The system will hang and wont respond to any commands while this is happening, and it does this every few hours.
I have disabled the Superfetch service but to no avail

So I bought a Acer Laptop (Acer Aspire E1-570G) that comes with 4GB of ram (2 months ago).
First problem I'd like to tell is that when I right-click to desktop, it loads for ~15sec untill it opens "Right-Click" menu up, and after that it loads about ~5sec, when I right click any icon, then it loads for ~5sec and when finally this right-click menu opens and I click "Open File location" then it loads for another ~10sec to open it's location. I saw that when you go to Device Manager and disable your graphics card and enable them, it would fix problems, also I tried ShellView, none of them worked.
Second problem is that after I updated my graphics drivers (NOT BETA) then after that at one time, all my 4GB will be used causing pc to freeze and I have to force restart it. Now I went and opened Task Manger and processes that "ate" my RAM were System and Service Host: Local System (Network Restricted) (8), first it's okay but after some time I was ablet to see how ram usage from normal, 1,8GB went up to 3.9GB in ~1min.
My friend has same problems and he has 8GB of ram, so me having 4GB can't be the issue.
Also I would mention that restarts are VERY slow, it loads the boot screen, then this white circle goes round and round, then I get black screen for few minutes and then it's useable. I already minimized my startup programs!

This has been happening for a while, my computer will randomly freeze up, most the time I can move my mouse around but my internet seems to cut out (cant load any pages), all applications start to not respond, and it takes around 1-3 minutes to unfreeze. I have a ASUS G46V gaming laptop.

My computer freezes randomly when I am using multiple programs. For example Photoshop and Chrome. Fortunately it doesn't happen all the time. But is it is still very annonying. I think the problem is driver related but I'm not sure. It has never happend when playing games.
Symptons: Freeze/Lockup. Cannot control the mouse. The only thing I can do when it happens is to hold the power button.
Information:
- Computer: Alienware 17 Laptop
- OS: Windows 8.1
- Attachment: Event Viewer administrative logs- Do you need more information?

It boots OK. Dell 755 dual core 1.8 3.5Gb ram,
For some time now, the machine will suddenly freeze, after 10 sec or so back to working, using any program. When I open outlook I'm now getting a message saying outlook didn't close properly, or personal folder didn't close properly. I always shut down al rpgrogram before switching off.
After it's frozen you can hear the HDD crackling a little, it's like backing up. Don't a HDD scan and check everything seem to be OK. I did look through the log, I noticed a lot of multiple triggers. Don't know what that means.
I run a Huawei modem since I used a Tigo chip, when It boots up, I notice the FDD light comes on. When I leave the modem in the USB and boot up, I loose my CD ROM icon, to get it back If I need it, I have to remove any usb drive like Modem, flash drive it reappears. This has happened for long long time. It did the same in Win7.

My specs are:
I5 4670k
MSI g45 z78 mobo
16 GB G.Skill 1866
samsung 840 evo SSD
toshiba 2 TB HDD
EVGA GTX 760
I have completely installed a clean win 8.1 install and still have this freezing issue. It happens after i login and after my bitdefender internet security loads fully i try to click on the desktop icons but they are frozen. My mouse moves and i can click on the taskbar and startbutton and CRTL+ALT+DELETE as well. It freezes the desktop icons for 30seconds max. I have booted into safemode and it occurs there as well.
I have ran multiple malware and antivirus scans, sfc/scannow, DISM /Online/Cleanup-Image/RestoreHealth, checked my event viewer for any errors, ran chk dsk, bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes, i cant figure it out. All drivers are up to date, I disabled my lan adapter since i am using wifi. Windows updates are updated, defragged the harddrives, and I been reading through forum after forum but i have not seen this exact problem before. Also this is on stock BIOS no overclock, I also monitored the cpu and memory usage during the time of freezing and it nothing out of the ordinary usage, cpu is kept within 5% and memory is at 20% or less.

I've recently purchased a Samsung Series 7 all-in-one computer. Having used iMacs all my life, and the need for a Windows computer for programming, I opted for this machine.
Here is a screenshot of my specs before I continue:
At times the system is unresponsive. All I have open is Visual Studio Express 2012 and Chrome with 4 tabs open. When I switch to Visual Studio it has to restart and crashes. The application I'm developing is tiny, so it's not an issue with that. Sometimes when using Chrome if I open a new tab the whole computer will freeze for 20 odd seconds.
Even when I ctrl+alt+del to open task manager, the task manager takes some time to open.
I've disabled visual effects, but I've not noticed much difference. It came with 4GB ram, but I got another 4GB to top it up to 8GB.
In comparison to my 2010 Sony Vaio laptop this computer is much slower. I can't understand why.
I'm tempted to downgrade to Windows 7 but then I will lose my touch features, and I will have to purchase Windows 7.

Recently, my UPS stopped working for unknown reasons, so while i sent it to repair, my computer had no backup power. Then, there was a storm here that made the lights flicker in a way that my computer shut down abruptly. Not only that, for 5 seconds it turned on and off really quickly. I was playing fallout 3 when that happened, and when i tried playing it again, my save game had corrupted.
That was not the issue though. After this, my windows installation feels unresponsive. Weird little things happen, like sometimes i enter a website's address in chrome and hit enter, yet nothing happens, a white screen loads. I have to refresh, then it works.
Also, sometimes menus don't work, like i hit Apply or Ok, but nothing happens, then i wait like 10 seconds then it works again.
Another issue is my video card. It seems to have gotten loud when i play video games, i downloaded HWMonitor and it got up to 84 C, which isn't melting temperature but it's still pretty high. (it never got past 75 on high load, now it goes up to 80 for non-intensive games).

The taskbar at the bottom of my screen is unresponsive for the last week, despite the fact that I've shut down and restarted my pc many times. It is extremely annoying to switch between windows without the use of the taskbar; I need to go back to the desktop and click from there. I'm using Windows 8.1.

Okay, so I just recently installed my Windows 8.1 Update 1 OS to my PC. It's been going great, most of my favorite apps and games installed and worked perfectly. But I've been getting this bug rather frequently, but don't know from where it all begins.
The OS functions normally at first, but then after I switch from a few metro apps to the desktop, and then back, I lose all control with corner functions. What I mean to say is, the task switcher charms, or the charms bar, or the start button or actually even the ability to close the app by pushing it down... nothing seems to work. The app functions normally and I can use my keyboard to Alt+Tab out of the mess, but this keeps happening.

i am running windows 8 on my Toshiba Satellite L 300 , it was running smoothly and all its features are good too. but suddenly the screen turns out a solid color based on the color which was on desktop ( for example if i am having a yellowish theme, the solid color will be yellow ) .. i have seen a lot white and light yellow color the most when the screen change . after the color change the total system will be unresponsive, the only way i find is to press the power button for 2 seconds, ( ya full power off ) ... again if i start the system, may be it will work perfectly for a long time but suddenly again it happened..
the problem start before two weeks, i thought it may be due to some software error and i done a full system reboot and i don't have any program installed except windows 8, but still it exists. .. now i am sure that problem is somewhere in windows OS or my hardware ... i am unable to find whats going on ..

Earlier today my Asus x551m laptop stopped working; the cursor arrow is still visible and movable, but nothing is clickable, ctrl-alt-delete does nothing, and this laptop does not have an easily removable battery that would allow for a hard reset. Also, when I hold the laptop up to my ear, it is completely silent as if it's not even running. It's been like this for almost 3 hours, and I'm hoping that it will be ok once the battery dies and I power it on again.

Basically every app i open, every little things i do, would end up being unresponsive for up to a minute, then it would work for a few seconds and freeze again. I cant surf the web, play games, or even go to the start menu without everything freezing on me. Heck, typing a 3 letter word would take an eternity.
I've done a ton of research and did everything i can think of to fix this issue. I've refreshed my windows not once, or twice, but THREE times and this problem persists. After the refresh everything would go smoothly for a day then everything gets progressively unreponsive. I've also booted in safe mode and ran both malwarebytes and superantispyware. The scans ended with a few threats and ive quarantined and deleted every malware.
Next thing i did was doing the sfc /scannow in command prompt. It detected some corrupted files and successfuly fixed it yet the problem still persists. My last hope was upgrading to windows 8.1 but alas, but even that didnt do the job. Everything is not responding and its driving me nuts.
I'm typing this under safe mode with networking (everything seems to be completely smooth and responsive in safe mode).

Only just a few days ago did this problem begin. During any session, my wireless adapter will become totally unresponsive and then all of my media connections will become inactive and disconnected. I try to run an ipconfig and it just lists everything as disconnected.
I am thinking that this isn't a driver problem because the wireless internet works up until this happens. I use a d-link usb-wireless adapter but that shouldn't be the problem because even my ethernet becomes disconnected when this issue occurs.

I think this may relate to updating this netbook from Win 8 to 8.1 (but I updated very soon after purchasing so not certain). Basically after several minutes of use, the Touchscreen doesn't respond to touch anymore. I can still use trackpad but no touchscreen.
I have installed latest updates (and drivers from Lenovo site), but still no joy. I've also tried recalibrating touch screen (via Control Panel app) but this hasn't worked (and "reset" option is greyed out).

I've installed Windows 8 on an xtreemer ultra media center. It's connected to a projector and a touch screen monitor in duplicate screen mode. Sometimes I would like to keep projector off and only use monitor.
Problem is when I turn off the projector. You hear the sound that windows detects a disconnected device. The image changes to a clean desktop (used to be lock screen, but I disabled that). And system becomes unresponsive. No cursor can be found. No metro interface. Microsoft+p is not displaying. Tried everything I can think of.

Ever since I got Windows 8 Pro 64 bit, it's turned my computer into Ricky Retardo.
When I click on the Metro tiles for People, Photos, Video, Games, whatever ... it grows to fill the whole screen, and then immediately closes again like nothing was supposed to happen. I figured I needed to restart my computer. That didn't fix it.
Then I installed the Windows Media Center 8 with the promo code and everything. When you first start it, it tries to setup, and asks you whether or not you want Express or Custom installation. Picking either or on both options causes the entire program to go unresponsive and crash.

I have a retail version of Windows 8 pro. All updates have been applied. I have a 128g SSD and several SATA3 hard drives in my system. Often I'll be working on my PC and a program like photoshop or thunderbird or even explorer become unresponsive and greys out and sometimes if I wait long enough it comes back but only for a short while before it happens again.
Many times it will happen when I am accessing the file structure, i.e. file > open and other times it will happen in an explorer window when trying to access a random folder, i.e. I can browse the c:windows folder but not the c:windowssystem32, but after waiting a bit it shows up.
Sometimes this happens with other (non system) drives.
Also, when I try to open task mgr or event viewer or many built in OS executables I immediately get an error stating:
c:windowssystem32 askmgr.exe (or mmc.exe, etc.) The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion
A reboot fixes this problem, but only for a short while. It may even be that this only happens after coming back from sleep but I haven't spent enough time in front of the machine post-boot but pre-sleep to know for sure.
I have had some intermittent issues with coming back from sleep where either the monitors (video card is HD7870 and mobo is ASRock Z77 Pro 3 - firmware up to date) never initialize or I get the splash login screen but my usb keyboard doesn't recognize input to allow for the password prompt and the mouse cursor moves but clicking does nothing.
Does it sound like a mobo hardware issue with hybrid sleep? I like the hybrid sleep with my SSD for fast boot and wakes but I'm at a loss. Also, I had RTM before the retail version with all the same hardware and never had any of these issues.
One thought is maybe disconnecting a drive to see if its a bus issue where one drive is causing the others to become really slow reads/writes???
Oddly, my chrome browser never seems effected by this.I have also tried disabling my Avast AV s/w just to be sure it isn't that.

I have a brand new laptop with Windows 8. On it, whenever I transfer some files over wireless on my home network, my internet connection becomes next to unresponsive (websites don't load or take forever to load, Skype chat window freezes during my typing and resumes after 10 seconds) until I kill the network transfer. Why is this happening?
It's like the network can only handle one thing at a time, which is strange because none of my other laptops have this problem. With other laptops (that have Windows 7) I could easily transfer files over wifi at full network cap, while listening to music over the network and browsing the internet with ease, watching Youtube in HD.
Now with this Windows 8 machine I don't have that freedom. Is this a Windows 8 issue? Perhaps I should get Windows 8.1.. The problem occurs on transfers between my Windows 8 laptop and my Windows 7 laptop.
Specifications:
Core i7 3630QM
6 GB DDR3 SDRAM

I am setting up an image to duplicate on our student laptops this year and have run into a strange problem. Our computers are on a Domain and the image works great but when a new user logs on with their Domain credentials, all of the stock active tiles are blank and unresponsive. We can have the student log out and back in and the tiles all work the second time. Same thing happens every time a new user logs on for the first time.

The icon in the lower right of my desktop tells me that I have networks available, but is not currently connected. When I click it to open the little box that has the available networks listed, nothing happens other than the icon shading changing letting me know it actually has been clicked. No box opens. Ive tried restarting and even creating a new user, but nothing worked
I got the idea from my roommate to boot it in safe mode, which I did, but now I can't log in due to it asking me for a password that i dont use. I used a 4 digit pin to log in, and it's now asking me for a password. I've tried every password I can think of, but I can't get it, and there doesn't seem to be a "I forgot my password" option.

Many people that have installed Windows 8 have had troubles with random freezing issues. Many users have not experienced any but there has been acorrding to Microsoft a small amount of users that have experience freezing problems, However this is a bigger problem and is a major bug that is within the clock and causes peoples computer's to lock up/ Freeze at random times etc. To get around this you have to disable Dynamic Tick.
This major bug in Windows 8 needs to be addressed by Microsoft and fixed for 8.1. I have tried the preview edition of 8.1 and was very hard to use as it kept freezing a lot. Will Dynamic Tick be disabled in the new 8.1 build?

I have a problem with Windows 8 in that it shall Freeze up without warning. I can get a freeze 1 a day sometimes 1 every 2-3 days but i never know to when or why. I have a Acer 5750g aspire laptop 15 core 8gb ram which came with Windows 7 pre-installed. Have had no problems with Windows 7 but ever since i upgraded to Windows cp and now Windows Pro have had this freezing problem. It is so annoying that it always seems to happen when your in the middle of some work or downloading and you lose your work because i am forced to turn of my computer and reboot again!
Do any other Windows 8 users have this problem?
I have tried many things to try and stop this, My drivers are up to date but yet i can still get a freeze.I also have Tune Up Utilities 2013 Mcafee installed so i should not really get any problems.
One thing i have been told to do is goto the msconfig and disable my services under services (by also ticking hide all Microsoft Services) except for Mcafee, This is a lot better but i have had a freeze since but maybe this was because i installed a new program and it showed up under services and i had to untick this.

I've been getting partial freezes on my HP laptop after upgrading to windows 8.1
What I mean by a partial freeze is when the app or program becomes unresponsive, but the mouse moves, alt+Tab works and the start button works too. However, I cannot make selections (i.e. Inside apps or the desktop) or open new programs.
Initially the freeze would stop after a minute or two, but these 2 days the freeze had directly caused the computer to shut down.
My laptop specs are as follows: 2.4 GHz processor (AMD A4-4300M) and 6 GB RAM. I only got it last year, came pre-installed with Windows 8.
I had no problems with Windows 8, I was not running any program that required a lot of memory. All the microsoft updates have been installed, drivers updated and registry cleaned. No conflicting anti-virus programs.

Recently I've installed a genuine Windows 8 x64 Pro(upgraded from Windows 7 x64 Ult).
It worked fine for around 5-6 weeks, and after that I've installed several features like framenetwork, directx, and a few video games. Then the windows started freezing after around 2-3 minutes, and when I'm restarting the comp it asks for a boot CD(even that that option is disabled in the bios), and I have to totally shut it down in order to turn the comp on again.
I didn't install a motherboard driver(I've got a gigabyte ep43-ds3l and on their website they've got only windows 7 drivers) but the comp works like it's got all the drivers, the only drivers I've installed is the video card driver AMD Radeon HD4870 1GB - the latest version for windows 8. I've tried to use your guide for posting but the windows freezes too fast and it doesn't finish the process (I'm posting from my laptop), maybe I can try it from safe mode or something, I just don't know how to use safe mode on Windows 8.

I have two Windows 8 installs, one on my desktop HDD, and another on my laptop's. My laptop broke, so i took the HDD and hooked it up to the extra SATA on my desktop for extra storage. For one reason or another, my desktop install decided to stop working, and I couldn't find the disk I used to upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 so I could refresh/restore it. I went to boot to my laptop install to use it for a while (as safe mode wouldnt work on my desktop install anyways) and that worked for a few days, but now the start screen freezes and I have to open task manager and move it to my other screen with Win+Shift+left, and end explorer.exe. Of course, since that doesnt work, I cant use the create a recovery disc utility.

Three weeks ago I bought a brand new Alienware X51 gaming computer (don't blame me, it was on sale!). Just today, when I boot it up, it works fine initially, but takes an abnormally long time to start up.
After that, it freezes when I do certain things, but the mouse still moves.
What causes it to freeze (so far): Logging out (black screen with mouse)Opening the Start menu, typing something and switching to Settings mode.Opening the Start menu, typing something and clicking thatAnd other random things
When I try to open Task Manager, it simply does nothing, no matter if I launch taskmgr.exe manually, or press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and clicking Task Manager.
The system tray thing is still empty when I click the up arrow, save for an nVidia updater.
Specs: Alienware X51Some kind of i5 (never looked really)GTX 660 That's about all I know.
I have a lot of important data on there (like my 500gb media collection), and my external HDD just died, so reinstalling is not an option (also, I don't have a legitimate install disc).

So I just got my computer about a month ago and I have noticed that 2 or 3 times a week it freezes up for 15-20 minutes or more, and the Disk usage is at 100% on the performance monitor. I checked the system error logs and found that the Bonjour service from apple had a critical error when it froze. I then disabled the service from running and computer ran fine for a week or so then started freezing again. I have ran disk optimizer, defrag, and virus scans with no success to fixing the problem. On the processes tab of the performance monitor it will show a few different processes using the most disk i/o. Windows Installer, Windows Module Installer Worker, System, and few others I cant remember right now.
Side note: this problem happens at any time with 0 programs up and running or 10 programs. I have 16 GB of memory so its not a memory problem. Just hope its something that can be fixed and I didnt just waste a bunch of money on a crap machine.
