View 2 RepliesThere is an item listed on my all apps screen that does not even exist on my hard drive anymore. How do I go about removing it from the all apps screen?
For that matter, how do I go about organizing my all apps screen to my own preference?
My biggest complaint about Windows has always been backing up application data.
Does Microsoft backup data like icloud for Metro apps? I have a windows 8 pro tablet, but would like to use more Metro apps, but only if backup and restore is as easy as ios icloud or Android titanium backup.

How to Backup App Data in Windows 8.
When I first got my new laptop I made and image using Asus backup restore but all it did was make a copy of the restore partition on the hard drive. Is there a way to make an image of what the computer is with all the data and programs there are installed? I had to do a restore and then I had to reinstall everything and reload all my data files. This took a long time to do. It would be so much easier to just have an image of everything just the way it is now.

My data source appeared in Documents today and I cannot find out if I should keep it or not. If not, there is not much to discuss removing it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been doing a little bit of cleaning of my contacts in People & Skype.

Am I stuck with these contacts?
I want to delete all of the apps on a fresh install of Windows 8.1 with a double click. How can this be accomplished with a .reg or .bat?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo, I have been trying to rid my Toshiba Satellite of a ton of bloatware they put on a new laptop running Windows 8. There are also some unnecessary Windows 8 tiles I can't get rid of from the big blue Metro start up screen.
Some, the ones that I guess are "apps" I can right click on, select "unpin" and they're gone, but others I cannot get rid of
Here's how my problem presents:
I select ALL APPS by right clicking on the blue Metro start screen.
Then I right click something like a game "It Girl" or "Polar Bowler" and I see PIN TO START, which I don't want to do, UNINSTALL, which I DO want to do, RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR, or OPEN FILE LOCATION. Uninstall just takes me to the control panel's "add/remove programs." Well there are no games there. I uninstalled them from there already. The other options just take me to the desktop
I'd love to be able to delete these tiles (some games, but also a number of Toshiba programs I'm never going to use.) But I've been unable to find the key.
I'm trying to delete the games listed here in my start menu programs list:
I've read online that you should be able to delete them by going into the program files folder for "Wildtangent games" but the problem is that I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED THAT FOLDER PERMANENTLY, so now when I click on "open file location" I get this games window that I cant do anything with:
I already tried re-installing wildtangent games to see if that would somehow re-instate access to these games' files in program files, but to no avail.
Is there still some way to make it so they dont show up?
I used to have a Windows phone and attached my Facebook account to the Windows phone on my Microsoft Live account. I have since gotten rid of my Windows phone but then afterwards I permanently deleted my Facebook account. I bought a new pc with Windows 8.1 and logged in with my Microsoft Live account and saw that it kept all of my old contacts from Facebook and there is no way to delete them since I no longer have a Facebook account to delete them.
Is there a way to delete contacts that are associated with Facebook if I no longer have a Facebook account? I have an Xbox Live account associated with my Microsoft Live account so I do not want to delete my Microsoft Live account. Is there any way to delete my contacts without having to delete my Microsoft Live account?
how to delete the masses of unwanted foreign 'system fonts' that came with my new Win 8.1 machine.
I know they don't slow up staring time in this version of Windows but they wreck your font selection in word processors. The 'hide' command is already on but it does nothing, they still show up in the font selection.
This system is:-
Asus T200 transformer
Windows 8.1
system is fresh apart from installation of a start menu and word processor.
[I use 6 a month old desktop with XP as my main computer]
Windows 8 comes with a whole lot of fonts pre-installed, quite a few of which I do not need and are merely cluttering up the place. I would especially like to get rid of the specialised fonts for Japanese, Chinese, Hebrew, Arabic, Indian etc, etc & so 4th.
However, for many of them, when I try to delete them, I get the message that they are "protected system fonts". Surely, there aren't that many system fonts? Can we not get rid of or hide these fonts any more? Surely they are an unnecessary drain on resources, and boot-time extenders?
i have a problem with my USB stick: i've borrowed it to a colleague 20 minutes, and now, when he returned me i have a little surprize: instead of finding my personal data from faculty, i found these shorcuts, who turns out that are viruses (Windows Defender alerted me).
The stick was used in one of our laboratory class. I want to recover my data because i have about 1.5gb of files which are very important to me. When i scan the USB with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, it detects nothing, but scans even my personal files, despide i cannot see them (even if i pick 'Show hidden folders and files' option), only Windows Defender finds the viruses.
Is it possible to delete the viruses and save my personal files (txt's, doc's and pdf's), without formatting the stick ?
I do prefer a local account but when i try to install new apps from app store Windows 8.1 asks me to switch to a microsoft account.
Can I install apps with a local account? and how can i understand if I have a local account or microsoft account.
I have been using Syncback SE Free for a long time now with Win7. It works well. I like the mirror function and the ability for syncback to detect small changes and allows you to view different files. When I use the mirror function in syncback, it scans the drive/folder and only copy/delete the differences leaving the rest of the files intact.
I have one main PC as my work pc, and I rotate between 2 different PC's (win 7 pro laptop and win 8 pro desktop). So I like all files on each pc to be current. Think of it as dropbox but offline with tons of data. Currently I have an external hd which I use as an intermediary between the "current" pc and the "older" pc.
After I upgraded to win 8 pro, I noticed that I can do a complete backup with syncback, but I cannot use the mirror function. Syncback does not work in deleting files either from source or target hard disk. It can detect the file changes, but unless I delete the file at the target drive, it will not copy to the target drive.
Any mirroring software which can replace syncback free which works for windows 8 pro desktop and my windows 7 pro laptop? I have tried contacting the people behind syncback (2brightsparks), and they have a knowledge based which does not tell much. It seems that windows is getting stingy with the read/write options. Following the KB discussion on syncback yields nothing in fact it is too convoluted.
I don't mind if it is a network/ethernet solution (not online storage like dropbox-but using ethernet wires) or my solution which is using an external hd as long as all my work computers are "current".
For more than a week now, the above situation have been occurring. I have "scoured" the web and tried a lot of "solutions" and none as at yet have normalized my situation.
I am suspecting that I might need a registry solution, since I cannot refresh my installation- I upgraded to win 8 from win 7 online.
Also, the Skype app crashes almost as soon as it finishes loading and returns to the start menu. But, there is a sign it is still running and whenever you click on it, it trips off again.
I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, ran the apps troubleshooters many times, checked that the time service is running, synchronized this and that, etc to no avail.
My Mail Live tile do not have the option to turn on/off live update but the Calendar and People tiles have it yet none is updating.
i had a bunch of images of a chest of drawers i wanted to sell. On my windows 7 PC all the previews showed the images sideways (landscape when they needed to be viewed in portrait). this is not a problem - expected behavior.
On the windows 8 PC all the images appeared portrait and in the correct orientation. images looked perfect. i understand that windows 8 reads the exif data and autorotates the images on previews and in the galleries. a neat trick.
On the windows 8 PC i put an ad on the website that i wanted to sell the drawers, and when i selected the images they previewed portrait in the file browser too. when uploaded the images all came out sideways (landscape) on the website.
this might seem like user error or a rudimentary problem at first, and trust me i have many years as a system admin under my belt, it is going to cause many problems of a similar nature for every user that touches it.
Windows 8 leads you to believe that your images are correctly oriented firstly, and then does not provide an easy way to adjust and save them even if you do know that they need to be adjusted. even in the windows photo viewer on the desktop (non metro viewer) you can rotate an image as much as you like with the buttons and it will not auto save it like it does in Win7.
In Win7 you could see that the image needs adjustment and its a good prompt for you to action, so you open it, rotate it, and it is automatically saved by the photo viewer so then whatever you do with it, it will be oriented correctly.
what i find absolutely crazy is that windows knows the image needs to be rotated, but does not save the image after it autorotates it, so it lulls you into a false sense of security.
I've recently noticed a Windows update that changes the way you close apps, amongst a number of other things.
What it was:
What it is now:
This update was unticked in the 'Update and Recovery' section. Every other update had a checkbox ticked, this one didn't.
Other changes bought along by installing this update:
- New applications in the 'Apps' section of the Start menu are now highlighted with a greybox.
- Shut down options now in the start menu (and search, I'm not sure)
One extra thing that seems to be around depending on... something.
This one's related with Chrome. Usually when you start typing in the url box, your search terms are cut off with a rounded border going around. This box has disappeared with the latest update, but I have seen this happening in earlier versions of Windows.

Opinions on these changes?
It is possible update for all users the Windows Store apps with a local account belonging to the Administrators group? Then, I believe that the management of updating of the Windows Store apps can also be managed only by administrators. Right? If so, how do I do this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried downloading various apps from the store, but the message I get was I can't install this app.For example, I tried to install PDF Reader 8, and I get error code 0x80070032. View 9 Replies View RelatedI normally only use 2 apps: the Mail and the Video, and even after I close these two apps, when I take a look at the Processes tab in the Task Manager, they are still there, there's no more CPU usage but they keep using Memory, which is usually a lot. So every time I want to actually close an app I have to open up the Task Manager, go to the Process tab and kill them off there, otherwise they'll keep using my memory.

View 6 Replies View RelatedEver since this new update with 8.1 I can't install any new apps... I first noticed when my Mail app stopped working and froze my computer. So I uninstalled the app and when I tried to install it back I get the screenshot below.. So I tried Yahoo Mail, some games, some other apps.. Nothing will work. Mail finally said it installed, but it's not on my computer and the app store says it's already installed. I have my own custom built computer, if you need the specs look under the specs drop-down, it's all there...
