problems but when i go to install the android SDK tools the installer says to me that can't find Java SE Development Kit.
I downloaded the right version of JDK. Simply the SDK installer can't find C:windowssystem32java.exe when in fact the file is in that folder.
I go to set an environment variable Java_home that point to Java.exe but does not work.
i installed a game using iso file, it worked fine.after getting a setting problem in my game i did the recovery of 2 days before then obviously i'll have install that game again but when was trying to install the game installer was not not proceeding.

Are the files on C:WindowsInstaller needed or they can be removed ?
If yes then how to safely remove them?
After installing Windows 8 in most cases you have to install .Net Framework 3.5 to be able to install or run some 3rd party application. Recently while browsing the internet I came across an offline installer; one that worked perfectly and was very easy to use.

Download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Offline Installer for Windows 8
Or

After last week' update I started seeing a lot of "The start type of the Windows Modules Installer service was changed from auto start to demand start." Even ID 7040 in my system event log.
It triggers when laptop is idle (win 8 pro 64 bit), the CPU usage goes to 30% and higher and the event log gets pounded with the above messages.
I have followed the instructions from the Windows 7 forum on changing the owner/permissions for a file from Trusted Installer to Administrator but cannot see an EDIT button. I am trying to delete files associated with the Delta Search malware which was detected and deactivated by Malwarebytes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince a few weeks for some reason I cannot access some programs (like MS Word), it just says that "the operating system is not presently configured to run this application". It doesn't show up as a registry item either same as some other programs.
Now my problem is that I cannot install a new version, nor openoffice, or anything else for that matter that uses windows installer.
I've checked if the service and subservice was running and they were, I've tried SFC /scannow and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth but they both didn't fix the problem ( did fix some corruptions though).
What happens with the installer is basically it doesn't do anything. It just sits at initializing forever and doesn't install anything at all. Currently cannot install any programs but don't want to reinstall windows since I have a lot of programs and settings I don't want to lose.
I have been happily using Windows 8, until today. Out of nowhere I cannot install/update anything (I always get "windows installer has stopped working error", I cannot run any metro apps (they simply crash), and windows itself seems unstable. Is there any other solution, other than formatting harddrive and re-installing everything?

My problem is since updating to 8.1, whenever I fire up IE11 on desktop mode a Windows Installer box shows in the middle of the screen saying "preparing to install" and the box continually flashes and the webpage will not load. Why this happens! IE works fine in metro mode and I cannot find any logs in Event Viewer with regards to this problem.
PC is a Dell XPS8500, seven months old.
After entering a valid retail key into the installer located here I get the following error:
I have tried running the installer on another computer with the same results. I have also tried the netsh command and deleting the Panther folder. The problem arised after doing the trick to download 8.1 with a 8 product key and cancelling the 8.1 installer. It was working yesterday and this morning.
I have had installer failure for Hp printer software and windows live mail even though signed in as administrator and running the programs as administrator; the failure is the same for both, that is " failure due to lack of privileges to write to C:program dataMicrosoft windowsstart menu".
I have gone to the files and changed permission from read only several times and had it change right back to read only as soon as I closed explorer.
I have gone into uac and disabled notification but it has no effects, and Windows 8 apps still seem to work anyway' so I reset uac to normal level again.
This all seemed to start after a win update, but doing a system restore has not worked either.
When I get to the part in the Windows 8 installer that it tells me what needs to come to my attention, instead of opening a little browser inside of the program as I guess it's trying to do, it opens up 2 tabs in whatever browser is my default. This would be fine if the buttons in the web pages still modified the actual installer, but they don't and therefore the installer is effectively stopped.
I'm trying to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Key word: Upgrade. I would like to avoid re-installing the OS altogether, but I can do that by myself if it comes to that.
Here's what it looks like:
I read on another thread that making IE the default would fix it, but I tried that and it did not work.
