I have win8 64bit OS. I have converted abook saved in PDF to an ebook using a software. And it is required to save in SWF/html in order to read on ebook reader on tablet etc. But I am not able to do so in win 8.
View 3 RepliesI have several webpages that I created in Windows XP using Notepad with simple html coding. When I open one of these files under Documents in Windows XP, it is shown exactly as it appears on the Web. In order to edit the coding, I click on "View" and then "Source" and the html coding appears.
I've transferred these files to my new computer with Windows 8, but there's no way to view the coding and edit. I right-clicked on a file and the dialogue box that appears includes "edit." But when I click on "edit," I get the message "There is no program associated with this file to perform this activity." Well, the "program" that I used to create the file was Notepad. Is there no Notepad in Windows 8, and if there is, is it incompatible with Windows XP Notepad?
Is there no way to edit html in Windows 8 without finding some editing program to download or purchase? (I gather from "Windows 8 for Dummies" that there isn't, since "html" is not even in the index.)
Since I installed 8.1, I can no longer edit HTML with note pad. Is there a way to set IE 11 to use note pad?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 8.1 64 bit PC with a program called 1stPage.exe installed.
When I right click a .txt file I get 'Edit with 1st Page' in the context menu and it also shows in the open with menu.
However HTML files do not show these options. I have checked the registry and it would appear that the program is set up on the open with menu exactly the same for both file types.
So it would appear that something is blocking 1stPage from showing against HTML files but I can't figure out what I need to change.
I have to go to task manager and close it down and open it again but I can't get any work done as I can't save anything. I just installed the windows 8.1 patch two days ago.

I then have to right click the desktop and entre my password to find out that my converting to disc was dead.. when i stop at the laptop converting this never happens...is there a way to stop my laptop from doing this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday while casually browsing the iNet my Music suddenly stopped playing and while at first I believed it to be an issue with Xbox Music I later discovered that the Culprit was actually one of my RAID0 HDD's which decided to go AWOL - The Intel RST Manager confirmed this by showing that the 4th Drive ( I'm running two separate RAID0 with two drives each ) was missing.
A restart didn't solve the issue at first but physically removing the affected RAID and installing it back again using the SATA connectors of the other RAID0 for testing did. Interestingly enough even now that I installed everything back like it was before it appears to be fine
Right now I'm considering in converting my second PC into a BackUp System itself by getting large enough HDD's, install them into the primary PC first in order to quickly copy all the files and then move them into the secondary PC.
From there one I plan to use BTSync which is technically not a BackUp software but pretty much behaves like one as it simply copies all files of a selected folder from the primary PC to the secondary PC which it cannot find there in an actual version.

The reason I want to do this is because I am going to install Debian Squeeze(Linux) and dual boot it with Windows. It seems Linux does not support SATA IDE but only supports AHCI.

I messed with it, but the numbers were not exporting I only see names. Active Directory is where we add the information, then it syncs with exchange. Do I do it via the active director? If so, how? When I add info via active directory, it updates in the GAB, not in the contact list, and the contact list is what shows on the phone....and is what we need to update as we add info!!!!! Why isn't this possible? That isn't "syncing" that is just refreshing what is already there! We have around 500 employees, and having to log into each of there emails and add new contacts manually is NOT ok.

connecting my mac book pro/ windows laptop to My main computer and everything on it. I've never had 2 computers in the same house before. I use my Windows 8.1 for everything, but there are times when I'm somewhere else in the house where I'd like to access anything/everything on it. I have Wifi AC through a dlink router. I also have wired ethernet through the house. Thats not the problem, just how to connect the main computer to every other computer in the house either wifi or wired. If I'm out in the garage and I want to see my desktop computer on my mac book pro how can I do it. Also... I installed splashtop on each computer, but haven't figured it out if its the right software. I guess I need the right words to make the questions I have ask understandable for everyone.

It stopped working and the buttons that switch it on/off (in the settings menu, the resolution menu) disappeared. I tried reinstalling the system and it worked but then the problem came back after about 30 minutes. I dont feel like reinstalling it whenever the problem appears.

One of them wouldn't recognize bluetooth or wi-fi and it had a problem with the Broadcom Serial Bus Driver over UART Bus Enumerator. After numerous driver downloads and installs and even a full factory restore (whatever option in windows 8 where it deletes everything and reinstalls the OS), the issue still persisted. Since the tablet was brand new, we just submitted a DOA request from our wholesaler and sent the tablet back. No big deal, figured it was a hardware issue. The other day, a Lenovo tablet came in with the EXACT same problem. Again driver installs, factory restore etc and the issue is still there. SO obviously it's not a hardware issue Again, both units have had drivers, bios and factory restores and the issue is still there, immediately after factory restore.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi was able to get as far as having the px load from camera to computer & somehow all px got installed into the computer but only temporarily ! While camera was still attached to tower, I clicked on Control Panel/Computer/then the list of programs in computer and then i saw the name of the camera (cannon Power Shot) ...then Cannon 100, clicked on that and then saw all px - was able to individually email some to myself but when i detached cable from tower to camera and went back to ''Computer'' found Cannon 100 but no px were there -so obviously i wasn't able to save them.....but strangely enough 3 of the downloaded px were in the ''DCIM' folder (whatever that term means)...but i don't know how those 3 got there ! So i got far enough to download & 'view' but don't know how to ''save'' the px in the computer for future viewing without the necessity of attaching the camera....besides i'd like to delete some px from the camera once saved into the computer.....I'm so used to XP
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm into photography and when I take pictures and put them on my computer they usually have the same name as several other pictures I've taken. In Windows 7 when I would transfer files from my memory card to my computer it would give me the option to 1) Skip saving the duplicate files, 2) save over them, and 3) keep both files and then it would rename the new file with a number after it (such as DCIM 102 and DCIM 102 (2))
In Windows 8 it seems like I only have the options to 1) skip saving the duplicate and 2) save over the duplicate....since I want to keep both files, what do I do?
Most of my pictures aren't really themed or anything, so there's not really a need for keywords, like "Birthday blah blah" or "flowers yada yada" etc. Anything similar to the "save both files"...?
In the past whenever I would press my Win-key and PrtScr-key, it would make a copy of my desktop and automatically save it to a folder. I'm not trying to copy it to the clipboard, Win has a feature that will allow you to make a copy of the sreenshot and save it to a particular folder called Screenshot.
Anyway, I just recently upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 8.1 Pro w/Med Ctr. After which this has stopped working. I use this feature a lot.
Not sure if my image insert worked, but here's what I'm trying to get to work again. I am aware I can use the Sniping Tool, but it does not work the same.
I am using time freeze program and at same time I am using an free vpn service which pasword changes per week. The time free program has an option to keep some folder and files non freez while freezing active. For instance while freezing active user can select desktop to not be frozen by this way after restart pc will not delete changes done on desktop. My main problem is that after a week later I have to defreez the pc type the pasword and refreez the pc. If I know where the pasword of vpn kept I will able to overcome on this problem.
There is a location with path %userprofile%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftNetworkCo nnectionsPbk that contain vpn configurations except user name and password. I need the location that store user name and password.
How to change the "Save As" directories in Libraries.
Basically, i have 2 drives running on my laptop being :
- C Drive: SSD ~ i want this to store all my system information + very frequently used programs.
- D Drive: HDD ~ to store
* My Documents,
* My Pictures,
* My Videos,
* My Music, +
* Games + etc.
The problem now is that all the directories above are pointing to C Drive as their default save location. How to change this so that by default, all the files above will show "Save As" in D Drive?
I'm running Win 8.1 with IE 11 and for some reason, my homepage started to show up a about:blank. I go to Internet Options to fix this (MSN.com) and hit Apply. It looks like the change is made, but when I close the Options window and reopen it, the about:blank page shows up again in the homepage URL field. The same problem occurs if I simply close and reopen the browser. Rebooting didn't work and I got an error message that System Restore couldn't do a restore for my last restore point for some reason.
How do get the browser to save my homepage URL? Can I re-install IE 11 if there is no other option?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been having some major trouble with all of my programs. At first I thought it was just with my Adobe Creative suite, but then I noticed it was happening on my Office Suite. Then on firefox, IE, etc.
Every time I open up the window to save or open a file from a specific directory, the program crashes. Resetting my computer works for a while but after a few hours, it goes back to crashing all my programs. I'm getting very desperate as I have some looming deadlines and this is really affecting my work.
I've tried 'refreshing' my system and it says my drive is locked...
I've tried restoring a backup but get an error...
I've tried formatting my system and it says a partition is missing...
I'm on a new laptop running Windows 8 Pro, and I'm running into permission issues. I just created an icon (using Axialis Icon workshop), and tried to save it to a folder which I myself created. But I got this message:

You don't have permission to save in this location.
Contact the administrator to obtain permission.
Would you like to save in the My Pictures folder instead? No, I wouldn't like to save in My Pictures. I never use it. How can I get permission to save to the folder I want? I'm a sole user; I'm a member of administrators; I've tried (unsuccessfully so far) to give myself permission to run all programs without being nagged.
I suspect that taking ownership of the C:Program Files might do the trick, but it seems like an extreme measure. Should I simply follow the steps in Brink's tutorial 'How to Allow or Deny Access Permissions to Users and Groups in Windows 8'?
