View 3 Replies View Related I'm using Windows 8.1, and I have accidentally deleted the SkyDrive App Tile and am trying to find a way to restore it.
What happened was that I deleted the SkyDrive shortcut in the start menu, only to realise that doing this also deleted the SkyDrive App Tile in Metro View.
Is there a way to restore the SkyDrive App Tile? I have tried searching for SkyDrive under Apps but it isn't there, presumably because it is integrated into Windows 8.1. I also found the SkyDrive menu that the SkyDrive App Tile is a shortcut to under PC Settings, but it doesn't look like it's possible to make a shortcut to it directly from Metro View.
I have three machines running Windows 8.1 Update 1 and for some reason one of the machines does not like OneDrive. When I first boot the system the OneDrive Cloud appears in the tray. However, as soon as I hover the mouse over it to see the sync status the Cloud Icon goes away and I think I get the SkyDive 1000 error in the Event Log. I don't know what I did to screw it up on this machine
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that Skydrive live tile does not work after upgrading to 8.1.
Prior to 8.1, Skydrive was live, that is it would display the contents of your folder, especially photos. Now, after 8.1, it doesn't work.
So skydrive live tile not working under 8.1?
My friend recently bought a Windows 8 (Pro) Tablet and I suggested that she should use skydrive, but there are two unexpected behaviours:
1)On the Mordern UI I try to access files saved in the skydrive, but this only works with an internet connection.Without I only got an error/warning message that I need a connection. Why there are no data sored offline? This is a no go!How can I change this?
2)On the Desktop I don't found the folder where to store the skydrive data.I think this is a problem in connection with no (1).
I wanted to know if is it possible to switch between modern ui (as it is by default) and desktop apps, all in the same left pane in Windows 8.1?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIn windows 8.1 start screen, if I go to the all apps view & sort by category, the first category is 'desktop'. What determines which apps are listed here? Only some of my desktop apps are listed. Can I edit the list? Likewise, if I sort by name, the first group of apps includes only a subset of all my apps - can I edit that list?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use skydrive on two different computers, but when I made them both with the same MS account they synced stuff to each other, which I do not want.
I made a local account on one computer, but if I want to access Skydrive, it changes that account, back to the main account.
Is there a way to access the same Skydrive account through the app without making them the same user account?
Or is there a way to unsync different computers?
I initially created the thread below but I have since discovered the problem relates to many apps and not just the People app.
People App Opens then Crashes to Desktop
I have a new Dell laptop running Windows 8.1 Core Edition. After only a week I found most of the apps would crash to the Desktop on opening. I thought I had solved the problem by creating a new user account and reinstalling the apps but that only worked for a week before the same problem reappeared.
This is what I have discovered to date:
Initially most apps crashed on openingReinstalling the apps made many of them work but there are still some issues e.g. selecting Maps within Bing weather causes the app to crashThe apps work fine in a new user account or in other local accounts I have not used much to dateNone of the steps recommended in Apps and Tiles Not Working or Responding: Fix in Windows 8 solves the problemI've spent an hour with Microsoft Support who have found no obvious problem and have escalated the problem to the next tier
The problem appears to be due to access rights and priveliges in user accounts since the apps work in other accounts or if I create a new account.
Where the apps are located for each user account and whether there is way of checking that they are set up to have the correct access rights and privileges.
I open up my Live tiles screen on my 2nd monitor. When I open an app, say facebook. All is fine. When I drag from top of screen to bottom with my mouse to close the app, it goes to desktop. Is there a way for me to go back to the Live tiles screen?
Also, is it possible to have the live tiles screen visible all times on my 2nd monitor. I use Stardocks Start8.
All of a sudden, whenever I open an app on Windows 8 Start menu (click on a tile), the website and/or program opens the desktop. I lost the ability to view open apps by clicking on the top of the page. The web search toolbar on the bottom of the page has also disappeared. Did I change something I wasn't aware of?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I start a program (Photoshop, Firefox, for example) from the Start Screen the Desktop appears and the program loads on top of the Desktop, and when the program closes I am left with the Desktop not the Start Screen. Is this normal Windows 8 behaviour? (I have only just acquired Windows 8 and it is taking some time getting used to it!!) Is there a setting which will allow me to start a program from the Start Screen and return to the Start Screen when I close the program, ie allow me to bypass the Desktop (unless I choose deliberately to go to it)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to Windows 8.1. In Windows 8 I had three apps appearing on my desktop (Currency Rates, Weather and another one). After upgrading, these apps have disappeared. I like to be able to boot up to the desktop and immediately see what the weather forecast is. So far I haven't been able to work out how to get the apps permanently onto the desktop. Can it be done?

How can I get them back?
Although I have an Oo shortcut icon on the Desktop & a listing under 'Documents', I also have an Oo tile in the Start menu. Why when I select the tile does it open on the Desktop. If I delete the shortcut icon & the Document listing will this allow it to open as a full-screen site from the Start menu?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI accidentally deleted the rectangle "desktop" that's in the large group of squares and rectangles when one gets online with windows 8. I searched an haven't a clue how to set it back up. Now it's possible, of course, but uncomfortable to get to the desktop from anywhere.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my Windows 7 laptop to Windows 8 and none of the apps work and they all show offline. When I open the desktop I can use the internet with no problem. In the network and sharing options it says that I am not connected to a network when clearly I am so I'm guessing it is possibly a network/IPv6 issue?

View 7 Replies View RelatedFirst I thought it was slow. Then I got tired of waiting and figured out how to associate all my photos with the windows photo viewer from the desktop apps like I was used to with Windows 7
However, I would like to give it a fair chance to work. So, I am posting here.
When I click on the photo app, it shows some folders, sometimes it kicks me back to the desktop before I can click anytime. Other times, it may show a photo for a few seconds before kicking me back. Either way, this is not acceptable.
The app is not closing. It is still running because if I click the left corner, I see it and can access it again, if over for a second.
Is this experience common. I have had my windows 8 pc a week and I switched over to windows 8.1 about two days after I initially got it setup. I am a very experienced Windows 7 user. I am trying to be open minded about this new operating system.
I have been using Windows 8.1 desktop (Dell 8700) for a little more than 6 months. I am very happy with its performance. The computer is very fast. But here is one hitch. As all of you might know that the original SkkyDrive was converted into OneDrive during Microsoft auto-updating process. OneDrive is the one supposed to be used.
Right now, I see both SkyDrive and OneDrive folders in the computer (even in my Windows 7 computers). There is no SkyDrive in "Uninstall program". So I could not remove the SkyDrive folder. Just "delete" SkyDrive folder" does not work either. Because of this problem, I was not able to study how to use OneDrive.
What is interesting to me is that SkyDrive seems to be still active and OneDrive, dormant. For example, c:UsersusernameOneDrivePicturesCamera Roll is active. The Camera Roll folder in the SkyDrive shows all pictures taken today with iPhone. On the other hand, OneDriveCameral Roll folder has a few old pictures.
how to get rid of the SkyDrive and force OneDrive as an active Cloud storage?
SkyDrive was working decently for me until recently. These last 2 weeks it stopped syncing. It won't sync my files and folders.
But, when I save a word document directly from Word 2013 to SkyDrive it is synced.
Cannot figure out what is the problem, checked all settings locally (my notebook) as well as online. I have Windows 8.1 (x64) RTM with all the lastest updates installed.
how to integrate skydrive into my win explorer. I would like to simply be able to drag a file from say excel or word an drop it into a skydrive folder or somehow save it to skydrive from excel or words "save" or "save as" window. I also have this strange folder appearing in my win explorer and I think it where my skydrive is located.

Then I installed OneDrive 17.0.4029.217
But when I right click in the taskbar on the cloud icon, it says "OpenSky Drive in Explorer" and there were no Windows updates pertaining to OneDrive I had to manually install the above thinking it would change the name of the SkyDrive folder in the left pane to OneDrive but it didn't
Anyway to get Win 8 to go directly to the desktop or to the all apps after login in?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIt is a HP Pavilion. When I power up the machine it opens to "what I presume is the Desktop" OK. However there is only the clock, Wi-Fi and Batt/ACicon on the screen. There are no Apps showing, no Charm Bar and no keyboard shortcuts work at all. If I click any place on the screen it opens to a gmail sign in page and that is it.
I probably should also mention that I get nothing hovering my mouse in the lower right corner. Now the clincher is that this is his wife's machine and she can't remember the PW for this gmail account. So I can't even sign into it tosee if that even brings me anyplace beyond the gmail account.
One thing I did notice was that an automatic update did download itself while I was writing this. I shut down and let them load and restart hoping maybe all would be well on the restart. Not that lucky.
Did I mention he did not receive a disc with themachine nor was he in tuned to create a Rescue Disc. How to get him out of this jam.
I was wondering if it was possible to run the Metro/ Modern UI apps on the dektop screen in a window? It seems the new office does this and I really liked it. I find it extremely annoying using a fullscreen app on a 24" screen on my desktop PC.
The new Windows literally kills windows. I don't get why they would do this to desktop users.
