I've previously set my Windows 8 machine to auto logon without entering my password.
But since then, I've changed the password for the account via hotmail, and now, whenever I turn on my machine it fails to logon with an error that my password is incorrect.
How do I change the stored password to my new password so that it will auto logon again?
In this screenshot you can see what pops up every time this new user logs in to our local network domain. The server name is "goodbuddy" on "TRUCKERSREPORT" domain and it seems to be running some kind of setup right at login every time. I don't want to allow this user admin rights for program changes, but i need to make it so an administrator doesn't have to enter their credentials in this every time this user logs into their computer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI do a lot of remote administration after hours and I often login as an admin user into client workstations to fix various issues. One thing that I do to eliminate confusion is to edit the registry of a Win7 machine and change the HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAuthenticationLogonUILastLoggedOnUser registry value back to the user's username.
That way inattentive users don't keep trying their password with the Admin username when they attempt to login the next day. I see that Windows 8 has the same key, but changing that value doesn't appear to "stick". It appears to be overwritten when you logout/reboot/shutdown. I've also tried deleting the SAM entries in the same key, but that seems to have no effect. I've seen several posts on how to show all users or none on the logon screen, but I'm trying to minimize the changes that end users will experience (complain about). I'm also hoping for a solution that will work with both domain and non-domain joined computers.
I had a new Windows 8.1 Pro system installed. Was able to logon to it with no problem. The computer name was OWNER. Changed it to what my previous computer was named. Now during startup the Admin logon gives the following message:
The user name or password is incorrect. Try again.
When I click on 'OK' I'm presented with a signon screen with Admin as the user name. No password that I enter works. When I lookup the signon accounts Admin is NOT one of them.
Listed the user accounts and found the following item for Admin:

Can I stop windows from asking me to enter my password for microsoft account every time i turn on my laptop? I tried using local account it worked but i had to use microsoft account again to get access to app store and mail app.
View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday I did a few things on laptop, nothing special. Shut down the laptop, girlfriend tried to log in a few hours later and upon entering her password she gets kicked back out to the login screen.
Booted mini windows xp from hirensbootcd, checked registery and nothing fancy there in the winlogon strings.
I did manage to enable the guest account and add an extra administrator account. The guest account works (no taskbar tho) but everything else seemed to work. The freshly made admin account did not work, same story as my girlfriends account, enter password > back to login screen.
I've been trying to set my brothers laptop to auto log in the user account without password using control userpasswords via command prompt but i'm having problems.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have three monitors setup in Windows 8. Two of them to a Radeon 4670 and the third to the onboard HD graphics 4000. They work quite well in Windows 8. When I upgraded to 8.1 the HD 4000 monitor no longer comes up. The adapter is recognized and device mangler says it is working and has the most recent driver.
This is important to my work flow and is just one of a number of things not to love about 8.1. I would like to get this functioning before I tackle less important issues. Win 8.1 is installed on a test drive.
Me and my wife, have a PC with Windows 8.1 installed. The thing is that the constant requirement of entering user passwords everything we switch is very annoying. Is there anyway to bypass password screens for all users when Windows are booting or when we change users?
View 2 Replies View RelatedA couple days ago, I was casually playing Warframe. Tried to alt+tab out to check an IM and my screen went black. Not sure what happened as I could still hear the mouseover sounds as though Warframe were still active. Fiddled around for a few minutes and couldn't get Task Manager to come up, so I decided to just hold the power button on my laptop until it shut down. No harm done, right?
When I booted back up, Windows greeted me with a "Diagnosing Your PC" message under the normal Toshiba boot logo. After it hung there for a few seconds, it moved on to the "Attempting Repairs" screen. Didn't take long for it to decide it wasn't too happy with me for suddenly shutting it down.
Since then, I've been stuck in an auto repair loop. So far I've googled everything I could think of, but it seems my efforts were in vain. Tried putting Hiren's on a thumbdrive and booting from there, and for some reason, Windows just boots right back into the auto repair screen. I've even wiped my 1TB external and put the recovery image from my work PC on there. That didn't work either. I've gone through every thread google's given me and I feel like I'm banging my head against the wall.
I should probably note that formatting is not an option for me. I'd try installing Ubuntu on my external, but since the recovery won't even boot, I feel like that'd be in vain.
Have a Gateway Desktop. Upgraded from 8 to 8.1.
Somehow I disabled the disabled Password Logon and its back asking for a password at boot.
Owner doesn't remember original password when setup.
I have a password blanking cd that I've used on both 8 and 8.1 pc's.
The problem is I can't boot from the CD and I can't, obviously, use that wonderful new setting, "Update", "Update and Recovery" and the option to boot with USB, CD etc. since I can't access the OS.
I have the BIOS set for the CD/DVD drive for first boot however boot options only show the "UEFI: ST....." drive.So I can't boot from within or without.
I cannot get the touch keyboard or picture password to come up consistently at logon screen. I had to go to services to make the touch-service work with desktop and logon (it was unchecked). Now, at fresh start-up or restart I can get the keyboard by touch but will not get it again if I log off and log back on. And under no conditions do I get the picture password option although I have a picture set up for it.

I recently upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. It was fine until I decided to change my account to a microsoft account.
After logging out and restarting, I could not see my user on the log on screen. It still showed up in Control Panel and PC Settings after logging in as another Admin.
To try to fix this I created a new user and was going to copy files into it but this new user didn't show up either.
Is this a Win 8.1 bug or is there something you have to do?
I can always revert to Windows 8 because I backed up my computer before updating but I would not prefer this.
For some reason my computer loads slowly. I log in then black screen with mouse only can be seen. it takes <10 seconds for explorer.exe to appear. I searched for fix and found that it can be fixed by creating new profile. So, I went ahead and created profile. Logged off my current one and find this error when trying to load the new one. "User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded".
I then ran sfc /scannow command in Administrator command prompt. It found few files but was unable to repair them. Unfortunately I cannot open log because I have access denied popping up (was working before).
I created a new account on Windows 8.1. The login attempt resulted in a "The User Profile Service failed the logon" error.
Attempted the standard registry fix (linked below). However, a SID key does not exist for the new account.
I've tried deleting the account, recreating, recreating in safe mode. Same error at login.

i had activated guest acc. from control panel ,it was going well since last 2-3 days ,the guest account wont show on logon screen.
it only shows my account which is admin.
When I leave my computer after a session, it automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of time and remains that way till I wake it up.
However when I manually put it to sleep ( via shutdown options) , it goes to sleep immediately but for only a while ( a few minutes) then it shows the desktop screen again. If I then leave it alone after it self awake , it goes back to sleep as described above.
I have my Windows 8.1 PC's password policy set so that a password is not required when waking from sleep/shutdown. I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.
I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.
Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.
I am using Windows 8 on my laptop which uses my Windows Live account to login. Problem is it has suddenly stopped letting me log in and I'm locked out. The message I get is "You can't sign into your PC at the moment. Go to account.live.com to fix the problem or try the last password you used on this PC". I hadn't changed anything which may have made it do this.
I have tried the following but nothing is working:
- Changed my password in my Live account
- Used a previous password
- Plugged my laptop into a network cable rather than using just Wifi
- Rolled my laptop to a previous time
I can't refresh as it needs the password but I can access the command prompt. I'm not knowledgeable on command prompts so not sure what I could do here which might resolve it. I also don't want to lose any files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Win7 PC and a Win 8.1 PC, each with an admin and a user account and all accounts have passwords. On the Win7 PC, it will auto login without typing either user account password and it does this each time I reboot. On the Win 8.1 PC it will only start up once without needing either of the user account passwords, but then after each reboot, the users login screen displays and I need to select an account and put in the password for the account. How do I get the Win 8.1 PC to login automatically each time I reboot? Where should I look in the registry?
Netplwiz seems to be the same on each PC. The registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE MicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon is similar on each PC although the Win 8.1 PC has a few extra entries. I do not have ForceAutoLogon in the registry on the Win 7 PC and I do not want to add this in to the registry in the Win 8.1 PC because then Remote Desktop Connection will not be able to connect.
I'd like to change the order in which certain programs in my startup folder load. I don't need to know how to add or remove programs from the startup folder, and I'm not talking about security or system programs. I'm talking about some programs I've added to my computer, which I use all the time in my research work, and I just want them to wind up in a different order on my taskbar for ease in switching back & forth, making notes, etc.

However, I do not possess one, and if I tried to create on and make it sign in automatically, the screen said wrong username or password. Which I don't understand at all.
