BootCamp Windows 8.1 On MacBook
Aug 19, 2014
Issue: I need to boot camp Windows 8.1 onto my Macbook for school software.
Details:
A) I purchased the downloadable version of Windows. [URL] ....
Note how they do identify it as a full version, although they say that Windows XP and Vista can not access it.
B) I now have the .exe file for downloading Windows and the product key. Macs can't use .exe files.
C) The most straightforward course of action is to transfer the .exe file to a USB, complete the download as an .iso, and bring it back to the mac to bootcamp with the .iso. Unfortunately, I don't have access to ANYONE nearby with Windows 7 or up.
My family whom I live with use macs. My brother's coworkers in a software firm ALL use macs.
The PCs at my college and at the library don't grant me administrator privileges, so I can't do it there.
What do I do? Are there any workarounds or viable alternatives? I've experimented with Wine and VMware a bit, as well as using this shoddy little laptop with windows XP, but nothing seems to have worked out.

I currently have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display and want to install Windows 8.1 in virtual box. I went to the MS website and was a little confused about the options. They told me to purchase the Windows 8 Pro and after the purchase, I would be able to download the file for virtual box. I did all this. The downloadable file turned out to be an .exe file that I can't run on my Mac and I need the full iso for virtual box.
There are so many people that somehow manage to install Windows on their Macs using Parallels, Boot Camp, Virtualbox, etc. - its not like I'm the first one. It doesn't seem like I can get an ISO any other way except as a torrent.

how to get Windows 8 running properly on a MacBook Pro (or in general any Mac that supports BootCamp).
Everything runs kind of smoothly, except since Apple doesn't "Officially Support" Windows 8, out of the gate I wasn't able to get a few things working. Unfortunately, the driver disc that Apple provides to you doesn't install officially because I was "not running Windows 7."
I am using a MacBook Pro, early 2010. 2.4ghz Core2Duo, 4gb of RAM and a 1tb HDD.
Not working
Volume Buttons
Brightness Buttons
Eject button
2-Finger Scroll
I'll update later once I am out of class, but those are some things I've run into.

I installed Windows on my friends MacBook Air using Bootcamp a few months ago. At that time I made a Windows Image to an external hard drive, not really sure if it was even feasible to restore it. How to do a restore in a situation like this, or if it is possible?

I have been trying to remote into my Windows 8.1 desktop from outside my home network using the RDC program for Apple.
The basic setup from within the home network works fine. I turned on the port forwarding and DNS stuff on my ASUS router and that worked fine from within my homework network. When I go outside my home network, it get to the certificate message and then throws a tsl1_alert_internal_error and dies.

So I'm using a late 2012 iMAC running bootcamp with Win 8 64 bit system builder version. I just installed the OS hours ago and have already run into BSOD problems, I was directed to these forums and post before I try to do anything else and cause more issues. Every time my computer powers back up from going to sleep it crashes and gives me a system error for memory exception and shows the file name igdkmd64.sys. Like I said before long time apple user that started using windows again.

I am using bootcamp to run windows 7 on my mac. I recently used the windows 8 upgrade assistant to purchase windows 8. I received a product key and an .iso file but I decided to wait until a upgraded. Today my windows 7 crashed and I am unable to boot windows 7 anymore and i have a 'Missing Operating System' error. I have tried to recover windows 7 without success. So my question is: Can I install windows 8 on my mac through bootcamp by using a purchased upgrade key and if so how would i do it? I only have the windows 8 pro upgrade key which I had a backup of before the crash and i do not have the .iso file. Also would I still be able to use the upgrade key even though I am unable to access windows 7?

so, windows thought it would be great to drop any information on my apple wireless keyboard, it just up and disappeared from bluetooth, and when i try to re-pair it, all i get is the it didn't work error, and that i should try again, but when i try to pair it again, windows doesn't see the keyboard, it just becomes invisible, can't pair, if i restart, windows sees the keyboard, but same process (error during pair, keyboard disappears) i'm guessing i can't use it now, unless there's something i'm not doing right?

My system is a Windows 8 x64 Pro with Boot Camp 5 running on a 2011 Macbook Pro. I'm experiencing Windows crashes and distorted screen images with artifacts (see attachment #1) almost every time I start programs that require heavy video-processing (e.g.: games). The problem also happens, even if rarely, at random without doing anything particular.
This is what is shown in the debug trace of MEMORY.DMP:
Code: Microsoft (R) Windows Debugger Version 6.2.9200.20512 AMD64Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.Loading Dump File [C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP]Kernel Bitmap Dump File: Only kernel address space is availableSymbol search path is: srv*f:symbolswebsymbols

As you see, it really looks like a video card problem related to atikmpag.sys. I think in cases like this the first thing to try is updating the drivers but unfortunately, since I'm running Windows on Boot Camp, it looks like there aren't suitable drivers apart from the ones I'm already using. I tried to install the ATI CCC 12.8 beta 2 (that is the only thing that I can run) that seem to suit my system, but that didn't work.
I have been suggested to look into the power settings of the video card (because they may lead to system instability), and specifically I tried playing a bit with the AMD PowerPlay - Technology in the CCC. Anyway, when I open the tab, the lists show up as blank and there is really no option I can work on (see attachment #2). It looks like my video card doesn't support this feature, even if I think it definitely should like it says in the AMD page: AMD PowerPlay.

When Windows 8 menu appears on start and I choose W7 - instead of loading W7directly , the computer is new-starting again and only than starts w7. That's a funny "behaviour"....
Also, after starting the computer, the menu is not directly shown up, first is this turning wi8 circle (like in the setup) and only about 30 sec. later comes the menu. I am using windows 8 enterprise, test version.

Have a question regarding "Local Account". I'm having problems connecting to the Win 8 laptop from Win 7 as it will not accept my sign in credentials. With that, am I to assume that this is because the credential aren't "Local", and thus this is what this is for???
It will not accept the "Microsoft" account I use to log into Win 8 laptop.
With that, if I choose to go with the "local account" can I easily switch back to the Microsoft one?

I have a few questions about dual booting windows 7 and windows 8 preinstalled (UEFI) on my Dell laptop.
1. Can I install a non-UEFI version of Windows 7 on my laptop, if so how?
2. Will installing a non-UEFI version of Windows 7 on my laptop break it?
3. Can I use EasyBCD for UEFI?
4. How do I create a UEFI windows 7?

In a few days I will receive a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon with Windows 8 installed. And separately I will receive an OEM Win7. Win7 is certainly what I intend to use, and I had originally thought I would wipe out Windows 8 and install Win7. But now I am wondering if I can somehow preserve Windows 8 for occasional use. (I would have ordered the machine with Win7 but this is a refurbished machine.)
I would rather not have to understand UEFI. (I'm sure it would be interesting, I just have other things to do with my time.) And, although I do it sometimes, and will if I have to, I do not like diddling with BIOS settings.
I know that factory installed operating systems generally can't be moved to other machines. And I fear that the factory installed Windows 8 that I will receive may not even tolerate being installed, e.g., in a smaller partition or under something like VMware (another complication I'd like to avoid).

I have a Samsung Series 5, 530U (the remaining digits I don't recall right now).
I purchased it from a digital superstore, like a market, rather than a regular PC store.
The device is set for Windows 7, although on purchase, I asked for Windows 8 to be installed.
Now, a BSOD has stopped me gaining access through refreshing, restarting, safe mode or any of the options available through the troubleshooting menu.
I retrieved my data using a SATA, and now wish to wipe the system of Windows 8, and avoid all the hassle it has brought me, returning to it's factory settings of W7.
I do not have a disk, or anything to do so. When I go through the menu on start-up, I click 'restore system' but I am then prompted for 'recovery mdeia or installation disk'.
Is it possible to just reset the whole PC and start from the day it left the factory?
If I need a disk to reset the original settings, where can I get it from and would simply loading it when prompted fix my problem?
All I want is to be able to use my own PC. I want Windows 8 cleared off and a reliable, original settings PC.

I have 3 user accounts on my windows 8.1 laptop; 2 administrator types and 1 standard local account. While logged in using one of the admin user accounts or the local account, I can access the store app. However, when i log in using the other administrator account and try to access the store app, i just get the spinning circle and nothing happens. Is there something wrong with how one user account is set up that is causing the problem. Do I have to delete the user account and try re-establishing it.

I have recently bought a Windows 8 tablet, and also use a W7 PC. I use Outlook on the PC, and will be using the tablet while on the move, sometimes disconnected. I want to be able to take my emails, contacts, calendar and some documents with me on the tablet.
i intend to use SkyDrive for the documents, and will use the mail app, or install Outlook on the tablet to have a copy of emails on it, but I am not sure how to make sure that contacts and calendar are synchronised on both machines. I use a local to UK mail provider (btinternet).
how to align contacts and calendars across both machines?

I have a fairly new Dell with windows 8.1 on it. Internet explorer stopped working all of a sudden the other day. No warning at all. When I open the desktop version, nothing happens at all. No tab, no pageload, nothing.I can click the gear and only file, safety, and compatibility view settings are available. I have reset internet explorer settings to no avail through internet options. ?I have scanned with a few different tools and nothing has fixed it. Also, the window outline colors have turned to a reddish pink.

My girlfriend has recently got a new laptop and unfortunately she doesn't like it, despite me loving Windows 8.1.
She would like to try Windows 8 but is going back to Uni soon so would like Windows 7 as a back-up dual booted.
I've shrunk the partition and created a simple partition for Windows 7 but really unsure about Installing Windows 7 on a Windows 8 Laptop, it's an ASUS X550CA-XX417H. I've checked power shell with SecureBootUEFI and result is True.
What would be the best way to dual boot?

I did the upgrade from win7 to Windows 8 x64. When I try to use wmp I get audio but no video. I have tried reinstalling my codecs and different codecs like sharks, klite etc. I have reinstalled my graphic drivers. I have tried add/remove features, but no look. Its the same with wmc. I can play videos with quicktime. I was going to try a refresh, but I have way to many programs to reinstall, and a Windows 8 inplace upgrade doesn't offer to keep my apps & settings.
How I can repair or reinstall wmp without wiping out my system and reinstalling all my programs?

How I could go about doing this. Last year I bought a Windows 8 Pro upgrade disc we used to upgrade our machines from Windows 7 home Premium to 8 Pro. Is it possible for me to use that same upgrade product key for Windows 8 Pro on 8.1 so I could have a Pro version of 8.1? The computer I originally did the upgrade on I am no longer using and is there a way to deactivate the license on that one so it could be used on the new computer I bought? Also I just want the extra's of the Pro version so does it matter it is the license for Windows 8 even though the new computer uses 8.1?
