I have dell vostro 3521 running on windows 8.1 . When i play game ( i.e assassins creed brotherhood ) I am getting only 8-10 fps and its lagging like hell. When i checked gpu usage in msi afterburner its shows both intel hd 4000 and 7670m are used . So how do i change it to only utilise dedicated gfx ?

Problem: Tried to hook up my new nvidia video card, powered on the computer. No display. Unseated the video card, switched the cable back to the onboard connection, powered on, booted into BIOS, and I did not see any option for disabling Onboard or switching to PCI-E. So, I booted into Windows 8 and disabled the onboard graphics there. I then installed the video card physically into the computer and powered on. Still no display. I unseated the graphics card and plugged back into the onboard once again and now I only get display up until POST is finished then the display is turned off (I only assume this is because I disabled the Intel HD onboard graphics in the OS). But I tried to boot to miniXP from HIRENS only to find out I cannot boot to the CD! This is ingenious (sarcasm noted), so I need to figure out how to get this very limited machine to boot to a CD to get into MINIXP so I can reenable the onboard.
I've seriously been searching everywhere on how to increase my dedicated video ram for Battlefield bad company 2 ( I have 32 but need 256) And i can't find it anywhere???? i have 4 GB of ram, i tried the advance restart, nothing in there. Is this even a option?

There is an option in my bios to change the dedicated video memory of my integrated graphics card.Is there any problem if I increase it?(Currently it is 64 MB, there is maximum 1024 MB available in the option).

This occurs especially during games, my native resolution is 1366x768 but whenever I choose a lower resolution than that in games, the size of the game on the screen becomes smaller than my laptop's display/screen (15.6"). Why does this happen? Is it a laptop issue only? My older laptop had the same problem.
PS: I have the latest graphics drivers.
I have question about asphalt 7. I have a windows 8 dell laptop, I downloaded Asphalt 7, and it runs awesome. the only problem is, I cant play "multiplayer" pop up says "disconnected" "no internet connection available" but that is not the case.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running a pc with a switched boot for XP pro 32, W7 64 HP and Windows 8 pro 64. I usually connect to my monitor with DVI and everything is hunky dory. I lent a friend the monitor cable for a few days and connected using an HDMI cable. I didn't have any specific graphics drivers on any of the operating systems. They all report full hd in control panel but there is a wide margin around the display. I went on the AMD graphics site and downloaded the autodetect software in turn and then the catalyst software. This worked fine for XP and W7 but not Windows 8. The graphics are Radeon HD 4200 onboard an Asrock 880GMH/U3S3. Any solution for Windows 8.

Only while playing games (Civ 5 - Heroes & Generals - Rise of nations) I suffer from freeze/crashes, PC doesn't show a BSOD, the mouse pointer works normally it doesn't freeze (until I try to alt+tab or alt+ctrl+del), and from my speakers I can hear looping sounds.
The only thing I can do is a hard reboot. I try reinstalling windows, and the problem still exists.My BIOS, drivers* and OS are update, I perform a memtest for 6 hours and show no errors, I can run prime95 + kombustor and everything is fine, no temps problems, GPU never go over 68c and CPU at 58c, and no crashes.
DSIM commands show no errors neither.
*I tried latest NVIDIA drivers, and old ones, im actually using 334.89 version, and the problem persist.
It's been happening for awhile now since windows 7 through to windows 8 and i'm not sure why but it usually happens when i play games even with lowest settings, whenever it freezes it makes me have to force shut down manually.

I have a question regarding PC gaming, since I realy dont know as much as I would like to.
My question is what role does my CPU play in gaming? Is it a big thing? I always thought that having a strong, powerful graphics card was more important that a powerful CPU.
Is there a particular thing that the CPU does in PC gaming that makes having a strong one essential?
Okay, this is the second time with a different game this is happening, at very specific points in the game, My Laptop's screen blacks out and goes off, the computer stays on with lights and stuff but the screen just stays off like when you put off a pc but the fans keep running, I then have to forcefully power my pc off to put off the entire system.
I don't think this has anything to do with my Laptop's temperature as I've just had the vents and heat sinks ventilated recently, also cause the laptop goes off at just one scene in a particular mission in both games, Assassins Creed and Far Cry 3.
I don't think its my PC's specs either cause I went through the requirements of these games before getting them. I've not been able to go past the stages in the game where my PC goes off.

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter a couple of weeks using 8.1 (x86) and after Windows 7 Ultimate (x86), I have come to the conclusion that it is a much lighter and faster OS than 7. Mafia 1 for instance runs on full specs without a single hiccup no matter what. I know it's an old game but it's also very demanding, especially on my system which is not exactly up to date. I can also play Splinter Cell Chaos Theory on medium settings very well indeed, and that's a demanding game on the system. GT Legends by Simbin is a reasonably demanding game especially on full graphics options and with a full grid of cars and it's running well on Windows 8.1. My onboard Intel graphics adapter is coping a lot better with these games than it did on Windows 7 Ultimate. I had to find a Windows 8 driver for it (I've found it on here) then all my games started to run very well considering my old laptop specs.

a LITTLE issue I still have is the fact that the games that I can and have downloaded from the Windows store (Hearts, Solitaire, Spider etc. require an internet connection to actually enjoy them ( I could have missed something). Ever since last night any game I try to open, whether it be an online one on steam or battlenet or an offline one experiences major lag during menu, loading and in game if im lucky to enter. Diablo III took 6 tries before i managed to enter the game where the lagging persisted. Rust and Killing floor major lags i couldnt even enter a game and servers wouldnt open. Fallout 3 on my computer would crash every time. Age of Empires II couldnt open past the windowed menu selection, Saints Row the Third stuck on loading screen. Oblivion wouldnt open due to first time set up DivX failing. Mirrors edge would experience Application load error p: 0000065432.
Im including a DxDiag, SFC Scan result which shows corrupt files unable to be fixed.

Per example steam app, league of legends, any other game i have, battle net desktop app. In the steam and battle net desktop apps i click the launcher and it opens the small window (Updtaing steam or updating battle net) and when its done nothing happens. I'm planning on trading laptops. I do audio production and gaming. I have an i3 and the cpu is clocked at 2.4 ghz and he has an i5 clocked at 1.8. How much of a difference will this impact performance? For better or worse?
I am curious because I had a desktop a while back and it had a Core 2 Duo @ 2.8 and I went to this i3 @2.4 laptop and the cpu sucks in comparison to the desktop...I was originally thinking the i3 would be a increase since it was newer architecture.
I would still think on the graphics side its definitely an upgrade because the i3 uses Intel HD Graphics and it sucks...it doesnt even use opengl. The other uses a Nvidia GeForce GT 740M.
This is basically a fresh install. I only really installed steam along with the drivers for my motherboard and gpu. It originally did it while on steam only but has since done it other places. Last night was particularly bad, as it would BSOD and then sit on a black screen while trying to load up. Turning it off and on eventually started it back up. Then it did a weird thing where it would keep rebooting itself. Eventually I shut it down for the night.

Been trying to run fifa12 in windows 8 for a while without success. Initially it asked for .net3,3.5 framework and i installed it. Still its not working. It enters the gamescreen and crashes out in few seconds. The setup menu gives direct3d .net framework exception. have also updated the dirctx runtime.

I installed FSX on my Windows 8 Developers Preview to see if it would work. When trying to open FSX after the installation, the splashscreen would appear and a few seconds later the infamous "Microsoft Flight Simulator has stopped working" message would appear.
I went through the event log and the faulting module seems to be kernelbase.dll, which explains that FSX is not compatible with windows 8 out of the box.
I can't install the (Microsoft) Minesweeper-App from the store. My initial try to install the app was interrupted, and since then, every install hangs for quite some time ("Pending"), then ends with "This app is no longer available." or "This app wasn't installed."
I already tried deleting all caches and pieces from the failed first install attempt I could find, but that didn't work.
