I logged into my microsoft account on my Windows 8 laptop and when i turn it on again, the laptop cant connect to my home wifi automatically so i cant log into my microsoft account on my laptop because it requires an internet connection. So I am now locked out of my laptop. I dont know what to do.
View 3 RepliesI've setup my machine to enable PIN login (I find it quite convenient as the computer is 99% of the time in my home and 4 digit PIN is enough to discourage family from tinkering with my machine but easy enough to quickly unlock - I had 3 letter pass on my win 7) but I'm facing an issue - often, even tho I've previously selected PIN windows 8 default to password after computer wake up (even after short sleep) which is annoying because of muscle memory (swipe lockscreen, enter pin - when it's password I have to remove it, change to PIN and so on).
How to force using PIN by default at every login/unlock?
In Windows8 sl-SI, I have no option Add features to Windows. I think it is locked. Is it possible to unlock this feature?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen i don't use Windows 8 for about 20 minutes, it literally locks up and even though i can see the screen, the key board and mouse are functionless.
And all the while i thought it was my KVM switch, and so i disconnected the KVM mouse and keyboard, but continued using the screen KVM switch and that's when i realized, its not a KVM switch problem, its a Windows 8 problem or Windows 8 setting.
I have just tried to Refresh my Windows 8.1 installation, but when running the refresh Windows 8.1 came up with an error I have not seen before, let alone do the refresh.
It displayed a message saying "The Drive is Locked, you will have to unlock the drive to continue" so HOW do you unlock a Hard Drive?
How to do this before I either pull my hair out, or start from scratch and re-format the drive and do a complete new install of Windows 8.1
One thing I have done about a week ago which may be causing this problem is I converted the Drive from MBR to GPT and if this has locked the drive.
I somehow locked the keyboard on an hp 3125 netbook that runs Windows 8. What is the command to unlock the keyboard? I tried the fn(function keys) with no success.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem connecting my laptop to an external monitor. I've encountered this problem a few times now. My external monitor will just stop working one day, and the only way I've found to fix it is to delete the keys located in the EFI partition.
After the keys are deleted I can reset EFI in the BIOS and the monitor will then be detected by Windows. It's getting to be really annoying having to reset EFI every couple days. So, I decided to see if I could unlock the EFI partition and try to remedy this problem.
So far I managed to set the partition as a basic data partition using SET ID=ebd0a0a2-b9e5-4433-87c0-68b6b72699c7
Next, I assigned it a drive letter. But if I try to explore the contents I get an error saying "I don't have permission".
How to assign the correct permissions??
I have a Gateway laptop running Windows 8. I have an auto diagnostics program called Auto Enginuity that I have "add ons" purchased for, when I type to put in the feature unlock key, after a couple days it will no longer be activated. Then when I installed the 8.1 update it will no longer accept the activation key, I can type the key in and it does not hold it. On the same note, I'm running Microsoft Streets and Trips gps software and when I go to update it,it updates like normal but after the update it still says update needed, like it doesn't "hold" any updates or key codes that I install.

Here's what happened:
I've never had a password and choose during the win install to have 1 local account without password.
I used to have a user/login name with an non ascii character (é), and it was causing me some trouble. Hence I decided to change it with ascii only characters. Control Panel, users etc ... properties, changed the name of the local user.
Reboot, and boom, Windows asks me for a password and is displaying the former user name !! But there's no option to change the user name, I've read that there should be a back arrow but it's not here (probably because windows "thinks" there's no point since there is only 1 user).
I don't know what to do, I used a Linux live usb distro to use some tools that can reset password and unlock account, however:
1/ it can only reset password, which seems not to be the issue here, the issue is the wrong user name
2/ the linux tool shows 1 local user with the last update name
So I'm guessing windows is not using the proper name to login, but doesn't provide any mean to change it.
How can I unlock my hard drive from my command prompt? If I can do it using it. Because I try the auto repair, refresh my pc leaving everything intact, but when I did that it told me that my driver is lock. How do I unlock it using the advance options that the Windows 8 cd brings?. It said something about boot bcd.

I have been unsuccessful at building a WinPE image that provides BitLocker support. I searched around the internet and found many posts. Eventually, I ended up trying to build it with the various added packages I discovered in the various posts. However, in the end, none worked and this is the message I am getting after booting into my WinPE environment:

The instruction at 0xa20afa3b referenced memory at 0x0000013d.
The memory could not be read.
Click on OK to terminate the program
Here are the commands I eventually ended up using to build my WinPE image:

I can't get the custom sounds that I've set are not working. I do have the custom startup soind working but that's it.

I brought an Acer Revo Nettop PC on Ebay , the PC is running Windows 8 but the seller didnt restore the PC so i have his log on appear at the Windows log on screen.
He wont provide me his password so i can log on and restore and clean up the PC and to remove him and add myself. The PC doesnt has a disk drive as its a Nettop so i cant user a restore disk or anything.
I have multiple accounts on my laptop, all of which have admin rights. I wish to know the history of logins into my account. I created a custom view in the even viewer, but it seems( from the result) that my account was never logged in !!
How is it possible when I am actually viewing the event viewer from my account? Is it because I leave my account always signed in, and just lock it instead of logging off?

SFC scannow fixed the issue for awhile then i got force logout then i login the same issue reappear... I dont feel like doing fresh install ...
I updated my Windows 8 to 8.1 version, and after I installed recommended updates for 8.1, my laptop restarted and from that time I cant log in anymore, when i type anything it says wrong password or username, but when i type correct it says Invalid pointer, and now i cant nothing, i cant even start in safe mode.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn on my computer, I get to the login screen, click in the field and type in my password. When the login completes, my cursor disappears. I can still see it highlighting things I mouse-over, I can click on things and right click and do everything normally except for the fact that I cannot actually see the cursor. If I Ctrl Alt Del, the mouse is again visible, but as soon as I got back to to desktop or start screen, the cursor goes invisible again. I have tried messing with the mouse trails and enlarging the cursor, selecting a different cursor, re installing drivers and system restore however, system restore was not successful.
When I try to do a system restore, it says that windows is missing files but that I may insert my installation disk to recover these files. Upon doing so, it says my disk in invalid. The disk is in perfect condition and is the exact disk I used to install windows in the first place. At this point the mouse is still invisible. I then went to My Computer and ran the disk from there. Out of nowhere, the cursor appears and everything seems to be normal. After turning the computer off and back on however, the cursor again disappears until I run my windows installation disk. I've tried this 3 times now and every time inserting the disk causes the cursor to reappear. My theory (which may be wildly incorrect) is that when running the installation disk, it loads the proper files into the RAM which allows my cursor to be visible. As soon as the computer looses power, those files are gone and thus the cursor is no longer visible. This makes sense, (at least to me) except for the fact that the cursor is visible on both the login screen and in the Ctrl Alt Del screen.

After installing a game of Minecraft he claims that around that time, the computer has not been able to boot. So he brought it over to me, and I'm not to familiar with Windows 8. So I try turning on the laptop and it freezes at the login screen. It has his username, and the little loading screen like its trying to load the account, then it freezes and it stops there. So what I'm trying to do is a system restore to an earlier time. Maybe even to boot into safe mode. How to access System Restore is to hold shift while restarting the computer. Except I can't access the computer. It doesn't go past the login screen. I can go into the BIOS, but nothing else. Any method were I can do something to access system recovery another way? What I can do besides a system restore? But simply put.. Turn on, goes past the Asus loading screen, gets to login screen, username is displayed. Computer freezes. Sometimes it just goes to a black screen and stops there.

1) set up computer account OK using existing hotmail account - accesses email Ok
2) reach stage of wanting to transfer user files from external hard disk
3) notice that top-level user directory and below on new machine are all read-only so figure I should turn that off
4) system starts changing attributes for hundreds(?) of files - I was only expecting a few directories to be affected so I cancel that process and set all back to read-only and load user files
5) BUT... accessing email from the start page now just hangs - sits there with the rotating circles - everything else functioning OK
6) ran out of time so figure I'll investigate later - turn off system
7) now try to login on startup and after accepting account password it just sits there. Occasionally the start screen (with blank icons) is flashed up very briefly.
8) Do some of the files under the user directory need to have write access? But how can I now gain access to them if I can't get into the machine?
I upgrade my Window 8 to 8.1 and now, I cannot log in! I write my credentials and try log in but to 2 seconds, log out. I try with different users and always same.
