Browsers/Mail :: Why Don't Browser Back Buttons Use The Cache
Oct 29, 2013
I don't get it. I'm on a page. I click a link. I only stay on the new page for maybe 5 seconds. I click the Back Button. I get "connecting" like the word will change in 5 seconds? There's like zero efficiency. I think there should be a setting.
I'm currently on Waterfox 24.0. Pretty nice browser. But it's bizarre that something built for speed makes you wait on every Back Button press.
right clicking on the browser back button doesn't achieve anything - I'm really used to it popping down a list of the previous pages so I can hop back for example to the search engine results list page which I had about four pages ago etc.
Any way of deleting all the alleged 'Frequent' buttons from the foot of the screen when I go into IE. Obviously I've tried deleting them individually but they insist on returning. Ideally I'd like to get rid of 'Frequent' itself so more of my genuine 'Favourites' would show.
Is there a way to clear all data, cache... upon opening a browser. I have ccleaner which removes all data so I need to find a way of executing a clean when i press my browser button.
Why I want to do this as i watch alot of catch up and live tv & in my experience it works smoothly if you clear data, cache... before you start the streaming.
I have 2 browsers on my pc. chrome which i only use for non streaming purposes and opera which I use only for video streaming.
After deleting the Browser Choice I keep getting the stupid prompt again the next time I log on to the Internet from INSIDE an EU country the wretched prompt appears again.
Is there any way to disable this POS PERMANENTLY -- I often travel from Outside the EU to inside it.
This stupid Browser prompt must be one of the most idiotic pieces of legislation Politicians ever had to deal with (and I've seen enough stupid politicians in my time).
I recently encountered a problem where my browsers (IE and Firefox) and email stopped working. I know I have an internet connection - I can ping Google for example. And I have other laptops that are working fine. The weird thing is when I reboot I can sometimes use the browser or email but after a couple of minutes it stops again (stuck in waiting for google.com). This has been going on for a week now. I tried restoring from earlier but still doesn't work. I've tried resetting DNS and WINSOCK and TCP - makes no difference. I'm running Norton and Malwarebytes.

I am getting REALLY sick and tired of my web browser crashing every 10 minutes and wiping everything I've done. Well Done Windows, another completely rubbish product that doesn't even work. Do you even try any more to make something of quality? Or just put out whatever you managed to come up with in your spare time not even putting any work into the products you make. Windows 8
I just installed windows 8 and thought everything was fine. But then when I went to download a driver from the internet, I figured out it really isn't. I have Atheros AR8151 gigabit network adapter installed in my Sony Vaio, and it had been disabled automatically, I had to download driver from its own site and install it. After that it didnt get disabled on its own and when I could finally access internet, I was shocked once again.
I tried to download a bluetooth driver from Sony's website but no matter what browser or download manager I tried to download it from, it wouldn't I thought it was limited to just that website and went on to download another driver but it wouldn't either. On chrome it would start as usual download and eventually decrease the speed until the error was shown, while the download speed was going down, the ETA and downloaded size didn't change.
And while using Firefox it started the download as usual but after a while it would freeze and i had to press pause and play to get it downloading but the freezing thing happened too much(chrome wouldn't respond to pause and play). Then i tried a download manager and it showed similar problem as Firefox. The thing is I can browse the internet perfectly fine although it feels a bit slow, the problem is i cant download anything.
I bought a cheap Gateway, downloaded Firefox and got all kinds of junk with it. I ended up returning the Gateway for a better computer a ASUS and I've installed everything but Firefox. I'm scared to download it. Last time it took me 3 hrs plus virus and malware scans to get rid of all the junk that came with it.
Where and how I can get a clean copy of Firefox browser?
I also downloaded "open office" and got even more junk. Now with this new computer which I love, I don't want any of that junk.
I am using Incredimail, but when I click on any links in received emails they no longer open up Internet Explorer 11. Nothing happens at all.
I have not made any changes recently, and up to a couple of weeks ago they worked okay. I have run virus and spyware checks and tried system restore, but no joy.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Incredimail, but no joy. Made sure file associations are set to open IE11, still no joy.

I've been using Windows 8 since the Developer preview and I've had no problems with it until now.
I recently got fed up with Firefox (for being too slow, and buggy). so I installed Chromium (not chrome. Chromium, the open source version of Google chrome without that spyware Google puts in it's browser)
But I have a big problem with it - I can't set it as my default browser. If I go to the settings and and click the big button that says "Make Chromium your default browser" all I get is this.
Code: How would you like to open this type of a link (http)?Keep using: NightlyInternet ExploderFind apps from the store
I've seen many tutorials about adding default software, but for some reason chromium isn't listed in the "default apps" section of control panel. Is there a way to navigate to a certain .exe to add it as a default?
I got a HP Envy m6 Sleekbook laptop about three months ago. I installed Firefox and Chrome right away, although I used Firefox almost exclusively.
After about a month, Firefox just stopped working. I would click the icon, and it would light up (and the blue circle would appear over the cursor) as if it was about to open, but after a few seconds it stopped loading and the icon went back to normal, as if I had never clicked it. It just kind of... gave up. I restarted the computer and tried opening it from a different shortcut, and then directly from the file, but the problem persisted.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox twice, but it didn't solve the issue. Finally, I abandoned Firefox and switched to using Chrome.
Now, after using Chrome without a hitch for almost two months, Chrome has spontaneously started exactly the same behavior- BUT now I can open Firefox.
I'd really like to keep using Chrome, since I finally had it set up the way I like (I have quite a few bookmarks and quirky little preferences).
For some reason or other I can no longer access my email account Outlook.com (known formerly as Hotmail.com) when using the Internet Explorer10 browser, it will not go to the sign in window, although I can access the account by using the "InPrivate Browsing" option in IE10.
Not a huge problem as I can and do use another browser most of the time. I am curious as to why this has occurred more than anything?
New Windows 8.1 laptop. Any time I upload a file in a browser it crashes within seconds. It doesn't matter if I use Opera, Chrome or Firefox.
Also, some applications crash directly after launching them such as SmartFTP, SnagIt Editor and Jing crashes when I save a file. Also, when opening This PC in a file upload dialog sometimes it will keep loading for hours.
I've tried to get more information by clicking Debug after a crash and here are some of the errors I've noticed:
Code: Unhandled exception at 0x66AAF19F (apphelp.dll) in opera.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x0C9E0DA8.Unhandled exception at 0x7720A604 (msvcrt.dll) in Jing.exe: 0xC00000FD: Stack overflow (parameters: 0x00000001, 0x0F6E2FFC).
I've already performed "sfc /scannow" without any issues, reinstalled all software that has these issues , installed all available Windows updates and generally tried applying different settings but nothing seems to work..
I just noticed today that my windows 8 mail app (the standard one from ms) was no longer showing me notifications when email arrived. I went over to the app and noticed that the google syncing had changed and required me to re-authenticate my google account to it. That went fine. Then I noticed that my exchange account is now missing from the app (not in the mailbox view, nor is it in the list of accounts). However, when I try to add my exchange account, it says "You've already added this account". Is there anywhere else I can remove the exchange account or somehow get it show up again in the mail app?
Wasn't there supposed to be the swipe back option for the desktop version of IE11? I tried finding an option to turn in on in the advanced settings, but don't see anything there.
On the desktop version of internet explorer I can right click on the back button and choose which page I would like to go back to. I can't find this option anywhere in the retro version.
Anyway to transfer back to the old Yahoo Classic ?
I have "googled" the issue but most possible solutions are outdated. One older solution was changing the screen resolution which supposedly transfers back to the Classic but this did not work.
I personally have not experienced any issues with the new Yahoo Mail as stated below, but just prefer the Classic format.

I Google a subject and get a list of sites, select one and read. To return to the list I click the back-button, the screen goes blank and I have to press the 'windows' key and select Google again which brings the list back on screen. Frustrating waste of time. How can I activate the back-button?
Running windows 8.1 and i use 3 browsers, my main (default) is Opera, the issues i have are opera is set as default browser in opera settings, but for instance when checking emails say overclockers uk i see something catches my eye, i click it and link opens in opera, not in win 8.1, it pops a box up asking how do you want to open this type of link, firefox, google chrome or look for app in dam app store [URL] ....

I was using my Gmail account with the Windows 8 Mail App and it was all working fine until I updated it through the store yesterday (I haven't updated it before so I don't know what version of the app I am now using). Today when I try and access my folders I just getting a message saying 'no messages from the last 2 weeks', meaning I cannot access all those useful emails that I have kept on purpose without using gmail through chrome. I have looked through the settings and cannot find if there is a way to change this - is there? Or can I un-install the update and just go back to using the old version, and if so, how would I do this.
