View 4 RepliesI accidentally set "Windows Presentation Foundation Host" to default open in Google Chrome, I don't know why I did. I was experimenting, I guess. I don't know how to fix it.
Windows Presentation Foundation Host is an XAML file. I don't know a whole lot about how computers and their files work, but I know a little like how to navigate with task manager, file explorer, control panel, etc.
I am using Windows 8 on my laptop. If I connect my laptop to a video projector and left it idle for about 4 minutes, the screen turns black. So I am trying to avoid this. Here is what I did so far.
First I found that for Windows 8, the option of presentation setting is not available in Control panel -> Windows Mobility Center (Fig. 1).
Next I looked for the screen saver and found that I have not activated it at all. Also the (Fig. 2)
Next I tried to Change the power setting by going to Control panel -> Change power setting -> Change when to turn off the display and set all of the as Never (Fig. 3)
I still got the black screen after doing these. Finally I noticed that after I left my laptop idle for about 4 minutes, it says "maintenance is in progress" in the "Action center". After searching through web, I found that an easy way to stop this maintenance during my presentation. I disconnected from the wireless internet temporary when giving a presentation. I tested this and after disconnecting from internet there will be no "maintenance is in progress".
However, the screen still turns black during presentation, even after disconnecting from the internet.
I tried downloading various apps from the store, but the message I get was I can't install this app.For example, I tried to install PDF Reader 8, and I get error code 0x80070032. Does the error code reveal what the problem is? I am running Windows 8, not Windows 8.1, on the Lenovo IdeaPad.

I Googled it and tried to reset Windows Store cache by wsreset.exe but it didn't work. It occurs to every app I try to install.
Is it possible to download free apps from Windows Store directly (without going through "Windows Store" icon/apps in Windows 8.1? I'm having a problem with Windows Store in my OS, whenever I try it, it just said no network connection, but I can surf no problem using FF/Skype etc. If I can go directly to Windows Store website and download the apps directly from there, it'll be awesome, but everytime I tried, it just goes back to my OS Windows Store.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can only run apps when NOT connected to the internet. Only pre installed apps becauce I can't download new ones. When connected to the internet I can use a browser, use email and go to the apps store. If I try to run any apps they try to open up and then I get the message "Can't log into Xbox" or something like that. I DON'T HAVE AN XBOX. Why do microsoft assume everyone owns all of their products. I have uninstalled everything mention of Xbox but this get the same problem.
I tried to download an app - three days later it was still trying. I just get a blank square on the home screen with some dots scrolling along the bottom of the box. I have tried various apps and nothing ever downloads.
It says my internet is too slow. I have no other choices

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a dell venue pro. I rented a movie on the pre-installed video app (xbox). I opted to download the movie so I can watch it remotely. I got a download error because of low disc space. The c drive is low on memory but I have a completely empty microsd card with more then enough room for the movie. How can I make the app download onto the msd card instead of the main drive? The app itself has no such option in the settings. I've tried to change the pathway but the app still seems to want to download the the c drive first.

I have an online course where the audio/video files are in itune store, but everytime I click on the link, it said itmss protocol is not registered in Windows, so the only solution seems to download/install iTunes for Windows. I'm trying to use VLC for all my audio/video files, so if I can avoid installing iTunes and still be able to download and watch the course video/audio, would be ideal.
Here are my questions:
- how can I visit itune store and check which free video/audio files are available to download. The ideal would be just click on the link, but everytime I tried that, the FF responded that does not know how to handle it.
- what's the format used by apple for audio/video files in itune store?
- supposed that I could download the video/audio files from itune store, is it possible to play with VLC?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo recently the sound on my machine will randomly stop working- no apps produce sound, Chrome doesn't, not even the system sounds. I posted about this on another forum which told me to check for hardware changes in the device manager, but that doesn't seem to be working, or at least not consistently.
From what I can tell, the sound won't cut out if it's playing. It will only stop when there's nothing playing at all. After that, it just comes back when it feels like it it seems. I've tried updating my sound drivers and everything, nothing is muted, so I'm at a loss.
I have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.
the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!
Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.
Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.
I want to make screenshot to make a tutorial of how to download and use certain programs. If the program is already downloaded could that be problematic? Would it be better to do it on a blank new user account?

I eventually get an error message. I am not a home posting so I don't have the exact error. It is either oxo or oco 000005. I have Norton 360 and it says the file is safe. The one file I have tried to download multiple times is the Garmin Lifetime Updater. This is an exe. file.

Does this mean that i'll be able to download not the win 8.1 preview ISO, but the win 8.1 FINAL ISO? Or i'll still need to run the Upgrade Assistant to download the files for me?
I have a valid win 8 pro key and i want to make a clean install. Still, i wonder is there a reason to wait till win 8.1 will be released to download and install it at once and not to install win 8 and then 8.1 (as it will reset settings and apps i guess).
So the question is - will it be possible to download win 8.1 ISO from microsoft directly as a file (as one can download win 8.1 preview right now) and not use Upgrade Assistant that will download multiple files for me that i'll be wrapping to make an ISO?

1 • Go here Upgrade Windows with only a product key - Microsoft Windows Support scroll down and click on both 'Install Windows 8' and 'Install Windows 8.1'
2 • Run the Windows 8 setup and enter your retail Windows 8 key, click next and when it begins downloading, STOP it! Exit setup.
3 • Now run the the Windows 8.1 setup. It will produce and error. Exit and then run Windows 8.1 setup again.
It should now be downloading the Windows 8.1 ISO. Afterwards you can save it as an ISO or create the USB media immediately.
4 • After its downloaded Select Install by creating media, and click/tap on Next.
5 • Select ISO file, and click/tap on Save.

Windows 8 goes to sleep when i use IDM to download and I am away. (Its a running app and windows must not go to sleep when its running windows 7 was not like this).
