I just updated my Compaq Presario CQ56 Laptop.
It boots to the login screen. I enter my password and the screen goes black with just the mouse cursor on the screen. That is it nothing else happens. CTRL-ALT-DEL does not work. When the mouse goes away and I move it the cursor comes back.
recently, i just changed my laptop's OS to Windows 8 from Vista. My laptop is Compaq Presario F700 and it was originally Vista. But somehow, my laptop cannot access WiFi anymore so right now im using our PC. Also, when i go to PC Settings-->Wireless it says that "No wireless devices are available". I tried downloading a wireless LAN driver in this site: [Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 | HP Support] since Compaq is also from the Hewlett-Packard Company(hp).but after installing it, nothing changed. what should i do?

About five days before that I have reinstalled my Mobile Intel 4 series driver and now in Device manager it shows 3 grayed out monitors which were installed when I have reinstalled the Video driver. The monitor driver that Is currently loaded was installed when I installed the OS itself.

SFC scannow fixed the issue for awhile then i got force logout then i login the same issue reappear... I dont feel like doing fresh install ...
Windows 8 was fine. For Windows 8.1 I had Windows 8 format and do a clean install and then immediately upgraded to 8.1. Now at least half of the time when I boot up after BIOS info and the windows logo shows briefly I see a black screen for 2 to 5 seconds I'd say. Then the lock screen. So after I get to where I can input my password everything is fine.
But I can't figure out why there is this few seconds of black nothing before I can input my password. I can't see that anything is wrong.
I can log in, which takes much longer than ususal, to be taken to the desktop screen. everything is black except for the cursor and the windows icon in the bottom left. Ctrl+Alt+Del gets me to that normal menu and I can open task manager and from there open windows explorer and from there open most programs. I cannot get to the normal home screen, run disks or change tabs.
I have run start-up repair and enabled safe mode to no avail.
I cannot refresh or restart as i bought windows 8 online and have no physical copy of it.
For some reason after I sign into my user on my desktop, A blank screen appears and nothing loads. I tried the avast configuration since I'm using avast but it didnt work. I tried scanning the system in command promp and it says one corrupt ile was repaired...

How to solve Windows 8 black screen problem after login - It didnt work.
I shut down my computer last night. It runs 8.1 and when I shut it down I do not believe it installed updates.i tried to boot it. It boots and after I type in my PIN, shows my desktop for a few seconds. Then, my display will either turn black or a blueish grey. There is no cursor. It does this every reboot now. I can not do anything except reset when it happens.
System info:
Two GTX 760's in SLI
Two Asus monitors
Possible culprits:
1 - I have Actual Multiple Monitors trial installed. The freezing/display blanking seems to happen when the trial time left window shows up, but that may be coincidence.
2 - I heard graphics card driver updates and windows updates can clash in some way and cause a similar issue. From what I've read, a cursor is still on screen and task manager can be opened with CTRL SHIFT ESC. Neither of these work for me.
3- Virus? I have avast so I doubt it.
My Windows8PC shows black screen with only mouse cursor instead of login screen. I tried chkdsk but it shows no errors. Even when i start in safe mode the screen stays black. I think it's a graphic driver problem, but i dont know how i can deactivate or delete the installed driver via cmd.

Screensaver works fine, when I do a CNTRL/SHIFT/ESC the task manager box pops up for a few seconds and disappears. I was able to create another user account and everything works fine, but I need to get my first account working properly ASAP.

If you are in the login screen, the selected language in the right left corner and the internet connection in the left corner. Both of those two signs are flickering in the corners. View 3 Replies View RelatedUpgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro from 8 through the Windows Store. Everything seemed to go smoothly. Updated graphics card drivers prior to install of 8.1. Now whenever I start up, I can log in, but then it goes to a black screen with a cursor. Ctrl-Alt-Del will bring up the task manager and from there I can access programs and get on the internet. So after maybe 5 minutes or so after opening a program (usually firefox) the Metro screen randomly loads. None of the store apps worked, though I was able to find a fix for that. Some of them still don't work right though. Is there a better way to upgrade from 8 other than through the store?

Here's what happened:
I've never had a password and choose during the win install to have 1 local account without password.
I used to have a user/login name with an non ascii character (é), and it was causing me some trouble. Hence I decided to change it with ascii only characters. Control Panel, users etc ... properties, changed the name of the local user.
Reboot, and boom, Windows asks me for a password and is displaying the former user name !! But there's no option to change the user name, I've read that there should be a back arrow but it's not here (probably because windows "thinks" there's no point since there is only 1 user).
I don't know what to do, I used a Linux live usb distro to use some tools that can reset password and unlock account, however:
1/ it can only reset password, which seems not to be the issue here, the issue is the wrong user name
2/ the linux tool shows 1 local user with the last update name
So I'm guessing windows is not using the proper name to login, but doesn't provide any mean to change it.
Just had this new laptop running windows 8 and its an Acer.When I select the photos tile on the screen it goes to another screen which is black with a blue square icon and underneath it tells me that there are no files or folders in this view.There are photos in my picture folder as I just put then in.But if I go to the other method and select the My picture folder the photos are there.

The first 'lockscreen' would appear, but the when I clicked to go to the next screen to log in, all I see is text in the bottom right hand corner telling me about windows updates that will automatically update in two days (I have already installed most of the newest WUs).... Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. . why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?

i have just purchased a new Compaq laptop, Notebook G as i'm aware of the title but unsure, though with the initial setup of the laptop it asks a few questions ie: name, location and login details for Windows, though i get an error message stating that "Windows 8 could not be installed on this device, please try again" or something of the sort.
after a few attempts i have given up.
it appears that it is faulty, though, it is difficult for me to get into a store and request an exchange, is this common?
For some unknown reasons, whenever I tried to install the Wi-fi driver on my laptop, after proceeding setup file agreements nothing happens.
My laptop is compaq 610 and I've tried installing latest drivers downloaded from softpedia.
In the device manager, I got the exclamation mark for wi-fi driver. In properties window, this is showing that device can not start.
I'm administrator for my laptop runs windows8 pro.. I don't want every time have to type my password I tried using netplwiz but failed to do so, as looks as good only for second user ...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the Thinkpad X230t and normally run Windows 8 x64 with touch just fine. I installed the preview version of Windows 8.1 x64 today. The installation completed quite OK.
At the end of the installation, the installer tries to "set up my account" but then says that it cannot do it at this time, and that I can do it later. I said OK, then log on with my usual Microsoft username and password. Once I'm in the desktop, a message popped up saying Windows cannot find my profile in c:windowssystem32 ... a place like that. This message repeats when I tried to open Desktop, Downloads, or Documents.
I then tried to do a few things in Windows 8.1, but responses were super slow. I then restarted the computer but it froze in the blue restart screen. I then forced a manual restart.
Now I get a black screen right after Bios screen ("Press Enter to interrupt Normal startup"). No flashing cursor, just a plain black screen. None of the keys are responsive, except Ctrl-Alt-Del which will restart the computer, and the same thing happens.
Since I don't have a DVD drive, I cannot boost using the Windows DVD.

A week ago, i turned on my laptop and discovered that my sound wasnt working. I cheaked the sound menu, it told my that the speakers were not plugged in. I looked in the recording menu which told me my build in mic was not plugged in.
I was able to have sound by plugging my laptop into my tv with a HDMI lead.
I got fed up with a slow laptop and no sound so i decided to reset my laptop, when the reset was finished my mic and speakers worked. I turned it off and when i woke up i turned it back on to find my mic and speaker was "not plugged in". All my drivers are up to date and i have no updates to do.
Today I changed my language options and happened to come across a BSOD. When I restarted, I found out that the input language for my password has also been changed, and my usual key combination for changing languages does not work. Thus, I cannot enter my password to change my language back to English. find a way to change the input language on the login screen?.

So he brought it over to me, and I'm not to familiar with Windows 8. So I try turning on the laptop and it freezes at the login screen. It has his username, and the little loading screen like its trying to load the account, then it freezes and it stops there. So what I'm trying to do is a system restore to an earlier time. Maybe even to boot into safe mode. How to access System Restore is to hold shift while restarting the computer. Except I can't access the computer. It doesn't go past the login screen. I have had this issue for a while now, but never really thought about it.
Every time I log in on my account (and ONLY mine), as the screen is saying "Welcome" and the dot circle is spinning, I get a short screen flicker. It only happens once, and ONLY when I'm logging in.
I have noticed on all my clean installations of Windows 8, that there is 10 Second Hang before the login Screen. (Nothing but a black screen). It gets pretty annoying when you're often changing in between a triple OS set up.

Everything worked fine for almost a month and since last few days I am not able to see login screen, its just blank. Since I am unable to login I cannot access the apps/programs neither I can shut the laptop from Windows 8 via Charm menu or Cntrl+Alt+Del.
I am stuck as I cannot reinstall the OS as when I use power down button on the laptop the machine goes to sleep and on power up I cannot access boot priority screen to change to optical drive.
