Notifications Not Showing From Apps In Right Hand Corner?
Apr 27, 2014except it works in 32 bit but not in 64 bit windows 8.1 update fresh install. Have checked the apps notification switches in PC settings and they are all on. The one I miss is the email notification telling me I have mail which appears to be enabled but test messages from gmail dont trigger notifcations in right hand top side of desktop.
One notification that does work is when I insert a USB it asks what to do with removable devices but thats the only notification I get.

Aug 11, 2013This keeps popping up in the lower right corner of my screen every time I boot up.. What it is.. right or left clicking on it has no effect, nor clicking on any of the 4 icons. The only active area is the little arrow on the left that closes the popup. It may be part of Windows 8 or may be some part of the ASUS addons that were installed with my system..

Jan 16, 2014My wifi on my laptop keeps acting up. at a random time the wifi bar in the lower right hand side turns to a yellow exclamation mark over it, after hovering over it it says 'limited'. Usually if i just turn off the wifi then immediately on again it will sort it out.
Can't work out if its a driver issue, my isp or a windows 8.1 issue. The laptop i have is an assus k53sv. the driver i have installed is 'Qualcomm Atheros AR9002WB-1NG'.
Win 8.1 - Start Button Icon Not Found In Lower Left Corner Of Screen?
Nov 29, 2013I'm getting confused about the new start button that was supposedly to come with the Win 8.1 update. I cant' find anything different from Win 8. Is the start button the icon found in the lower left corner of the screen?...or on my computer keyboard?...it looks like a window. I was expecting that I would get a dropdown start menu with Win 8.1 like I get with Win 7 when I click on that button. I would really like to have the Win 7 dropdown start menu when I click on that button in 8.1.

Nov 6, 2013I am new to Windows 8, and on the tile display, when I touch a tile, i.e. the weather tile, a black screen appears with Accuweather.com in the middle; this lasts about a second, then the tile window display reappears. I would expect that the Accuweather.com website would appear, but it never does. Other tiles act the same way, but some apps are executed when the tile for them is touched.

Apr 21, 2014I've recently noticed a Windows update that changes the way you close apps, amongst a number of other things.

This update was unticked in the 'Update and Recovery' section. Every other update had a checkbox ticked, this one didn't.
Other changes bought along by installing this update:
- New applications in the 'Apps' section of the Start menu are now highlighted with a greybox.
- Shut down options now in the start menu (and search, I'm not sure)
One extra thing that seems to be around depending on... something.
This one's related with Chrome. Usually when you start typing in the url box, your search terms are cut off with a rounded border going around. This box has disappeared with the latest update, but I have seen this happening in earlier versions of Windows.

Jul 16, 2013I'm trying to run the Dell Backup and Recovery application on a new windows 8 xps 8500. Unfortunately all the tile labels are only showing IDS tags eg: IDS_DS_022,IDS_DS_003 and when I click on a tile the subsequent window is also full of different IDS tags. I've tried reinstalling the app but no change.

However I found out that resolution check can be bypassed by editing a file in Windows 8. This works on Windows 8.1 too!
Recent Apps (top Left Corner) Not Displaying Preview?
Dec 6, 2013Recent apps (top left corner) list still functions as normal, yet selected "tabs" are invisible whilst taking up the same amount of screen space for its click function. (If I hover over the top left, and move my mouse out just a little, i can still click / right click as though it was still visible.) when there are multiple options, the unselected tabs still show an outline visible with a transparent midsection
I am unsure what might have knocked the colour out of the app switching thing (or whatever I might call it, a name for what I am looking has been aloof,) maybe a windows update, or my graphics. i tried rolling back my graphics to no avail. Perhaps it is some arbitrary setting.

Oct 28, 2013I have a Windows 8.1 and a problem with my apps. When I try to open weather, finance and other apps, They show their start-up screen and in a couple of seconds they're gone - I am brought to my metro screen... Tried to reinstall the apps, but hadn't got any luck...
But wait, it get interesting: Even though the weather app crashes, I have a live tile option on for that app, and it shows me weather nicely.

Apps / Software :: Windows 8.1 Live Tile Apps Not Working?
Feb 25, 2014 I updated windows 8.1 pro with wmc from store.I had NO problems, received no error messages, had no dc's, the power didn't shut off, the download didn't stop .. literally nothing went wrong. After update everything worked fine. All the apps are downloaded and were working fine.
But,After 2/3 months since updated, I suddenly noticed that every live tile / folder / app / game / setting etc. which were working fine, now not working.When I clicked on any tile, nothing happened. It just went to a blank green screen because my background color is green. It appears on the left upper corner as opened but doesn't run. When I click, I am send back to Start Screen or Desktop. Even Store and Windows Setting stopped working. So, naturally i started checking the web for answers, but couldn't find a solution to the exact problem i was having. I saw countless posts of people saying "Just uninstall / re-install the apps" but at first, I couldn't get my App store app to run. Again, it was just blank after several minutes of waiting. I was able to download it after using the search bar menu on the right side of my computer, and was able to start installing some apps.
So i thought that everything was going to be ok, but then I ran into another problem where some of the apps wouldn't install, and I received an error message with the code/number of 0x80070002.
So, at this point, only a few of my apps are working due to the simple fact that I was able to re-install them, but the others I can't re-install because of this error message.
FIRST SOLUTION:I found a thread online that someone had created with a simple fix to about 2-3 errors on the tiles. This is a simple powershell script to re-register some apps so that they can run again. This worked to fix my app store app and setting, but only that apps. The app update is still not working.
I have another windows live ID, and when I log in with that Id, all my apps works normally! I am out of sorts now.

Mar 2, 2013Well, last night, I had noticed that there was no desktop tile and if I typed "desktop" on the start screen there was no app for it Also, "Change PC Settings" wasn't starting. My guess is that it did that because I had a really hard time uninstalling a program so I had to try going by means of registry editing. So I ended up refreshing my computer (from the installation disc since PC settings wasn't working ) Now everything is back to normal. So all I want to know is how I can prevent this from happening again.

Aug 11, 2013I can't seem to turn on live tile for my weather app. When I right click on it, there is no option at the bottom of the screen to turn it on.
Compared to the photos app, it is currently running live tile by default, and when I right click on it, I can toggle live tile on and off.
Is there something special I need to do with the weather app to activate live tile?

Feb 19, 2014 I'm using Windows 8.1, and I have accidentally deleted the SkyDrive App Tile and am trying to find a way to restore it.
What happened was that I deleted the SkyDrive shortcut in the start menu, only to realise that doing this also deleted the SkyDrive App Tile in Metro View.
Is there a way to restore the SkyDrive App Tile? I have tried searching for SkyDrive under Apps but it isn't there, presumably because it is integrated into Windows 8.1. I also found the SkyDrive menu that the SkyDrive App Tile is a shortcut to under PC Settings, but it doesn't look like it's possible to make a shortcut to it directly from Metro View.

Dec 14, 2013Just upgraded to 8.1 this weekend. Whenever I install a new app from the Store, it says it's installed, and I can search for it and play it, but it does NOT create a tile for the new app on my Start screen??
I can search for it, then right-click on it, and click on "Pin to Start" and it creates a tile on my Start screen, but I want it to create a new tile by default when I install an app, and it has stopped doing that!!!!

But after couple of days, the icons from some of the office apps automatically got erased from the tiles and now it looks so ugly. I tried re-pinning apps on start menu but it didn't work. I also tried sfc /scannow but it was in vein. How to fix it and get the icons back on the tiles?

Dec 18, 2013About three days ago, all new style apps stopped working. I click on the tile, get a deep blue screen, and nothing else. On the left side of the screen, I can see the app as if it is working (just the name of the app, not content), so I can close the window and get back to desktop. The same applies to the STORE app. The only tiles that work, are the links to desktop applications, which open correctly on the desktop. The fault also affects all windows system apps. For example if I search on the start screen for "windows update", I can access "Windows update" as it just opens a window on the desktop, but if I click on "Windows update settings" nothing happens. The same is true with all windows system apps that open in the new start screen system.
I've uninstalled two Microsoft updates that were installed over the past three days, no change. I uninstalled AVAST, no change, so I reinstalled it! I tried restoring the system, but found that I had only one restore, and that was corrupted. Very strange. Without access to many windows system apps, the computer is really limited. The desktop seems to be working OK. I can't refresh the PC, as firstly it is a system app that runs from the start screen, and secondly because I upgraded from win 8 to 8.1 online, this can't be done anyway, as I don't have a disc. I'm really trying to avoid reinstalling windows 8!
(Pavilion dv6, i7 processor, 6GB ram, originally win7, then I upgraded to win 8 and now 8.1. I've been running 8.1 for some months without problems, just occasionally on start-up from sleep, I get "error in non-cached memory" BSOD, and the system restarts.)

It tells me that i am not connected to the internet when i am clearly connected to it. My internet is through router and it works fine; i can access my browser just surfing the web.
