DNS Server Not Responding
Oct 6, 2012I am trying to fix my internet problem and have tried everything, going into the CMD and renewing everything. Still not working.

View 5 RepliesOk so here is some info I have Internet from storm Internet it's a radio dish Ethernet go's to the power over Ethernet device then into my extreme gigabit router , see storm had to come out and move the dish for 20 percent better signal and it was working fine for a day I was getting 6mbps easy, then was on Xbox when out of nowhere it gos out... SO I power cycle.
The poe device and usually it comes back up but it didn't and the computer said the dns server isn't responding..... So I did the ip configuration thing and cleared / renew. Then tried power cycling the router still nothing it should be working...
Today, my internet connection at home encountered a problem. I can connect to the WiFi but no internet access. Usually there's a yellow exclamation mark, but this one is fine, full signal but no internet access. Same thing goes to my iPod, can connect to the WiFi but no internet access.
To my surprise, all my sister's laptop and her Apple devices also the same thing, can connect but no access. I wonder what could be the problem. I use the troubleshoot on my laptop and it says "The DNS server is not responding" and it states that it can't be fix. I already restart my router but still same thing. Right now I'm using my phone's hotspot to connect to the internet and post this here.
My torrent is still downloading at full speed.
I have a Windows 8 x64 rig with a wireless card connecting to Linksys router connected to a cable modem. I also have Hamachi and Teamviewer installed, they add their own setup to the network page, don't know if they are the culprits but with DHCP I have no problem.
Everything works well until I try to set up a static IP on my PC (if I enable DHCP for IPv4 - no prob).
What I did: Set a static IP to avoid conflict with other PCs, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 (auto fills), gateway = my router's IP (192.168.1.1), DNS servers = took from my ISP's site (also tried Google public DNS).
What happens: my PC connects to the wifi as I can browse the router's settings page. But any website I try to access leads to a DNS server not responding. As soon as I reset back to obtain IP automatically everything works.
and don't know what to do.
Dell Inspiron 660 S Windows 8.1
Previously I made a thread t hat when I sometimes load 2-3 tabs or more, I get page cannot be displayed and I have to refresh each of them until they load, it's like the traffic isn't enough to load several tabs at a time.. Either way troubleshooting gives me this:
Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding
In Sharing Center > click the wifi info > Properties > Networking > TCP/IPv4 Properties > All set to automatically detect, even if I inserted the DNS addresses above into manually in IPv4...
In properties I see the same being set, no mismatching DNS servers..
while ago my internet on my laptop got messed, I reset the router and the Internet went down for days, but when it came back it wasn't working for my laptop, but everything else. Trouble shooting has told me it's a DNS server not responding, and now it's telling me the wifi doesn't have a valid ip config. I've tried many things, like with the internet protocals, the command prompt fix which also hasn't worked, and I'm stuck on what to do.
When I click on my my internet protocols v4/v6 it gives me the option to install maybe that's something or not.
I don't know what happened but today when I tried to enter IE I received this message:
The proxy server isn't responding. Check your proxy settings. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections. If you are on a LAN, click "LAN settings". Make sure your firewall settings aren't blocking your web access.
If I go to LAN and remove the block with a check beside the proxy sever IE starts, however, if I log off and try to reenter the proxy server box has a check mark.
I want basicly to home host a VPN, and that is what i do at the moment. So i tried with my friend after i did finish the setup (i did setup the VPN in the Windows Networks interface, over "Incomming Connections"), and i did portforward 1723, and the worst is, that when my friend connects upto the VPN from his PC at his home (not Local), to my IP, then it says on my PC he is connected.
But here comes the problems, at his PC, the Network Icon turns into a yellow warning icon, and when he clicks troubleshoot, it says "DNS Server does not respond", but at my PC here, it even says he is connected to the VPN, but also says no connection over IPv4, and the same on his side.
What can we do to get a connections from my PC to his PC, over the VPN, so he can access the Internet over my Internet instead, like lets say he has a blockade on for example www.facebook.com at home (which he of course doesn't has, it is just an example), and he connects to my VPN, as he accesses my Internet instead, he can open www.facebook.com, instead of having it blocked (one of the main purposes for a VPN, and the data encryption of course).
Here some screenshots:
My PC (Language = German):
My Friends PC (Language = Norwegian):
And as you can see on my PC, it says he is connected, and as you can see on his PC, it also says he is connected, but he cant access the Internet, or anything else related to the web. Now prepare for the funny part: We were on Skype, and as he connected to the VPN, and "lost" the Internett Access, we were still talking (i guess that's because Skype still runs over the home network, while the rest tries to access internet over the VPN connection .
Why does Windows Networking always seem to hose things up ( Linux works EVERY time)
I have two computers on the SAME test private LAN one Whitehorse (W2003 server) and the other Blackdog (Windows 8 Enterprise) both enabled "Shareable and Visible".
View from W2003 -- can see and access disks C,D, and F on Windows 8 Computer
View from Windows 8 - Networking shows the computer Whitehorse (W2003 server) but can't access any disks etc (or even its printer). PING even fails but Windows 8 obviously knows it's on the Network because its found it. The stupid Windows diagnostics when you click Diagnose doesn't work at all --in fact I've NEVER found the network diagnostic panel of the slightest bit of support ever.
I've switched off firewalls etc while testing so there's no security rubbish to take care of while I'm trying to get this to work. LAN is purely LOCAL -- no computer is on "the other side" of a router.
Both machines can access independently the Internet through a Local router and connections are via LAN cable so nothing should be simpler. !! But can I get this to work !!.
I had a similar problem with W7 but it seemed to "Disappear" without me actually doing anything -- the proverbial "Ghost in the Machine" I expect.
(Windows Networking Grrrhhhhhh! -- I'm not particularly technical with this stuff but any time I've used Networking with Linux it works STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX and there's no problem sharing from or to windows. !!)
Note -- Other W7 / Linux / XP computers connected to this SAME LAN (currently switched off) have NO problem accessing the server -- It's just this Windows 8 Machine (Windows 8 x-64 Enterprise version).
My laptop windows suddenly stop responding .. the mouse is moving but cant open anything even the task manager or Start menu! have to shut down from the power button!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently re-installed Windows 8 Pro, 64bit after having some difficulties with drivers. I thought I would start afresh. The installation went smoothly but now I cannot play any type of file with WMP 12 and the Video App in Metro, this may be linked to multiple SFC scans that I have run, all of which report that some repairs have been made and some files were corrupt and could not be fixed.
The Video App crashes with this error message (in event viewer):

I'm on windows 8.1 and metro apps were working just fine previously, but now a lot of my metro apps (music, video, finance, weather etc...) are not working properly. I can launch the apps properly but after a few seconds the apps are not responding to click, scroll, and the screen is not updating, it just stuck there. For example, I can open the xbox music and play the music, but after a few seconds it is not responding to click, and the screen stuck there, but the music is still playing!
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on file explorer, sometimes there are no icons, so then I close the windows for a bit. Reopen it, same problem. So I close it and reopen it a bit later, and it's fixed. When the problem is happening, clicking on any folder will bring me to basically the same blank screen, with green loading bar as you see below. I ran an anti-malware and anti-virus check, and that didn't uncover anything.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got Toshiba L50-A-19N half of a year old and it started to load everything really slowly or is not responding for a short period of time (acts like frozen for 2-3 second, something like spike). I've done Chkdsk, Memory Diagnose tool, defragmentation. Scanned PC with McAfee, Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. Also reinstalled Windows but nothing worked. Disk seems to be in good health according to Toshiba Health Center and the CPU is not hot, neither used (7% usage and i still get spikes)...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI get this RunDLL (Not Responding) message box every time I restart the computer. The rest of the message says "There was a problem starting C:UsersSHERRYAppDataLocalConduitBackgroundContainerBackground Container.dll The specified module could not be found." I have included a snip .png of the message box.
I will attach this information as a .pdf file, if interested. The files instructed to be deleted in the 'regedit' would not delete at all. And I still don't know if I was intended to delete the the entire folder with sub-folders, but since they couldn't be deleted it doesn't matter. These folders and the files listed in them did not seem to have anything to do with Conduit Ltd. A couple of these 'Regedit' folders were not even listed.
By hanging i mean all programs stop responding however videos, file transfers and things that are already going on (anti virus scan, etc) still go on. I have to force shut down my computer (hold the power button).
This happens about 10-20 mins after starting up my computer.
PS I ran all kinds of anti malware, anti adware, anti virus, anti autoexec, anti phising, and more. Something weird i noticed is that something (a program i assume) always tries to put off my auto updates but winpatrol detects it and i never allow it to make those changes.
Malwarebytes found 5, but by the time it found those 5, ALL programs were hung up including malwarebytes. Spywareterminator found 11, same problem, it got hung up.
I have an issue with Windows 8. Whenever I have used past Windows operating systems, left clicking on a window in the background only brought that window to the front. However, with Windows 8, when I click on a background window to bring it to the front, the window that I am trying to bring front responds to the click on the page. How do I make it so that when I click anywhere on a background window, it ONLY brings it front and does not respond to the click?
View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently my monitor stopped responding after being turned off (after 15 minutes). It didn't happen before. I don't know what to do. Should I disable turning off the monitor altogether? I lose all my work when this happens because the only way to get the laptop working again is to press the power button which restarts the computer although the settings are actually that it should go into hibernation when I press the power button, which it does if the display is working, but if it stops responding it restarts the laptop. No other keys work or do anything when this happens.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSuddenly every time i try to browse Downloads folder, explorer.exe freeze and stuck in not responding. Task manager shows 50% in cpu, and memory usage just keep getting bigger.
I have tried booting into safe mode, and i could browse the same folder. But after i get out from that folder and try to open it again, it freezes again.
I have tried cccleaner, but no luck there. I am using windows 8 pro x64 with 8gb of ram.
It happened randomly a few times in the past, but not every time like now. Didn't installed anything new for few days. And the constant freeze started today.
Last night my wife's laptop couldn't connect to the internet. Error message was DNS servers not responding. I unplug power cables and Ethernet cables from cable modem and router (WRT54GL DD-WRT). That didn't seem to work. Today, she was able to get on certain text heavy websites. The WiFi icon said that she had internet access, but still very limited access and slow. I try DNS Release from router's setup page and DNS Renew. I also tried to release and renew through command prompt, but nothing has worked. I can get full access if I bypass the router and connect to my Desktop. Is my router dieing?
Here is my Desktop's ipconfig /all when connected to the router:

Twice in last 2 weeks, some of my tiles (Games, Bing News, Store, People, Mail, etc.) have just stopped responding. When clicked, I get a blank screen, then the full Start Screen re-appears.Other tiles such as Chrome, Word and Outlook work OK.When this first happened, I did a system restore, and the problem went away, but this time the restore point seems to have gone too.The 'Change PC Settings' does not work either, as I decided to try a complete refresh, but can't access that.

I have to close the program and reopen it. I have a music composer that loses the information but You tube video's are not a major issue.
I saw the other thread here about "Windows 8 Pro Randomly Freezing," but I think I'm seeing something slightly different. In my case, I'm getting random, repeated instances of various desktop applications temporarily "locking up" and displaying a "Not Responding" message in the title bar of the effected app.
I see this most commonly in Firefox (32-bit version, v17.0 release). These lock-ups last roughly a minute. It seems to minimize the Firefox window (yes, even when not responding, window controls are operative) and then restore it. It will still display the "Not Responding" message, but this seems to clear within 10 or 15 seconds. Not sure this is a fix, and it could be coincidental.
While I initially thought my problem was Firefox, I'm seeing it in other apps, including Evernote and Windows Explorer. I think on a couple of occasions I actually saw this "Not Responding" message appear in dialog boxes.
i come across a little issue with windows 8, skype stops responding then once skype stops responding everything else just laggs with it, but by the time i get windows taskmanager open to close other apps it just responds normally. is there a way i can speed up windows 8? i stopped about 14 apps from startup that i thought was the problem then my computer just came up with the same not responding thing for windows 8 skype desktop application not background application, is it because i have a third party app for microsoft ? or should i swich back to the default skype? i don't like the default skype but if i have to use it i will. if there is any tweaks to make windows 8 apps always respond quicker

I'm getting this error again and again, mainly in games. (Which seems logic, they use the graphics card most) Games without DX11 will continue after a black screen has occured, but at very low FPS.
Games with DX11 will just crash and stop working after the same black screen.
