Clock In Taskbar Stuck
Jan 4, 2013Why the clock stops in taskbar.

I finally took the leap last week and installed a new HD and installed Windows 8 64bit on it. I've been using it and accessing my old apps on my vista drive as well. Today Windows encouraged me to upgrade to Win 8.1, which I did. Now, all the stuff I painstakingly pinned to my taskbar is gone. I have tried to repin it but it says it is already pinned. I have unpinned and repinned, but it still does not show up. In addition, the clock is missing.
I'd really like the use of that desktop/taskbar back.
The time is not shown correctly in my task bar, this happened for second time, when it happened a month ago, I just changed the time.
When I re-booted it shows the correct time.
There are some times when I close a ModernUI app using a method that may not be common, in this case, the Windows Task Manager.
So I would load a ModernUI app, for example... PC Settings. I would then load the Windows Task Manager (the built-in one, not a third-part task manager such as Process Explorer by SysInternals). I would then find the program's task and then right-click on it and choose "End task". The full-screen window disappears as you would expect it to disappear but here's where the bug shows, the icon for PC Settings still stays in the Task Bar. I have to hover over the icon with my mouse, let Aero Peek appear, and then click the X button there to have the icon disappear from the Task Bar.
This also happens when I close an app when the app is windowed using ModernMix.
Sometimes I have to close an app this way because it locked up. I mentioned PC Settings because this seems to be an app that leaves its icon behind on the Task Bar when you force close the task in Task Manager.
This doesn't always happen, it seems that at random this bug will happen. It's like the taskbar isn't informed of the closure of the ModernUI app.
Sometimes when I disconnect my wifi and try to swap networks sometime later on, the menu doesn't pop up when I hit the network icon on the taskbar!
Also when I try accessing it through the Control Panel, it's as if my wifi is off and no networks are shown! I've tried closing explorer and restarting it, I've even logged off and tried, but in vain. The only thing that works is restarting my PC, and then it works.
Before a fresh reinstall of Steam.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 8 and like that Microsoft decided to extend the task bar to my secondary monitor. However, I think they should take it one step further. Why can't we have the clock on both of the taskbars as well? Picture this scenario:
You got up at 7am and have class at 9:30am. With 2 and a half hours of free time, you decide to play Skyrim. However, because Skyrim runs full screen, you can't easily view the clock unless you either alt-tab out or (if you are running Steam) shift-tab to bring up the game overlay. You could also find a desktop gadget to stick on your other monitor, but why not simply duplicate the notification tray and system clock onto the other monitor.
My client has Windows 8 installed (with Windows 7 desktop, lolwut?), it's connected to the internet.
The clock changes every 10 minutes, despite being synchronised to internet time.
Here's some extra, straight forward information;
Machine - HP Pavilion G6
Time setting - London
Problem - Clock (System Time) keeps changing incorrectly after about 10 to 30 minutes.
I keep getting Clock Watchdog Timeout and it is pretty annoying because the only way to get rid of that pesky blue screen is to turn the power strip off and then my clock, printer, TV, lamp and everything goes off. Is there a problem with my CPU or drivers??

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am tired of having a computer in my bedroom waking up sometimes multiple times in the morning hours--like approximately 3 or 4 A.M. Support people have tried to stop this operation but to no avail. It still is doing it although less frequently now. This morning at 3:14 A.M., it woke up automatically and then shut down a few minutes later.
In Event Viewer it said at 3:14 A.M.: The system time has changed to 2013-10-06T10:14:28.500000000Z from 2013-10-06T06:11:17.671868600Z. Change Reason: System time synchronized with the hardware clock. I attached a screen shot of the info in Event Viewer, for your reference.
Why does the computer have to do this at 3:14 A.M.? Can't this occur some other time like during the day when the computer is running?
Win 8 clock app that will run in a small size on top of other Win 8 apps?
It's one thing that I really miss having (you can only see the Taskbar clock when working on Desktop Apps)
Any software to either enlarge the tray desktop clock display or replace it? I know I can hover the mouse on Settings to get the large panel display. But I'd rather just be able to read it. Of course I'm looking for freeware.
View 9 Replies View RelatedBit of a strange problem here windows clock keeps resetting time after every reboot it still stays in the same time zone just changes the clock.
Iv'e changed the CMOS battery and the BIOS time is correct.
It did this on Windows 8 and still doing it on windows 8.1.
As above - i get these two errors sometimes when I'm merely surfing the web.. or when i'm editing photos in lightroom as well.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop went lagging while i was using it, so i restarted my laptop. After that, my laptop went into a mode that i have never experienced before. I clicked advanced setting, It made me choose either to restore it, reset it, and another one but i can't remember it. I chose the reset button, and currently it is stuck on RESET YOU PC. And its taking a very long time. I don't have my recovery disc or drive. I saved it before on a flash drive, unfortunately it died.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI run a copy of Windows 8 in a Bootcamp partition on my Macbook Pro and stupidly deleted the Windows.old folder manually rather than through the disk cleanup and now Windows 8 wont startup. I now get stuck in the Auto Repair and none of the Advanced features seem to work.
I originally installed via a Windows 8 upgrade bootable USB and that isn't being recognised by the Auto Repair when i try to restore.
I don't mind losing the data in the partition (i only use it to run a Windows program needed for work), but the issue here is that i don't have an original Win7 image anywhere to reinstall - only the Windows 8 Upgrade bootable USB thumb.
Is there any way i can fix this without having to find a full image of either Win7 or Windows 8 and reinstalling from scratch? Is it failing to boot up because for some reason things were still pointing to the Windows.old folder?
My laptop won't start it's stuck in a restart loop and gives me an error message saying there were a problem and it needs to restart, but it does the same thing when it restarts again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBeen running 8.1 since it was released, and everything seems fine, except for one recurring bug that I'm having. My metro app switcher bar (the one on the left hand side of the screen) gets "stuck" and the won't pop out to show the running apps. Obviously, a reboot brings it back.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn my windows 8 pc on it shows the Windows icon with the little thing swirling around it, however if I click go to set up it sends me to the same page but says preparing automatic repair. This page has been up for over 2 hours with no progress, any support? - I have windows 8.1 for some weeks. every thing works fine
- today after going to sleep mode I can not start windows. it goes to a black screen after windows logo and restarts won't work.
- Tried the 'fixmbr' thing on command prompt from windows startup repair.
- Windows startup repair obviously finds nothing
- tried refreshing pc from startup repair but after a few minutes it said that it has failed refreshing
- Tried forcing windows to go to "safe mode" by using command prompt but the same thing
Any solution except formatting and reinstalling windows? My laptop is a custom CLEVO p150hm1.
I have a pretty new computer. Just a few months old. It is supposed to be a good one.
Dell XPS 8500
Quad core i7 processor
lots of memory and extras
This computer also has the 64 bit edition of Windows 8 installed on it. Windows 8 is driving me up the wall!!! I have had numerous problems with it since day 1.
As recently as a few days ago, my system was running reasonably okay. Then I downloaded a driver for my network card from the dell.com website. From that point on, I cannot get my computer to boot up properly. I have turned my computer off and on multiple times in hopes that it would correct whatever is wrong.
When I first turn my PC on, it will stay stuck at the Dell logo window for a while.
Sometimes it will make it past that and it will give me an error message that says:
"error sending end of post message to ME, system HALT!"
Also, I sometimes get a message which says:
"the last USB device you connected to the computer malfunctioned, and Windows did not recognize it.
Try reconnecting the device. If windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly."
This is insanity. I have NOT connected any new USB devices to my computer.
I do not know what to do. I figured that the easiest thing might be to try simply reinstalling Windows 8 from scratch. So I inserted my Windows 8 reinstall disk that Dell sent me when I bought this thing. However, my computer will not boot from this disk. So I guess I am stuck.
I don't know why but it has randomly started doing this in this order-
1. I turn it on, it does the normal start up screen of "Toshiba" and the loading animation underneath.
2. After a long time of waiting it takes me to a black screen. It stays that way for about 5 minutes, sometimes it does not do this and skips to:
3. Blue screen of death. It tells me it is going to restart and stays on this screen for less than a second. It repeats all 3 of these steps and does not stop.
Toshiba Satellite L850D-12P
Windows 8
I was casually using my pc and it suddenly shutdown. I tried to restart it, but it's stuck on black screen. Here's the thing there was no windows logo or no bios or no nothing appeared on the screen. It just goes black even if I restart it a hundred times. I am sure the cables of the monitor are fine and I am also sure that there are signals coming from the pc.
P. S. I even ASSUMED that the pc must have switched on and typed password to login and waited enough to get it to sleep mode and then recover from there. But still no luck.
