File Explorer No Preview Of Image Files Or Videos?

Files Not Show In Preview Window File Explorer
Sep 20, 2014In File Explorer the preview window box is checked and thumbnails box is checked, but I can only preview image files. Word or Pdf files do not show up. I did a factory setting reinstall of Windows 8.1. My word documents showed up in the preview window prior to the reinstall, but not my pdf files. I use this feature frequently.

Feb 6, 2014I often unzip compressed folders sent to me by email containing several pdf files. When opened in file explorer the preview pane is blocked.
I have to right click and select properties, then click unblock button individually on each file if I want to preview them in the preview pane.
Any way I can set an option either to not automatically block these files when transferred from compressed email attachment to the folder?
Or any way I can use the parent directory and unblock all the files in all the subfolders at once?
File Explorer Not Showing Image Previews
Sep 4, 2013I connected my digital camera to the computer. Windows installed device software to use the camera.
Initially, I saw small image previews. Once all the pictures were loaded, I no longer saw the image previews. Now all I see is a Windows logo and a harddrive icon.
How can I see the image previews?
Explorer Preview Pane Not Showing Preview
Feb 13, 2013I went from XP to Windows 8 Pro. With XP, a pictures folder allowed the icons to represent a small version of the picture; the filmstrip option was a nice bonus.
With Windows 8, the icon, no matter what size, has a generic look to it--same for all the pictures. I enable Preview Pane, and the same thing happens. No preview of the picture on the preview pane, just a much larger generic icon.
I see screen views on the web of it actually working, but I can't get it to.
Windows Explorer Stops Showing Files Or No File Thumbnail
Aug 21, 2013Annoying error of windows explorer. Windows explorer is getting crashed while opening any folders accidentally, especially folders with large number of files and images. first it appears as windows explorer is unable to load files thumbnails (any kind of files) and appears as white or blank icons regardless the type of file. then when opening my computer in another window , it couldn't load even contents of drivers and hangs as "searching for items".
All this happens suddenly after weeks of normal windows usage. I resolve it by backing up system using Acronis image. but the problem persists. I tried virus scan with no success using AVG. I made thorough scan for C with no result too.
Note that this problem I found with Windows 7 and it forced me to upgrade to Windows 8 then I'm experiencing the same problem now. I don't Understand why.
Note: I think there's no hardware (HDD) error cause I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 alongside Windows and it's browsing files perfectly.
Slim Down Installation Image Of Windows Developer Preview?
Feb 27, 2012I was just wondering if it was possible to slim down the installation image of Windows Developer Preview? I'm in need of installing it to a 16GB SSD so it's going to be quite a squeeze. For Windows 7 I could use Vlite, but I'm guessing this is not the same with Windows 8, any more.
Is there a similar utility for Windows Developer Preview yet like Vlite?

You can use your installation media to access the Repair function and restore your System Image from there.
Print Preview Colour Does Not Match To Original Image
Jun 30, 2013Overview: My print preview colour does not match the original image colour.
This has been true since buying this Toshiba with Windows 8 preinstalled. Prior to Win 8 I had a machine with Win 7, and used Spyder4express, and SpyderPRINT for my colour management with no issues. I've recently installed and calibrated my Win 8 machine to try to fix the fact that all prints are off colour and cold, and to maybe fix that in print preview, the print won't match the saved image. Calibrating hasn't worked. Btw, my print matches the preview, but I want it to match the saved file that I've worked on.
Here's a screenshot, the smaller image should be the same as the larger image in the background! Whether I try to print from Photoshop, Word, Lightroom, Photo Viewer, or Windows Explorer, the colour never matches the saved image.
Display EML In Explorer Preview Pane
Mar 14, 2013In Win 8 Windows Explorer, the preview pane seems to be able to display previews of all file types I really use except the type I use most-- eml email files. Is it possible to get the preview pane to show a preview of an eml file?
I have noticed that if I simply manually edit an eml file's extension from eml to mht-- it will be displayed in the preview pane.
I have hundreds if not thousands of eml files saved to disk. I really don't want to change all of them to mht because that eliminates email functionality of the file. Meaning, I would not be able to double-click the file, open it and respond to or forward it as an email message.

Sep 15, 2014This is a 64-bit system running 8.1 Pro. I am unable to preview any files (.doc, .docx, .txt, .pdf, .xlsx, etc.) in the preview pane of File/Windows Explorer. I can preview pictures, but that's it. The only thing that I've been able to find online are uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails" and using the Adobe Reader preview handler x64 fixer tool. Neither of these solutions have worked. What else can I try?

Dec 25, 2012I'm thinking of switching to Windows 8 from OS X on my 2009 MacBook Pro. Its the small things in OS X that brought me to Mac in the first place but now it is getting old. Windows 8 looks fresh so I'm thinking of switching to it. One of these small things thats really useful in OS X is quicklook.
When you are in Finder (like Windows Explorer) if you press the space bar any file that you have highlighted gets previewed. This is much quicker than opening whatever app handles that file and it also gives you some basic useful information about the file like size, type, etc.
If I would just like to see what an mp3 is quickly but dont want to import it into iTunes I can just press the space bar and be done with it in seconds instead of opening iTunes, importing it, creating clutter (if I dont want the file in iTunes at all). Likewise instead of opening a photo app I can just quickly look and browse through pictures.
Does Windows 8 have a similar feature that works fast and is useful?

Jan 27, 2014I have done several installations of Windows 8.1 and I am an average computer user level. The PC is clean and correct, updated drivers and zero waste on my computer. Only Steam Games and downloaded files.
The point is that I can not find the reason for these crashes. Sometimes I do not even blue bug jumps, it just hangs me and I have to trace the RESET button.
I think it happens always or usually watching some video (streaming or video file on my pc) but it has also happened in a game during some cinematic but I think also in the normal course of the game, not sure.

File Explorer Zip File Icon Under Share Tab Not Active
Dec 29, 2012When in file explorer the zip icon under the share tab is not active. When I click on a simple folder, it does not highlight. If I right click on the folder and go to send to all I get is the dvd drive unless I shift right click first then a drop down of more selections appear but not send to compress. Mar 12, 2014I recently got myself into a quandary. I installed 4 additional drives with the intent of creating a RAID volume that's supported by the BIOS. In order to do that I must change the BIOS setting for the controller which includes all volumes including my boot drive (which I don't intend to RAID.) The problem I have is that when I switch the controller from UEFI to RAID, Windows Recovery will not use the System Image that I made. It says the volume was created under a different setting (Bios vs. EFI).
What are my options? Is there a different backup setting that will preserve all my installed software? I'm not concerned about data which I can copy to an external volume but it would take several days to get all my software reinstalled. I'd like to avoid that. I assume I will have to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro and then use a backup program to restore everything else. If that's the case, then I need to know which backup program will work. If there's a better way, I'd love to know. I see my options as either, get another backup program, get a separate controller card for either the boot drive or the RAID volume, or reinstall everything.

Nov 12, 2013I am totally unhappy about windows 8. Many good features from earlier windows are missing such as -
1) You can not pin "Calculator" to the task bar. In earlier versions you could open the calculator, over other windows.
2) While scrolling to folders / files in Explorer or any software, the screen jumps abruptly to up or down.
3) While transferring Images from camera. You can not select part images for transfer along with renaming. This feature was available in Windows XP.

Oct 25, 2013I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 this week and have a fully updated installation now with minimal programs installed. My problem is this, I have my downloads folder set to sort files by date created, from newest to oldest so I can easily find my newest downloads as they should be at the top of the listing, but Windows explorer will not refresh the view if I have have explorer open, forcing me to either manually refresh it or go to another folder, then come back which updates the view. I never had to do this with the old win 8 pro installation and have tried resetting the folders several times but it still won't update by itself. I do have the latest version of Start8 installed, but that never caused a problem before.
