View 7 Replieshe Skype Integrated Metro only works intermittently. I can see the Caller but they can sometimes see but not hear me. I've checked sounds settings within the App without success.
No such problem when using the Desktop Skype. Might the combination of Metro App and Desktop version be causing trouble? Should the Desktop version be uninstalled?
Just tried the Logitech Web Cam software and found a log-jamb with the sound slider. Don't know why but I've now got it working again with both App and Desktop versions and back in business again.
My friend recently bought a Windows 8 (Pro) Tablet and I suggested that she should use skydrive, but there are two unexpected behaviours:
1)On the Mordern UI I try to access files saved in the skydrive, but this only works with an internet connection.Without I only got an error/warning message that I need a connection. Why there are no data sored offline? This is a no go!How can I change this?
2)On the Desktop I don't found the folder where to store the skydrive data.I think this is a problem in connection with no (1).
Does ODIN works in Windows 8? It detects my Droid Charge but I am scared to flash anything right now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI built a custom pc recently and I decided to get Windows 8.1. I built the pc and installed Windows 8.1 no problem. Rebooted after install no problem. Updated my graphics card drivers (tried playing minecraft and it said I needed to) and rebooted, no problem. Then, the next day when I turned it on, it booted onto the start screen, before the login, I clicked to continue to login and it went black. Everything but the mouse. It would flash on and off every little while.
I could move the mouse off the screen to the right and bottom, but not the top and left. I rebooted, same thing. One more reboot, and the splash screen is different . It says "Please Wait" on top of the loading circle thing. It says Recovery. I click advanced settings and continue to windows 8.1. It reboots and works fine. Until next time I turn it off and back on.
These are my specs, if needed:
AMD FX-6300 6-Core 3.5 GHz
ASRock 980DE3/U3S3
2x4GB G-Skill Ares DDR-3 1600mhz
Gigabyte Geforce 650 Ti
Windows 8.1 64-bit (obviously)
I have just been given an Asus laptop as a present, it is running Windows 8. I have a copy of Works 7 from a previous machine and wondered if it would work on the Windows 8 laptop?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am able to open a document using task scheduler in my Windows XP machine, but not in my Windows 8.1 machine or my daughters Windows 8 machine. Is this a Windows 8 bug?
I am able to open the document by hand, but when I wait for the time that Task Scheduler has assigned to open the document, nothing happens. On the other hand when I do the same thing in my XP machine it opens correctly at the assigned time.
I have cleaned my computer completely and reloaded the original operating system then upgraded to Windows 8.1 but it didn't do anything to solve the problem.
Creating a sleep shortcut. It works great but I would like to make one minor change. Instead of waking computer by using the power button, is there a way that I can go back to waking with the keyboard (like it is if I sleep from start menu). I changed the power settings and everything to disable hibernate as well.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently built my 1st gaming PC (Intel Core i7-3770, EVGA GeForce GTX 770, NZXT Phantom 240 - System Build - PCPartPicker Canada) , and had a couple problems with the display while the GPU (GeForce GTX 770) was plugged into the motherboard (MSI Z77A G41) which then I fixed... or so I thought... I got it to work through the motherboard, so now the display works on the monitors and I can start up the computer and install drivers for the GPU and see that the computer recognizes it in "Devices Manager" panel, but as soon as I plug the VGA connector into the GPU it shows no display once again... literally nothing, the light in the monitor just starts flashing after a while...
I have tested 2 different monitors which gave me the same result, and I tried playing the the BIOS around but did not find anything that fixed the problem... so my question is does my GPU work even if it shows no display when I connect the VGA connector into the graphics card? If I was to install a game would I be able to run it at high settings or would it run in the integrated graphics card (Intel HD 4000)...
I made a post before about the problem that I had before this, which was that the graphics card did not show display at all when plugged into the mother board... [URL] ....
My web browsers only seem to work when Im downloading something with utorrent. If I stop utorrent from downloading, my browser(chrome) no longer loads a website or loads extremely slow. When Im downloading something on utorrent everything is fine, internet works great. I had to limit the download rate so it doesnt use all my speed though. Its kind of like my internet has to charge up by download on utorrent, then feeds my web browser speed and/or connectivity.
The problem seem to have started when I was using connectify to create a hotspot for my neighbor to use for internet off of me without him connecting directly to my wifi. I have uninstalled connectify, did a dns flush, and did a netsh int ip reset.
Recently I bought a new lap top and installed Windows 8.1
I have an issue with the Mouse/s. I tried 2 different mouses and I encountered the same problem with both of them, so I know it's not a mouse problem. Note that both of these mouses work perfectly on my other/older/Windows 7 and previously Windows XP lap top, so it's not a mouse issue. It's either a driver problem or something else.
I have tried all 3 USB ports I got and it does the same thing.
When I turn on the lap top, if the mouse is plugged or unplugged and I plug it afterwards, it doesn't work. If however I turn on the lap top, plug in the mouse, and the restart the lap top, when it restarts the mouse works fine all up until the lap top is turned off again. And then to get it to work again I have to turn on the lap top, with the mouse plugged, or plug the mouse after it's turned on, then restart the lap top, and then the mouse works fine.
Apparently, this is not very convenient. It's a major inconvenience.
p.s I never had this issue before on any other PC computer or lap top, whether it was Windows XP or Windows 7. So it's either a Windows 8.1 issue or the new lap top issue, or a driver issue.
if you've made a recovery image backup of Windows 8.1, can you use a Windows 8 recovery USB drive to restore it, or do you need to make a specific Windows 8.1 one?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on a Dell Precision 490 desktop. I upgraded from XP so it was basically a clean install.
I have my power button configured to put the system to sleep and it will do that ONCE after I turn it on. After that, pushing the power button does nothing until the next reboot or power cycle. Going to Charms -> Settings -> Power -> Sleep always works.
This obviously isn't a critical problem, but it's really annoying because I'm in the habit of hitting the power button and usually it just doesn't work.
Things I've tried:
- searching Google - can't find the needle in the haystack
- searching this forum - nothing that matches
- checking the Event Log - nothing interesting or suspicious
- apply all Microsoft updates - no change
- disable my Comodo Internet Security - no change
- change power options and then change them back - no change
- checked if I could stop and restart the power service - nope
I have recently began to have problems with Windows 8 not letting me ZIP/COMPRESS Files.

I can't find an answer anywhere, any solution without having to download a 3rd party zipper.
My web browser's works fine, all 3 in fact (Chrome,Firefox, Explorer) however, when I open my steam app (gaming program) it keeps telling me it is not establishing any internet service and to check my settings. I opened up origin and it works fine! another related note, My Nvidia Gforce Experience App that keeps tabs on latest updates for my Video card, tells me there is a new update. But when I press the green download button, it also tells me I have no internet connection... I searched under my allowed programs & apps in my firewall settings and its squeaky clean... I then did a system restore and used a restore point from 2 days ago when I know for a fact everything was running great, I still get same results.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two desktops hard wired to a router with windows 8 installed out of the box. Created a workgroup on desktop A called RMWGroup, rebooted and joined Desktop B to the same workgroup. I created a folder called C:data on desktop A and shared it out. I created the same local user account from Desktop B onto Desktop A and gave them read access to the folder. When i reboot desktop A i can see it momentarily from Desktop B and can see the files in the folder but after a few minutes (1 or 2) access is then gone and i can no longer ping Desktop A from Desktop B. If i reboot i can see it and ping it again for a few minutes then access is gone again. Why is that?
The original p[lan was to allow the user from Desktop B to see one folder on Desktop A but not login to Desktop A locally.
I have three monitors setup in Windows 8. Two of them to a Radeon 4670 and the third to the onboard HD graphics 4000. They work quite well in Windows 8. When I upgraded to 8.1 the HD 4000 monitor no longer comes up. The adapter is recognized and device mangler says it is working and has the most recent driver.
This is important to my work flow and is just one of a number of things not to love about 8.1. I would like to get this functioning before I tackle less important issues. Win 8.1 is installed on a test drive.
I recently encountered a problem where my browsers (IE and Firefox) and email stopped working. I know I have an internet connection - I can ping Google for example. And I have other laptops that are working fine. The weird thing is when I reboot I can sometimes use the browser or email but after a couple of minutes it stops again (stuck in waiting for google.com). This has been going on for a week now. I tried restoring from earlier but still doesn't work. I've tried resetting DNS and WINSOCK and TCP - makes no difference. I'm running Norton and Malwarebytes.

my sister with "word" or "spreadsheet" stuff. We both had the Microsoft "Works" suite on our computers, so this was not an issue. She has Windows 7 and I had Windows XP pro, but now I have Windows 8.1. I soon found out that my old Microsoft "Works" spreadsheet would not "print" on my new Windows 8.1. It was suggested that I switch to the "LibreOffice" program. I did that. Took a while, but I converted all my previous "word" and "spreadsheets" to the "LibreOffice" program. I'm still learning how to use this program. But at least I can print those spreadsheets.
On a spreadsheet. If I send her a "LibreOffice" spreadsheet she will not be able to open it. There is absolutely, positively, not going to happen, that I can install "LibreOffice" on her computer and that she is going to learn how to use it. She uses her computer for basic stuff that she needs and that's it.
I need a program that I can install on "my" computer, that is "Windows 8.1 compatible and that then when I send her a "word or spreadsheet" she will be able to open and readily use.
Of course, if I could resolve the issue of why my "works" spreadsheet won't print on my Windows 8.1 that would solve everything. FYI, you get an error message that states: No default printer selected. Go to Control Panel and resolve.
I've previously set my Windows 8 machine to auto logon without entering my password.
But since then, I've changed the password for the account via hotmail, and now, whenever I turn on my machine it fails to logon with an error that my password is incorrect.
How do I change the stored password to my new password so that it will auto logon again?
Since I installed some "critical" updates from microsoft, there have been some network problems. The main problem that I noticed was that the ethernet appeared as "limited". Then, as I logged in, internet was actually working fine, but that was in desktop mode. Now, as I try to run an app from start screen, it said that there was no internet connection...
So I went to troubleshoot the problem but nothing was found. The other thing I noticed was that, by opening the "Network and Sharing center", there appeared something unusual:
I also booted up to safe mode with network to see if it still persisted, and it still continued limited and while opening the network and sharing center, it still showed that thing on the image.
All this happened just after installing and restarting for the new update, and so, I also tried to restore the system to the point before the update, but it was proven to be unsuccessful, in the end appearing a message saying that it must have not been successful because of the antivirus being enabled at the time (I doubt it), or because of an unknown error.
A couple days ago, I was casually playing Warframe. Tried to alt+tab out to check an IM and my screen went black. Not sure what happened as I could still hear the mouseover sounds as though Warframe were still active. Fiddled around for a few minutes and couldn't get Task Manager to come up, so I decided to just hold the power button on my laptop until it shut down. No harm done, right?
When I booted back up, Windows greeted me with a "Diagnosing Your PC" message under the normal Toshiba boot logo. After it hung there for a few seconds, it moved on to the "Attempting Repairs" screen. Didn't take long for it to decide it wasn't too happy with me for suddenly shutting it down.
Since then, I've been stuck in an auto repair loop. So far I've googled everything I could think of, but it seems my efforts were in vain. Tried putting Hiren's on a thumbdrive and booting from there, and for some reason, Windows just boots right back into the auto repair screen. I've even wiped my 1TB external and put the recovery image from my work PC on there. That didn't work either. I've gone through every thread google's given me and I feel like I'm banging my head against the wall.
I should probably note that formatting is not an option for me. I'd try installing Ubuntu on my external, but since the recovery won't even boot, I feel like that'd be in vain.
My TV tuner gets full signal when working with the battery while it gets null signal when plugged in to the AC socket whenever the battery is in. The matter is related I think to the battery saving profile. I have an ASUS K75V with i7 - 36300QM, 2.4GHz. OS Windows 8. I tried to set the setting of the active profile equal for "on battery" and "plugged in", copying the settings of the first to the second naturally. It still doesn't work. It seems that is not configurable.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy internet provider is BT and they have a couple of public wifi signals that I use when I can't get onto my Home Router, I can use their public wifi on my old Acer windows 7 laptop but I'm having a lot of problems with using it on my new Windows 8.1 Dell Laptop, I can connect to their public wifi and it loads the login page fast but then I can't load any other page. Sometimes it works for a bit but then stops out of nowhere or it will only load some of the page and then just stops loading it. Sometimes it disconnects me and other times it won't let me connect to the network at all. I can use it on my little sister's laptop which runs windows 7 and it's a lot faster than on my new laptop and I never had these problems on my old laptop.
I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop which has an Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 adapter built in but I can't use their public Wifi with it so I use an external wireless adapter dongle since I can get faster speeds when connected to my Home Router and it picks three different BT wifi signals but I'm having this issue with all three of them.
So last week I bought a new laptop, an HP Envy m6 with Windows 8 already installed in. It was working fine, till I came home today to find that my wi-fi adapter is turned off, no big deal I just went to networks and enabled it.
Now, it says I have internet connection to my wi-fi router, all five bars but whenever I use browers such as Chrome or IE it will not load.
Now I have an old computer, a Lenovo B560 that works perfectally fine. Chrome, and IE.
The problem is not that I don't have connection or limited, its the fact that my browsers are not loading/acting as if I do not have a problem.
I've called Microsoft, I've been through fourms but I am so lost. I'm told that it's my router but how can it be when my Windiws 7 Home-Premiun is fine, but why Windows 8 is not?
If I restart my router then my wireless says it is limited on my Windows 8, if I restart my Windows 8 I will have browser's for five minutes (techianlly 4 minutes and 35-55 seconds) and then it will shut off.
When I leave my computer after a session, it automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of time and remains that way till I wake it up.
However when I manually put it to sleep ( via shutdown options) , it goes to sleep immediately but for only a while ( a few minutes) then it shows the desktop screen again. If I then leave it alone after it self awake , it goes back to sleep as described above.
I do prefer a local account but when i try to install new apps from app store Windows 8.1 asks me to switch to a microsoft account.
